No AHCI in the BIOS pavilion g6 option

I was wondering if AHCI was enabled by default, because there is no option to enable/disable in the BIOS. My laptop is a hp pavilion 1d46x with BIOS F.46 g6.

Thank you

Oliver

Hi, Oliver:

Yes, AHCI is defined by default in most, if not all, of recent years HP consumer notebooks.

You will find only the possibility of changing the mode of SATA device on HP business laptops.

    Hello

Usually in the BIOS, there is an option called SATA controller mode. You can choose between AHCI and Compatible mode.

But I believe that not all motherboards and BIOS version contain such an option, so probably your computer doesn t offer such an option.

  • Cannot find the option to enable the AHCI in the Bios Veriton X 275 settings.

    Hello

I just installed a Samsung SSD, but could not find the option to enable the AHCI in the bios Veriton x 275 (small form factor desktop). Cuurently boot OK IDE but AHCI is supposed to be superior to the SSD.

    Help appreciated

As you have noticed, there is no AHCI in the BIOS, only RAID and IDE.

  • Tecra A9 - compatibility/AHCI in the BIOS mode

The Toshiba Tecra A9 seems to have a serious lack of implementation of the BIOS: it has an Intel ICH8 - M - SATA controller capable of running in Intels so-called "handset Mode" that allows it to act as a controller SATA AHCI, a normal IDE controller or mix the two for various channels.
The BIOS allows to adjust it to the "compatibility" - mode that seems to work correctly by running in the IDE for all channels mode, but the mode "AHCI" seems to be set up wrongly. AHCI is a standard for SATA devices that is widely used and the Tecra A9 defines only the hard disk to use SATA AHCI - optical drive CD/DVD-ROM rest in IDE mode which leads to conflicts of pilots as only one driver can access the controller in DMA mode - when the value of both SATA and IDE modes, two drivers are needed for one physical chip.
'AHCI' in the BIOS must activate the peripheral subject connected to the controller is running in SATA AHCI mode, but as I already said, it is not. Only the hard drive will be displayed as SATA device.

For me, this looks like a defect in the BIOS that needs to be repaired.

    Best regards

    Hello

I think that it s perhaps a default, but you done already encountered problems with the execution of the "compatibility mode" where the CD/DVD drive (IDE ;)) works in "IDE mode"?

Do you have a few mistakes or something similar? If so, then it s probably REALLY a bug, but if not, maybe this 'combined mode' (I know what you´re talking about my old 875P Chipset and my ICH5 have the same thing) works correctly.
In my machine (desktop computer with a DFI Lanparty 875P and northwood at 3 Ghz) runs in the "handset mode" so that everything works to make it compatible in "IDE" mode But I Don t a loss of performance.
It s not as fast when I drive in pure SATA mode, but then my DVD won't work.

So, if you have problems with the machine then I agree, otherwise "it s not a bug, it s a feature" ;)

    Welcome them

  • I forgot to change the IDE to AHCI in the BIOS when installing programs in Windows 8

Just installed Windows 8 with a new HD SSD. I forgot to AHCI in the BIOS before installing all my programs. I remembered and set the BIOS to AHCI but Windows 8 will not start. I don't want to do a fresh install. I tried to play with the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci

I set the start value data to 0

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pciide

I set the start value data to 0

Rebooted and set the BIOS to AHCI Windows is not loading.

    Can anyone help?

There is a Fixit for Windows 7. It can now work with Windows 8.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/922976?WA=wsignin1.0

You can try this alternative. I don't know if it will work.

    Above all, back up everything.

  • G9 - 791 tried to activate the AHCI in the BIOS, killed for laptop

Since I've upgraded to a SSD, I tried to activate the AHCI in the BIOS mode, just like I did with my Alienware laptop.  After changing the setting and restart, I was unable to boot the system (it's ok), but also unable to get into the BIOS to change it back to the RAID.

Which led me to return the laptop to the place where I bought it and get a new, still under warranty.  Is there a reason any BIOS gets damaged when you change this setting?  I'd like to use the AHCI mode instead, but I can't afford another laptop brick.

I got it! I actually downloaded and installed the most recent Intel (14.8.XXX), and then changed RST 4 setting in my registry to reflect the changes of the AHCI. Restarted without enabling AHCI in the BIOS, to make the site everything was still good. Perfect. Return restarted to the BIOS and activated ONLY AHCI. Does not all other parameters. Rebooted (twice), and everything works!

  • No option AHCI in the BIOS. DVD SATA as IDE burner.

Hello, I am new to the forum and need advice, else why would I be here, no?

I have a desktop HP Pavilion a610n with the AMD Athlon 3000 + CPU. I upgraded from XP to Windows 7 Home Premium. I borrowed an IDE DVD drive to install the new system because the original HP drive stopped working.

After installation, I bought a new 24 X Multiformat DVD Writer (DVD 1270i HP) and connected on one of two SATA connectors on the motherboard (since both tried) and bought an adapter for the power supply connection (4-pin Molex to 15-pin SATA). Start the computer and the device has been installed and all seemed well until I put an audio CD in the drive and it just sat there with the ridiculous small icon rolling around. I tried a DVD in there then and it froze the computer.

I then went in the implementation to see if there was an option to switch from IDE to SATA AHCI, but there isn't. In the Device Manager DVD appears as an IDE drive I think I need some sort of update BIOS to enable SATA support. HP support has no new BIOS download for this computer on their download page. Only XP is listed as an operating system.  My only option is to return the drive and get an IDE model?

