My DVD - RW Drive (drive E:\) Player disappears

My DVD - RW Drive (drive E:\) Player disappears in my computer and so I can't read CDs. I already follow the methods specified by Microsoft. First of all, I try to remove the upperfilter and UpperFilter in regedit ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116/en-us ). However, it is not UpperFilter in regedit for me to remove it. Help me.

Hello

-Have you tried to do a system restore?

-Is a desktop PC or a laptop?

-What happens when you press the eject button on the cd/dvd drive?

This could also happen if there is some sort of virus on the computer that made the invisible device in Device Manager.

So, I recommend you run a complete virus scan and audit system.

Perform a full scan of service on your system.

Step 1: Microsoft Safety Scanner
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again. The Microsoft Safety Scanner is not a replacement for the use of antivirus software that offers continuous protection. For protection in real time, which helps you to protect your home or small office PC against viruses, spyware and other malicious software, download
Microsoft Security Essentials.

Important: When performing analysis on the hard drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when parsing tent repair this sector if all available on which data can be lost.

Step 2: Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials from the below mentioned link.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/products/security-essentials/download

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Hope this information helps.

    Hi all, I have an embarrassing problem with my DVD - RAM drive. I do not see it in Windows XP, but it worked fine when I boot from the drive - in fact, I just picked up the laptop using the DVD - RAM drive.

    In Device Manager, the DVD-RAM is listed as a carpet * a UJ-840 years and there the formidable yellow typical beside indicating a problem. I tried to get a new driver for this device, but have not been able to find one - the Microsoft driver seems to be the only one available.

    I have run a recovery of product, as when the problem was first of all I thought it was caused by a corrupted driver but, after using DVD-RAM for reimage the laptop successfully by using the DVD-RAM drive, but the same problem occurs. I am really confused as to why it works outside Windows, but even on a new facility full of Windows, it will not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey mate,

    First of all you n t need another driver for CD/DVD drive. It s a part of Windows and so you won't find any other versions. Don t so worry about this!

    Normally, I suggest that you should try to remove the upper and lower filters but you already have a new clean install of Windows so I think your drive is defective and must be replaced.
    But you can try it: follow of workaround: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

    In the user manual, you can find a list of compatible drives. You should buy one of this list because not all readers are compatible with all laptops.

