No WiFi after installation of XP SP3 on Portege M100

I have a used protégé M100, on which I recently did a clean install of Windows XP Pro (SP3).
Unfortunately, as a novice, I didn't save my drivers.

I've been on the Toshiba site and that you have downloaded everything for this model (M100 protégé Centrino), I printed the "content and the order of installation for windows XP" and load all the drivers at best in the suggested order.

However, some items were not available to download, or I did not understand the references.

I downloaded and installed the Atheros client utility and the customer, as well as Configfree utility aironet Cisco, but could find nothing to match the description "wireless driver".

Perhaps because of this, or not? customer utilities above and ConfigFree (connection doctor) as well as some other diagnostic software downloads tell me I have no installed... wireless LAN hardware but I know it's there, and I never got it out!

Can someone tell me what I can do?

Hi George

I think that you just have not installed the right driver WLan.

The Portege M100 was certainly equipped with a wireless network card internal minPCI and you should see it in the device under network card Manager. It should appear as an unknown device (if no driver has been installed) or a Wlan-Intel/Atheros/Toshiba/Cisco card.

Always it is that there are different models of the Portege M100 with different internal minPCI WLan cards and I think you used the incompatible driver.

Please check the single WLan drivers published on the page of the Toshiba driver and check if you allow your internal wireless network card.

In addition, you can use the Toshiba WLan portal to get the latest drivers for the Atheros/Intel cards.

Good bye

If they have been installed before Service Pack 2 has been applied, then you can now uninstall .

If they were installed after SP2 has been applied, then you can uninstall SP3 with all required reboots, uninstall the lot of them, restarting, reapply SP3 with all the required reboot.

Problems that I encountered so far for which I found online solutions:

    (1) ISO unrecognized - download corrupted through Chrome. full full download via Safari

    (2) no image available - key not recognized; installed without key (what is a problem?)

I can't boot into Windows 10 but I'm completely blocked because my USB 3.0 is not recognized and wireless networks is disabled.  Shows Device Manager there are problems with both but I can't install the drivers for the USB key or can I download the drivers!

I was never introduced to any screen, which indicates that Windows drivers have been installed.  I suspect that's the real question although I don't know what steps I missed.

I have tried to format the USB stick in various formats, including the formatting on a Windows PC.  No luck.  The only thing I saw that I had the chance to try this day uses a USB 2.0 but I don't have one of those lying around.

I don't know how to take screenshots of the dual boot screen, but when I hold down the option key and do the two choice, there is also the possibility to select the network.  My wireless network is recognized on this screen, but when I select it, the 'Lock' icon is locked and I can't enter my WPA2 key.  I thought that if I was able to connect to my network at this stage, it would be may be available when I start Windows.  It's probably unlikely because it seems that the drivers are not installed.

Really don't know what else to try after several days ago.  It would be nice if I could get just sort the drivers on this Windows partition...

On the side of OS X, download the drivers from the USB3 flash drive. Download Paragon NTFS for Mac from https://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/ test and install it from the side of OS X (you can use other software that has an equivalent function). This will provide a read-write access to the Windows partition. Copy the contents of the USB in a folder on the Windows partition and boot into Windows and run setup.exe from this location known to install the drivers.

    Remove test of Paragon Software.

  • Log on problem after installation of the sp3

Hi there forgive me if this is old news, but I just bought an old laptop for children. The seller has installed xp pro top with IE 8.

I installed the latest java, W. Media Player. I had a browse through updates and he said that auto updates can not be read if my system is up to date. So I thought that I should install SP3. Once this is done I did the reboot and start-up of the machine re I got the newspaper of the administrator on request of password. When I bought this machine and it works, he never requested a password and went directly to the screen, probably because it was only a single account. the seller told me that he had installed a hard drive cool and a new copy of XP pro. There is a sticker on the back of the machine activation key.

I tried many combinations of passwords, including the sellers name, leave blank and just pressing ENTER. tried Ctrl alt del all resulted in nothing.

I contacted the seller and he said that he never put a password and therefore cannot (or will not help) I looked on the web for some ideas, including starting in safe mode, but the info it says it will ask for a password, but I am. I am now locked out of my machine. Help, please. Thank you

If I bought a used computer, no matter who previously owned the
first thing I could do with it would be to reinstall the operating
system itself. You don't know how the computer has been maintained,
which has been improperly installed, what's missing, what virus and
There may be spyware, etc. I would not live with someone
other errors and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc. and I
would not recommend anyone else to do.

Your choice of course, but in my opinion, you're playing with fire if you
    do not reinstall Windows properly.

    Thanks for the reply.

You are welcome. Happy to help you.

