My ancient Tecra PCMCIA port

Hi all

Now you're going to laugh at this, but I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra 720 TRC very crisp, running windows 98 OS. to business accounts etc, but I pay for an ISP connection for it.

I recently installed a wireless network around my house and a friend gave me a wireless adapter for the PCMCIA port. I installed the software for the hardware according to the instructions and put the card in a PCMCIA ports however to the control panel and the PCMCIA utility, read the two ports 'empty' is to say do not detect the card.

I went through all the usuals like run Add new Hardware etc etc and that he refuses the drivers manually.

But it's like my PCMCIA port is not active or broken. I've never used so far.

I took the card to a friends house to run on his laptop computer that runs XP and XP wireless it no problem. The card says that it is able to function with windows 98 etc., but being a newbie to all this stuff I don't know really what to do then as them is obviously not a problem with the adapter of the card itself.

Can someone help me out here?

It would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello

as a first step, you should check your BIOS settings. There is the possibility to modify the parameters of the PCMCIA slots.

Here you can change to PC-CARD (16 BIT) to CARDBUS (32 bit).

Your wireless card is a 32-bit Cardbus PCMCIA Card.

If you have changed, the card should be detected and the appropriate W98 drivers can be installed!

Bye Bob

  • On the PCMCIA Port of my Tecra M appears as "unknown".

    Hi all

I have a Tecra currently and happily used a GPRS / WiFi PCMCIA card for some time.

However, all of a sudden the status lights on the card itself began to go mad. The device itself does not support logging, but that I have determined the PCMCIA had become confused.

More precisely, it looks like real hardware had to be reinstalled.

I did a reinstall of software for the card and the o/s (WinXP) itself, but nothing helped.

While there are still a few left uninstalled features by default, there is clearly an 'unknown' PCMCIA it which requires drivers.

Any idea where I can get these? I can't find them on the main download page. It may be watching me with elbows or a case of rtfm, if so, please excuse me.

    Thanks in advance.

It would be useful to know what model of GPRS / Wifi PCMCIA card you use and the name of the client software.

After working on a well known UK mobile network connection utility, I can say that these devices can get tempermental, especially when another series of PCMCIA drivers has been installed before or since.

You seem to have tried the obvious solution, then googled around you can see if someone has had a similar experience and a possible solution.

  • Tecra A11 Port Replicator - do not enable external HARD disk when securing

    Hello

Had a problem with the Port Replicator port for my new Tecra - A11.

When I anchor the laptop in the Replicator, that is not automatically connecting external 700gig USB backup HDD, I have either pull the USB cable on the Replicator, or disable the drive HARD and again so he can be seen and recognized.

I never had this problem with my A8 and its replicator, I could just dock and everything was fine.

    I am running Win7

    Thank you... PK

    Hello

Seems that Win 7 is unable to recognize the external HARD drive that is already connected to the port replicator.
I m not very good if you had to install a software for this external HARD drive, but if software is required, and then try to reinstall again.

  • Tecra R850 - Port Replicator problem - no lan at startup

Hey guys I have a strange bug with a laptop computer Toshiba Tecra R850 customers with the port replicator. He is 8 months old.

Almost every morning when the client connects to the laptop computer to the Port Replicator port and power and the Windows 7 Desktop on startup it does not create a "LAN" connection (external monitor & USB works well through the Port Replicator).

I have to get the customer to power the laptop off, disconnect the port replicator, disconnect the electric power from the port replicator and then plug everything back in and re - turn on the laptop.

Here's what I've ruled out so far:
Port replicator: Replicator port, I've replaced with another unit of users (exact same model), same problem.
Directly connected LAN: if I connect the LAN directly (i.e. remove the duplicator) I have no problem with the LAN/Internet connection.

Here is the part number of the laptop and the dock:
    Tecra R850: PT520A-01N003
    Port Replicator II: PA3916A-1PRP

Any ideas? Could this be a faulty stowage on the phone port?

    Kind regards
    Aaron

    Hello

Don t think its faulty docking port because in this case other ports Port Replicator would not work

I think its problem of system have you tested with costs recovered system port replicator?

  • For Tecra A7 port replicator

    Hello

I was wondering if anyone knew if the Advanced Port Replicator III (PA3314U-1PRP) would be appropriate for the Tecra A7 (PTA71A-011003). Laptop specifications recommend the Advanced Port Replicator III more (PA3474U-1PRP), although I have found a few references on the internet that the Rep ADV III Port more is virtually identical to the Adv POrt Replicator III. Is this true?

    Thank you
    Rohit

    Hello

You are right. Toshiba recommends using AdvPortRepIIIplus with your model of laptop Tecra but I am sure, that you can also use Advanced Port Replicator III 99%.

