My DVD-ROM reads CD but not DVD
Hello
I have a XPS 600 and my drive is HL-DT-ST DVD +-RW GWA4164B. For the past 2 or 3 months, he refuses to play the DVD. When I put a disc, nothing happens, and when I double click on the drive in my computer, it tells me to insert a disc. However, it reads CDs fine. What can I do to fix this?

Satellite L755 - 16 c - ODD can read CD but not DVD more
I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite L755 - 16 c. The DVD that I ran on it before (installation of games, software, movies, etc.) is no longer detected by the DVD player. CD works for some reason any.
Whenever I insert a DVD disc in the drive, the light flashes and I feel some movement and hear noises that occurs generally when a disc is entered and be read. However the content of the DVD player does not show. If I click open my computer's DVD player, the DVD is ejected and the computer asks me to enter a disc, as if there was no disc not inserted.
I downloaded the latest BIOS files on their site, but nothing has changed.
On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here. First try to clean the lens. Objective is maybe dirty.
Otherwise, it can be mechanical problem. Is that the position of the lens is different for the reading of the CD and DVD. There may be a problem with the calibration of the lens.Try to clean it first and post comments.

DVD drive reads CD but not DVD.
I use a laptop Gateway M - 151 X with an Optiarc DVD RW AD - 7640 A ATA device. The player is no longer plays DVDs, although it does not read CD. I have read through similar problems on this site and tried to follow the advice given there. So far I have uninstalled the driver (and reinstalled by rebooting) and removed the UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the registry. I also ran this Mr Fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems, who told me that the problem was fixed when I ran with a CD, but he told me that the disc is unreadable when I ran fixit with a DVD. Other suggestions (for example in the selected answer here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistahardware/thread/f388ca10-ba0b-4aa6-8f0d-be24034ada3b) do not seem to apply. Is there anything else I can do in addition to open up the computer and check the cables? I don't know what to look for and won't cause other problems.
I don't know if this is related, but I also ran this Mr Fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/hardware_device_problems, who told me he had a problem with the card Microsoft 6to4 driver, which he is then fixed by put it back automatically.
Get a DVD cleaning disc and use it to wipe the drive. Your drive uses different leaders internally to read CD and DVD so if one works and the other does not, a dirty car may be the cause.

I want to play a DVD-Rom PC game, but not knowing how to do, advice?
I would like to play a game PC DVD - Rom, I tried to follow the directions for my computer, a Windows 7 Acer wireless, but could not. There is no instructions for a game and I did not understand tree ones videos. Can anyone help?
If "AutoPlay" is enabled, the installation starts automatically when you insert a CD/DVD, usually with a window asking if you want to continue, accept the license terms, etc.. If it doesn't happen, you must manually start the process (or turn "Autoplay" in the Control Panel, check the box "Software and games" and re - insert the disc) by opening the PC/DVD (double-click the icon "Computer"), and then double-click "setup.exe" or what is called Setup.

My CD/DVD drive reads CD but not DVD
Hi all
I have a TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633M DVD player in my laptop and after about 6 months of use, the drive stopped reading/writing DVD. It still reads CDs fine and sometimes will read a DVD completely (without provocation and without warning...!) but is very skittish and stops randomly just to play a DVD. Often, the player will eject and give an error message tells me to insert a disc. I don't know what to do.
I am running Windows Vista 32-bit. I tried to run the Microsoft Fixit application, which recognizes that the drive is unable to read DVD but offers nothing more useful than and doesn't solve anything (despite its name...). I've read through a number of different forums and have found a range of advice: replace the disk, uninstall and reinstall the drivers or editing the registry. What should I do to solve this problem? Naturally, I would prefer not to have to replace the drive itself, but if it's the only way...
Thanks in advance!
Mangi
The registry thing only works if the drive is completely AWOL from the system so that it does not appear as a drive in "My Computer"... not your problem. The DVD and CD using different lasers and it is not uncommon to go wrong and the other not. You can check the operation of the DVD trying to boot from a bootable DVD. If you can not drive is bad and needs to be replaced. If it works sometimes and not others it could just need a good cleaning with a DVD lens cleaner.

How can I get the Adobe Reader software, but NOT the "DC" Cloud version?
For years, I appreciated the help of the original Adobe Reader that would allow me to view PDFs via Windows Viewer or my other software, just, as I used to be able to do. Now, it seems that Adobe requires this convoluted "DC" on users version. I don't want to. I don't need all these so-called features. I don't want to "be in the clouds! -I want just a basic version that allows to display a clean image, strong, with zoom tools, etc.
Where can I get what I need, please? Of course, I hope for a version that has the day in safety.
I will appreciate it if someone would provide a URL to the "appropriate" download location link, unless Adobe no longer provides what some users want or need.
Hi Larry cross,
You can download Adobe Reader XI from the link below:
http://get.Adobe.com/reader/Enterprise/
You must select the operating system you use, the language of Adobe Reader you want to and the version of Adobe Reader (Select 11.0.10).

