OEM implementation Service Pack and patches

I explore the advantage of using the commissioning of OEM package to simplify the automated patch and new generation of db server process to facilitate deployment. I wonder if anyone has used these OEM features and I would like to get useful feedback how they are, what typical problems that you have, etc.. Any response would be appreciated.

Cisco Unity is ok with to apply the service pack or the service published by Microsoft bulletin. This isn't like CCM which must apply only Cisco released. is it not? Thank you

Lower in the policy is detailed:

Microsoft provides monthly updates for Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000 Server, Exchange 2003, Exchange 2000, SQL Server 2000, MSDE 2000, Internet Explorer and IIS. These updates (known under various names, including cumulative security patch fixes, security updates, patches and fixes critical updates) are limited to the changes that fix specific problems. They do not include general defect fixes or new features. All these Microsoft updates are certified by Cisco since the day when Microsoft releases. We recommend that you evaluate Microsoft Updates-ITMU according to your server-software-maintenance policy to determine when to update the Cisco Unity or Cisco Unity Bridge server. If your company does not have a policy, we recommend that Microsoft updates apply to the server as they become available. Cisco TAC supports a Cisco Unity system on which these updates have been installed.

Basically you can install patches - no SPs - as soon as Microsoft releases them.

  • Why can't load Windows 7 service pack 1 (KB976932)? I get error codes 80073712and 371b try to download the service pack and Exployer 9.

  • service packs and updates Vista

I'm trying to update my laptop after executing a recovery on it.   And it seems that there will be 1 million of updates. I loaded a lot and trying to load sp2 now and it tells me to load sp1, which I thought I had.  Can I go back and uninstall all updates, I did and just load sp1 and sp2 for them all?  Ready to buy a new computer laptop im...

The SP1 and SP2 are updated prerequisite that must be installed before you install the Service Pack. The best solution is not to install a Service Pack until and unless that it is offered by Windows Update, Kari. ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft

  • XP is slow after all service packs and updates. Is there a summary of Windows XP that includes all upgrades and runs FASTER?

I reformatted my Dell 2.4 ghz pc (only 512 MB of ram) to the original state of xp. It was incredibly FAST.  But to run programs, I was forced to upgrade to service pack 2. Service this pack 3.  It is slower than molasses in January in Chicago.  Microsoft has an XP consolidated and updated that includes all the security updates and new features in 1 integrated fast program?

Spin Norton - bought after that it came with the machine.

Ah! Norton applications are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself. This gives a whirlwind:

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Add/Remove Programs.

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. double-click on the file that you saved in #1 above to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of your Norton application, using your product ID & reboot: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

TIP: Do not activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8 test cycle.

  • Where can I get an upgrade to a level of XP that will allow me to upgrade service packs and offer a support band?

first version of xp do not have access to broadband

I reformatted my old computer as a second computer to the new computer that we received.  the version of XP that came with the computer is so old, it of broadband and does not have the ability to get online (FIOS).  so I know I need to get by the next generation of XP loaded.  This version has the service pack 1a.  This download on CD or a stick to get the XP computers at a level that I can continue the XP upgrade online?

    Thank you

    Stuart

    Two different questions, Stuart.

    1. by all means, it is certainly important to install SP3 and then install all updates of up-to-date security post-SP3. It's absolutely crucial to do this will greatly reduce you your chances of getting malware!

    2. However, the SP3 upgrade won't fix your lack of Internet connectivity. You have not provided enough information. We do not know how it is physically connected for example or what are the settings of your router. The most likely reason for what you describe is still, you forgot to install the drivers for your hardware! Once you do this, your Ethernet connection should work. (If not, then he is one of the other issues mentioned above.)

    So, here's your homework:

1 let us know the brand, model and model number of your old PC.

    2. tell us the method you to "reformat".

    3. go to the Device Manager and let us know of all the elements that have question marks next to them. There are several ways to do so. One way is to right click on desktop and select manage, then click on Device Manager.

    4. If you can do it yourself, visit the web site of the manufacturer of the PC to download the drivers you need to install later. If not, don't worry; We will help you.

    5. temporarily disable the automatic updates (using the control panel).

6 download the SP3 Setup file so that you can install it offline later:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24

7 download the IE8 Setup file so that you can install after installing SP3 also when you are offline:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Internet-Explorer/downloads/IE

    8. also, let us know what anti-virus program you plan to install. This installation file needs to be on hand as well. After the back if you want suggestions/advice. For now, I will recommend you avoid Norton and McAfee and use Avira AntiVir or Microsoft Security Essentials.

