Hi Pam,.
This problem could have been took place either because of the chess drivers Atapi or antivirus software that modifies the drivers in the registry.
I would suggest trying the following steps and check if the problem persists.
1. type devmgmt.msc in the Start search and press on enter.
2. press on the longer brand before DVD/CD players.
3. right-click on the DVD drive , you see and click Uninstall.
4 restart the computer.
5. visit the website of your computer manufacturer and download the latest drivers from CD/DVD. Restart the computer so that the changes are applied.
Check if you are able to play the DVD without any problem. If the problem persists, follow the steps mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Note: Since the steps deal with editing the registry, please make a backup of your registry before following the steps in the Microsoft above help article.

Let us know the result once you have tried the steps.

'What's in the name
If the system crashed, power lost, has been reset, power off, had an aborted restart, abnormal termination, etc. while XP is running, you may see messages like this.
Despite what the message and Internet search engines to suggest for the error (such as Microsoft KB307545), the message does not necessarily that the registry is damaged.
In fact, I've never found this is the case. The real problem is usually XP could not find or read the file where it says to look for.
The usual problem when meeting this message is that the file system is corrupted and just run chkdsk/r from the Recovery Console. That will usually fix things well upward.
It makes no sense to start to try to copy the files on a hard drive where the file system is damaged and if begin in this sense, you are probably in for one agonizing and frustrating waste of time for what is usually a very simple problem (how much time you have spent so far?).
You can certainly find out other ideas!
If you have found in the XP Recovery Console, you must run chkdsk /r first.
When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:
Press any key to boot from CD...
Installing Windows... going to pronounce.
Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.
Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)
You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).
You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS. It's the same as the
C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.
The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.
For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:
A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.
In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.
Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem. It won't hurt anything to run it.
Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:
CHKDSK C: /r
Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.
It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck". Be patient. If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something. Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress. It may even seem to go back sometime.
You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.
Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.
You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.
However, because we don't know anything about your system with the exception, it is a laptop, which can be difficult to start.
Maybe someday the dialog box 'ask a question' forums XP will ask these questions automatically when a new thread is started so I don't have to ask every time. It might even be possible to solve a problem in a single response when enough information is provided.
Please provide additional information on your system:
What is your system brand and model?
What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?
Do you know if the system has installed the SATA drives?
The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination? (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)
The afflicted system has a CD/DVD drive work?
You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

Help! Windows cannot load a critical system driver is missing or damaged.
Hello
I really hope that someone can help me! I've read through dozens of discussions without results. The laptop I use for establishing the budget, research and games has Windows Vista. I was downloading of test (probably too at the time) and my system crashed. I do not have the installation disk, or pre-installed her "takeover of marketing", did the thing F8 nothing helps and I can't afford to lose any files.
I get absolutely no where but back to screen Windows Boot Manager telling me that Windows was able to start. The following information is referenced:

Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: Windows didn't load a critical system driver is missing or damaged.
Thank you!

Hello
Via F8 safe mode is not an option for you, try a startup repair and / or a system restore using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft
Manufacturers recovery disks normally do not have Service Options; they are normally a relocation to the factory only settings option.
Here is the guide to repair Options using a Vista DVD from Microsoft.
If a friend or a work acquantance of yours has one, you can borrow and use it for repairs.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-Windows-with-Windows-Startup-Repair/
Table of contents
- Overview of Windows Vista repair options
- How to perform an automatic repair of Windows Vista using Startup Repair
- Advanced Tools Overview
- Conclusion
If you do not or can not borrow a Microsoft DVD there is a download of a file ISO of Vista Startup Repair available that you can put on a Bootable floppy to make the above startup repair and that the method is recommended by a large number of posters in these Forums.
Unfortunately, you have to buy it.
Here is a link to it:

Saving your files:
You can remove the hard drive and put it in a hard drive USB enclosure > plug it into another computer > and try to read and copy your data in this way.
Or, you can download Knoppix > make a bootdisk to > start your system with it (IF your material is all work) > and copy your data from the hard drive like that.
See you soon.

