network problem between windows 7 for XP computers

I have a new computer running Windows 7 gateway and I try my old XP in network computer.  I used the same name of working group on both computers, but I can't access the files from the old to the new.  The store said it's a problem of network address translation, but offers no solution.  My skills are limited, so I need a step by step solution.

I have a router Linksys WRT54 plugged directly to the desktop via ethernet and my laptop has an excellent signal but I can't access programs or the printer with it. • Network connection between Windows 7 Pro and Windows XP Pro wireless

    Nice day.

I am trying to connect to a Windows XP pro to a home wireless network, hosted by a pc Windows 7 Pro. I can see all the other PCs on the XP pc but cannot get them to connect. When I click the icon for the Windows 7 pc and try to log in (open) he asks a user name and password but I don't know what is the user name. I guess the password is generated by the computer windows 7, when I set up the homegroup. Would you please advise me on what to do to make this work. Thank you.

    Hi ArnBas,

Looks like you are facing a problem with network computers. I came to find this documentation for you who speaks the networking of the various versions of the computers.

Just through the same thing and check if everything is fine with the settings. Also, take a look at this very useful information.

You cannot use your XP/driver's license drive to install on 2 computers.

A single license is a single Installation.

You will need to buy another drive XP/Licence either online: newegg, amazon or try to repair your computer local store to buy it.

  • Problems with Windows install for Win 7

Is there any help out there for Windows Installer for Windows 7?

Mine has stopped working and I can't make it work (I watched some of the fixes recommended by various websites, but they do not seem to work for me).  This problem prevents me from installing programs on my PC - Adobe, for example.

I run 32-bit Home Premium version of Winodws 7.

If I can't get the installer works, does anyone know a link to allow me to download and reinstall (I can't find it either!)

    Thank you very much!

    Ash

Try to run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility:

The Windows Installer Cleanup utility - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555175

    If the problem persists:

    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any breach of integrity

    Restart your system

    If the problem persist:

    1. Insert the DVD of Windows 7
    2. restart your computer
    3. When asked if you want to boot from your DVD player, do it.
    4. Select your language, click Next.

  • Problem with Windows 8 for Windows 7 easy transfer

I am working on a dell ships with windows xps machine 8 and belongs to the University. The machine has been used for about a month and the decision was made to use the operating system major University. After you use windows easy transfer to save the contents of this machine on an external hard drive, I changed my OS to windows 7 Enterprise, which takes care of the University. Now I'm trying to transfer the data to the machine and I get the error Windows Easy transfer could not open the file.  Windows 7 and 8 are the two 64-bit.

Thank you, I posted this question in the Microsoft Technet forum. To save time for others with this same problem, I was told "Microsoft Easy transfer is not backward compatible from windows 8 for windows 7. The solution is to transfer files manually before you change the operating systems and in my case for transfer to a window machine 8 and then manually transfer the files on the windows machine 7.

  • vCenter 5.1 - network problem between the host computers

    vCenter 5.1

    (2) the hosts running esxi 5.1

I have VM in a single dvSwitch and dvPortGroup on two hosts - VM total 5.

This is where it gets weird:

-all VM on host1 can ping/browse all VM on host2

-VM on host2 can ping/browse all * EXCEPT ONE * VM on host1.

-All virtual machines can ping Bridge and beyond

    Otherwise said - VM1 on host 1 may VM3 and VM2 host2 ping, but VM3 and VM2 cannot ping VM1.

No firewall or anything like that in the guests, because VM4 on host1 * CAN * ping VM1.

Looks like an arp or vNetwork question.

    Thoughts, known problems?

    Found!

I got 2 ports not tagged in the VLAN for switch problems.

While everything went on-site in the configurations, hard links to the switch are the root cause.

Thanks for your comments - he has led me on the way to finally discover the question.

  • Network problem between the host computers

I am in the process of upgrading all my ESXi hosts and I came across a strange problem that I didn't know.  I have 2 guests (two ESXi) and I have a few VM I can't ping when I migrate from one to the other.  This virtual switch has 30 virtual machines running on it and I have two that will not work on a single host.  I run a constant ping and as soon as I migrate to a host I lose my connection ping.  All other virtual machines are still running and very well.  I'm quite puzzled why.  Someone has an idea?  Thank you

Host2 - ESXi - the virtual machine in question work on this one

Host4 - ESXi - the virtual machine in question do not work on the work of this one, but all the other fine vm.

Remove the network adapters on the operating system. UN install VMware tools. Remove the network card settings of the virtual machine. Restart the operating system. Reinstall the VMware tools. Add network adapters on the virtual machine. New analysis of the material changes. Re add parameters, etc.

  • Network problem between the machines Win XP and Win 7

I have 2 machines, a desktop and a laptop.  The office is currently running Windows 7 Pro (installed on 2010-01-01) and the laptop is running Win XP Pro.

The desktop (Win 7) can see the laptop (XP) on the network and can access the shared folders.

However, the reverse is not true.  The laptop can detect the office as a computer on the network.  I can double click the icon and see the files of office that are shared.  But when I try to access the content of the files, I get a message that says I don't have permissions and contact the system administrator.

