LR5 catalog import problems. (2)

Problem no. 1. When you import into LR5, 'copy as DNG' in a specific catalog file, LR doesn't place no where I've specified, but creates a new folder outside of the catalog folder specified, with the same name of the import file that I've specified.

Problem # 2.  After making minor changes in LR5 and 'Photo' _ "edit in" _ "PS CS6", I "save under" a PSD in the original record of LR, so that are side by side in the DNG, PSD ('grading' has the value 'capture time' or 'file name').  It has always worked without problem in the past but now (for the last 3 weeks) when I save PS to LR, a new folder is created with the PSD file in it, and it is not placed in the original source folder which I have appointed.

In the FINDER, all files are displayed in perfect order, side by side, on the correct files, but in the form catalog LR, split into several files.

In both cases, to import, a new folder is generated and my file is not where I nominated to go.  Any thoughts? I even uninstalled LR5 and returned to version 4 and still had the problem.  I have not changed the settings recently. With the help of a MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.2.

/ Volumes / my LightRoom book/images/my pictures

Jim... I notice in the FINDER, PICTURES is all uppercase, and the path in LR is u/l.  Well, I changed the FINDER you / l case 'Photos' and tested a demo of PS edit in LR and it went in the right position, next to the DNG format PSD in the correct file! Yes!

Now, I'm just trying an import from card reader to see if it imports correctly.  I'll let you know.  I think you found the problem for me! I will introduce soon.

UPDATE: import of card reader worked flawlessly after changing the 'IMAGES' to 'Images' in my FINDER window.

Thank you Jim, a lot for helping me!

When you first launch LR6, it should automatically detect your catalog LR5 and asks if you want to open an improved copy of it.

All of your changes, keywords, etc. will be deferred.

If it doesn't, use file > open in LR6, orders and access the LR5 catalog.

I just upgraded from the LR5 LR6 on my Macbook Air to OS 10.9.5. LR5 photos 38K, especially on an SSD connected with 2 years on an internal hard drive, gave a 48 GB LR5 catalog. Starting LR6, I decided to import all the photos of 38K stored on my SSD to form the LR6 catalog, but it is now 108 GB. Is he aware would be so much bigger than LR5 LR6 catalog? Should I redo, selecting the LR5 catalog to import to the LR6?

I don't pretend to re-do an import, I do not import or re - import at all.

You can delete the catalog Lightroom 6 and his insights that you created. You want to have the Lightroom 6 to upgrade the 5 Lightroom catalog file. Use the file-> open catalog and point to the 5 Lightroom catalog file. Once it is successful, you can also delete or archive the 5 Lightroom Catalog and delete its previews. As a piece of advice, never re - import photos. NEVER, as in... do not, do not, don't go anywhere near it.

Regarding the size of the preview, you can control this in Lightroom under the catalog tab file management settings.

  • LR4 catalog import in LR5 freeze to "prepare the new searchable data point."

I just downloaded and installed LR5. I've been using LR4/3/2 and still have catalogs imported successfully in the past. This time that lr5 seems to do most of the work while almost the same file size as the original catalog LR4 is created, but the message "upgrading current catalogue" just freezes.

    Should I reinstall LR5?

Make sure that it is frozen and not only really take a lot of time?  Upgrading the catalog checks all the original files for the additional data, which explains why it takes a lot of time, especially if the files are on a slower storage (which is SIN).  If you don't care of additional data, you could disconnect the readers (or rename the parent folder) before upgrading the catalog and it will skip this step.

Import problems in Lightroom CC / Windows 10

I have problems to import a batch of photos of a recent session. I am importing images, every time even on the same day, since a camera SD card on my hard drive using the option "copy as DNG.  My original files are Nikon raw (.) The NEF format) with sidecar JPG.  Among the 292 cases tried in importing, only 7 are converted. DNG format and do it in my catalog.  The remaining files have all been copied to my hard drive but are not converted to. DNG and do not appear in my catalog.  When I try to import and convert the remaining files that were copied on my drive hard but not converted to DNG or added to my catalog files is displayed with a check box but eventually fail to get changed or added to the catalog.

I also tried to copy originals directly into a folder on my hard drive and making the Lightroom Import from there and get a similar result.

I am under Lightroom CC on a Windows 10 PC.  Any idea what could be causing the problem?

First of all why you are converting to DNG? LR CC read Nikon NEF files fine.

Have you tried to copy the pictures to a folder on your disk and import only the naves with no conversion when importing?

Start a new catalogue and test-only import NEF files with no conversion to DNG.

I bought a new computer, installed LR5 and import photos from a remote hard drive. Photos is finer, but all my Collections disappeared.  Is there a way to retrieve my Collections?

The Collections are stored in the LR catalog. If you had previously copied to your catalog on the other computer to the new all your collections would have been there.

Now that you have the images on the new computer, 'IF', they were placed in the same folder structure (IE even the folder names and locations) then copy through the original catalogue "should" include your collections. If they are in the names of different folder or on a different drive letter or name of the player, then you might be able to use the feature to locate Images to find them.

  • Why the LR5 catalog is better than PES 12 organizing?

    Jim

I started using a trial version of the LR5.

I've been a regular user of the different versions of the EP over the years.

In general, I was pleased by the Organizer, & have various tags nested in each other.

I've never had a problem with it being unstable, and can usually find what I'm looking for.

(provided that I have correctly tagged it in the first place :-))

My first impression of the LR5 catalog is that it is not as intuitive.

I searched online for how to install the catalog & most of the discussion relates to catalogues how to have. -J' have already made that decision - just one:

So?  What are the features I am missing in the LR5 catalog that make it better than the elements Organizer?

