• HP15 ac179tx: none of the shortcut keys work

  I bought a computer laptop ac179tx HP15 that comes with freeDOS. I installed windows 10 and all the drivers that are given on the HP website. The shortcut keys for control of brightness, volume, etc. do not work even after you have installed all the drivers.   Basically, what happened is that I could not open a file, so I chose 'open with' and then chose internet explore now every time I try to open ANY program, my PC tries to open it with IE, and the program just closes. My computer also indicates that all the shortcuts are now ".lnk" files.

  It turns out that I was a fool... the keys work the way around opposes planned, so Fn + F4 does F4 and F4 the action closed.

  It actually makes much sense to point 8.1 of Windows, so thank you!

• No links or shortcut keys or click menu options right don't work to open anything.

  Since yesterday evening, I was not able to use THE link buttons or shortcut in dialog boxes.  After that I downloaded something I can't simply click on the file to open it, and I can't click on the button "OpenFolder" to open the folder. In Windows Explorer, I can not open anything by double click, right click and click Open, by right clicking and choosing an option open with, etc. Nothing. In addition, by clicking on URL links in emails don't open links. by clicking on the FTP links does not download files FTP.   Thanks for posting on the Microsoft Answers forum.  The first thing I would say is to perform a system restore to a day or two before the problem started.  Here are instructions and a link to the article on the restoration of the system: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

  To use system restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to Windows as an administrator.
  2. Click Start, point to programs, point to Accessories, point to System Toolsand then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
  3. On the homepage to the system restore , click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
  4. In the Select a Restore Point page, click the last system restore point from the list on this list, click a restore point , and then click Next.

     Note A system restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that system restore will make. Click OK.

  5. In the Confirm Restore Point selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
  6. Log the computer as an administrator. The full restore System Restore page appears.
  7. Click OK.

• Shortcuts do not work and open with box appears after the virus

• When I click on any shortcut, it comes up with the screen 'open with '.

  I had to restore my system to an earlier date and after I did I wasn't able to use the system shortcuts to do anything.  Once I got online, don't know exactly how it happened, I copied a URL and put it in a document, so I could use it to get online.  None of my shortcuts work.  I tried to use the restore of the system again, but it comes with the same screen that happens with everything - word, excel, - everything what is new.  If I want to open a new word document, I open an old and then create a new one.  This is what happens when I click on the shortcuts.  Also, my security program is not able to work because he has access to the internet and it may not.

• All the icons/shortcuts are white, dogeared 'pages '.

  None of my shortcuts no matter WHERE work. Well, as three of them are. The stuff is all still there... programs, music... etc. I just can't access.

  For example. I click on one. MP3 and it says: this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the set Associations control panel.

  But still somehow am able to open my browser because theres a link, which miraculously still works. All my icons to the taskbar to work... but none of the start menu, desktop, quick launch, etc.

  When I look at the table of file extensions, I see a prticular program indicated, and this program is the program that starts when I click any shortcut.  I see no way to change this so that when I click on Internet Explorer, for example, Internet Explorer sometimes instead of the wrong program.

  I had the same problem. I solved it by downloading http://www.creativelement.com/powertools/ and then running the program (from the directory, because none of my shortcuts working) "file Type doctor." When I chose ".lnk" in the list of extensions, he said in the Actions in the right click Menu:

• the shortcut for the external drive icons do not appear on the desktop

  Running Windows 7 Home Premium.  None of the shortcut icons of the program (on my external hard drive) appear on the desktop.  Default icons took their place and launch the correct programs when you click it.  I tried to change individual icons in the correct program ones, but that they would not.  They all used to be there!

  I tried to reboot several times but that has not changed anything.

  The only program added or deleated recently was free archiver B1.  I uninstalled immediately after installing and do not actually use it.

  How to bring back the icons.

  Two possibilities come to mind.   Now that the drive is recognized by Windows, has the problem of the icon "disappeared"? If the answer is still no, then I think you need to look at the program archive as a real possibility. The only way to know of course is to install the program again and look for a setting (try Configuration) where the program changes the icons of the programs.

  Perform a batterypull (remove the battery for about 30 seconds and then put the new one) and check if it works after that.

  I found a solution (in fact quite obvious):

  Edition > shortcuts

  Create a new defined according to the standard, call it something like the set standard.

  Select the area of product > View menu

  In the list commands scroll shortcuts defective, grid and guides and replace shortcuts wrong with the standard shortcut: type in the new shortcut field and click assign. On the internet you can find several standard ID jump lists.

  You can delete the faulty shortcut.

  You'll notice that the correct shortcut is not assigned, which I think is a mistake in InDesign, there may be a problem of localization?