I also have a problem with the shared printer (connected to desktop Win 7).  Before the upgrade both machines can print, after the upgrade, the laptop (Win XP) stopped printing.  I installed the XP drivers for the printer (using the functionality of additional drivers) on Win 7, deleted the printer on the XP computer connection and he still added.  The XP machine was able to find the printer on the network, but when I try to print, I get an arror message saying that "(l'imprimante peut être désactivé, pas branché ou les pilotes ne sont pas installés)."

I think that the two problems are related, but I can't understand where is the problem.  Print and file sharing is 'on' on both computers, the firewall is configured to allow printing the file and shares, folders are set to 'share', with "everyone" under permissions and both machines have the same network name.

Any ideas? Am I missing something?  Is it possible to reset all default values so I can set up the network again from scratch?

    Thanks in advance a lot.

Probably, you have a misconfigured firewall and/or do not have matching accounts/passwords user on both machines.
Here are the steps of general network troubleshooting. Just cannot apply to your situation, so just take the bits that are. It may seem daunting, but if you follow the steps in the links and suggestions below calmly and consistently, you will have no difficulty to implement your sharing.

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, turning on window file sharing and printer as the above will take care of that for you. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

XP - set up Windows to automatically connect (MVP Ramesh) - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

    D. Si one or more of the computers on your network are XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. In Windows 7 I usually share the Desktop of the user and the Public directory.

    F. you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a file between machines), if you want to share a printer connected locally to one of your computers, share of this machine. Then go to the printer mftr Web site. and download the latest drivers for the correct system. Install them on the target machines. The printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this isn't the case, install the drivers and then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases, printers must be installed as local printers, but it is outside this response. • Problem between Windows XP Home and Windows 7 Starter of file sharing

Hello, I have a problem with file sharing: my desktop computer running Windows XP Home Edition and my netbook runs Windows 7 Starter Edition.

On Windows XP, I shared a folder: Win 7 is able to open the directory and the files in the list, but there is no way I can open any file in the folder XP, nor that I can transfer the any of these files to my netbook.
All I get is an error "access denied."

The XP Workgroup is the same as the 7 home network, and the users have all the privileges on both computers.

Can you help me to sort out what is happening, please?
    Thank you.
    B.

As a first step, you have XP Home, which means that the 'Simple file sharing' is applied on this machine.  In addition, this means that any network connection on your XP Home of any another machine machine is forced to authenticate you as a user 'Guest', regardless of what a privilege that may be the real user.  In from here, it would seem that the 'Guest' user doesn't have privilege for the files or folders that you share.  To resolve this problem, you must change the access permissions to these files.

If you drag (move) files on your computer in your share folder, the origin on the file permissions will be maintained.  On the contrary, I would say that you copy the file to the shared folder by dragging with the right button of the mouse and select 'Copy' instead of 'move '.  A copied file will end with permissions for the destination folder that will be generally more suitable for sharing.

To the files and folders that are already in this folder, to change permissions, you must Access the 'Security' tab under the Properties screen.  In XP Home, this is possible if you log in as administrator in "safe" mode  To start your computer in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 during the startup key key), connect you as an administrator user, navigate to the file or the folder with problems of access, right-click on it, select 'Properties', select the 'Security' tab and set security such as 'everyone' (or 'guest') has the privilege of access you want.

  • "No access to the network" problem in Windows 7 and error message "your computer seems to be correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS SERVER) is not responding."

Hello, I have a desktop PC and a laptop (DELL Inspiron N-4050).
I have problem with my internet connection cable which is working fine on my PC, but does not not on my laptop giving an error "no access to the network.

When I troubleshoot it says "your computer seems to be correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS SERVER) is not responding."
I said to many technicians of microsoft online response, but they could not solve my problem and said this is my DNS problem and advised me to contact my Internet service provider. Guess it's because of my internet so why it works on my PC not on laptop?

Yesterday, my ethernet cable pulled out my cell phone and I couldn't connect to the internet more. But on my desktop PC, it works perfectly fine. (I do not use wifi, if this information is also required) I have studied several threads with similar situations, and I have tried different methods to solve the problem to no avail. I did a system restore, but I'm having no luck. Also, I did not of the latest changes with my anti virus software and my LAN card drivers look to date.

When I remove my cable from the laptop and again connect my cable then it works but only after the PC sat for awhile.
1.I did flush DNS by typing "ipconfig/flushdns" in the command prompt.
    2. my IP address, DNS, subnet mask etc are set to automatic.
3.I also added physical address taken from command line giving "ipconfig/all". for the properties of the network driver settings.
4.I ' installed the drivers to date of 2014 on my laptop.
5.I did a lot of searching the web, but they do not solve my problem.

Please help me to solve it.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thank you.

    Hi all

I had this problem and I solved it.

    The solution is:

    1. go into Device Manager.

    2. click on view and then on "see the hidden devices.

    3. go down the list of devices and expand the "network devices".

    4. find an adapter with the name "Microsoft Hosted virtual network card" and then right-click on it.

    5. Select activate

    6. This will allow the AdHoc created the connection, it must appear in the network connections in the network and sharing Center, if the connection to the ad hoc network does not appear then open the elevated command prompt and apply this command "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" without the quotes.

    7. After this, the connection should appear.
