Losing access to file daily shares

I work with a number of clients who have noticed only this problem on Windows XP-based computers. There is a program that maps a UNC path to a drive letter (for users to access their own) and then proceeds to the UNC to access these files. (it basically runs the command "net use \\computername\sharenamev:" for the user and then trying to access some files on \\computername\sharename)

Recently, they were broadcast in a large number of problems with their XP machines using this program. The program works fine for a day, but the next day, it is impossible to connect to the same UNC path for file sharing. It returns an error of not being able to find the specified network path. I noticed a few things about it.

(1) the question seems isolated in specific shared folders. It always seems that affect this program uses, but the other files are still accessible. Sometimes the other files are affected, but it is mainly the folder that this program uses.

(2) if I change the UNC path to the IP address, the program works very well for another day, but the next day, the same symptoms occur. Switching back to the UNC works again and the process repeats in a cycle, apparently without end (UNC works-> next day UNC is not working but IP-> next day IP does not work but doesn't--> UNC UNC but IP-> etc.).

(3) when this happens, if the mapped drive is always connected, they can access files here yet, but the name UNC (or IP - depending on the day) does not allow access.

(4) sometimes a restart of the client computer set. Other times, a reboot of the server fixed. Other times, no options work and we must return to the rotation of the IP/UNC.

(5) it does not affect Windows XP-based computers, but does not all Windows XP machines.

It is curious, and we have a number of our customers face the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi ScottStairs,

Your Windows XP question is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the IT Pro TechNet public. Please post your question in the TechNet Windows XP Networking forum.

We recently bought two Macs and an airport Time Capsule as we were told that it would allow us to access the files from one computer to another. • Can I access a file on a server where the path is password protected?

I have a file stored on a computer in a remote location.  This file must be consulted in several test computers to update the results of the tests.  I need to access the file to collect the results.  Currently I have to connect to the remote computer via the file manager and say file manager to save the password so that LabVIEW will be able to access the test result file.  Is it possible that LabVIEW can do this?  I don't want the test computers to stay connected to the remote computer, as someone can possibly accidentally damage the file.

    Thank you.

This question has come up before. Have you tried a search? You can use the "net use" command through Exec System to set up the network share, and then you can disconnect. Do a search on 'net use', or simply type 'net help use' at the command prompt.

  • To access the files with the appropriate authorization

Hello everyone. I tried to fix something that I screwed up a long time ago. Here's how it started. I have this drive external DRIVE that I keep my photo archive to. I was going to somewhere that I don't remember now, so I wanted to keep away from curious eyes. So I right click on the main folder and 'share with... '. Nobody ". I applied it to all subfolders and files, etc. So of course when I was there, I couldn't access my files either. He says I don't have permission to access. It's understandable. Then, some time later, my computer crashed and I had to install win7 all over again. That's when I realized that I blocked my own photos in a way. I couldn't access the files without changing the status of property. I've changed the status to everyone instead of specific individuals. I could access the files. OK boring part is almost finished.

Now I can access the files. But under certain conditions. I have recently (4 hours ago) installed win7. I still get the same error always which is the following:
    [IMG] http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp357/DarkTemplar21/5.jpg [line]
This is how I see the files/folders
    [IMG] http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp357/DarkTemplar21/1.jpg [line]
I have apart from the main folder through Group residential read/write first, then I have to go for the subfolders, select all the files and share them again
    [IMG] http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp357/DarkTemplar21/2.jpg [line]
    then I result
    [IMG] http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp357/DarkTemplar21/3.jpg [line]
When I check the security options in detail, I see a number of unknown accounts as owners.
    [IMG] http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp357/DarkTemplar21/4.jpg [line]
I always delete but they keep their appearance or it seems that way.
So I solved my problem by going to these steps. But I want also gives access to my files on other computers. I don't want to change owner every time I want to take a look at my photos somewhere else than on my own computer. Is there a way to solve this problem once and for all? or do I have to do this in a routine. It's very tiring to go all folders and share and delete owners etc.
Thanks in advance for your help. I promise you that I won't go anywhere near file sharing again.

OK, I got it, I changed the owner again at all for the entire disk. now I can access all the files. It really scared me for a minute there. Thank you once again.

    Hello

    Follow these steps:

Step 1: Make this file and printer sharing is enabled, computers.

Follow the steps listed in the link below to check the parameters and the essential elements to share files over the network:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/file-sharing-essentials

Also check if network discovery is enabled, the computer. Steps to follow:

    i. click on Start, click on Control Panel.

II. Select network and sharing Center

III. Select change advanced sharing settings

(IV) in respect of network discovery, select Enable network discovery

Step 2: check the sharing permission on the shared folder.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/share-files-with-someone

Step 3: you can also try to disable your firewall program and security and then try to access to the shared folder. Make sure that you activate it if this step does not help.

    Note:
Antivirus/Firewall software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

It is about the security for files on a PC for example, the confidentiality of stored data.

We define the firewall Windows to ensure that the files and data on the host PC are not

The default settings are sufficient to prevent access to all files and folders unless you give permission otherwise.

The configuration utility includes an option to define exceptions, but if none are defined, then it's not. The basis for disable is file and share printers, when you configure this exception of file sharing is enabled. Obviously the key is to ensure that the user in question has not the power to change the setting, so must be configured as a Standard user.

  • Unable to access the files from Windows 7 computer to Windows 8

    Hello

I have Word 2007 on two computers, and each has Windows 7 or 8.  I'm trying to share with homegroup.  My goal is to keep my documents on Windows 7 system and access the files (read and edit) the system of Windows 8. I don't want multiple documents, I want just one version.

After you open the docx Word read-only, I did some research and discovered that if I go to the file on the computer with Win7, made a right click on the file, then select residential group read/write, I would then be able to access the computer of Win8 file and edit and save it.  I was able to do this.

    OT: Word 2007 ReadOnly

To make sure that I could continue to do so, I tried again (by selecting the docx on the Win7 system since the system of Win8).  I received one copy read the second time.  What should I do to edit and save the Win8 computer capabilities, without having to physically run to the Win7 to allow access?

    Thank you

  • The standard account users are able to access the files of in the administrator account.

Original title: help with the Standard of Windows 7 user account

I'm completely lost as to how I can possibly set it up on my computer. Here's the scenario, we don't have that one computer that all we share.

I use my computer for the working documents and other important files that I do not want others to have access to, my only siblings uses the computer to access the internet to check their emails, games, regular and other navigation.
I created an administrator account for me and a single standard user account to allow them their use, but not be able to make changes or install things without my consent. But the problem is that they are, log on with a standard user, they still manage to access the file on my "my documents" of the administrator account.
As I check, they were able to do by accessing the C:\ drive > users > My Name here > my documents.
I tried it myself using the standard account and I was able to make the changes/remove files store on my files of administrator account without even receive a warning or be asked an admin password.
Is it possible for me to avoid this? How can I prevent someone using a standard account to access files on my administrator account? Or better yet, can you please provide steps on how to do a standard user cannot account not able to access to the "Users" folder in the C:\ drive?
Is it also possible to have the only able to access their personal files user account?
    Any help is appreciated.

Here are the key to your problem:

    B. users (HomePC\Users) - check (Allow) "Read & Execute", "List folder and content," finally "to read"...
You must add your account name and give him full access, then remove the marks of graduation for "users".
Unwanted permissions have been applied probably because you activated the group home environment and shared your own folders. There is a network issue, not a safety issue. I know little about this feature of Windows 7 and recommend that you ask the networking experts for advice in this forum.
