'Operation timed out', while protecting a virtual machine

When you try to configure protection on a virtual machine in 4.1 SRM and every time I do it fails with the error 'Operation timed out' and I see the following error message in the log of Site Recovery Manager:

Someone at - it no indication on what this alarm tells me and how to fix?

Thank you.

V.

I saw this problem after repairing the installation of SRM. Restart both servers SRM has solved the problem.

In your case, this is the new installation or did you 'fix' recently?

    Hello world

"VMware vSphere® fault tolerance (FT) ensures the continued availability of the applications in the event of server failure by creating an instance of live snapshots of a virtual machine that is always up to date with the first virtual machine. No, you can't, because there is an incompatibility with FT.

  • vSphere high availability 'Élection' fails at 99% 'operation timed out' to 1 of the 2 hosts

    Hello

We had a system with 1 host ESXi 5.1 with local disks.

Now, we install redundancy by adding a 5.5 U2 ESXi host and a device of vCenter 5.5.

After having installed and any addition to vcenter, we went the ESXi 5.1 to 5.5 U2 ESXi. The SAN works correctly (vMotion works on the own NETWORK card).

Now, if I try to activate the high availability, both servers will install the HA Agent and start "Election".

All the warehouses of data (4) on the SAN are chosen for the HA heartbeat, response of isolation is "keep it turned on" by default.

A server will always be this process done, and the other will keep "elect" until it reaches 100% and errors on the operation "election timed out.

I've seen this problem on both servers, so I think that the 'master' elected does not have the problem, only the "slave".

I have checked these items and executed, but not worked:

VMware KB: Reconfiguration HA (FDM) on a cluster fails with the error: operation timed out

    -The services were running

VMware KB: Configuration HA in VMware vCenter Server 5.x does not work, error: Operation Timed out

-All the MTU has been set at 1500

VMware KB: VMware High Availability Configuration fails with the error: unable to complete the configuration of the ag of HA...

-the default gateway is not the same on the two hosts, but I fixed that. There is no itinerary changes. HA the setting is "leave power." After correction and deactivation/reactivation HA, the problem is always the same.

VMware KB: Check and reinstall the correct version of the VMware vCenter Server agents

-J' ran "Reinstall ESX host management agents and HA on ESXi" agent of HA, and I checked that it was uninstalled and reinstalled during the reactivation of HA.

    CP /opt/vmware/uninstallers/VMware-fdm-uninstall.sh/tmp
    chmod + x /tmp/VMware-fdm-uninstall.sh
    /tmp/vmware-FDM-uninstall.sh

I did this for two guests. This fix makes the problem of the election and I was still able to run a HA test successfully, but when after this test, I turned off the 2nd Server (in order to test the PA in the other direction), HA has no failover to 1 and everything remained low. After pressing 'reconfigure HA', the problem of the election appeared again on 1 hosts.

    Best regards

    Joris

P.S. I had problems with cold Migration during the implementation of the SAN. After setting up all (vMotion, ESX upgrade), these problems have disappeared.

When you search for this error, I came to this article: KB VMware: VMware vCenter Server displays the error message: unable to connect to the host

And this cause could make sense, since the server vCenter changed and IP addressing has been changed during the implementation.

However, in the file vpxa.cfg, the < hostip > and < serverip > is correct (verified by using https://< hostip > / home).

Tried this again today, no problem at all.

P.P.S. I have set up several of these systems from scratch in the past without problem (if it is an 'upgrade').

OK, so the problem is solved.

I contacted Dell Pro Support (OEM offering the license) and they checked the logs (fdm.log) and found that the default IP gateway could not be reached.

The default gateway is the ip address by default host isolation, used by HA.

Because it is an isolated production system, the front door provided proved only for future purposes.

Now, I've changed the default gateway address of management on the switch plugged into both hosts, namely the ping requests.

    This solved any problem.

  • VShield Configuration Manager 4.1 (and how to protect a virtual machine?)

I have 2 ESXi hosts currently configured in vCenter 4.1.  Before vShield installation Manager, he had 3 vSwitches present on each server; a regular and two distributed.

