My MBPr takes about 30 minutes to start

I'm on a late 2013 MBPr 15 ", 2.6 GHz, 16 GB ram, osx 10.9.5 mavericks. He used to start in half a minute, and a year ago it became a half hour. I don't know what happened. The reason I can resist this slowness was that I rarely "close" my mac. Most of the time I just close the lid and let it sleep unless there is a system failure which forced me to press and hold the power button to turn off. Initially I suspected that it was because the machine was not closed down, but discovered later reboot had nothing to do with the way in which it was closed.

I decided today to tackle the problem and the first thing I'll do is start my mac in verbose mode. I checked also system logs in the Console app today and I don't think he has much to say on the issue.  I hope that I can get a decent screenshot in verbose mode to post here later today.

If anyone knows where in the system to review, please let me know. I am uncomfortable with the help of Terminal Server. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Communities. From your problem description, I understand that you are facing problems when the computer starts.

    1. what operating system is installed on the computer?

Please go ahead and follow the steps mentioned and later a update on the State of the question.

Method 1: Check if the problem is caused by some faulty devices on your computer. I suggest that you disconnect all external devices except the mouse and keyboard to your computer and check to see if the same problem happens.

Method 2: Try to run the troubleshooter of Performance:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-performance-Troubleshooter

Method 3: Try to boot in safe mode and check if the same problem occurs.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    (For Windows Vista)

Method 4: If the question does not exist in Mode safe mode then try to set up your computer in a clean boot state, and check to see if the same problem happens.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 3 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.

  • Startup takes about 5 minutes to complete to start on my HP laptop.

Desktop loads upwards just fine, fast, straight bar tool with the exception of the Wi Fi Connected icon, it takes about 5 minutes to appear, this time on that hard drive lite is a little hard. If you tap the icon on the tool bar network bars she says you are connected. If you try to open something out of the Office during that time, he just sits there watching waiting for you to start to complete. Once starting over thing work fine, that too, if you plug in a USB key during the startup time (5 minutes), you hear the sound that you always hear when you plug one but it doesn't appear in Windows Explorer until after 5 minutes of waiting. I did a system restore to a moment where it was sunny and that did not help. I ran a defrag on the C drive, I ran a disk check, with no errors found. I look in the task during this time Manager, and you see no programs running. I run Malwarebytes and Super Anti Spyware and nothing detected. Can someone help me with this?

    Hello

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Forum.

I understand that the process of starting your computer is slow. Let me ask you a few questions to better understand.

    1. What security software do you use?
    2. You did it all meaning hardware or software change?
    3. You get the error message? If Yes, when and what is the exact error message?

I suggest that you perform a clean boot procedure, and then try to install the add-in.

See the link to perform the clean boot.

Method 1: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Important: Put your system to the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

Note: See " " How to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting "to prepare the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting. "

    Method 3: Optimize Windows performance

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/optimize-Windows-better-performance#optimize-Windows-better-performance=Windows-7

Note: Data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means there is a risk of data loss.

Note: When running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area so all available data on this risk be lost.

Method 4: You can use the provided patch below it article and check if that helps to solve some problems.

  • L20 - 264 takes about 10 minutes to stop

Hi my L20 - 264 is very very slow when stopping down, standing or hibenating.
Select start/turn off computer he can takes about 5 minutes to bring up the options bar. Of and then selecting turn off for example then pick up another 5 minutes before the laptop actually powers.
There is no software hogging the system because I've been surfing or play media files.
Is due to the fact that it has only 192 MB of ram, because I thought the upgrade anyway. Or I am barking the wrong tree?

    See you soon

    Hello

    I agree with Jonathan

A little more RAM can be very good, and it can make your device faster and more flexible. I recommend you to check all active running process. Generally, many of them is absolutely useless, but they can slow down the system quickly especially if the device does not have a lot of RAM.

I recommend clean up the operating system, use the Defragmenter tool and check applications that start with Windows. Many of them may be disabled. Enforcement antivir may also slow the operating system currently running. Check all this. I hope that your device will work better.

By the way: the compatible memory module for your device are
    DDR2 400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25)
    512 MB DDR2-400/533 (PA3412U - 1 M 51)

    Good luck!

    Hello

Have you checked the CPU usage rate?
Start the Task Manager and check if any strange background process needs the full CPU performance.

I also recommend to check the laptop for some viruses and malware. These programs could make the laptop and the lazy BONE.

