  Hi, I used the all scanner part in one printer on August 13, 2013 with epson scan program. Everything has worked perfectly as usual.
  The next morning, I tried to scan a document and got a message saying scanner not available.

(Epson uk is convinced the printer no longer exists, but they still sell cartridges for it.) the scanner was still reported as only unavailable.   Finally I tried on my linux OS and the printer and the scanner works properly.

  I also tried on my Windows7 laptop with the same results as my main PC Windows7.

  This article from Epson says that the driver is included in Windows 7.

  I don't see any info out there that clearly explains how to add it.  It simply States that you must go to "add a printer".  Looks like you already did this well.

  Try a reboot.

  Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

  Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  Isolate a problem by using a different user account

  If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test.