Sorry for the novel, but I tried to give a complete description of my attempts at resolution. Thanks for any advice you can give!

    Kernal Klink

    Kernal, welcome to the forum.

I checked the specifications of the product for an update of the BIOS. There is an update of the BIOS, but it is only for XP Home Media Center. The BIOS is dated 25/08/2005. It wouldn't fix all problems you encounter at this stage. You can try to reinstall XP and do the BIOS update, but as I said, it does not seem to fix all your problems.

I think that I return the drive and save your money for a new computer. You have nothing to lose and much to gain.

  • No AHCI in the BIOS in Satellite Pro A200

I just installed an ssd and would like to change the bios to ahci utility but it is not an area that I am able to do this. the computer is a Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 (psfa1a-003002).

I have to update the BIOS? Where can I get the update and how can I update?

As I know the BIOS update does not offer some additional options. Please check the settings of the BIOS again. In the BIOS options there SATA advanced option and there you can change between compatibility and AHCI mode.

I have it on my P200. It is almost identical machine but 17 and your model 15.

  • In the BIOS boot device options

    Hello

I want to use my USB to be bootable since my laptop Winxdows XP.  When I go to the BIOS to change the settings,

    the Boot Options available are:

    Startup CD-ROM (ENABLE)

    Boot disk (ENABLE)

    (DISABLE) internal network card boot

    BOOT ORDER

    USB disk on key

    USB floppy drive

    CD-ROM ATAPI CD/DVD drive

    Portable hard drive

    USB hard drive

    Network card

Please indicate which of these Boot Options should I 'ACTIVATE' and

that the boot ORDER should I choose to be at the top: -.

    1. If I want to boot from my USB key USB

    2. If I want to boot my Portable external hard drive

    3. If I want to boot from my CD/DVD Rom

    4. If I want to boot from my laptop

The "boot" of Word to say 'start' in language computer, right?

So if I chose to boot from my USB key, my laptop cannot start to load Windows XP because it normal would be more until I go back to the BIOS to change the setting?

Why cannot it not auto answer to the user's choice to start the Windows?

BTW, what does "Starting the internal network card" means?

    Please notify.

    Thank you

To see if you can boot from a USB key, you must go into your BIOS and look at the boot order.  If you see "USB stick" in the list, then you can probably - but it should be placed in the order before the drive hard to make it work.

If you want a boot disc/USB drive for repair purposes, I highly recommend the free Hirens Boot CD.  This CD comes with a bunch of diagnosis and repair integrated tools.  If you can't fix it with this CD, it cannot be fixed without having to reinstall Windows.  Of course, this is not Microsoft.

    Download Hirens: <> http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ >
Don't be fooled by the fake download links.  The correct link is a file .zip downstairs in a light green rectangle with a drive icon.

There are instructions to create a Bootable CD and bootable USB Thumbdrive:

  • Windows Vista does not start to change from IDE to AHCI in the BIOS

Hi, I spent a lot of time to look at this problem online. I can't find a lot of google search results and they seem to say enter REGEDIT and change the "msahci" start to 0 and even the 'pciide', or 'iaStorV' start parameters to 0. But this does not work for me. The loading Windows with the loading bar screen Green just continues to go wrong and never Windows startup. I have Windows Vista Home Basic Edition.

I saw someone in this forum with a similar problem but they have upgraded to Win7 on a new installation to fix the problem, they spend on AHCI RAID. I contacted Intel technical support and they said to try HP or the manufacturer of the motherboard. I contacted Intel because I installed a 520 Intel Solid State Drive series and wanted to know if they had a driver to get the benefit of the AHCI instead of the IDE. I know that a lot of people recommend a new installation of Windows, but I don't have a Windows cd with this computer (my computer is here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00835809 )

I tried to install this Microsoft fix too. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/922976

I wonder if there is an AHCI driver, can I install it or what I can do to get the job of AHCI?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

I suggested that you create disks because you said that the computer came with any one and you could not re - install Windows as suggested a possible solution. With these records, you can the recovery of the system back to a factory State. Since you want to install a SSD or change a BIOS setting, these are the changes which can damage the system and require the use of recovery disks.

If you want a Windows Vista 'clean' no HP Setup, please see Paul's response in this thread of the forum called "System Restore not working not not for HP Media Center Desktop PC. According to his instructions is expected to create a bootable Windows Vista installation disc. My only amendment to this method, is not to use the product key Microsoft Windows Vista on the COA on the side of your computer. Instead, I would like to "Save" the product key from factory OEM HP and HP OEM certificate using ' the Activation, backup and restore ' then 'restore' the certificate and the key to the new clean install of Vista. This will result in an installation clean factory activated that does not require Microsoft to activate. Be aware that the software HP added value will no longer be on your computer. If you want to use this software, you MUST create your personal HP recovery disks and copy the "SWSETUP" folder on your current installation of factory to an external support.

Re-install Windows Vista, as shown above with the SATA BIOS settings set on AHCI you like will work 100% of the time. It should also install to SSDs, where HP recovery discs are known to fail.

To my knowledge, the Satellite P300 series BIOS doesn t contain the ability to switch the AHCI compatible mode.

I don t think that even after updating the BIOS such option would be available in the BIOS.

I see on the first screenshot of the BIOS, the SSD drive is connected to the second controller.
I recommend you connect the SSD to the first controller (instead of the HARD disk).
Maybe then you could get better performance.

Just for the note: portable computers with a graphics card ATI supports the AMD chipset, and in this case the ATI graphics card driver contains the SATA driver files.

However, I guess the HARD disk controller specification allows the use of better performance of SSD drive.
