Names of Windows network

How can I remove a former name of the workgroup in My Network Places/package network/Microsoft Windows Network that is no longer valid?

Go to system properties and rename the Working Group, this is done on the computer name tab (to rename this computer or join a domain, click on change).  All computers in the network of peers should have the same workgroup name.

Original title: Shared readers do not reconnect

I have two PCs connected wireless. A laptop (Vista Business) was the drives mapped to actions on the other PC (XP). Whenever the Vista PC is started or out of hibernation, or after only a short period of time these discs are not available. Click on the drive in Explorer to display the message "an error occurred during connection [drive letter]: [share name] Microsoft Windows network: the local device name is already in use." This connection has not been restored. »

If I click on 'Network' within Solution Explorer, the XP PC is not visible. The only way that I can "reconnect" these disks is to go into my anti-virus (Trend) and open the network map. This shows the XP PC and then the shares are available through Explorer - XP PC is still not visible by clicking network however.

It started only happens in the last two months - cannot locate exactly when, but quite recently. I use connections to store small files and backup critical files a few before nailing the laptop away and it is quite annoying to have to go through this routine every time.

    Any ideas?

Just in case it helps others - I found that if I make sure that my XP PC has a fixed IP address, and then set up the shares so that they are defined using the IP address and not share names, then I do have more problems - seems like it's something to do with Windows solve the share names rather than something to do with the personal firewall after all.

  • Difference between "Home network" and "Business Network" WITHOUT a domain name in Windows 7?

I'm paranoid and always try to choose security options more high.  In preparation for the implementation of a small Windows 7 network behind a NAT router wireless and wired, I'm working through "Microsoft Windows 7 in depth" by Cowart and Knittel (what, rights of copyright 2010).  I fell right on the following steps (mentioned verbatim in p. 446-447), that I don't understand.  (The steps are clear enough but the real difference between the first two choices is not.) :

«.. . Click on change settings, click Network ID...  You are prompted to select the option that best describes your computer:

    • This computer belongs to a network of business; I use it to connect to other computers at work.
    • This computer is a computer at home; It is not part of a corporate network.

«That one you choose made a significant difference...»  If you choose the option "Business Network", Windows configures your computer for a better level of security it will be for domestic use [my underlining].  The wizard then asks you choose one of the following responses:

    • My company uses a network with a domain name
    • My company uses a network without a domain name

«.. . If you build your own network as described in this chapter, select a field, then click Next.  The last question asks a name for the network working group.  Leaving the WORKING group by default in place".

It seems that you can set up a "Business Network" 'without a domain' that outward behaves as a similar "home network".  If Yes, what is this 'higher standard of security' that will result? -JCW2

There is only one difference between home network and profiles work that appears when you sign in for the 1st time.

A profile of home network allows to create or join a homegroup, on a job profile that you can not. So what it means actually using the term "business" is false and the differences in security are limited.

One of the limitations of a workgroup can access one action requires the credentials of all users to set up on the host pc, setting up a homegroup automatically creates a common user between computers that could be considered a low security setting...

  • HP office jet pro 251dw: find the name of the network printer

    Hello

I want to create a shortcut of the queue for the ability to quickly cancel a print job

To do this, I need the name of printer network such as:

    C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe printui.dll/o/n HP6CC21747B66E

The above is incorrect. How to find the correct network name

    Thank you

    Frank C

I found the Brink tutorial on creating a shortcut of printer queue:
Shortcut of the print queue - create in Windows 7 and Windows 8

In my case, the name of the printer is "Printer HP Officejet Pro 251dw PCL 6 (network)"
It must be in quotes because of the spaces.

I did create it a shortcut in the location target using the following:
%WinDir%\System32\rundll32.exe printui.dll/o/n "Printer HP Officejet Pro 251dw PCL 6 (network)"

I ran a test with no paper in the printer, so it couldn't print.
I have performed the shortcut, the print job in the queue. I canceled it
    And it worked!

  • AC2400 (E8350) router cannot map USB hard drive in Windows network.

    Hi all

I recently bought the Linksys AC2400 wireless router and a USB 3 Western Digital Elements 2 TB hard drive.

The network works perfectly, except for the USB hard drive. The firmware on the router recognizes it okay, but in the windows network, I can't access your hard drive. I simply get a path not found error.

    I tried:

Y access inside or outside Windows Homegroup.

-Re - formatting in the linksys configuration (Fat32... There is room for improvement)

-Test the USB drive directly into the PC, works perfectly and formatted in NTFS.

    -Turn off all firewalls.

-Tried the port USB2/Esata instead of the USB3

Also, from another computer on the network, I get the same error.