DVD/CD rom drive reads CDs but does not read the DVD.
My Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop has a DVD/CD rom drive. It loads all the CD I want and them automatically opens on the D drive. When I put in a DVD movie it will not play. I open my computer, and then look at the D drive, and it does not even recognize that there is a DVD inside but it shows a screen of a CD that I put in there. This tells me that it works and it has a green light on the side which shows. Also, when I insert the DVD it makes sounds as it tries to recognize, but then it stops and does not appear. Can anyone help? I really appreciate it. I'm not very savvy computer. I know that some in this topic because I am a teacher and try to catch up with things, but I'm certainly no computer technology. ATAPI DVD A DH16AYH ATA Device read DVD but not CD
Engraver of CD/DVD in Compaq Presario 5010NX w / VistaBasic read any DVD but has problems with CD if I insert a music CD, sometimes it will open right and I can play music. Most of the time he just tells me to "insert a disc", usually open the status bar, but not always. If I close the drawer [or eject and close the tray] from 3 to 15 times, he finally opens the CD. Generally. Sometimes I drop and open it on my old computer Millennium, [which never fails to open the CD]. I bought a cleaning disc, but it still happens. Also, it stopped opening the tray with the manual key (1,200 works tent) and will always open with 'Eject' of the computer, but only with DVD and sometimes will open with the "eject" computer with the CD never if it is empty, so I always keep a known disc "opener" in the status bar. (if I forgot, I use a paper clip)
I did an online search of the Device Manager for a driver update and he told me that the best software is already installed. I just need a new burner? Why is - that it will work with DVD CD not? driving me crazy. Thank you ps can not find a burner mfgr. says simply "drive SuperMulti DVD with Lightscribe" - pps I tried uninstalling the Device Manager, and then restart the computer - no change. Haven't tried the support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems diagnostic program no solution I came across a post from someone else who had the same problem [former position & 'uninstall & reboot' was the only suggestion on this one.] I can't believe that it could be physical burner... why he wouldn't hesitate to read the DVD if it was a physical problem? Help?

Equium L20-264: CD/DVD player can read but not burn discs
Hi all
I need help. My laptop cd/dvd driver does not recognize the discs inside. It only happens when I try to burn a disc. She can read but not burn the discs. What could be the solution? I tried different brands, the last time it was Maxell. The manual suggests Mitsubishi discs, but I'm not sure that it only works with the Mitsubishi discs. It can read any kind of disc.
So I'm in trouble, please help.
THX
GaborHello
In the manual, you will find a list of media recommended because this media has been tested and were working properly.
However, I use TDK CDs and DVDs and it works as well.
Juan suggested in another ad that sometimes 3rd applications or DVD copy locks are responsible for some driver problems:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=12497What I mean is that it is not easy to give a generally the solution of these problems.
You should try different media, burning software and if it doesn t work so it s is a malfunction of the equipment. In this case, you will need to replace the drive. -
writing cd Rw but not rw dvd .plz read the full message
Hello Sir,
I bought this laptop used at a local retailer, the hp compaq nc6400 model. Windows 7 installed on it. but the problem is that it writes CD RW but some DVD RW reading and does not not save. I tried to understand as far as I can tell, it's a combo drive because when there is no disc inside the icon on the cd shows DVD/CD RW E: drive, so to the best of my intellect, I understand that it is hopfully a combo drive. I also read the manual, even is written there. so, please guide me that how I can write DVD RW on my system and how I can confirm with certainty that my drive is a combo drive, not just a cd re writable? I read the question already posted to this topic and the answer too, but I don't want to use nero I would write using windows and the said method in windows help that is, dragging the files first. Please answer as soon as possible.
Thanks a lot for your concern.
You need to check the capabilities of the car - there are a good number of readers out there that read and write CDs but play only DVDs and impossible to write about them. Compaq web site should be able to tell or you can get the brand/model number of the drive from Device Manager and do a Google search.

DVD/CD drive will read DVD but not CD
My DVD player plays DVD but not CD. Whenever I try to play a CD, the player is a kind of hum noise. Finally, the Player opens and a popup tells me to insert a disc.

DVD - ROM SD-M1612 does not recognize DVD
I tried to search, but this search system is not very intuitive. In any case, I found the heading "DVD - ROM SD-M1612 doesn't recognize DVD".
I'm having the same problem.I know the drive works, I use for 5 years or so now, however long he is out. I replaced my hard drive, reinstalled my OS and now it doesn't recognize DVD. !!????
I tried all day to look for a solution. Fireware v1004. It reads CD fine, but not very strange DVD.
It also delays my startup process if a DVD is in the drive, by a very long time.
Any thoughts on what I have to update?
My motherboard is an ASUS P4TE
Hello Fred
Why are you so sure that the drive is not faulty? If the player is old, it is possible that there is problem with the calibration of laser for DVD playback. I presume you n t have problem with CD with original DVD movies. Am I wrong?
