NB100 recovery

Hello

I have a few questions about my NB100 recovery and would be very grateful for some advice.

The DVD software has initiated and unzipped the recovery image, but after removing the media (as shown) the machine has stayed "Please wait" for an hour or so, is that OK? I don't hear the hard drive to do anything, it seems that the system hung up?

Any help is appreciated, thanks

Wait a minute; I did not understand what exactly did you do?
You have operating system recovery DVD with external optical disk drive?

  • Could not overcome NB100 recovery cd or recovery boot option.

    Hello
I am a person of mainframe with some experience of windows, but I'm a Virgin Ubuntu/Linux.

I was Laura by a parent to see if I could sort a Toshiba NB100 11R with Ubuntu remix responsible. The touchpad stopped working.

I assumed it was a problem of driver, then found my way to the drivers. I couldn't go any further, it has been password protected. The members of the family didn't know the password or even that a password has been set.

They got the recovery disk and I got an external dvd drive, I decided to do a full restore.
    Recovery failed.

When I tried to start the NB100, I got an error GRUB 2.

I tried the disc of recovery again, this time I got error 20107, I can't find this documented anywhere.

I also managed to get a boot menu at some point, that gave me the option to boot Ubuntu, or recovery. I chose the option of recovery, the operation failed with "cannot open root device SDA2 or block unknown.

I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition and tried to start the NB100, the operation has failed with a multitude of read errors.

I rebooted with the Ubuntu 10.04 netbook, this time it worked. I chose the try Ubuntu option. Ubuntu is loaded.

It is where I am right now, I was able to load Ubuntu from the DVD player. The NB100 hard drive seems to be ok. The touchpad works. I can't get it from the dvd player or the boot recovery option.

As I said I am a Virgin to Ubuntu, I don't know what to do from here.

What I want to do is recover as long as the plant, I always get error 20107 when I try to use the recovery disk.

    Can anyone help?

    Concerning
    Paul

Well... It seems that the recovery files related to Ubuntu in the 'file system' are damaged. And the grub program is severely damaged. Error 20107 means that recovery is no longer can be launched. That the error happened for me before, but when I tried to recover my database MySQL. I don't know how is this related.

In any case, since you can access partitions of the Live CD, if I were you, you can get an external hard drive and backup all data on this disc. And install a new version of the Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 you downloaded. You can install favorites when you start from the DVD of 'Install Ubuntu Netbook Edition'. When it comes to partitioning, choose erase entire hard drive. Who will install a new system with new GRUB loader as well but erase all data on the disk hard netbook. From this point, you can start the recovery from the recovery disc. I know it's a long way. But to be sure that the problem is from the recovery CD or the system itself.

But a question, your NB100 comes with a recovery of Ubuntu disk? Computers laptop Toshiba always have problems with Linux based operating systems: S

If you need more information, I'm here. I have worked with Linux systems for about 2 years but not as much as Windows ofc.

    Hello
I am trying to re - install Windows Xp on my laptop using the recovery disk, but I have a few questions.
I have a NB100 without a hard drive, so I created a bootable USB when I copied the recovery with a specific program disk.
I put the USB to be the first to be started at the launch, but when the recovery program starts I have this error:

"Stenv the file X:\Setenv.ini or X:\tools\Setenv.ini not found!

I tried to change the "SATA controller" Mode in the BIOS temporarily to "Compatibility" for the o recovery process by reading this forum but nothing.
    Could someone help me please?

    P.S.:sorry for my bad English = P

    > I have a NB100 without a hard drive, so I created a bootable USB when I copied the disc of recovery with a specific program.
Can you please tell us what program you used?
I put t have this model laptop but the installation of recovery should be possible with external optical drive USB.
CANY or get this disc and install image recovery using recovery DVDs?

I mean it would be simpler for the installation of recovery. With the USB probably does not work f is not done with the Toshiba Recovery creator.

I suspect the defective recovery disc? and a new a £29.99? But the laptop is under warranty but they told me to do.

My daughter has an Asus 904HD and once she had a problem... She doesn't have poor support to go and do it yourself... Asus has sent a letter of selection very fast-confirmed by return text-fixed-delivered confirmed drop out of text within 5 days!

    > I suspect defective recovery disc? and a new a £29.99? But the laptop is under warranty but they told me to do.

    I doubt s a defective recovery disc.
Error message: missing or corrupted: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys could be caused by hardware or other component defective HARD drive.
In your case, I recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP for the verification of the material with the new installation of the OS. The laptop is under warranty (as you suggest in the display above) and so everything should be done for free because it s covered by the warranty

    Good bye

  • NB100 - Recovery vs iso from usb DVD

    Hello!

I bought Toshiba NB100 with pre-installed XP Home Edition and now I want to reinstall it using Toshiba Recovery DVD I got with the netbook.
The problem is that I have no DVD player in this laptop and I don't want to buy a scanner of the Clerkship - here's what I did to start an iso image of this dvd from USB:

    1. first of all, I did an iso image of the recovery DVD Toshiba using UltraISO app (and called it TOSHIBA.iso) - I checked the image in one of the virtual machines: all went well so I think the image is ok
    2. I used GRUB4DOS app to make my folder of grldr bootable, copied to usb stick to the root of my USB catalogue, created from images of boot/path/and copied it my TOSHIBA.iso image and created the menu.lst looking like this:

    TOSHIBA recovery DVD title
    find--set-root /boot/images/TOSHIBA.iso
    map - mem /boot/images/TOSHIBA.iso (hd32)
    map - hook
    chainloader (hd32)
    rootnoverify (hd32)

The menu.lst file has been placed in the catalogue of the root of the USB.