Pre-installed on the hard drive was a mediaserver program called Twonky. He wants autoconnet to my router using port 9000, but the web interface I get then does nothing. Also when I enable the mediaserver configuration linksys website, he created a mediaserver in windows network, wth pilots twonk. But I can't change that.

When I test the ftp server, I had access to the hard drive without any problem. This suggests that it is not a compatibility problem.

I could also map the Windows ftp server, but that does not work on my mediaplayer, I need for this network interface.

Does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong and why windows is unable to connect to your hard drive?

I didn't install the new version of firmware, because the changelog mentions nothing about the functions of the USB or storage.

I've added a few photos with the settings, it could be useful.

THX in advance for any response.

    3. Choose the drive letter

  • Remove or replace the name of the network (Vista, wired to the router)

I have 4 computers on my network home (a new laptop and Windows 7 desktop computer and an older laptop and desktop Vista, which are replaced - laptops are wireless).  I had a LOT of problem with printer sharing, especially after a reboot printer goes offline, and I can't find any way to get them back another remove printers and reinstalling (disappointment, disappointment, disappointment) online.  And then I started having problems with one of the Vista (cables to the router) computers access the computer Windows 7 new, also wired to the router.

Then I will begin first with the last problem.  Trying to get the old wired Office Access/recognize the new desktop windows 7 Wired, I ended up resetting my fairly new Linksys router e2500 to its factory setting - and in the process gained a new network name.  I finally understood how to get the laptops wireless to recognize the new network (should be easy, but it wasn't), but the old wired Vista insists on the use of the former name of network, one that appears in the network and sharing Center implementation.  The other funny thing is that even though she seems to be using the former name of network, I put on Jack autour with her so I don't have Internet access on my old Vista computer.

I guess that because it is trendy, it seems not to worry about the network name, but it's bothering me because it's not fair.  However, I can't find any way to delete the old name of network.  I spent the day on that and am still confused.  Baffled because it is working and baffled because I can change the name.  I also get a lot of mistakes "Windows cannot access \\myWindows7computername" when I double click on the name displayed in the network folder of Windows Explorer (probably more serious problem).  In any case, I want to address what should be first the problem of easire.

I discovered enabled network, public folder sharing, which transforms file on the computer discovery and Vista network, sharing the printer and sharing active files (but only on the printer and all the other things of file not checked), and sharing files public computer to Windows 7 (the one with the printers connected to it) - and passwords disabled on both (all computers).

So my first question is how to make the network name on the Vista desktop wired old deleted/changed/replaced for the new name of the current network.  Why it does not insist in using the former name of network that no longer exists.

    Ron in round rock

Sorry about that, but I got my answer from another forum, a Linksys Forum - and I will talk about a few things in case other people have this problem/question.

To remove the network name that appears on the Network Center and sharing, click on the link to customize to the right of the network type - and on the next screen, click on merge or delete network locations, you will / should be able to remove (don't know what fusion done or means) the network with the wrong name, EXCEPT that you can't remove it If it is being used (which is / was the problem I had).  When I unplugged the cable between the computer and the router, I was able to remove the network location (the one with the old name of network), I tried to get rid of.

Now for the confession.  All this has nothing to do with the name of the network - and most of the things in my original post is just smoke also.  I was going down the wrong path.  It turns out that with computers connected to a router, there is only one network involved and you can call it anything you like and it will work.  There is no selection of a network involved as in the case of a wireless network.

Network with wired computers name is determined lby network name "you enter" on the screen to customize network settings, the screen you get when you click Customize on the screen of the Network Center and sharing - and you can type in anything you want here.  I'd so go through all this.  I simply had to re - enter the network name on the screen to customize network settings, that is simply a name that you can use for your own reference.

  • Windows networking problem, validation of server certificates

    Hello everyone,

My school has a WiFi network that uses WPA-Enterprise Security and AES encryption; However, for some reason, in the settings PEAP, the box "Validate server certificate" must be unchecked (I have Windows 7). I also uncheck the box 'enable fast reconnect', just because that's what have checked all the mobile school (in XP), although I'm not really sure of what it is. For some reason, however, every time I wake up or start fresh, these two boxes uncheck themselves. Furthermore, I can't find a pattern, first, it will display the properties option when I right click on the name of the network, then it won't appear, then I try to connect and it will not but properties appears once again so I can recheck the boxes, so I have to log in several times. Another thing that confuses me is that it seems that, when demand information identification network appears in the middle of the screen and I connect, it won't work, but when it appears in the lower right corner, there is no. It's the strangest problem I saw, I see no reason for a box of credentials to appear in different places. I thought that everyone guess that, but all laptops to school work without problem. Any suggestions? If the fast reconnection be checked? Thanks for all the help,
    T