    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
    They will tell you how to do this.
  • Portege A600-133: DVD player disappears from my computer
    Hello
    I have a laptop Portege A600-133.
    First of all, it is slow at the opening of my computer screen.
    Second: after ejecting a disc dvd or cd, Windows still shows the contents of the disc, the system hangs for a while, a USB unplug sound can be heard and the dvd player disappears from Windows (in my computer / Explorer / Device Manager)
    What this may be?
    I did already the round of upper/lower filters in the registry, but it does not solve the problem...
    I opened the computer laptop and checked the wiring to the dvd drive, cleaned the contacts, supported on the connectors.
    But the problem is still there...
    OS = Windows XP SP3
    Kind regards
    Arjan
    Hello
    My first idea was to remove the upper and lower registry key filters, but it seems that you have already done this.
    Nevertheless, here is a knowledge of MS on the upper and lower filters article mentioned.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us
    Hmm if the unit is not present in the device manager then this means that the device is not connected or he's dead
    You should check if the ODD (optical disc) is recognized in the BIOS.
    You should also check if it of possible to boot from the bootable CD.
    If this is not possible then it may mean that your WEIRD malfunction
  • Help! DVD/CD drive does not!
    Help! I used the Microsoft Fix It, I went through community forums and followed the links here and there, I even followed of it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929461 that requires you to modify your registry! YET, without success!
    Yesterday, the Windows Vista update ran, everything was hunky dory and a-okay (or so I thought). After that I turned off the computer, ran some errands, the CD-ROM/DVD-rom drive does not work! When I try to run a program installed which requires a disc (like a video game) I get the message "unable to locate the CD-ROM: Please insert the right CD-ROM, select OK and restart the program" even if the disk is in the computer. When I try to insert media, AutoPlay will not... Well... running! I went to the COMPUTER file and found 2 things; underneith the tip where it know "Devices with removable storage" I found a D:\ RW Drive who said that the device was not found, and to the right a menu similer who told me to "Insert a disc" when I clicked on D:\ RW.
    I looked in the DEVICE MANAGER to take a peek at my drivers and find my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM driver and he told me that the unit was working properly - HOWEVER, when I run Microsoft Fix It he told me something different. He told me my filters of class are corrupt, filter of device drivers are corrupt, device is not working properly, drive is disabled, drive is not assigned a drive letter. Now it's all hunky dory but I don't speak computer, and I would like to DISABLE ONE and non-CORRUPT everything!
    I have already done a system restore and follow the link that requires you to enter in your registry and remove the filters. It's a gateway computer, I already spoke with gateway and they told me to do a factory restore (which I have not yet done because I would like to know if there is a way to fix this problem without uninstalling EVERYTHING on my computer).
    I really hope that this is not a lost cause. Help me to Microsoft, you're my only hope.
    Try this step for your DVD player problem:
    Delete the UpperFilters registry entry:
    Click Start, in the search box, type regedit, and then press ENTER.  Start the registry editor.
    The UpperFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.
    Note do not exit the registry editor. You must have this program for the next step.
    Delete the LowerFilters registry entry
    1. in the registry editor, expand my computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    2. expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
    3. expand Control and class.
    3. click on the + sign next to CD/DVD PLAYERS
    4. the + sign will become a sign - and you can have a list of several drivers drop-down below. If so, each driver must be removed at once.
    To remove a driver simply hover the mouse over the driver, right click the mouse once and choose "Uninstall".
    5. continue to remove those drivers until it is no longer a topic for the CD/DVD PLAYERS.
    6. search for IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers and repeat the same steps to delete all of them as you did for CD/DVD players.
    Note: When asked to restart, not until all are uninstalled
    7. the title of IDE/ATA/ATAPI Controller will not disappear and all controllers may not disappear after being uninstalled
    8. click on the X in the upper right corner of the window MANAGER of DEVICES.
    9 restart the system and let windows reload the correct drivers.
    Hello
    I just replaced my DVD ROM drive, but I had a problem.
    It is a new DVD rom drive I ordered at TOSHIBA also.
    -Tried to check on Device Manager, not detected
    Note:
    Whenever I tried to re - insert the disc, the blue light in the control panel of my P20 beds (I understand, which means that the P20 detects the drive) but I don't understand, is that why Windows XP does not detect it or it does not alarm or error messages.
  • Satellite Pro A100: Mat * a UJ - 841 s DVD Multi drive does not
    Hello
    I have a Satellite Pro A100 with a carpet * a UJ - 841 s DVD Multi Drive.
    Recently, I decided that as my laptop is running slowly I wanted to format and reinstall XP Pro, I used a standard version of OEM XP Pro (not seller specfic) and he went on the formatting and the reconstruction of my laptop.
    Fortunately, I used Acronis True Image to backup my laptop before I did that my above mentioned dvd player is so more to bury properly (all the drivers and the necessary software has been installed). Before I formatted the laptop I could burn on + and - DVD (r, rw and ram) now that the laptop has been rebuilt, I can only burn to dvd-r/rw/ram.
    I restored from my laptop to the picture created by Acronis and can use the drive normally again to burn + and - DVD.
    Does anyone know why this would have stopped working in the new installation of Windows? I also tried to create a virtual machine using the same xp disc but it always gives me the problem of dvd player.
    Thank you
    Hello
    It will be interesting to know if this happens with all data media you use.
    In my opinion you must first locate the source of this problem. Check if your DVD - RAM drive works correctly using different CD, DVD and DVD - RAM of course. If Yes, in this case it is a problem specific, based on the game CD.
  • Tecra M7 DVD: CD/DVD RAM drive does not work since the installation of Vista
    I did a clean install on my new Vista Ready M7. He had XP tablet in a first time, and the DVD player worked fine. In fact I used to install Vista (Home Premium).
    Now it doesn't work at all. It runs but does not read. Device Manager tells me impossible to start the device. Tried to update driver and he told me that he has the most uptodate pilot.
    Downloaded all the drivers from the Download Center of Tosh for upgrade of Vista of M7 (who got bluetooth, rotation etc. function properly the screen). But none of the downloads seems to be a driver for the DVD - Ram drive. He cannot find a driver anywhere else (including the Panasonic site).
    Any suggestions?
    Hello
    On the Toshiba driver page, you can find the DLA for Tecra m7.
    Have you tried to install the XP driver DVD-RAM since the Toshiba page on the Vista operating system?
    Maybe it'll market
    But listening the CD/DVD drive uses the current Microsoft drivers that are included in Vista or XP.
    This is why an additional driver should not be necessary!
    An additional proposal;
    Remove the drive from the Device Manager CD/DVD and restart the laptop.
    After restarting again the OS should reinstall the drive and renew the software.
    Another tip:
    -Launch the registry
    -Choose the registry key;
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    -In the right pane, click UpperFilters and LowerFilters, and then click on remove.
    -Reboot the laptop
    You can find a small hole near the CD/DVD to eject the drive.
    Put a small card or PIN in this hole and the CD/DVD drive should eject manually.
    In my case, it always helps.