When you say that a recovery disk can not solve the problem you should say disk was and what did you actually
have you tried this:
1st thing to try is a restoration of the system in safe mode
http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm
Windows Vista
Using the F8 method:
- Restart your computer.
- When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
- Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
- Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
- To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
- Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.
If that does not read this information
the link below is how to download and get a vista disk startup repair, which you can start from the

How to fix my computer told me windows cannot load a system driver reviews being missing or damaged
Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.
Restore point:
http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/
Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.
Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...
Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.
http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm
Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html
Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:
http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.
You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
It is NOT a disc of resettlement.
Satellite A205-S6808 corrupt driver CD-ROM/DVD-ROM - Code 39
My driver is corrupted for my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive.
There is absolutely no support for my model on the Toshiba homepage.
I tried to download the drivers for the L L505 series since my tech friend said that he must have worked. He did not.The parade of device upward, but I get a message from missing or corrupt windows driver.
I am running win 7 32 bit and the DVD drive is the same one that came installed when I bought the laptop.This is the message I get "Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) »CAN ANYONE HELP?
Hello
I m a bit confused how you managed to download the CD/DVD driver for the STRANGE internal (optical disc).
The point is that all Windows operating systems contain own driver Microsoft ODD that controls the CD/DVD drive.
That is why it s not necessary to load/install the drivers for the CD/DVD drive.I think it s a registry problem.
You should first go to Device Manager and should remove the CD/DVD of the system drive.Next step is cleaning the registry.
Start regedit and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}After this restart of the unit
Should workWelcome & good luck
PS; It is a model of cell phone US and all the drivers are located on the Toshiba U.S. page.
Acrobat for Microsoft Office 365 PDF print driver is missing or damaged
Acrobat for Microsoft Office 365 PDF print driver is missing or damaged. Tried to repair Acrobat installation. However, MS 365 print AdobePDF doe does NOT - freezes app. Can someone help me find the PDFMaker add-in or plug-in or a support that would allow applications MS OFFICE 365 (v.2013) print to PDF? Thank you in advance. Bob
You should be able to print to the Adobe PDF printer with v. 9 (I think 9.5.5 is later). However, c. 9 is not compatible with OFFICE 365, and that's why you have no PDF Maker. The alternative to OFFICE 365 is to use the built in MS PDF creator (usually in save them to PDF or XPS). With OFFICE 365, this should be part of the package. With earlier versions, it's an add-on. When you select the record, there is a box of options to enable saving of bookmarks and others.
You can get the replacement system install & Restore CD/DVD of the customer support of Apple - to the United States, (800) 767-2775-for a sum low S & h. you will need to have the model or the serial number of your Mac available.
If you are not in the United States, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the phone number. Here is a list of links to all - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html , another resource: International Support Phone #s.
Will there be another windows coming out soon with the floppy drives and DVD players.
Will there be another Windows coming out soon with the floppy drives and DVD players.
Hello
Disks: I don't think so. I always keep 25 floppy disks for Windows 95, should be a few thousand disks for Windows 10. Very, very, very expensive to store files and transport.
Of DVD: would soon come out, new machines will have 10 Windows (who knows) pre-installed or downloaded. You can always find Windows 10 DVD in some countries where users will still have to use dial-up Modem.
Hope it makes sense.
XP SP3 system
I get warnings like this when Mcafee updates.
Process * \MCSHIELD. EXE the nest (428) contained code signed or corrupted and could not perform an operation with a McAfee driver.
Process * \SVCHOST. EXE the nest (1632) contained code signed or corrupted and could not perform an operation with a McAfee driver.
Is this a problem Microsoft or Mcafee?
Do I need to fix?
In the McAfee forums, there are several similar positions such as:
https://community.McAfee.com/message/241542
I'll sue your question on in their community, as they already seem to know about it.
I would also say that, unless you are very fond of McAfee or you are forced to use it, you plan to replace it with something that has a smaller footprint, uses less resources and doesn't have these problems - something like Microsoft Security Essentials, you can get here:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Security-Essentials-download
MSE completed with the free version of MBAM and SAS should permanently keep your clean enough unless you're a daredevil like me:
Download, install, update and do a quick scan with these free malware detection programs (not at the same time) and remove all threats:
Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/SAS will probably report a lot of tracking cookies and you can just let him delete them.
Even if you keep McAfee, I always supplement it with MBAM and SAS since no single AV program does seem to know everything. If your McAfee of your system is clean, I would interpret that means - McAfee found nothing, says he knows. It is prudent to use more than a reputable scanner to get more coverage.
If you choose to spend (and you can't have both at the same time), you must be sure to use the uninstaller that you can get from here:
http://service.McAfee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?LC=1033&ID=TS101331
Your system will give you better performance.
