M81KR and 2.2.8

Hello

I noticed in the bundle of series b of 2.2.8a MK81 VIC firmware version is 2.2.3b (UCS m81kr - vic.2.2.3 b .bin), I guess it's okay.

The blade that I'm upgrading is a B200 M2.

Thank you

Yes, that's correct.

You can use this 'new' matrix hardware and software tool to check the same

https://ucshcltool.cloudapps.Cisco.com/public/#

PS: something to keep in mind is M81KR is supported up to ESXi U3, ESXi 5.5 5.1 and above the tracks to support (you can check the same in the above link by selecting the appropriate versions)

The calculation as Abi said is based on the number of uplinks recognized.

The calculation is [15 * (number of links recognized IOM)]-2.

    1 uplink [15 * 1] = - 2 = 13 vNIC/vHBAs

    Uplink 2 = 15 * 2] - 2 = 28 vNIC/vHBAs

    4 uplink = [15 * 4] - 2 = 56 vNIC/vHBAs

  • NIC teaming on ESX 5.1 and NGC failover

    Hi all

A quick question. I know I read it before, but I can't find the reference again once. What is the recommended setting between allow vNic activate failover on cisco UCS and strategy setting on ESX 5.1 of the network?

I know that I had read somewhere when the grouping of network cards is configured on ESX failover authorized UCS, ESX goes haywire if a path is lost the UCS.

Our installation program running on UCS 2.04 Manager has with a mixture of blades M2 and M3 with M81kr and 1240/1280 cards respectively.

Never use a fabric with a hypervisor vswitch failover. Let the failover of the vSwitch handle network failure mechanism.

For ESX once you have two NICs attached to the vSwitch or a DVS it will automatically load balance and failover. You don't want you combine this with the UCS fabric failover.

  • Network adapter for the B200 M2 upgrade of M81KR c1280 Server

    Hi team:

I plan to make a replacement of the M81KR network card to the C1280 B200 M2 blade servers.

Could you please help me on everything that I have to consider for this task?

    UCS manager version 2.2.1

    VMWare 5.5.U1. vSphere

If you have links or guide step procedure, it will help a lot.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation

    Javier

    Hi Javier

2.1.3 was the last version supporting M81KR.

The enic/fnic M81KR and VIC-1280 drivers are the same

    VIC-1280

    1.5.0.49 = card driver (FNIC), 2.1.2.38 (ENIC)
    Adapter Firmware = 2.1 (3)

    M81KR

    1.5.0.49 = card driver (FNIC), 2.1.2.38 (ENIC)
    Adapter Firmware = 2.1 (3)

Therefore, I see no problem; you change the adapter I/O and associate the SP again.

    Walter.

  • Switch QLogic 5200

I have problems with my 5200 QLogic SAN tip. TAC will not support this option, but says that it can work.

I B200 M2 blade and VIC M81KR and FI 6120 in end-host mode... Everyone works with something like that?

You are on the right track, you will not see an option to boot from san, but sites that I just installed with these switches that I went through this same scenario for hours until they got it right.  I won't address the startup process because you see that the WWN has hit the fabric so that should be good.  Then, after adding the WWN name in a zone or a storage group, it is alllowed to joing the fabric.  At this time you must ensure there is a logic unit number in the same group so he can see it, and he needs to be masked when he sees it and sees it as LUN 0.  ESXi wants to LUN 0 and it is really picky on local drives are visible, you must eject for more security.  But when the LUN is visible, it will be visible on this screen here in respect of the distance, but just like a hard drive.  I bet that you do not use the Cisco's VMware image, I can't see what version you use, but download the Cisco OEM of VMware image.  After that I started to use with the vic card, my boot of san issues went away.   When your logic unit number is visible in her select a disk window just choose to install as a local disk.

So if SAN boot with ESXi and VIC, use cisco oem image of esxi, eject the local hard disks, do NOT use the diskless boot strategy, use 'something' and eject at least up to the, it is running, there is a fix for esxi so local drives may exist, but if you use it to Cisco UC, it is not supported.  Finally, it is the logical unit number which must be visible... that's all.  my money is on image .iso in vmware due to drivers if your Bay SAN is correct...