  • PCMCIA port problem

After you have reinstalled the operating system XP on my T42p, I ran the automatic driver installation program. I will leave my wireless pcmcia card in the slot and it does not work (the bit the dust a few months ago internal wireless card). When I look in Device Manager, under PCMCIA cards, it shows two controllers "Texas Instruments PCI - Cardbus 4250". I don't know if I believe in the automatic installer that Lenovo provides! Anyone know if TI adapters are the good ones? I remember this adapter in previous instances of my installation of Windows; but then again I had no problems with the front slot. Thanks in advance for any help on how to get the wireless features.

It looks like a problem with the drivers for the card. I do not remember to reinstall the drivers on the latest system s/w installation, but I'm wrong.

  • Tecra M7 & express II PA3680E-1PRP port replicator do not work together

    Hello

I ve a Toshiba tecra M7 in recent years and have just bought a brand new sealed express duplicator II model PA3680E (docking station) but unfortunately it does not work and a new replacement, sent by the provider does not work.

    What's happening:
With docking station connected to the start; nothing happens, and the Green dock light stays off.

Windows when I put the tecra m7 on the dock it connects and disconnects immediately then will not reconnect. The power of power port, the lan port and the power switch work on the dock, but I understand that these are just happening through connections. The Green led power lights up also for less than a second.

For example, when I do a connection hot, windows is connection chime followed immediately by a chime of disconnection and restores, also all USB connected devices flick-on and immediately off the coast.

I ve tried under the original Toshiba windows XP install (with the latest Toshiba) and a fresh install of windows 7 (fully updated with all the update from Toshiba). BIOS is the latest available 3.50 (also tried 1.70 & 3.20 bios). tried bios USB legacy on and outside.

    Can someone please help

    Hello

    > With docking station, connected to the start; nothing happens, and the Green dock light stays off.

The green light that is placed near the eject button it lights up green during normal operation and must be extinguished if the phone has been disconnected.

If the led does not light green, so I guess that the laptop is not connected correctly.

If you connect the laptop for the first time to the port replicator, a message should appear stating the device connected to the port replicator are ready to use.

In my opinion, there could be a problem with the pins or connectors, but the question is what may be touched connector: on the side of Tecra or port replicator

However, I think that go you to your dealer and need to test another.

  • Satego X 200 - 21 d - port PCMCIA specifications

    Hi all

can someone told me the specific for the PCMCIA port? In particular, I want to know how much Volt slot a.
3.3 v or 5 V or can slot two of them?

    Kind regards
    Adrian

    Hi twister666,

Satego X 200 - 21 d doesn t have PCMICA slot, slot Express Card. This slot allows you to insert an Express card. An Express card module is a modular technology, small snap card based on USB and PCI Express. The maximum transmission rate at 2.5 Gbit/s. The two type of 34mm and 54 type are supported.

But on the tension, I can find no information, but I think that's not important because there is a standard voltage for this specification that each card will work.

  • Satellite 105-S157: USB 2.0 via a PCMCIA card does not work

I installed the pcmcia card with BIOS update V2.1 and work under WIN XP sp2.
It seems to work normally in Device Manager, but when I plugged in the USB, it may not recognise.
If I can access usb PCMCIA ports.

This laptop does support USB 2.0?
How can I make it work?

    Please help?

    Thank you

    Hello

It is a brand new model Toshiba and I guess that it supports high speed USB 2.0.
Sometimes, the operating system can not recognize external USB devices due to the limitation of power. The fact is that the USB port gives the 500mA. It is a standard value.
If the USB device use a higher power, the OS cannot recognize and activated the device.
In this case the external power supply is necessary. Another possibility is to use the USB hub with an external power supply.

  • SP 420CDT - card PCMCIA and Win98

    Hello

Don't know if anyone can help me, I recently bought a Satalite Pro 420CDT second hand with a fresh install of Win 98 SE.

  • PCMCIA slot stopped working on Satellite Pro A40

    Hello

I have a SPA40 and it seems that the PCMCIA port has stopped working.
I had a Netgear WN511b wireless network adapter is connected and works fine.
Returned to the laptop after a few hours and everything froze upwards. Rebotted and got a * IDE 1 error * and since then the card did not work.

I tried the card in another phone, and it seems to work very well, and therefore assume that the slot became defective. I looked at the Device Manager and everything seems t work very well.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could try to fix this.

    Thanks a lot, in anticipation.

    Steve

    Hello

I wonder about the error message.
The error message what IDE #1 said that the device connected to the #1 IDE controller was not recognized by the BIOS.
In most cases the CD/DVD drive is connected to the IDE controller, and so your CD/DVD drive should not be recognized.

In your case, I would recommend access the BIOS, and then to set the BIOS parameters returned by default.

But I'm not sure if this would help you because in most cases, this question appears due to a hardware problem. And in most cases the affected material must be replaced.
