My DVD RW drive (E) does not recognize or read any disk inserted.
My DVD RW drive (E) does not recognize or read any disk inserted. I have a desktop HP with Windows Vista home premium. I used to be able to play CDs & DVDs, but also to burn discs on it. Now it will not read discs program even not. This happened earlier & I never understood the problem so I just gave up. Now I need to use a program disk to use a wireless router & I can't because my reader will not read the disc. I already checked the Device Manager and it says that all drivers are at day & work properly.
Hello
Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.
Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
below.
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Hello
The first thing that I would recommend before you do the radical and re install Windows or upgrade to Windows 7, is to make sure that you have backed up your files. Make sure that you have a separate player and follow the steps described in this article. To be honest, it sounds like the drive has gone wrong at this stage. Normally, this sounds like it would be a driver problem, but if you have uninstalled them and are 100% sure that you have installed the good and still no joy, so I think we can exclude.Have you tried several discs in the drive, correct? It is not just a problem with the special CD that you use right?I would say your best bet is at this time to try another drive on the machine, especially if you do not want to go through the hassle of reinstalling Windows. You may be surprised how well they come these days. The last of them, that I bought on Amazon (I think) was a little more than $25 in the United States. -

After Vista update cannot find the external hard drive, AutoPlay does not work, and new unusable disk appears under my computer. Also I can't 'manage' my computer because I do not have "permissions". I tried a fix he 45071 and it did nothing.
Applications, (Norton and McAfee) (including free evaluation versions are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.) If NIS has been installed for 3 years, you have NIS update at least once and maybe twice (e.g., NIS 2009 > NIS 2010 > NIS 2011).
[You may want to print these instructions for reference offline. If a step said to reboot, reboot.]
1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe
2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).
3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) viaControl Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).
4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.
NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!
5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.
6. do a clean install of NIS 2011 (using your product ID, if need be) & reboot. CF. http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN
NOTE: Do NOT activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.
8. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the difficulty.
9. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 & run that set it by DEFAULT and modes and AGGRESSIVE. [1]
10. restart once again & test.
NB: Installation KB971029 disables AutoRun/autoplay on USB connected but not 'brilliant media' external drives (i.e., CDs & DVDs). See http://blogs.technet.com/b/msrc/archive/2011/02/08/deeper-insight-into-the-security-advisory-967940-update.aspx

Carpet * a DVD-RAM UJ - 841S does not recognize movie DVD on Satellite Pro A100
I have a portable Satellite Pro A100-PSAAPE.
Initially the played DVD movies very well, but now it does not recognize DVD movie at all.
The drive itself is recognized and works very well with recovery DVD and CD-ROM.
Phone support: they had me reinstall the driver and boot from the recovery DVD. This does not solve the problem. They then said to do a system restore. Tried, but it seems that the previous restorations of system are in themselves unsuccessful and the restoration of the system that has worked has not solved the problem.
MediaPlayer and Intervideo WinDVD seem to work well, but do not find the DVD in the drive.
They advise now reinstall me to factory setting, but don't want to build the laptop up to scratch etc, so I'm hoping that there may always be a solution.
Can anyone help please?
Thank you
Best wishes
idob
Hello
You understand that you must specify if it is a hardware or software problem.
Unfortunately, you can find this secret only using recovery DVD (CD).
Toshiba recovery installation will define the laptop back to the factory settings. In this case you may find whether or not the CD/DVD device is defective. If the player will not play the DVD after the reinstallation of the operating system, then chances are that it is a CD/DVD drive error.
Good bye

Hello
You mean that the CD/DVD drive is not listed in Device Manager?
You see the CD/DVD drive in BIOS?
Check this box... If the CD/DVD is not recognized in the BIOS then it means that your CD/DVD drive is dead! But if the CD/DVD drive is listed in the BIOS, and if in Device Manager, you see only a yellow exclamation mark then I recommend to remove (uninstall) the CD/DVD drive in Device Manager and restart the laptop again.
After restarting again the CD/DVD drive must be recognized again by OS
If you are looking for a driver for ODD then I would say; Forget it!
The OS of windows already contains the driver for the CD/DVD drive and it is not necessary to install other drivers. In addition, this drivers don t exist. -

Hello
Please make all below even if you have done some before as it is often the set of operations which solves
the question.Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or

DVD - ROM SD-M1612 does not recognize DVD
I tried to search, but this search system is not very intuitive. In any case, I found the heading "DVD - ROM SD-M1612 doesn't recognize DVD".
I'm having the same problem.I know the drive works, I use for 5 years or so now, however long he is out. I replaced my hard drive, reinstalled my OS and now it doesn't recognize DVD. !!????
I tried all day to look for a solution. Fireware v1004. It reads CD fine, but not very strange DVD.
It also delays my startup process if a DVD is in the drive, by a very long time.
Any thoughts on what I have to update?

My DVD - RW drive (E :) does not work
Hello everyone
My DVD - RW drive (E :) has stopped working. It has stopped reading DVDs but it will play CD and CD-ROM. My drive D (CD - RW) work well and plays the CD and CD-ROM without problem.
I have a Dell Dimension DM051and Windows XP Professional SP3. The problem E drive is HL-DT-ST DVD + RW GWA4164B
I used Device Manager to try to solve the problem, but it wrongly States "this device works correctly. I tried 'Drives and troubleshooting of network adapters' but it was too 'unable to resolve your problem... " I reached the "you need to install or update a decoder?" and do not know if I have to buy a decoder from one of the Microsoft recommended "solution providers" to solve the problem or not? Are there available free patches? I downloaded the relevant E113.zip Support of Dell, but this too made no difference.
The DVD player is on the correct DVD region.
I tried Microsoft guided help clean boot, but it was "impossible to download right now" and was told to try again later.
I tried Microsoft Fixit 50027 and concluded that "media in the CD/DVD drive is not readable (HT-DT-ST DVD + RW GWA4164B) the drive is empty or the media format is not supported..." "No not fixed"
Can anyone help?
Thank you very much

Why do a DVD/CD-RW-ROM does not recognize blank DVD - RW disc?

I applied all the patches that are available without success. The file I want to burn requires between 4 and 6 CD ordinary, while I only need a DVD to copy. I've removed the filters in the registry, ran all patches automatic, verified that the drive appears in the system as it is recordable, updated the driver. Is there anything else I can try? Internet research indicates that your device does only support writing CD not DVD. This is a combo DVD-ROM and CD - RW.