Once you have installed the necessary drivers, you will be able to physically disconnect from the Internet, install SP3, reboot, install IE8, restart TWICE, install your antivirus program, physically reconnect to the Internet, then download and install all post-SP3 security updates. To do this, go here:

    http://windowsupdate.Microsoft.com/

Note that some people have had problems with these updates lately. If this happens to you, too, you must first install the standalone Update Agent:

    http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

Finally, turn on the automatic updates (in Control Panel).

(More involved than you thought it would be, huh?)

I tried to restart normally, with the last known good configuration, safe mode, nothing.  I ordered a recovery disc and still nothing (think if I inserted the disc some type of 'magic' would occur and maybe get on the right track).

Thanks for posting with us.  Looks like you have tried most of the boot options.  I suggest you remove all external devices and you try to start.  If that doesn't help you need to check the options you have on your recovery CD.  If you can start the recovery console and then try to run the following commands:

  • OK, I have a legal copy of vista Home premium with service packs and updates from microsoft and want to start clean with a clean installation I do not have the original, only recovery and put installation disc at level Express disc?

OK, I know that this may be simple for most, but I have an of a moment _ this find.  As I said legal copy that has been saved... I backed up all my files on DVD, I don't care if I lose all the programs that I can always download them later.  Basically I want is that it was when I brought home the first time.  I searched high and low for the original disc of Vista but no luck.  I do not have people upgrade at any time, but I was not able to find a definitive answer about it online.  Not too complicate it again but I have 4 GB of ram and processor can run 64-bit, and I have 32-bit curently I'm sure you know where I'm going with that.  I know a little about how to do it, but want reasurance and direction from someone who knows hit safe and ready to help.  Any person who get end to this nightmare for me will be really appreciated.

    Shaun

Contact the manufacturer to obtain a set of recovery discs original (for a fee) and use them to make the initial installation.  Activate it.  Then you can do the upgrade and activate that.  You must install the original operating system in order to install the upgrade.  If you are going from 32 bits to 64 bits that cannot be done with an upgrade - which requires complete and clean installation.

Here is the Microsoft policy on replacement software; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246.

    I hope this helps.

Now - you need to understand what you have.  We'll see what we can do to help.

Use this web page: How to find what Windows XP Service Pack is installed
    .. to understand.

Come back - let everyone know.

According to back how you go - you'll need to install the SP2 and SP3 and all post SP3 updates to put this back on track...

FIRST: Uninstall Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8 installed. Back to all the way back to Internet Explorer 6. You want other patches before you get those. Reboot after doing this.

Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

    Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Get SP3 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

    Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).

    Install it.

    Reset.

Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.

Back - let everyone know if it worked for you.

In addition, if you run all this time without the latest service pack and patches, it is probably more things you can do...

Download an application AntiVirus installed and updated (what do you currently use?) - free are fine: Avira, AVG, Avast

You could spend ~ 60USD during two years of eSET NOD32 AntiVirus (not more - just product AntiVirus) and which would be more worthwhile.

Then - just to make sure you started on the right foot...

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner. Remove everything it finds.

    Reset.

  • The installation of Service Pack 3 for XP, I get an internal error that smss.exe is running and close all other applications. All applications are closed. Anyone else seen this error?

Is it safe to run an online scan to see if the smss.exe is a virus?  or do I remove smss.exe?  or is there a workaround?

  • Service packs, security updates, and the performance of the PC

First turn off let me say that I am certainly NOT too computer savvy... I know my way around, but do not know what things to say or do... That being said... My computer runs very slowly, even though I have downloaded MSE, clean space disk and Defrag... I was looking on my installed programs, and I have SO MANY service packs and security updates! (1) how security updates day and service packs? (2) they occupy space and make my computer run slower? (3) is it OK to delete the service packs and security updates

1 - security patches close security holes that have been found or improve security in some way. Service Packs are large infrequent updates that contain a selection of 'wound' of many previous updates as well as adding features/features additional.

2 & 3 - Microsoft/Windows updates take little space, but not a huge amount. However, given their importance and usefulness, I highly recommend that you leave alone, and then assign windows Update automatic recommended settings. If you start to remove the updates in a timely manner without the necessary expertise you can cause you problems.

Even if you say that you've defragmented & used cleaning disc, there are a few other things to look at in this article:
