Loss of memory hard drive

I have a computer Dell Dimension 3000 DIM relatively old, running on Windows XP that was equipped with 40 gig of memory, which is now under 6 gig. My programs take hardly 2 gig of memory and I transferred all my documents to a flash drive, which consume 1.5 gig, and my hard drive memory continues to decrease. What happened to all the memory and how do I get at least a portion of it back, let's say 10 gig? Thanks for any help you can offer. GRDavis

Memory and hard drive space are not related.

A few weeks ago, I noticed and did a cleaning disk, deleting all my points of restoration, but two nights ago I turned on my pc and it was about 62 g of free memory. I checked one more time before I turned it off and it was in the low 50s. The next morning, when I turned my computer on free memory space was only about 47g. BTW why they made it so difficult to get just to the battery in this model?

    Hello

The link below is the manual of your device

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c04438537

Supports up to 12 GB of memory system max (module DDR3L 1600 MHz), (Page 2)

  • Previous instance of the pilot still in memory - hard drive Ext

It is on a disk Toshiba external hard usb connected to a w XPS8700 8.1 which works fine on other computers. The error message -cannot load the driver the previous instance of the device still in memory driver. I uninstalled the drive ext devices and printers where it appears with an exclamation mark and error message, rebooted, removed and reconnected to the diff, usb ports, changed power outlets, registered disk management - does not appear there or to Mgr. Unit nothing works. Yet to test it on my another victory 8.1 computer recognizes it immediately and I have access to all files.  It scans the drive and found no errors. Files can be moved to the other hard drive. The ext drive works OK on the 8700 for more than a year.

edit -- found the reason - USB Mass Storage Device has the error -previous instance... still in memory. Any suggestions? Uninstalling and restarting does not help. Diagnostic tests were all very well.

The fixed! This was caused by Pépin of the history of the files. (I hate file history) I opened Device Mgr, selected hidden devices and found an old entry of WD ext hard drive and deleted. Historical files should be disabled before changing anything. because it gave me errors on the disc Toshiba not found or not connected. I had disabled the USB storage device and had to re - activate. This requires a reboot, and the Toshiba external drive is now active and functional.

I am leaving the history of files and make manual backups instead.

  • Is it possible to upgrade memory hard drive?

I'm just trying to see if I can move on to more memory on the hard drive of my computer or if I just need to go buy an external hard drive?

    Hi tnof77,

Hard disks have "cache" memory but thats all and it cannot be upgraded. While the cache is important, that the amount of space on the hard drive is the main point of Director. If you run out of space hard drive then, Yes, you need to either buy a hard drive more "internal" or, if you only need additional space for the files etc, an external hard drive. • T500 Turbo Memory hard drive Cache.

I had my T500 built with the Intel 2 GB Turbo Memory Cache on the hard drive. I think I read somewhere (help me decide of information on the web site of the order) that it would make the faster boot process. The only way I found to confirm that it is already installed is shown in disk management as disk 0, online, Simple layout, Type is Basic, no Volume Information and the Staus is Healty (Primary Partition). While I am waiting on my W7 upgrade appears I thought try and discover how to use this option. Any suggestions on where I can find documents of reference on how to use this feature or understand how it is being used with Vista Ultimate? TIA for any help.

    Bob Helms

I answered my own questions after doing further research. For those who don't want to not pass the time here is what I discovered. This option is basically a 'Dear' flash player which is used to "ReadyBoost". Supported Vista ReadyBoost is considered lame by all those who blog about it. Support of Windows 7 ReadyBoost is a little more robust IMHO you can do just as well with a key of 8 or 16 GB and spend much less than the cost of the in-house option of Lenovo.

  • Ran memory hard drive, added a hard drive and hopeing I can combine somehow.

I have added a second hard drive with XP on it. I have the second disk set to CSEL. I have a gateway pc. It appears in Device Manager. I was hopeing to combine them, a bit like you can do with vista. I put in wrong place

If the primary transmission is set to Cable Select, you have set the jumperr on the extra disc correctly.

If the primary transmission is set to master, you must assign additional drive SLAVE jumpers

Assuming that both show in BIOS, Device Manager and Windows Explorer, you cannot combine the two discs.

What you can do is freshly format additional drive and then move all files data yourr on him... Mike Hall MVP - Windows Desktop Experience http://msmvps.com/blogs/mikehall/

  • Color Laserjet 4550 DN: Memory / Hard drive in a printer, that we need to have

We have a printer Color Laserjet 4550 DN we need to dispose of it. We want to assure you that there is no hard drive, which must be erased or destroyed for security reasons, until we get rid of it.

Only the hdn model came with a hard drive.  You can tell if you a looking at the back where you have run the cable to the computer or the network.  On this board there called EIO housing.  One is used for the network card and if you have a hard drive, there will be another card inserted in the slot EIO others which I do not think that you will have.  If there is another card just loosen the two screws and remove it.

  • Loss of massive hard drive space

I am running windows 7 on a PC with a 1 to hard drive/8 GB RAM, and up to a day ago I had more than 750 GB of free space on the disk. This morning I found that there are now only 203 GB of disk space. I ran disk clean, defragment the drive and cleaned the dive but still can't fig on that suddenly picked up all this space. Any suggestions?

