Recently had a file corruption on one of my devices logitech with profiles. Tried for weeks the problem without a re - install, but nothing has worked. Decided to format for sorting. After the format, I installed the drivers and then did the windows updates which was when the PC froze during the Setup period before closing. It was left overnight to see if maybe it was just take longer than normal on 1 update, but nothing has changed.

Had to restart and go into safe mode do a system restore to get windows to work. Tried a fix it tool updates microsoft and tried reset. There is same problem.

Re-formatted PC, installed only eset smart security and fact updates windows. Once again the PC froze during configuration. This time, I decided to make a secure, used formattingDBAN PRNG stream with 3 assists. Installed windows and once again exactly the same problem.

I am at a loss for what else I could possibly do to remedy this problem.

After a-installing Eset Smart Security, the updates installed correctly... must be a problem with one of them.

The updates are: KB2559049, KB2536276, KB2556532, KB2563894, KB2567680, KB905866, KB2563227, KB2570791, KB915597.

I had an infection maleware a couple of months (the one who pretended to be the windows Security Center and tries to make you buy software). I removed it with Malewarebites. I did at least a success many updates as a result - and then, these problems started when I treid to do this series of updates. I read in other issues of the forum that the maleware could be the cause of my problems to update and that maybe I need to format and reinstall windows. Is this correct?

Thank you very much for your help. I tried to use the patch program in suggestion (1). This did not help. In the end, I have solved the problem by starting the computer in safe mode. I have no idea why it worked! Thanks again.

    Hello

I have a brand new Packard Bell PC, AMD Athon II X 4 605th CPU, HDD 500 GB, 3 GB of DDR3 memory, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Security is ESET Smart Security 4.

I can load the updates, but when it restarts it stalls at 15% during the configuration of the changes. I left that night to run and it still crashes. Only remedy seems to be off and restart in safe mode and then restart again so we're back to zero.

Only change I made to the system's security review to operate the SONOS software.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

    Hello

I don't know any list of the differences between starting and Normal. I think you can try to disable Microsoft Services in MSConfig, but it's just a guess.

There is a box to check in MSConfig to create a log, but I know nothing about it, or where it would be stored.

  • Update Windows 7 freezes

Windows 7 Home Edition freezes 10 of 17. Updates will not end and the system is frozen and won't go further. Do a hard reboot, the system always comes back to the same point (10 of 17 updates) and we can't do everything. Help.

    Yes I did!

    So, here's what I've done :)

Removed the battery, because you can't actually do a restart hard without changing the settings of Toshiba. I thought that by pressing the power button for a few seconds or closing the lid from closing the computer down, but just put it on the mode 'sleep' as a default; would of realized that. : ashamed: P after removing the battery I just handed him and activated the power, he said that I had turned off the computer in the wrong way - I chose to start normally and - I was relieved to see the 11 first updates installed successfully and the opening of Windows as it should. And now I have installed the rest updates manually without any problem at all. As I read the descriptions the updates, I noticed 1 saying that he must correct the "shutting down issue' I had today. :) Let's hope Windows 7 doesn't let me down more now that my computer is up to date. I expect a lot from him, and in fact it was only a minor setback. Nobody is born perfect.

And thank you Santosh Y for your willingness to help. :)

Original title: xp freeze during an update... what to do

I turned on my computer for the first time in 10 days. When stop he went in update mode (21 updates) and was 19, since yesterday evening around 20:00 is this normal and if not what is my next step since he says do not close during an update?

    Hi MarcyDowning,

If the update is blocked for hours, then you can try to restart the computer and check if it starts in normal mode.

If not, then try to start in safe mode and try to perform a system restore:

    Step 1:

You can check the article to start in safe mode:

A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode

    Step 2:

If you are able to boot into safe mode, and then try to perform a system restore and check if you are able to boot into normal mode:

How to restore Windows XP to a previous state

Note: When safe mode system restore, system restore points are deleted.

Once you are able to boot into normal mode, you can try to install the updates in batches containing updates 4 or 5 at a time and check if it helps.

Looks more like a hardware or a hardware driver issue.

I do not remember what, if any, of what you can do in mode safe - but give it a shot.  Even some parts, that you did before.

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find.  Reboot when necessary.  (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