    • vSwitch0 - connected to vmnic0 - has management and production of network 1 10.168.90.x

    • VLAN 10.1 - VMFN connected to vmnic1 on each host - connects to the private physical network 10.1.x.x

    • VLAN 10.2 - VMFN connected to vmnic2 on each host - connects to the private physical network 10.2.x.x

After you install vShield Manager in a new virtual machine and then to deploy vShield Zones to each ESXi host, develops a new vSwitch

vmservice-vswitch - again group of ports in Virtual Machine vmservice-vshield-pg - not connected to any physical cards

VMS individual vShield-FW created for each host have connected network cards as below

    • Production network normal 1 - VM Network adapter (attached to vSwitch 0).

    • Production network normal 2 - VM Network adapter (attached to vSwitch 0).

    • Adapter 3 - vmservice-vshield-pg network

I tried to connect my VMs to the network vmservice-vshield-pg in order

to protect them and place them behiind the firewall.  However, who has

seem to work, and my VM has lost network connectivity.

How to protect a virtual machine that needs to connect to the normal production

Network (on vSwitch0)?  Is there any configuration steps I'm missing?

What happens if I want to connect a virtual machine or one of its network cards to one of the 10.1.xx

or 10.2.x.x networks rather than the normal 10.168.90.x network?  What

additional steps should I make?  The new 4.1 documentation is not

helped at all, and it seems that the old vShield Zones 1.0 docs are not

    applies to all.

There is no need to change the virtual computer is connected to the network.

Just activate/install vShield zones on your hosts and add rules to the vSwitch or data center.

The virtual machine will be becomes protected if no error is displayed.

  • Operation Timed out - vSphere API

    Hello

This follows the validation of my colleague Tony Gent on Snap Mount LUNs will.

I've coded successfully a routine to call queryunresolvedVmfsvolumes in a few test environments and to manipulate the result for the host will, but critical on-site routine returns with a message 'operation timed' out after 100 seconds.  I tried the navigation to the CROWD and call the method and does not return the expected results but takes a little less than 4 minutes.  I don't see the value of operating time is configurable anywhere and the method has no parameters and is not the task.  I looked at the box VC that I sign too and also the host I use the method on.

Does anyone know if the value of timeout is configurable (I think I'm screwed, if it isn't!)

    see you soon

    MikeL

The problem is that cmdlet Get-View creates a new instance of VimService as parameter values of Id are not owned by the customer.

But if you change $view_object. Property of Client.VimService.Timeout and immediately after that call the $view_object method, that works too long, it should work.

    That is to say:

    ...
    $hostview = Get-VMHost myHost | Get-View
    $dsmanager = Get-View $hostview.ConfigManager.DatastoreSystem

    $dsmanager.Client.VimService.Timeout = -1 # Infinite timeout
    $dsmanager.QueryUnresolvedVmfsVolumes()

Unfortunately, this happens from time to time.  The work around is simply restart the host as it is, and then maintenance.

  • Is there a way to force out XP in a virtual machine?

I bought a new iMac last week and Apple Store people transferred my files from the old machine, except for the Boot Camp partition. I decided to give up Boot Camp and install Windows XP in Fusion that I did successfully but has no transfer or re - install my programs or data because Apple has informed me that I had a bad hard drive Seagate, which was recalled. The tech came today and swapped out and I restored from a backup time machine, with the intention of re - install XP. Thought that I had excluded the virtual machine from the Time Machine backup so I was a bit surprised when he showed up after the restoration. I was able to reboot the virtual machine VMWare Fusion in XP and installed Norton AV and Quicken however when I tried to install MS Works (while legacy software) Windows froze and don't re - start, does not close and I have this strange little window that does not close.

    Any ideas?

In case you want to force shut down a virtual machine, you can use this methord:

Go to menu Fusion, Virtual Machine, and then you will see "Shut Down" (it's soft closing down like stopping a virtual machine safely). Then hold down the option key, you will see changed in "Force shutdown", it's a power off of closing down. Use this when your VM is hang.

  • New to vCO. Trying to figure out which cluster a virtual machine lives in

    Hello.

I created a simple 'Hello' workflow VM in vCO and added to vcenter so that it appears in the right click menu of a virtual machine.

When I run it, the entrance is pre-populated with the name of the virtual machine just as I expected.

In the Scripting section, I am just running

    System.log ('Hello', + vm.displayName);

    System.log (' VM ID: "+ vm.id");

I'm trying to figure out how I can get the cluster who lives this virtual machine, but the property is not part of the VC:VirtualMachine.

I have to take advantage of another type of entry to obtain data or another workflow to get this information?

    Thank you.

My bad. I didn't know this when I tried first.