However the portable equipment could bad work.
You should check the memory using the Memtest86 program. It s freeware. Check the HARD drive for bad sectors and also try to defragment the HARD drive!

  • You try to transfer data to new computer, takes about 30 minutes to collect data, and then told me that it will take 33 + hours of transfer

I have 2 PC, two 40 g X 2 g, an old score about 12 GB of data, 71% free, new is ready to receive. When I make the connection with a null cable and start, it takes about 30 minutes to put together and start the transfer, but it gives a transfer time of 33 + hrs and that means, I let it run for about 6 hours, and he was always less than 6% of fact. No games or large, larger files is about 12 MB. Any help? Bob

If cable "null", you hear a serial RS-232 cable, you probably chose the slowest method of data transfer possible.  A serial cable tops out at raw data of 115 Kbps (115 000 bits per second) rate the most current Ethernet 100 Mbit/s connection - is about 1000 times faster.

I don't know why some s/w you use takes 30 minutes to "collect" information before starting the transfer, but if you have about 12 GB of data (and don't have / want an Ethernet connection), why not just get a big enough USB.  You can get a 8 GB USB key for less than $15 and a 16 GB for about $20.  If you have USB 2.0 (which is likely, unless your old computer is older than 10 years), the maximum raw data rate is 480 Mbps with rates effective data around 20-30 MB/s for the memory sticks.

At 20 MB/s, 12 GB should be transferred in about 600 seconds or 10 minutes.

  • 64-bit Windows 7 system takes 10-15 minutes to start

I had the same install of Windows 7 on my desktop since 2009. The Office has faced a lot of hardware upgrades. I replaced the video card three times, the main hard drive once and last year updated card motherboard and CPU. That the last change in particular has many victims, adding 3 or 4 minutes to start time.  I'm looking for more than 10 minutes when I hit the power button when the Office has completely loaded and the system is usable.

A few months ago, I reduced my startup time of 15 minutes to 9 minutes to uninstall Avast (that I replaced with Windows Defender). However, it has been creeping upward again. In recent days I uninstalled a lot of old software, cleaned my temporary files, used CC Cleaner to solve some problems of register and clean unnecessary files more and used the Autoruns utility to eliminate many services and drivers that I need not running when you start Windows. I did not notice an improvement in startup time; in fact, it seems slightly less good, but maybe it's my imagination. In general, it takes about 6 minutes to get to the deskop visible mission and another + 5 minutes for desktop computer to be fully charged and all usable.

I have a software minimum run at startup: Windows Defender, DataColor SpyderUtility and Realtek HD Audio manager.

This is my work computer and I can't save 40 hours or more, he would have to reformat the hard drive, reinstall Windows, download all updates for Windows, download and install Adobe Creative Suite, Studio Android, Android SDK, Git, Mercurial, FlashDevelop, the AIR SDK, Eclipse, MAGIX Music Maker and many other utilities.

I can provide the newspapers that might help troubleshoot the root cause of the problem, let me know which. Since the upgrade to a Gigabyte P55M-UD2 and i7 - 860 a MSI Z97 - G45 and i7 - 4770 k triggered my startup time of 4-5 minutes, I feel like it would be a good place to focus first. I imagine that there is some driver issue or a similar problem, but have been unable to diagnose on mine.

  • Roxio takes about 190 minutes to compress my dvd for burning, is this normal?

    Time to compress the video

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron N4110 Win7 professional.  The laptop uses a dual-core Intel Pentium B940 / processor dual thread clocked at 2 GHz with 4 GB RAM and 200 GB of free space on the hard disk.  I am recording video analog (NTSC) and stereo audio to aid Easy VHS of Roxio hardware to DVD / software package.  Video is scanned in real time by the A/D converter.  A 100-minute VHS video produced a mpg of 6.13 GB hard disk file.  The compression process of Roxio to shrink the file to mpg of 6.13 GB less than 4.7 GB for recording on a DVD + R single takes about 190 minutes.  Is it a normal time for my laptop?  Are there other programs of compression that would be much faster?    Would be a better laptop with an Intel quad core / 8 processor i7-2860QM thread and 8 GB of RAM to reduce the significant period of time compression, for example less than 60 minutes?

    DVD-video is encoded more time-based
as the size of the file. Compression is not necessary.

A video file of 100 minutes should fit on a 4.7 GB DVD.
