Opening programs

When I open a program, a small window appears on the monitor. I would like to open it in the format full screen please.

Three options.

1: take the corners of the window and drag it to the format full screen. Do not use to expand. Close all other windows first via the taskbar and the latter. Windows will remember the size of the last closed window the next time that you open the program.

2: any shortcut you use to launch the window, right-click, and select Properties. Under the 'Run' drop-down list, choose "expanded".

  • why I can't open programs without a box saying 'Open with' open chose the program

I am an administrator on this computer, but opening programs on my desktop, I get a dialog box indicating "open with: choose a program to open this program with ' and there are recommended to choice and others to browse. But on my husband's office it can automatically open programs.

I have no problem from my office on this computer, but other users have.

What does it mean above?  It seems to be incompatible with your initial statement that "to open programs on my desktop, I get a dialog box indicating" open with: choose a program to open this program with... " »

If you mean that when you double click shortcuts to applications (e.g., Word), you get the menu 'Open with' instead of opening the application, this means that the file association for exe files (applications) and probably also for lnk (shortcut) has been corrupted, probably by malware.

To correct the file associations go to http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm read the documents at the top of the page, in particular the 'NOTE', then download and use the EXE File Association Fix and the difficulty of Association LNK (shortcut) file.

Assuming that these steps fix your immediate problem, download, install, update and run full scans BOTH of the following free tools.  Do not run them both simultaneously.  The scans will take some time, so start an and then go for a non computer chore.  You can uninstall scanners when you're done, if you wish.

Thanks for posting. First check with the OEM of your computer ram or motheboard to see if there are diagnostic tools that are available to the general public equipment for you test your equipment with. In addition, get with your OEM motherboard / computer to retrieve the steps on how to update your BIOS and drivers. • cannot open programs by right click and run as administrator

had a virus earlier today, I think it was the security of windows one... anyway I got rid of it with malwarebytes and restarted my computer. now, for some reason, I can't run programs without going through a right-click and run as an administrator.
When I try to run normally (left-click) I get this window "open with."
I'm not very good with technical terms, but I tried several fixes that have failed

When I right click, open properties, then open the tab compatibility... "run this program as Administrator" button is grayed out so I can't do anything with that.

turning UAC enabled or disabled dosent seem to do anything.

Some programs are completely inaccessible, (like microsoft word)

I also watched regedit but as didemt not a lot of sense to me at all. If anyone could break how to fix this step by step before reinstalling the DVD (which I did not), you will be my best friend

    Hi Gstone,

    Method 1

You can try to change the file association in the control panel and check if that helps you solve the problem.

You can access the link below and follow the instructions on how to change that uses default Windows programs:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default

    Method 2

If the steps above do not work I suggest you try to create a new user account and check if you can open programs and windows normally.

    Create a new user account.

    a. open user accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click user accounts and family safety (or by clicking on user accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking user accounts.

    b. click on manage another account. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    c. click on create a new account.

    d. type the name you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click on create an account.

If you are able to access it by using the new profile, access the link below and follow the steps to correct the user's profile.

One of the ID of the user (Vista computer) will not store & display recently open in the Start Menu programs. The ID shows them correctly. I know how to activate it in the taskbar and Start Menu properties, but it still won't show them.

I transferred this profile to a Windows 7 computer and it still does not work. Any suggestions?

    Hi BrianMBC,

You can try to disable and enable recent items and check if it works.

1 click on taskbar and go in Properties.

    2. on the Start Menu tab

    3. request for the protection of personal information Division

    4. uncheck the box store and view a list of recently opened programs

    5. click on apply.

    6. click on ok

    7. Navigate back to the tab as well as above.

    8. now Activate store and view a list of recently opened programs.

If this does not work, you can try to check if the problem is related to the damaged user account. You can try to create a new user account and check if it works.

    1. open user accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click user accounts and family safety, and then by clicking on user accounts.

    2. click on Manage another account.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. click on new account.

    4. type the name you want to assign to the user account, click an account type (Administrator), and then click on an account.

Here is a link that will give you information on how to create a new user account.

  • Windows 8 doesn't remember size and position of the previously open programs

I hope that if there is no solution for this problem, at least it can be taken as feedback on the next update of WIndows 8.

    The question is:

I use Windows 7 and WIndows 8 at home to work.

Now, Windows 7 remembers the size and position of all my previously opened programs (I mean by "programs": EXCEL, INTERNET EXPLORER, FILES, WINDOWS MAIL, WORD, POWERPOINT and others), so that when opens again, they open in the same place and size that they were finally on the closure.

So I can arrange some programs to occupy some space on the desktop, and each time that I open them they will open in the same place.

However, WIndows 8 does NOT. When you use the desktop computer in Windows 8 even after organizing the progams to where I like them every time, the next time I open them they will NOT open in the same place or size.

Or sometimes it does, but only once, but then not do the next time.

In any case, it is so NOT intuitive and it is a huge concern to be their resizing each time.

Anyone know WHY? and more importantly if there is a solution? or, where and how can I let Microsoft have this feedback so that the Windows 8.1 update can include a fix for this?

    Additional data:

System: Windows 8 64-bit (w/Panel touchscreen desktop PC)
I use my taskbar on the top of the screen in my Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs.

    Thank you!!

Next time, when you open the Windows Explorer window, you should remember that the windows of size when it was closed the last time.

If this isn't the case, then this problem occurs because the registry to the folder options settings are incorrect.

Note: Serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