To do a clean install, what I have to buy a new version or I can just a xp pro disc and reuse the key at the back of the machine, provided that they are ok.

If you have a product key on a sticker, it's an OEM version. You can
use the disc to a friend, if the sound is also OEM. Try to find a friend with the
    same brand of computer.

    BTW:
What driver package includes "tfncky.exe? Toshiba controls?

Thanks in advance for any information or advice for this problem!

    Best regards
    Andreas

    Hello

the problem was already discussed in another thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=18082

The last message was probably the solution for the whole of the case. The mentioned user that "TfncKy.exe" belongs to the Toshiba Hotkey utility that only needs to be removed and reinstalled for this problem.

In addition, it would be wise to check the registry with CCleaner for example before you reinstall the Hotkey utility.

  • Installation of XP/SP3 / requests sfc/scannow command

I have a genuine copy of XP SP3 installed on my computer (performed by a computer technician), but previously, I don't have an XP installation CD and I didn't know the details of the product key.

I managed to get the 25 product key - Belarc figure both Magical Jelly Bean (!) Detectors of key Windows gave me exactly the same code.

I also managed to get a XP SP2 installation CD authentic with COA + keys used - haven't seen any ones SP3 and Microsoft is no longer distribute a XP software. It says distribution only with a new PC - is this correct?

Will be a computer technician can reinstall XP SP3 using the this and updated - SP3 will still be available for download now that support has ended for XP?

In addition, you kindly confirm that this CD that will allow me to make the sfc/scannow command. ; When I tried to asked me repeatedly for the XP installation CD.

This CD SP2 / SP3 computer difference leaves me unsure.

A modern operating system would be better I know, but I'm not able to get a new computer at the moment.

Your CD of XP sp2 is an "OEM" version rather than a retail version, but if you have the correct key, it works perfectly.  The problem with OEM installations, is that they are linked to the computer on which they were first installed... then once installed, it cannot be installed on another computer (and replace the motherboard is considered as "another computer").

Service Pack 3 is available for download and will continue to be available in the foreseeable future.  If you have a new installation using the SP2 CD, download you the sp3 and install it manually (you must have sp3 before Windows Update will strive to give you the post-sp3 updates).

That said, it is easy to create an installation cd of sp3 by a process called "slipstreaming".  You can do it yourself, but any competent computer technology needs to know how to do it.  See http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/slipstreaming-windows-xp-to-create-bootable-cd/

You can even create an installation CD which includes sp3 as well as all the critical updates that came after sp3.  See http://xdot.tk/

There are a few caveats to keep in mind before installing sp3:

    Before installing sp3, read this article--> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717

If your PC is a HP Pavilion and Presario Media Center and has an AMD processor, this hotfix must be installed before installing sp3-->

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?CC=UK&LC=en&DLC=en&softwareitem=PV-60484-2

    Install SP3 for download--> http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=24

ignore the text which says that it is for network installations and also ignore the text informing Windows/Microsoft Update If a single update of a PC.

Regarding the use of sfc/scannow command which will require an installation CD is the same service pack that is installed on the computer, BUT using sfc/scannow almost certainly NOT help you in any difficulty that you are likely to encounter.  Despite the many Web sites that you can see who is advised to use this command, simply is not what people think than that, at least for XP.

  • [Solved] pc with xp home edition as the operating system does not start after installation of SP2 via automatic updates

Hello everyone. After formatting my hard drive I reinstalled windows xp edition sp1 family and then installed the latest version of windows update agent. I have the auto update set to download the updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed. Initially, he found 3 updates that I installed and rebooted. He concluded 58 updates. Again, I've installed and restarted. After that, we found ServicePack 2, I installed as well. But after the reboot, the pc does not start. What I get is the windows xp logo which discoloures after a few seconds and I don't see a bar moving from left to right. I left it like that for 3 hours, but nothing has changed. Also, it does not start in safe mode. I get a screen with red and green vertical lines in this case. Anyone know what's the problem? I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.

I was finally able to solve this problem. That's what I did. I reinstalled windows xp home and followed the same path (but his definition of the automatic updates notify me before downloading or installing updates) until the automatic updates found in the new service pack 2. This time that I did not choose to download it. Instead I downloaded from here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28 and then started in safe mode and installed. I don't know one that makes the difference but service pack 2 has been successfully installed this time and tha pc was able to start after installation. Before that, I also downloaded and installed the latest versions of 2 drivers through drivermax. I mention this in the case where he has also made a difference. After the service pack 2 installation and restart, automatic updates will be found a few others brought up-to-date, but after installation and reboot, it found no others. I had to visit update windows Internet explore and search for updates it and managed to find other updates and finally SP3.
