Mavericks Guest OS resolution resets restart

I run a virtualized via VMWare Fusion Laboratory of automation.  This workshop helps QA test Mac software.  I have dozens of virtual machines running on a variety of hardware Mac using VMWare Fusion 6.0.2.  The problem I see is that virtual machines the Mavericks have their screen resolution reset to 1024 x 768 at each reboot and this is the only resolution available in the display of the system preferences panel.

Resembles the way I implemented virtual machines to:

1. using the application VMWare Fusion to create a new virtual machine and install the operating system.

2. install VMWare Tools on the guest.  Restart the virtual computer.

3. configure the operating system prompted with my settings.  This always includes something above 1400 x 1050 affecting the resolution of the screen.  I have to do this by stretching the window of the application VMWare Fusion or by setting the resolution via system preferences.

4 stop the machine virtual and made a copy of it.  This copy is my default state.

In actual use after that virtual machines is run headless using vmrun with nogui argument.  For all versions of OS X VMs, the resolution remains the same the virtual machine is restarted.  For VMS Mavericks the resolution passes to 1024 x 768.

For all other operating systems multiple resolutions appear in the display of the system preferences panel.  For the Mavericks, only that a resolution appears in the options of the chipped.

I tried the steps in 1003 KB:

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & externalId = 1003 & sliceId = 1 & docTypeID = DT_KB...

but that did not fix the problem.

I tried to turn on/off the 3d acceleration and the problem exists in both cases.  Changing the resolution by resizing the window while using VMWare Fusion app works very well, but this is not possible when running headless.

Telephone tech support suggested I report this issue to the community and see if he has all the answers here.  Thanks in advance.

  • Mavericks GUEST on VMWARE fusion 6 Mavericks operating system host

I want to install the Mavericks as a guest under VMWare fusion test OS / X Server and guest will be a customer.

Now, my problem is that even if the installation goes very well - when it comes to anything keypad entry works.  I can type, but no characters appear.  Outside of the machine virtual all works well.  The mouse works fine in the virtual machine.  I can even 'free' the mouse using control - so I know the keyboard does something, but I can't type in the virtual machine.  What can I do or check this?

I don't want to cancel the installation from the beginning and I need the keyboard to the original user of the installation.

    Thank you

I deleted and did the installation again and I used the keyboard for all navigation across (could whereI) and things seem to work fine now.  Quite strange.

  • Excessive I/o, Ubuntu Maverick, guest host of Windows 7, both are 32-bit

    Hi all.

I've invited Windows 7 SP1 (with the latest updates) installed on a virtual machine hosted on Ubuntu Maverick. The hosts and guests are 32-bit operating systems. When the customer is running the system carries out a large number of e/s (the LED of the disc is very bright) same for answers and small farms slowly. Doing something heavier, such as from Visual Studio or MS Expression Blend inside the guest takes about 5 minutes. Opening a XAML file or build my solution also takes enormous amount of time.

I cloned the virtual HD and he ran under VirtualBox, and it does not display these problems, then I think that the problem is somewhere in the configuration of the VMWare VM. I would like to take advantage of ability of VMWare to accelerate 3D graphics, so I have to stay with VMWare. Everyone experienced these problems? All solutions?

    Some info from the host:

    Core i5 520M

4 GB of RAM (I have a PAE kernel, then he can access all this)

    Ubuntu Maverick (10.10)

Hard drive 500 GB, 4500 RPM. A 277 GB free.

    2 virtual processors

    2 GB of RAM

100 GB virtual hard drive (not not previously assigned)

An another 10 GB, preallocated virtual hard disk for the windows swap file

I also added advanced options that I saw in another site, which may solve the problem, but they did not help (and has not done anything worse still too). You can find them at the end of the VMX file attached.

  • Screen resolution reset after plugging in the tv

A month ago, I plugged my Dell Inspiron N7110 with Core i5, on TV using HDMI cables, the computer prompted me to change the screen resolution of 1600 x 900. I think the original was 1280 x 720. Now, he won't let not get back together with making my screen is really small and I have the flashing in menu boxes (I can hardly read, they Flash so fast) and my computer will not pages refresh, I have to do forced refreshes. I deleted the cache and still do, but the problem is getting worse. I use the Safari browser and microsoft security essentials. One had it wrong before or know what is causing all this trouble?

Unfortunately none of them worked. My driver is Intel HD family family, was not microsoft Basic. The second suggestion, even happened as when I do it in the menu screen resolution box, my screen is shrinking. It was before the connection to the TV and full screen on a lower resolution.

Thanks for all your suggestions H.A.V. Aravinda, we appreciate it.

  • The button Reset/Restart or script

Hi there, here once again with another Captivate 5 questinon Martin

Im still struggling with my new project. I have prepared a few projecst of training mode for my colleagues... There are some slides with clickboxes that are part of the Quiz (awarded with points).

I have to, somehow, after finishing project as a whole (in the end he is seen blade from a Quiz with max points, accuracy etc) Add button or script to restart the project (points to erase and restore the settings of clickboxes) for the user to be able to resume full training project.