  • Botting SAN

    Hello!

I have some doubts about an implememtation.

The environment consists of a UCS 5100 chassis, Server Blade 4 B200M2 with M81KR and two fabric 6120XP cards. The fabric switch are connected to a switch Brocade fiber 200 c and 5000. Storage is 3160 of NetApp FAS.

Want to define the profile of a boot server B200M2, which in fact San, we see ports fiber mode shows the 'F '. These ports are connected to the fabric 6120XP. The mode of operation in the fabric is 'ENd Host mode' and fiber ports are listed as "proxy_N." my question is, it is normal in the switches, Brocade, Fibre ports with connection fabric display mode "E"?

The second question, it must first define a target boot in the profile of the blade of the UCS, or if you first map the LUN 0 to the vHBA (WWPN) in the storage device?

    Thanks in advance, greetings!

Found as a Windows boot LUN ID of 1. Think any number would work? But 1 is a standard I know that most people use.

You must have a startup profile aimed at the WWPN of one of more FC ports on your storage device. Example below. In some situations, I do port based zoning and mask just the LUNS to the storage device and others add WWPN zoning (Brocade) as well as base LUN masking.

  • Palo Alto / M81KR mezzanine and n1kv

    Hi all

Whenever I try to install n1kv on a couple of blades B200 M2 with mezzanine M81KR, both boot from SAN, I get this error:

"the vDS operation failed on the host hostnamexxxx, error in the configuration of the host. Got (vim.fault.PlatformConfigFault) exception.

There is another B200 M2 blade in our configuration with card M72KR-Q (starting from local disks) and I can't install n1kv on no problem. I can also successfully install n1kv on C250 M2 in the same cluster and on a few other servers in a rack of an "other" provider.

Here are the versions of software installed on all servers, with the exception of B200 M2 with card M72KR-Q:

    ESXi410-Update01 2011-02-14 T 11: 00:04 VMware ESXi 4.1 complete update 1
    VEM410-201101108-BG-2011-04-12 T 14: 16:23 Cisco Nexus 1000V 4.2 (1) SV1 (4)

B200 M2 with card M72KR-Q running ESX, ESXi is not:

    ESX410-Update01 2011-02-14 T 09: 44:23 VMware ESX 4.1 full update 1
    VEM410-201101407-BG-2011-02-21 T 15: 27:56 Cisco Nexus 1000V 4.2 (1) SV1 (4)

I already looked into this thread, but these tips did not help either:

    https://www.myciscocommunity.com/message/66949

Other tips? M81KR would really be the culprit? (hard to believe, as it is the flagship product)

    Kind regards
    Radek

    Radek,

Ensure that the Service profile for the host you are trying to add to the 1000 v is not having all configured dynamic vNIC .  If so, this will cause also the host could not be added to the DVS with the M81KR.  Your dynamic vNIC policy must be set on "no vNIC dynamic connection policy.

Try what Manish suggested then by installing the appropriate software of VEM manually and then try to add the host.

    Kind regards

  • Half the width of the blade of bandwidth and IOM

    Hi, gurus from Cisco:

I read that Cisco series B width blade has a total bandwidth of 20 GB, can I looking for answers by authorities of this forum?

    Example:

2 FInterconnect IOM/2 with 8 blades half-width in UCS 5108 Chassis-2 server links by IOM-left and the other 2 links on the right server IOM

    Q1.

With the above configuration, what fabric or IOM is used, A or B?

    Static pinning

Server Blade/link 1 Slot 1,3,5,7---qui IOM will be used for these blades?

Server Blade/link 2 Slot 2,4,6,8---qui IOM will be used for these blades?

    Q2.

How to calculate the bandwidth of 20G in the Cisco documentation?

    Q3.

If blade 1 o/s performs an i/o write request, said deterministically by the IOM (left of the chassis), if there is another reading of e/s issued by blade 1 once again, the I/O path passes by the IOM B(Right of Chassis) or by IOM to happen again? Here, no matter what algorithm to determine this?