    I'll try that. Thank you!

  • Cant be able to see the disc format option while creating a virtual machine

    Hello

When I try to create a VM, I can't able to see options disc format (thin provision) not only on his arrival for all hosts host, clusters, data center in Vcenter and and all data warehouses. Before it was working fine yesterday, I'm not able to see. How do we enable this option. What is the cause of this problem.

Please help me VMware Guru. Since we very request with limited resources, we have to reverse the If select layout slim brand new virtual machine.

Work around: enabled storage profile in one of the cluster and I tried it but no luck

All are allowed and showing same

Recent change of him that activity is carried out in our end is added to the new data store.

Please see the screen shot for your reference below.

continue to the section "Select a disk" and then under create a disk task, you will have an option under "Supply of drive" to select the desired disc type.

  • Protection group virtual machines do not have consistent snapshop point in time using vSphere replication

As the title, we feel when capturing instant timestamp for virtual machines in a protection group.

Which means a group of database servers, applications, and others, when drill us test to start the virtual machines in the recovering site files timestamp in the virtual machines are varied.

Snapshot work is executed simultaneously for all virtual machines in the group when planning replication hit? Or is it because certain virtual machines (like DB) speak more time to complete the snapshot so than others like apps VM completed early?

Anyone hit this problem? We use vSphere replication instead of array based replication.

    Thanks /.

    Dylan

    Hello

It is a behavior expected with current versions of vSphere replication - replication source host Scheduler is not aware of any grouping of virtual machines and starts the replica instance to meet the RPO requirements. The decision when to start a new instance is based on the time of loading and transfer to some of the previous instances.

Multi-vm coherence is on the roadmap for a future release and will describe what exactly you address issues.

If you use VR 5.5, you may use multiple points depending on the time (JEREMIAH) and after switching some of the old machines instances (represented by VM snapshots) to match the State of the other machines.

    Kind regards

  • Protection of virtual machines with RDM

I read through some of the old discussions on replicate and protect RDM and I have not read any good news yet.

I have a volume on a cluster v6080 reproducing with snapmirror to a cluster of fas6080. I checked that the LUNS are replicated and are mapped to the recovery site esx hosts. I have re-scanned on both sides and checked that the LUNS are presented through the Victoria Cross on both sides. I have a machine virtual with a 3 LUN RDM and VMFS LUNs (RDM were created with SnapDrive one 6.0). When I go to set up protection for the VM, VMFS LUNs status is "replicated" for the location of recovery, but 3 RDM show as "not configured". My only 2 options are to detach (which won't allow me to recovery these RDM) or to browse a data store on the recovering site and locate a hard, .dsk or .raw which does not exist because the replicated LUNS are read-only. Right?

What Miss me? Anyone had success reproducing and failover RDMs attached to a virtual machine?

Looking forward to your answers. Thank you.

    Eddie

    Eddie,

I have problem with HP storage RDM similar hada. I made a new analysis (twice, as usual) in the configuration of SRM-online picture and then frames that worked for me.

  • personalization operation timed out VMware View 4.5

I'm quite new to Vmware view and this is my first time setting up, please bare with me.

I get the above error when trying to automatically create a related pool.

I also spent review the previous post that says abot ensuring that:

    • DHCP is enable on the master image
    • VMware view agent is installed
    • VMware tools is installed
    • The firewall is disabled

The new virtual machines are created and when I connect to Vsphere is to see that they connect to the field, receive IP from the DHCP server. But I don't see their name in my DNS.

I hope to have provided enough information and you will appreciate any help.

    To the first just nslookup query, and check whether or not the host of clones name is resolved. Also select al virtual machines to see the Administrator page and perform a reset and see<--  if="" both="" these="" actions="" resolve="" your="" issue="" then="" it="" was="" due="" to="" a="" minor="" network="" outage="" happened="" during="" the="" provisioning="">

    Otherwise,.

    1. If the DNS server is a server active directory integrated one or not? If this is not the case, check the permission to register for this DNS server.

    2. the question of whether the DNS entry received from the DHCP server to clone is directed to the right DNS server? and same DNS / domain name cannot be resolved vcenter server?

    3. have you used Sysprep customization? If Yes, be aware that the domain setting is not levied custom specification but DNS settings will be taken from custom spec. In this case the definition given in the spec custom DNS should resolve the field added in vcenter configuration Admin display page
