No sound on my Envy 17-3270NR

My audio just stopped working on my HP Envy 17-3270NR.  I tried everything and nothing makes his return. I checked the speakers in the Panel and it shows that they are working.  Shows OK.  I looked at the obvious things like the Sound Off button next to the dial of Beats Audio and that nothing is plugged into the plug headphones.  Other than these things, is there anything on the keyboard that turns off the sound?  No diagnosis, can I try?  I am at a loss.  I just hope this isn't something obvious.  I don't have the external speakers and nothing extraordinary.  I am running Windows 7 64 bit.  Thank you. Derek

Hi Derek,.

Try the following.

Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp56501-57000/sp56900.exe

One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  If you see a very similar entry for (or entry of IDT) IDT HD Audio , right click on the device and select uninstall - you should also get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.  If there is no input IDT, go just below.

When you are finished, download and reinstall the Chipset driver from the link below.

Chipset Driver - Windows 7.

When reinstalling, shut down the laptop.  Disconnect the adapter, then hold the power button / stop and button beats for 10 seconds.  Plug the power adapter.

Robinet tap away at the key esc that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, and then select f10 to open the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the default values (sometimes it's f9, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER.  Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.

Allow Windows to fully - charge it will automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete.  Then open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.  'Speakers and headphones' left click once to highlight, and then click the Set Default button - check if you now audio.

Kind regards

  • 32 envy: no sound on HP Envy 32 via mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable on Mac mini

I recently bought a HP Envy 32 monitor and hooked it up to my Mac mini using a mini DisplayPort (i.e. Thunderbolt) DisplayPort cable. The video works fine @ 2560 x 1440, but I have no sound. The output sound in references to system preferences "the selected device has no output settings" for the 32 envy. The sound works fine when I use a HDMI cable, but then, the resolution is limited to 1080 p. The Mac mini is a mid 2011 model, which is able to transfer the audio via DisplayPort, SAA as far as I know. Any suggestion on how to solve this problem?

Figured out how to get mini-displayport audio to work with the HP Monitor (I have a Macbook Air)

In addition to choosing the HP monitor HP ENVY 32 audio in the PREFERENCES SYSTEM-> SOUND->-> OUTPUT

An adjustment should also be made to the AUDIO and MIDI CONFIGURATION.  You can either do a search for it in the finder, or it is in APPLICATIONS-> UTILITIES-> setting up Audio and MIDI

    1. Open the app
    2. In the left menu, select DisplayPort
    3. Format of... Replace with 48000,0 Hz 2-channel 24-bit wide

Once changed, you should be playing audio from your monitor.

    Good luck.

Question: In the past months, my sound will go off randomly automatically.  If I close the lid and let the computer in to sleep mode or if I restart the computer, the sound comes back.  When the sound disappeared, the volume buttons on the keyboard, so to work with a lag and the mute on the keyboard does not work.  Try to use the sound test, or even navigate the tabs in the Properties section of speaker to accuse also considerably by the sound does not work.

I noticed other things: I was watching a youtube video when the sound came out, I left the chrome tab that I used for the video and the sound comes back a few seconds later.  He then disappeared a few seconds after I opened a new tab and returned to watch the video.  I had also the same thing happens with the help of a video editing software - quit the application, sound came back, returned to the software, sound went out after a few seconds.  I also had both sound back after going to the speaker properties - Advanced tab and switch format, by selecting the test button and clicking on OK when a message saying "the sound system is in use, taking the test can cause the application to fail" (or something similar).

I tried to use various utilities for troubleshooting when the problem occurs - the find and troubleshooting audio fix is no problem AND the device is listed as working properly in Device Manager.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers for the IDT HD Audio CODEC several times - no help.  In addition, the problem has been resolved not when I converted briefly to Windows (back to windows 8.1) 10.  In addition, I tried to use the other pilot of "High definition Audio Device" in place and place of the IDT CODEC, but the same problem happened - sound turns off randomly until I rebooted or put my computer to sleep.

I'm pretty computer - savy but I can't seem to understand what the problem is.  It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem or the sound would probably not come back so quickly or clearly as it does...

One last piece of information: I noticed that the first time that I reinstalled the Windows audio 24/06/2015 - and also several updates were installed on the 23 & 24 June - watching these updates to see if they are the cause of the problem.

My father had a speaker bluetooth for Christmas - I tried it out on my computer because it works completely independently of my sound card and it was working fine.

I bought one of my own for $30 at target - Jam Classic Wireless Speaker - and now I have wonderful sound.

Does not resolve the issue of the root, but the problem is solved!

I'm just upset that HP gave me the such a card its crappy that it only lasted 1 1/2 years before give me questions, just long enough to ensure that the warranty expires...

Thanks for the reply! What are you referring when you say "error in the download?

