New tab now a grid

Another change curious v29: when I open a new tab, I see a grid of 3 by 3 rectangles slightly dotted. There isn't a downside, I guess, but what is everything?

You can set a different page as the topic: newtab page if you do not want to see the grid that show of recently visited sites.

You can set this page through the pref browser.newtab.url on the topic: config page.

  • Yahoo appears when I press the new tab now and continues to do so even if I change it back

I tried the subject: config and the removal of Yahoo / change in about: newtab - it works, but in about 30 minutes, it is for Yahoo. I checked add-ins and extensions, and the only thing I'm running is Norton. I even tried to go back to the original version of Firefox, in case Yahoo has uploaded a new modified version, and that seems to work, yesterday. But today, when I clicked on the new tab - Yahoo back again. Nothing to do, it seems made a difference - it's worse than a virus, as it seems to keep regenerating itself. Can anyone help please?

I have "think THAT"I could find a resolution. I included here for info to others.
Went to the control panel in Windows
    Choose to uninstall a program
Clicking the column installed on everything in date order.
Noticed that at the same time I installed another piece of software a 2nd piece has been installed without my permission. It was called Hub a lot of results.
Selected many results Hub and uninstalled.
To do this, I noticed that it closed Firefox.
After uninstalling, I restarted the PC, just in case he left something in memory
Then once it restarts again, I uninstalled Firefox (tbh, I probably didn't need to do that, but wasn't any risk)
Rebooted again (probably no need to do)
Once the PC itself started, I installed a version of Firefox.

Now, fingers crossed, it worked. If it has, I'll come back here tomorrow and this will mark as resolved.

  • bookmarklet lendle previously opened in a new tab, now it does not work. How can I force it open in a new tab again?

Previously, when I clicked on the bookmarklet lendle fx would go me to a new tab and open the appropriate lendle page. I liked it. FX now opens the lendle page in the same tab. How can I force it to open it in a new tab?

-J' have the add-on open all bookmarks in a new tab.

-It worked before I installed the module TMP (Tab Mix Plus) and it opened in a new page with TMP installed too. I have now deleted the Add on TMP due to a decline in big performance on this module. TMP is a Devourer of cpu and memory.

-bookmarklet lendle has this code under bookmark properties

    javascript:var array=document.URL.match(/amazon\.(.*?)\/.*?\/.*?\/(.{10})/);if(array==null){alert('This bookmarket works on Amazon.com Kindle book pages, and redirects you to the same book\'s page on Lendle. Please visit a Kindle book page on Amazon.com and then click this bookmarklet.');}else{var x=window.open('http://www.lendle.me/books/detail/'+array[2]);x.focus();}

-J' checked my answer on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1060711configuration settings. My config is:

       browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external -1
       browser.link.open_newwindow 3

    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/questions/1060711

He has this pref to override the behavior to open a link in an external application.

       browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external

If this pref is the default-1 browser.link.open_newwindow is used.

The meaning of the value of the browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external is the same from browser.link.open_newwindow

       1:current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;

       http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow

Those setting means that you redirect window.open() all calls to the current tab.

You must set the browser.link.open_newwindow 3 to open links in a new tab.

I am using Windows XP PRO 32-BIT... I read (and checked) all options but still can't find my last session of navigation of yesterday. I opened a new tab in 'My Favorites', only one tab open, so now, this tab is my "last session"...
What can I do now, please? For my research, some I might be able to remember, some are my favorites, but can't always remember the names to find them again, I have a lot of tabs open!
I have a lot of files bookmarked...
Previously I always managed to restore by clicking the Session Manager to restore the last session, but the button seems to have disappeared. Please, I'm old and need of (detailed) easy step by step instructions!
I just remembered I have some work early this morning, it worked well then. I went to make breakfast. When I came back, the computer was disconnected and restarted. But I have no idea why.
Maybe something happened? I cannot now get this morning session or session of yesterday, with all the tabs I had open for research...
    Thanks in advance...

The user.js file is not there by default.
It is present than if you or other software had created, so if you can't find it, then it's OK.
Note that Windows hides file .js extension, probably, you see only a user with the type of JScript file.

  • Open a link in a new tab

Instead of opening a link in a new tab, now when I click on a link, a new window opens. How can I stop this and put in place the system to open links in a new tab instead?

