Windows Update requires approval from the Admin while logged in as an administrator
I recently reinstalled Vista Ultimate after some adventures with a bad copy of Windows 7. I am the administrator. The only account that I currently have is the admin. account. Any update I try to install, Windows Update asks me to log on as an administrator or ask one to perform the task for me. I read articles and Q & A @http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/afa66485-9c42-469e-b393-5bd8ad5a82e5 until my eyes bled. For the love of God: why this cannot be resolved so much hassle?
* Title *.
I am administrator BUT Windows Update told Me I need to provide permission administrator logon as administrator or by asking an administrator to perform tasks for meI had the same problem with Windows updates asking permission of the administrator when I was logged in as an administrator. Sometimes the Windows updates works fine and sometimes it has its flaws, but there is usually a way around it if you want to install the update. And here's one to try: go to start > Windows Update. You can eliminate the problem promptly Admin here by clicking on change settings in the sidebar and check the box that allow all users to install updates on this computer. You can always change it back again after you install the updates that you want. I hope this helps.

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.
I am attaching a link to a forum below with similar problems. It is usually a Novell network via reg edit script to allow that to happen. Please let me know if this can help, or if you're still having problems.

I got the Conficker virus and now I can't get Windows Update to work
I got the Conficker Virus/worm infected my system, but have now got rid of him (I think).
I noticed yesterday that Windows Update has just stopped working, it has a red symbol X and said 'windows update cannot currently check updates because the service is not running'. Then, I figured that it could be a virus and tried to download AVG anti-virus, but the virus stopped me to access a website or a program to do with protection against viruses (including all Microsoft sites). Finally, I used a separate laptop and negative to download AVG and some other anti-virus/malware programs and down them mode without failure. I then ran Windows malware removal tool. That seems to have gotten rid of the virus (which has been identified as Conficker), I can now go to any Web site, so it seems that the virus is gone or disabled.
However I can not even access Windows Update. My guess is the virus disabled some component of it, but how now operate again? Is it possible to re-enable it manually? Or y at - it something that I can download to fix?

I created a new user account for my admin account. I tried to create a standard account and I tried to change to an administrator account. The only place that this account presents itself is managing it new user accounts in Control Panel. If I try to change user or sign out and then sign back, it never gives me the possibility to sign until the new user account that I created.
I read another post that said to try to restart in safe mode, what I tried without success.
I also don't get no error messages, so I was not trying to fix anything, given that I'm not sure it's broken and I don't want to do something worse. I only use this computer and Vista for a few days now, so I hope it's something simple I'm missing because I am not yet familiar with the operating system.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