Can you help me? (standard quiz "button recovery" does not work)

    Thanks, Martin

You mention that you have added the button Retake Quiz in the Quiz results slide, but attempts how have you allowed for the overall Quiz?  Have you added the button return to by setting the user allow multiple attempts at the Quiz: switch failure of dialogue screen, then click on view button back?  Or you confuse the Retake Quiz button with the touch of revision Quiz?  The names are very similar and easily mistaken at first glance.

If you have your quiz the value that one attempt (by default), that it does not change the score, even if you do not have the buttons allows 3 attempts.

  • Resolution of display on all guests problem

    Hello

I've been using 6 merger for some time, since the first preview release. Works very well.

Yesterday, however I made the mistake of upgrading to the Mavericks, had to do anyway right?

    Background information:

My setup is a mid-2012 Macbook Pro (no retina) with an external display, where I put the external display to the mirror of the screen of laptop, external keyboard, external mouse so that my laptop is my work station. All guests are normally the installation program is running in mode full screen. Again works very well, have used the Setup program for the years.

My eyes are bad enough, so on the large external display, I use normally 1024 x 768 as a resolution of the screen, which worked very well over the years.

Enter the Mavericks. This no longer works and Fusion 6 is not more help.

Said Mavericks my laptop screen now has the ability to 'Better' - which translates as 'Worst' for me or the alternative is the scaling options:

    1440 x 900

    1280 x 800

    1024 x 640

missing in action here is... 1024 x 768

Mavericks now says my external screen can do:

    1600 x 900

    1080 p

    720 p

I reflect the screens, another screen will simply match either what I choose as my main screen.

I've tried almost everything. As you can see the internal display in fact there a 1024 x 640 that comes close, except that - in the windows at least - you will meet many applications that no longer corresponds to the screen as on all developers assumed that you have at least 1024 x 768 to work with.

    Hmm...

In the long run, finally I found that most of the above is to use the 720 p resolution.

However for windows which resulted in 1280 x 720, as a resolution of the screen and that is a problem.

By train across the windows up to 1024 x 768 gives me black bars on the left and right side of the screen.

Restart the guest with resolutions makes to force himself to 1280 x 720, seems the guest himself to take the host screen resolution requires.

In older versions of workstation and the player could change the screen resolution you want to use. It seems that nowadays it no longer works. I tried some vmx settings, but without success so far.

    Tips are welcome.

PS: No need to me with trick 'buy a bigger screen' I sat close enough to the screen and move my head up/down all the time to oversee the entire screen is not very ergonomic.

PPS: I am currently using windows functionality to enhance the text fonts all 1280 x 720. He "kind of" works, but it is a gross workaround as many applications that I use do not know high DPI.

    Wil

    Wil Hey!

I found a few forum messages discussing the magical things that Mavericks will do when the user holds the button Option/Alt key while doing different things in the view of system preferences pane.  Try to maintain the Option in the selection "Chipped" or hosting Option and choosing "Detect displays"... see if either of those who get your favorite resolution back and avoid having to reconfigure the merger.

(Sorry, I don't have a setup of Mac multi-monitor I can try it with, so I write just that - is and crossing my fingers that this might help.)

    Good luck!

  • monitor screen size, it's on the largest resolution cannot be taken

I bought a used laptop with Windows XP Professional. No matter what I do, including the amendment of the resolution of the screen, I can't see the screen to fill the entire screen.  I can't find any information on the web, other than corrections of screen resolution.  The computer is a dell 620 latitude.  Under the monitor, he said only: default monitor. More high resolution, I can go is 1024 x 768 bits of very high (32).  Help, please.

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft answers Forum.

Follow the steps below to resolve your issue with the screen resolution:

    1. Restart your computer and immediately press the F8 key until you reach the menu Advanced Boot Options.
    2. From the options menu, select Safe Mode.
    3. Right-click on an empty space on the desktop.
    4. Select properties then settings.

  • How to set the lower screen resolution on HP Pavilion

I'm trying to figure out if its possible to lower my screen resolution of 800 x 600 on my HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 - b010us running on Windows 8. I need to do that; It is the only way that I can get my pico projector to run using VGA to HDMI - I tried it with my Sony VAIO and it works perfectly. The lowest setting that I see on my HP is 1024 x 768, and it does not work. Any help? Don't want to have to buy a new projector - this one works very well and the HP laptop has a VGA port

I came across this same issue using the resolution option custom in the Intel driver manager and has had success using mode low resolution.  I had also edited the registry to force more options.  The registry change which resulted in several resolutions between 1366 x 768 and 1024 x 768, but nothing lower.  Windows 8 is not really designed for lower resolutions (at least, which is not the ideal targeted resolutions), so I guess that would be present on any standard notebook Windows 8.

However, I have relevΘ this site today to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything... and it seems that I was.  I don't know how I didn't have to check the option advanced settings for more resolutions.  This approach does not require mode low resolution to restart, but it's going to require a screen resolution > avancΘs > list all modes to get 800 x 600 option each time you need.

Let me know if this has answered your questions.