3 then I rebooted netbook, changing the order of startup in the BIOS and GRUB was loaded with option of TOSHIBA Recovery DVD - but when I chose him, after the ISO is loaded into memory, I get GRUB error 19 with the message "can not mount selected partition".

I would be very grateful if you could tell me what I'm doing wrong.
    Kind regards
    Artur

Hey Artur thank you very much

  • How recovery a NB100

I can not access the a nb100 recovery partition. Is this one?
I tried holding SHIFT 0 or tab 0 on startup but it fails.
    Thanks for your help.

    Fred

    Hi Fred,.

I don't know because I repartitioned my NB some time ago, but I don't remember that there was any recovery partition.

You must use the recovery CD with an external USB CD drive or create a bootable USB key. This should be explained on the recovery CD.

  • NB100 - How can I recovery it?

    Sorry for my English

My nb100 early freeze after a vitit on a strange site. Virus undetected, but I want to recovery but have not now how. There is a recovery partition or I need a recovery cd?
When the boot system say press f12 to start marketing is it useful for this?

    Plese help me!

    Hello

You can easily retrieve the device:
You must use the Toshiba Recovery disk when you connect an external ODD (optical disc).

-connect a CD/DVD USB drive to the USB port
    -Insert the recovery disk
-Turn on the computer and press F12
    -in the menu select CDROM
-wait until the system is responsible to recover disk and follow the instructions on the screen.

If you have not created the recovery disc, proceed like this!
Otherwise you can order it here:

  • NB100-125 - I can copy recovery USB drive?

    Hello world!

First of all, sorry for my bad English.

I have a Toshiba NB100-125 that came with installed perfect Windows XP Home Edition. All good, but I decided to install Windows 7 on it.
OK, he ran on this subject, but I think it was a little heavier than XP, so I decided to go back to XP...

    And here's the interesting part:
I've not yet seen an external CD/DVD, so I won t be able to do with the recovery disk.
I tried to copy the files from the recovery on a USB flash drive disk, but it didn t started from it :(
Tried about 10 different methods and nothing worked, didn t want to boot from the flash...

Please help me, I can t find an external CD/DVD and I want to reinstall XP using the original recovery disk that came with it

    :(

    Hello

In my opinion, this will not work.
Of course, you can boot from a USB key, but I think that you can not copy the simple of a disc of Windows XP on USB flash drive and then boot from it

    But you can do this:
You can create a USB bootable using BartPE or WinPE flash drive.
Then you could start the NB100 using the USB flash drive.
Then copy file i386 disk Win XP on the HARD drive.
Finally, navigate to the i386 folder and start the installation of Windows XP by using the winnt.exe command

    See you soon

  • NB100-12 a - where to find the instructions of recovery?

I would like to know how I can recover my computer when I first bought it? The instructions that appear on this site are not for XP I do something wrong?

Also how I put my user name and password for the system, I don't know how to enter this section on my computer that the user name and password have never been and I'm scared, I might need to use in recovery

    Thanks for any help

    Hi alleycat72,

The exact description of recovery can be found in your user manual, * Chapter 3 to start the system recovery options *.

To restore the original settings, connect an external CD/DVD drive to the USB port. Then, insert the Toshiba recovery disc and the start-up of this environment. Then follow the instructions on the screen, everything that s! :)

  • Starting with Ubuntu Remix on Toshiba NB100 problems

Today, I tried to use the Update Manager to install several updates.

    During installation, the device froze.
Now start only takes me to the start page of Ubuntu with the logo and a progress bar is empty.

If I go to the Terminal, I have the following script
    BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3 - 5 Ubuntu12) shell (ash) integrated
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
    (initramfs)

I have no idea how to proceed. Is there a command that I can use for commissioning successfully or do I need to use the recovery CD?

    I'm a newbie to Linux.

    Thank you.
    David Lowe

    Hello

I think that you should just grab the laptop because it's the easiest way to solve this problem starting Ubuntu.
Other workarounds would be too difficult and would take as long as a simple recovery.

Recovery if the NB100. The procedure should t take long.

    Check it out!

    Cheers mate

  • NB100 - failure and how to do a restore of the system startup?

I tried to do an update on my Toshiba NB100 11R (less than a month) and it failed, and now I can't start.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Linux-based systems. Tried to boot from the CD (provided) with an external USB, disk drive and can not find anywhere to make a record of rollback/beginning of restore boot from, and I'm now stuck with a dead machine.

Any suggestions gratefully received! Thank you, Bill

When you turn on, press F12 repeatedly to access the boot menu - from there, you should be able to choose to boot from the recovery CD (not sure in your case if it counts as a CD or a USB device - trial and error I guess!).

  • No sticker with the license number Windows XP for Toshiba NB100

I lost the sticker with the license number Windows XP for Toshiba NB100. I have an invoice.
How can I recover the license number?

Licensed refused to support this topic.

    Hello

You can't get the license number.
First the sticker on the bottom of the unit has been a serial OEM key. This key cannot be used and would not work under Win XP installed system costs.

The point is that Toshiba image which was preinstalled on this laptop has already been activated, which means that this key has been useless.

I assume that you have not created a disk recovery Toshiba (or flash USB stick) in the past? Right?
These records would be reinstall the image of Toshiba containing the active Win XP system.

Well, usually it of possible to order this disc [here | http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx] but I think that would be more because of the age of the laptop.

Solution: you have to buy Win XP with valid serial key.