The following suggestion I have is to perform a refresh of Windows 8. This will clean the operating system without deleting all the files. However, if the computer comes with Windows 8, it will change that. It is perhaps the most useful part to update it. For more information on how to do this, please refer to this Microsoft Web site: refresh your PC to solve problems (Windows 8)

When this happens, one of the following events occur:

    1. the computer will return to WIndows 8 and the problem will be solved.

    2. the computer will return to WIndows 8 and the problem cannot be solved.

    3. the computer will remain WIndows 8.1 and the problem will be solved.

    4. the computer will remain WIndows 8.1 and the problem cannot be solved.

Please let me know what happens. Thank you!

  • A buzzing and crackling sound w / HP ENVY Sleekbook 4 Beats Audio

Product name: HP ENVY Sleekbook 4 PC
    Product number: C2K72UA #ABA
    64-bit Windows 8

I've had this laptop for only a month, and it was going well until a few weeks ago, when he started to make this hum whenever I listen to the music or watching youtube videos. He emits a hum sound and accuses the audio for a second.

The sound was rare at first, but then lately my laptop did the sound hum frequently to the point where I just put the audio mute.

I did the HP Support Assistant, and everything is up-to-date.

    I also reinstalled my driver.
    My audio drivers are:
High Denfinition Audio CODEC IDT (I reinstalled it)
    Intel(r) Audio display

I also hear the hum when I plug my headphones too.

This may sound weird and you would never think to make a link between a hum and a wifi card driver, but the original poster marked this resolved, and said the driver solved wireless installation. The post is linked below.

    http://goo.GL/FEXqp

Locate the driver for your card wifi here. You can find on which driver you need by pressing the Windows key + x simultaneously and selecting menu display the network adapters in Device Manager.

When I'm multitasking with two windows open at the same time both with sound, I noticed that the computer automatically decreases the sound of a program in the volume mixer. I can manually slide the volume up, but it keeps automatically adjust by itself. How can I change this?

    * Also, is there a way to disable the touchpad?

I use the hp envy 15-k073ca with touch screen in windows 8.1.

    Hello @RickyTarjaes,

I see that you encounter a problem with the sound on your laptop, if you use several applications that produce sounds. I will try to help you with this.

The rules you are expirencing is normal in the measurement of parameters. Some applications/programs that produce sounds can be set to "transcend" the other applications and programs. According to the current volume, this would lower the sound in another program. Usually see you in voice chat programs, where they will reduce the volume of another application.

In Windows this can be defined as. Below shows you how to disable in Windows.

    • In the menu start, look in the category parameters (Win + W) 'change the noise map settings.

    • On the Communications tab, change "when Windows detects communications activity' to do nothing.

Regarding specific applications, you should be able to find instrustions in all their support. I would recommend starting from that.

With respect to the touchpad, this can be disabled in two ways.

    1. double click on the upper left corner of the touch pad. This acts as a "switch".

2 disableing the driver of the touchpad in Device Manager.  To do this, go to the Device Manager, locate "mice and other pointing devices, click on the '+' to expand. You should see the driver listed here, right click on that and choose "disable". In this way, you will have the driver for later, but the touchpad should no longer be active.

I hope you're able to help.

Thanks for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Want to Phoenix 810 110eo: popping/static Sound on HP Envy Phoenix 810 110eo

I got in trouble for a long time now, with sound as a pop/static sound every once in a while, watching youtube videos or play video games, I googled the question several times, and the most common solution appears to be trying to update your BIOS and Driver sound

However, when I go to the Page of the driver and find the drivers for my PC, there is no such thing as an update of the BIOS, my running BIOS Version currently is v80.17 and from the end of 2014, which seems a little old for me, as well as the fact that I still have this problem when I bought the computer a year ago.

Anyone know what could be the solution to my problems sound? would it be dust in the computer? outdated drivers? I downloaded the latest sound driver, and yet, the problem seems to persist

    Hello @TheGreatFish,

    Thanks for the quick response!

Try these steps and let me know how it goes:

    1. Go to the Windows Device Manager > sound, video and game controllers section.
    2. In the audio device drivers list, find Tempo High Definition Audio Driver (IDT Original).
    3. Right-click and select disable. Down arrow on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: at this point, you will not be able to play music files.)
    4. Right click and select Update driver software.
    5. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
    6. Select Let me pick from a list of drivers for devices on my computer.
    7. You should see a window that says Select the driver to install for this hardware device. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, close the window and repeat steps 4, 5 and 6.
    8. In the scheme box, select Audio device high definition (this is the device driver audio substitute) and click Next.
    9. In the Update driver warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation with thehigh definition Audio Device display window. Click on Close.
    10. In the list of drivers of audio device in the section audio, video and game controllers, you will notice that the high definition Audio device now displays.
    11. When prompted to restart, click Yes

    I hope this helps.