A useful tool for analyzing the use of space is Jam software treesize

  • Memory hard drive endangered.

I use Vista. I get the message about dangerously low memory on my C drive.
When I check all the contents in C, it is about 12 GB in total, including hidden files. The drive is small, only 19.5 GB but this still leaves 7.5 Go missing. There are no restore points saved and no backup shadow copies.
When I run a defrag analysis, he shows no space free, all just don't a lot, a lot of files fragmented. I get a message that my C drive is 30% fragmented.
Can not defragment...  Someone at - it ideas?

Get a larger drive. There is no real solution other than that. 19.5 GB is just too small to accommodate the operating system and installed software. In addition to the 8-12 GB used by the operating system, it is the space allocated to processes such as system restore and the pagefile. In addition, you need a certain amount of free space, roughly 15% or ~ 3 GB allowing expansion and %Temp% files.

A computer being used is not static, dynamic, and you need room to move. Think of it as trying to ride a motorcycle in your living room - you can adapt it in there, but you can't really use it. • Question about hard drive storage on Satellite Pro L40

I have a Satellite Pro L40. Memory hard drive seems to be divided into two (about 35 GB each) under Vista C and e of data.
Vista C is almost full. How can I use/access the E-data memory?

    Hi Bart

Please don't get me wrong, but your question is really strange. I mean after reading your post, I'm really interested in your PC knowledge and how long you use your laptop.

You want to know is basic stuff and must be learned first when you start using computers.
When you have the time to try to get some book on WXP or Vista and all know about operating systems and how to use them.

Open Windows Explorer, and you will have direct access to the second partition. You can move files from C to D, or save all data directly on the D partition.

Google a bit. You can find many Web pages on basic stuff to the use of operating system.

  • HP Pavilion Touchsmart 14 b109: hard drive problem

computer won't work on anything it goes directly to the version 1.6.0.0 - BIOS.  Memory HARD DRIVE CHECK, THEN IT check Smart ascreen Test: failure failure ID: 9UXEKT-6ASC7hxMFAWXF-60E330.-product ID EOX70ua #aba hard drive 1

It seems that the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can use a 750 GB hard drive, but not a 320 GB hard drive.
  • Start up and boot problem. Hard drive error. HP pavilion laptop Home Premium. Windows Vista preinstalled. No cd came with it.

Nothing new added to comp. Got the hard drive error message and followed the instructions to fix/repair. All translations tried (almost every test suggested/memory/hard drive, etc.) could find NO problem with the memory or hard drive.  Once I have pass the problem to boot/start the computer works fine!   Crazy!  Any sugg. would be appreciated.

    Hello

    ·        Since when are you facing this problem?

    ·        What are the fix and repair that you tried to solve this problem?

    ·        Outside this disk verification error, do you get any other error message?

    Method 1:

I suggest you to do a scan of the SFC. File system (CFS) Auditor verifies that all Windows 7 system files are where they should be as they are by default and not corrupted, changed or damaged.

    ·        Click Start, click principally made programs, accessories, right-click on command prompt and select run as administrator.

    ·        Click on continue or provide administrator credentials if prompted.

    ·        In the command prompt window, type the following text, and then press ENTER:

    ·        sfc/scannow

    ·        You should see the following message on the screen:

§ Begin the analysis of the system. This process will take time.

§ Beginning verification phase of system scan.

    ·        % Of verification complete.

    ·        Once the scan is complete, a test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved or not.

    a. click on start, then run.

    b. in open, type cmd, and then press ENTER.

    c. use one of the following procedures:

Procedure 1: To run Chkdsk in read-only, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.

Procedure 2: To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume: / f, and then press ENTER.

Procedure 1: To run Chkdsk in read-only, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.

Note: If one or more files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message is displayed:

    a. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. You want to schedule this volume to check the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

    b. Type O, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Procedure 2: To repair errors, locate bad sectors and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume: / r, and then press ENTER.

  • then I just remove my hard drive without crashing the system

I just back up files on the HARD drive. There is no system files or programs on it. Can I remove and replace it with a bigger memory HARD drive, without crash the system?

Yes, you can remove the HARD drive without crashing the system by closing the PC, unplug the power supply from the socket and then remove the HARD drive.

Please note that the physical HARD disk is different from scores.

Hard physical HARD drive or disk drive is the hardware component for storage. The capacity varies.

A HARD disk cannot be used directly when it is connected to a computer, that's why storage units with file tailored to the needs of the system to create, known as partitions.

A partition can be a complete HDD (for example, if you have a physical HARD disk and you have only one partition C:\) or may be more than one partition of a physical HARD disk (for example, if you have a HARD physical disk and two or more than two partitions, such as C:\ and D:\).

Therefore, you can check for the exact physical HDD and then remove it. To do this, you can go to the computer-> storage management. Check the link for more information:

    http://www.7tutorials.com/how-manage-your-disks-using-disk-management-utility

This will show you the number of physical drives present in your PC and the partitions present in each HARD drive. So, once you confirm the HDD backup and partition (make sure that there no Windows installation, as says iFuton), you can shut down the PC, unplug the power supply and then remove the HARD drive.

[Please note that you have nothing to do in the management of the computer, except to check the partitions and hard drives (denoted as disk 0 disk 1 and so on for disks hard physical as well as the corresponding scores appear accordingly)]