    Q4.

How to design a solution that will be to balance the load between the IOM 2? Or we can leave to Cisco UCSM decide automatically?

I undertsand that I can verify failover allow the use of UCSManager to manually select fabric or fabric B as the main way and the other as secondary in A - B (A is the Pri) or B - A B as the Pri.

Please help me help the UCS Cisco more than the foregoing is questions to the fire of some of us.

Getting better understanding now. Excellent help from you.

Assuming I create 1 service profile with the following:

Adapter 1 as seen within UCSM

vHBA-A- Fabric A - Is this 4GB as of now or can we treat it as 10G Port too likes vNIC?

Depends on the Mezz card.  M71/M81 have 4GB FC chipsets.  M72KR uses an 8GB FC chip.

    vHBA-B- Fabric B - Same as above

vNIC-A-Fabric A-This is 10G port, for sure, right.

    Yes

    vNIC-B-Fabric B-Same as above

For VMware vDS setup, say for vMotion/Service Console to have Active and Failover/Redundant vmnic, should I team the 2 vNIC-A and vNIC-B or

I should CREATE another Adapter and team the 2 ports or 1 port here with Adapter 1?

Depending on which adapter you're using, you can create max to 2 NICs (M71KR/M72KR) or up to 56 NICs (M81KR).  If you can only create a max of 2 NICs you'll need to use both NICs as uplinks to your vDS - both will be active. With Palo (M81KR)

It is creating a lot of confusion for non-Cisco Blade folks even from VMware and me too here as "physically" it is still only 1 M81KR with Dual-Ports for vHBA and vNIC alike???

The value add for the M81 (Palo) is you're able to create multiple virtual NICs/HBAs which can all be treated individually (VLANs, QoS, Security, Stat Counters etc).  You are correct that you're still limited to two phsyical underlying NICs on each blade - where your design questions come into play is how you want to manage the behavior & performance of each NIC.

Can you please throw some light into it as I think it is all in your head?

You have done a great job in enlightening me and the rest.

    Sanjeev,

A vfc interface will remain in a State of detention until he is intialised by HBA ROM option or the OS drivers.  If you try to boot from SAN, make sure that you load the package Option ROM host Firmware for your service profile.  This applies to the Emulex & Qlogic based adapters.  Palo M81KR VIC option ROM will load automatically like it's a SAN target configured in the policy of starting.

    -What adapter are you using?

-If trying to boot from SAN, your startup strategy is configured with your SAN targets?

-If the initialization of local disk, HBA was responsible in the host operating system driver?

Answer/confirmation above and we will examine further.

    Kind regards

According to my knowledge, there are two cards of M81KR in M1 B440 who both have 2x10G connection to the chassis in the background. I have 2 quick questions on cards M81KR B440 M1 blade.

1 are - these two cards work as active / standby?  Or a 10G connection is active and the other 10G connecyion's watch on each card M81KR?
    2. in addition, please could you tell balancing traffic on the strategy of 6140XP blade and failover of the UCS for these two cards?

    Thank you very much!

Double interfaces 10 gig on each of the M81KR, s works as a network ethernet card performance, supporting the unloading State and active mode / standby in native mode.  No driver needed for operations liaison active / standby.  All traffic is routed path ensures the active pinned bond of loss od, it is proposed to come back when the connection is restored.

When you get the new iPod, you can use iTunes on your computer to select and synchronize the music you want on it, in the same way that you synchronize your current iPod - your iTunes will recognize them as different devices and will remember your choice of synchronization for each, it will not (unless, for example, you restore the backup of your current on her iPod) put the same content on both.

  • Why my notes sync between my Mac and iPhone?

I have my MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks and my iPhone is running iOS 10.0.1 and used to synchronize my notes! Is it because of the huge gap in operating systems? I SHOULD update my Mac to Mac OS 10.10 + for this problem? Thank you!

In order to synchronize Notes between your Mac and iPhone, you must configure iCloud > http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/

But this requires macOS Sierra 10.12, the latest available version and the last iOS available for your iPhone.