    What do you think?

I am also a happy user of the Organizer, but I also use LR 4.4.

What I find interesting in LR:

-huge amount of customization possible and options (if you need it...)

-Ability to handle JPEG files as well as the raws (the Organizer doesn't let you open JPEGs in acr,)

-Smart ways to manage variants without copying files (virtual copies)

    -The most advanced metadata management

    -possibility to merge catalogs

-Much more supported by Adobe and user forums

-Advanced options in the output in the latest versions

What can be the subject of a debate, it's the difficulty of the learning curve, as well as the "robustness" of the software. The organizer has riddled many bugs (there were already several years before LR). The problem is that after having much more options makes more complex LR. For example, the database has three times the number of tables. It follows that LR forums are full of complaints about bugs or missing features... just because it's too rich and trying to satisfy the needs of each.

Several cases of problems with the Organizer are related to the function of backup that backs up the images and catalogs. Catalogues only backup LR. Backup of images is your responsibility. If you have problems, it isn't for lack of LR, it's yours.

I can't find a post I made to show the possible benefits of the Organizer, but it was just for fun.

  • The catalog import

I'm trying to synchronize annotations on images between two catalogs.  When I try to import from a catalog, Lightroom seems to stop.

My main catalog has about 96 000 images.  I exported 870 pictures to another catalog, and my assistant update ratings on those.  When I grew up in LR and tried to import updates from the small catalog in the big catalog, it took over an hour for LR finish "modified photos check duplicate '.  Then, when I told him to go and import metadata updates, it ran for hours without any apparent progress.

I looked around and seen only in some versions of LR, there is a problem of importing catalogs in the 64-bit version.  I used the 3.4RC 64-bit in Windows 7 with 6 GB of memory.  I tried the 32-bit version of 3.4RC and had the same results.  I tried the 32-bit and 64-bit of LR 3.3 and saw the same behavior.

Is this normal performance of the catalog import?  A bug in LR?  Or I do something wrong?

My ultimate goal is to allow my assistant to rate on his computer images, and then re-import the votes in my main catalog.  I'd be also interested in any suggestions on a better way to handle this.

    Thank you!

    David

You n ' want to be copy/move the file unnecessarily. Fortunately, it is possible for the two parties to share the same files on a network. So, it would be the way to go.

  • MacBook iMac w/o catalog import/export?

I have a macbook and iMac. How can I continue to work on my notebook Desktop pictures? W/o import and export catalog several times? Some, like a Mobile with Lightroom?

Lightroom is designed as a single-user system. Sync files between multiple computers requires that you jump many hoops.

My recommendation and the simplest solution is to put your catalogue and pictures on an external drive and move the drive from one computer to another as needed.

Copy of the catalog from computer to computer on your local network would be the next option.

"Export as catalog" and "catalog import" would be the third option.

  • The catalog import error

When I run the catalog import feature, I get an error message something like 'an unexpected error, can't open catalog. This has happened at the start when he made the comparison, the preview before receiving the option Preview/import of construction screen.

    Background;

    (1) I had just finished several functions successful import of the same catalog to the same catalog catalog

    (2) I closed and re-run LR (I use LR3)

    (3) I have tried the same Import of Catalog, pointing to the back-up with the same results

    Any ideas?

Try it with the Release Candidate of Lightroom 3.2, available at http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Lightroom_3.2.

  • Catalog: batchGetFormattedMetadata problem?

I'm new to Lightroom 3.0 SDK, but found catalog: findPhotos and photo: getFormattedMetadata working properly.

But, when I tried "catalogue: batchGetFormattedMetadata ' it returns an empty array.  Anyone can report I can hurt is this small snippet of code?

The resultTable returned has length 0, although there are photos in the catalog: "catalog:getAllPhotos().

    Import "LrTasks".startAsyncTask (function()
    local LrLogger = import "LrLogger".
local myLogger = LrLogger ("libraryLogger") - the name of the log file
    myLogger:enable ("logfile")

    local catalog = import "LrApplication".activeCatalog () ".

local resultTable = catalogue: batchGetFormattedMetadata (catalog:getAllPhotos (), Nile)
    myLogger:trace (#resultTable)

    end)

  • Catalog import of LR5 LR6

    Hello, I have this problem:

I have some work in a laptop with LR6 and now I have to import the photos (with modifications) in my desktop pc with LR5 but I can't because the catalog is made by a new version of Lightroom.

So, how do I import labour did in in LR5 LR6 without once again for each photo (about 800)?

    Thank you very much!

You can save the settings of most, but not catalog-specific settings in the section of a file or an xmp file.

Choose the ones you want to save and cmd/ctrl-s to save the files.

Then, you will need to import them into you Lr5 disk catalog shape.

  • LR5 import problem: Photos do not show in the import window

When you try to import CR2/JPEG files in LR5, import window shows empty records even though I can see the files in windows Explorer.  I also importing them from different places (from the camera, memory card, hard drive) and is always in white.  The kicker is I can open / import them by canon DPP and LR 4.4.

Here are the details of my system:

    • Tested on Windows 7 64 bit
    • Administrative account running without any permission problem
    • I have uninstalled/installed LR5 several times that does not solve the problem
    • I tried to import a upgrade to my existing LR4.4 catalog and also with a new catalog.

I created a video that captures my normal workflow.  As you can see, LR5 can not see one (CR2 and JPG) pictures of the card memory or hard drive but LR4.4 can see both of them without any problem.  Any help would be great.

I do not read that you have atttempted reset your preferences file. That would be my next step in troubleshooting. (or-trashing-)-the-lightroom-preferences-fichier http://www.lightroomforums.NET/showthread.php?14226-resetting-