The checkbox in the Options page does not work? In case it was not clearly article that scribe link, it's here:

"3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Options > general

Check the box "Open new windows in a new tab instead of this"

Who will take care of most of the links that target a new window. If the site uses a script to remove the features of the window or specify the size of the window, you must change a hidden parameter also divert these windows on one leg, but please try the regular setting first and see if that fixes it.

    Hello

With the last update of Firefox, the number of tiles is now determined on the size of the screen - if zoom you or enlarge the window, you can have several tiles appear.

If you want to set a fixed number of tiles, I believe you can do it with the following extensions:

You can also see jscher2000's Solution here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1025414
It requires the add-on from the elegant but will decrease automatically the tiles on the page:

  • Can I get rid of the search bar in the tab "new tab"?

Title pretty much sums up it. Since the last update when I open a new tab now is a search bar, I have one in my toolbars so it is not necessary. So is there a way I can remove it?

    Install Stylish - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/

Then install this UserStyle - https://userstyles.org/styles/103765/fx-31-about-newtab-hide-the-search-bar

  • Why can I not get a new tab?

I used to be able to get new tabs, now it does not work.

We have seen reports on an extension of community toolbar causing this problem of not being able to open a new tab.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

    • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe
  • 'Open in a new page' and 'open in a new tab' has been two-way?

I'll keep new pages instead of new tabs open.
The two functions of right click were bidirectional and is it possible to swop their return?

Yes, they were exchanged. Open in a new tab now first is (formerly second) and open it in a new window is now second (formerly first).

Now when I tap on: newtab in the awesome bar I get a page called subject: topic... and I don't want that. How can I get my pinned sites on my new tab page?

Hello. I installed the latest update of Firefox and when I start a new tab page displays not now my google input line. I use Windows 10. Until the recent update (v4.1.01) each time I started a new tab the new page would show the google search entry line which is my default. Can help you to restore this feature? TKS

Hi, 41 of Firefox, you must use the add-on tab override (browser.newtab.url replacement), to make changes to the page tab.

Once installed, open the Add-ons (Ctrl + Shift + A) Manager > Extensions, and then look for the new tab override and click Options to set your preference.

Notice, if you want only the new tab to be the same as your home page, you can use the Add on new tab homepage instead.

You will then need to restart Firefox for all changes to take effect.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

You can zoom the subject: newtab page to resize tiles and tiles most enter on the page.

  • Yahoo Search bar now appears on my new tabs Firefox pages

Before you answer that, I ALREADY deleted the Yahoo option toolbar already in TOOLS > OPTIONS > SEARCH box. In both upper search bar, I removed all evidence of Yahoo. Is not on this part. This is the new page/new tab coming with my 'top sites' mosaic. He changed a few days ago and I don't know why. I don't think THAT I have updated to any software, but if I did, it would have been Adobe Flash or Adobe Acrobat/Reader. When the search bar appears on the tiles, now it is YAHOO. I hate Yahoo and use Opera or Chrome, if I can't solve this problem. Someone help me find an answer. I refuse to be forced to use a search engine that does not support.

Thank you... In fact, I had an another "fix"... my computer crashed, so I had to get a new hard drive, etc. What I've been able to find out, however, even if all the settings that you have in your answer were what I had been doing before I posted, I discovered that a program to rip the DVD I bought recently had all these toolbars wicked as automatic installation with the express install option. I found those today and not controlled before screwing the system. It's a real shame when people stir this crap in the paid software programs and make sure you can not escape or uninstall them.

  • Use Firefox for many years now, I am forced to use Yahoo on new tabs. Goodbye Hello Chrome firefox!

After updating Firefox, I am forced to use Yahoo when I open new tabs. Every time I change my Google search engine it changes it back to Yahoo. I found solutions for reset keyword.urI but guess it will not default to google as it was because of Firefox new partnership. I won't say what I feel now until this message and see if I'm more react.

Yes, your first reaction is certainly understandable - such behaviour would be of course against all that firefox is the abbreviation of (initially 'user choice').

Since these programs unwanted kind of shit often come in bulk, I also recommend you run a full scan of your system with different free security tools such as malwarebytes and adwcleaner - those who are specialized in the detection of the adware and browser hijackers.
