  I bought 11 HP notebook PC flow two weeks back. It comes preinstalled with Windows 8.1 and the sound and mute button on the keyboard has a light (Amber) which worked perfectly. After the upgrade to Windows 10, muted light was not lit. Is it a hardware failure or a problem with Windows? The mute button works fine, but the amber light is not brighter. The light caps lock lights up well.

  Please consult about it. If it's a hardware failure, then I can replace my laptop for a newer version. (I'm still in the warranty period).

  Try the following.

  Download IDT Audio Installer found on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

  IDT HD Audio Installer.

  One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

  When you are finished, download and reinstall the driver to Chipset found on the following link.

  When thie Chipset resettlement has completed, reboot the laptop and let Windows load completely-, it will automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete.  Then open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, restart the laptop again before checking the function of the button mute conduit.

  I have a HP Pavilion DV6 1030US laptop with Vista/64 bit.  Each time the orange mute light itself. I then download driver IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC, which arranges temporarily (for a few weeks or more), but then out of nowhere the orange indicator light comes back.  I keep re - download driver above, but it's kind of annoying to have to do this every week or two.  Any advice?   OK everyone I read some more and I think I've discovered how to solve the problem with the no sound:

  1 go to Control Panel

  2. go to the Device Manager

  3. go to sound, video and game controllers

  4 double-click the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

  5 go to the driver on top of the screen of the IDT

  6. click on revert to the previous version... Yes it removes the most recent update, but it worked for me

  7 after that is done go back return to the IDT and return to driver and click the button to update the driver... ... not to interrupt this leash to search and update

  recently installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my dv5 1209ax.

  AFAIK the FN + F11 mutes the sound from the laptop
