Oracle Database Sizing CPU

Hi all

Our production database is running on 12 CPU cores. Based on the "sar" report CPU utilization, we noticed this always above 90% idle CPU time and some time (for backup), he arrived nearly 70%. (This means that its use is of about ~ 30 to 40%). O ifyour team has decided to migrate this database to 6 core CPU in order to reduce the cost of license and server cost.

Please suggest it will be good to migrate the database to 6 CPU cores?

Can anyone please share me measures documents to capture the database, the CPU usage and also please share all documents on the sizing of the CPU/hardware of oracle database.

Our database current as below, server details

Model of processor - Intel Xeon processor X 5650 @ 2.67 GHz (server - Dell PowerEdge M820)

Total number CPU = 24 (active multithreading)

Total number of cores - 12, 2 physical cores CPU.i.e 2 * 6

RAM - 64 GB

Details of the database

Version - 11.2.0.1 (NO CARS)

Size - 400GO

Users - 300 users (150 concurrent users).

Let me know if you need more information on this.

Thank you

If you have Enterprise Edition licenses, you can test the effect on your current platform by enabling the instance caging. It is a low risk.

The CPU is not powerful enough for Oracle database 11g?

I installed the datatase Oracle 11 g on my host by using the default configuration of oracle yesterday. Today, I find some the alert message: "CPU usage is 86,79%, through attention (80) or critical (95) threshold.» The average value of the CPU usage is 80.85% and I have to wait for more than 10 seconds for opening a page of the EM.
My host is HP workstation xw4200. CPU is 3.4 GHz. No other applications on that host.
I want to know: what is the main reason for the shortage of CPU resources? Because the database Oracle 11g itself is exhausting CPU or because there are a few configuration issues?

    qkc wrote:
1 is it true that most of the CPU is exhausted by the EM control tool?

    It's quite possible.

It is also one of the reasons why we encourage people to drop EM Database Console and switch to EM Grid Control. The burden is then on another server.

    2. why this index has been added in advance by Oracle Corporation? It does not seem that each tool is set up perfectly in advance.

It was probably not required under ideal conditions, in which it has been designed and tested.

Why is your environment not identical to the designed conditions that use Oracle? ;-)

  • Use Oracle database with LabVIEW

I am new to Oracle database usage and I worked on the MS Access database. I want to use the Oracle database in one of our applications to store data and retrieve data using SQL instead of MS Access instructions. Please give some suggestions which less than the version that I can use? y at - it a free version that I can get? What I need deilver with software.

Yes, there is a free version called Oracle XE which works very well. In fact, it is intended (which Oracle referred to as) OEM applications. It is free to use, and there is assistance available forums which are also free. The free version has all the features of the business, with a couple of limit: first of all, it will only access a carrot in your CPU. Second, the maximum data size is 4 GB.

In regards the connection to it, check out this discussion.

  • ERP requires a dedicated server to Oracle Database access?

Recently, I checked a database that had a problem due to CPU and memory constraints. When checking the database, I have seen that the server will run in dedicated server mode. I figured that it was the cause of the problem and proposed to change this shared server mode. But according to admin app that won't help and also for the ERP Oracle database must be dedicated mode. Because I'm not admin app I just wanted to ask - is it true? How to configure ERP is not to request a dedicated database service.

We did not apply a patch CPU or power supply until today.i want to apply last patch of power supply to my oracle databases. we would think that offer more security to the database, please suggest me the last patch of PSU for that not to apply previous patches.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle database inventory report

    Hello

Foglight 5.6.4 monitor us Oracle DBs.

How to generate the inventory of Oracle database report that gives all the objects, the invalid objects, tables without PK, etc.?

    Thank you.

    Hi guy,

5.6.4 Oracle cartridge includes these out-of-the-box reports:

    • Balance report - displays the workload balance between selected nodes of the RAC cluster
    • Drive capacity report - displays a breakdown of the use of storage space disk at the level of the host from the host.
    • Health status of check - displays various aspects of the health of the instance specified, namely: availability, status of the listener, response time and connection time
    • I/o activity report - full screens of activity of IO, including workload, the wait events and physical analysis against writing and logical read operations
    • Report availability - displays free/busy information at the level of the instance of the instance.
    • Data storage report - displays a breakdown of the use of space of storage of data to the host, instance, and tablespace level.
    • Oracle executive summary report
    • Report of the PL/SQL blocks
    • Summary report of storage - provides an overview of disk space, the use of the ASM, archive redo logs status, albums and destinations of tablespaces and data files
    • Top of page DB Users
    • Top SQLs report - provides information detailed about the SQL statements that experienced the longest period of consumption of CPU or total wait events
    • Summary report - global workload workload displays, using various performance

You can schedule or run these reports from the reports dashboard.

You can create additional custom reports by using drag and drop basis, or WCF reports for more sophisticated reports. WCF allows you to copy and modify out-of-the-box reports.

If you have a requirement for additional reports of out-of-the-box, please submit a detailed description in the ideas to be considered for a future version of the product. You can simultaneously publish the same information here in Discussions as a "How-to" question if you would like some advice on how to achieve this in the meantime.

There seems to be a problem with Oracle 11 g R2 universal install (YES) detect the configuration of the server that requires administrative action, C$ to create.

Start to--> settings--> panel-->--> computer management administration tools

Expand 'Shared folders' then right click on "Actions" and select "new file sharing."

    Define share C$ as follows

    Folder to share: C:\

    Share name: C$

Once this is done YES detects the configuration of controls of pre-installation without any problem (at least in Windows XP Pro SP3)

  • Help decide which version of the oracle database, I need

I am trying to run Oracle APEX for a single site. All I want is to know if the limit of 11 GB data on Express edition can be used on a single table (can I have a table with 11 GB in there) and if what happens if I'm out of that?

Also for a single server to the cheaper oracle database and apex license should solution that allows a storage more than that that I use? I'm confused because it says that there is a license of 5 minimal use?

Does anyone know what version of oracle db is right for me?

If you are using the express edition, you can put all 11 GB a table if you wish, assuming that you create all the other tables. Would not resemble a reasonable design - to me you would be probably better to standardize the data at least a little model - but it would work. If you have tried to exceed the limit of 11 GB, you get an error.

If 'site' means ' public web site ", you need to use licensing by CPU. The cheapest option would be Standard Edition One running on a server that is small enough (I think two physical processors is the limit of material you need).

With shared server, you have the following resources imprint.

You need one or more dispatcher processes. They will be processes that deal with the real client connections. Each such process will be a physical process on Linux/Unix, or a thread on Windows.

You need one or more shared server processes. They will be the process that the service of the customer requests. A shared server process can only service application for a single client at a time. But during his life, he can serve many different customers. Each such process will be a physical process on Linux/Unix, or a thread on Windows.

You must keep state data (called UGA or User Global Area) for each client connection. With a dedicated server, the UGA resides inside the memory of the server process. Shared server cannot have the UGA but they need to deal with a number of different clients over a lifetime and so a number of different UGAs.

In addition, 1 shared server can process with your 1st request SQL (and the need to use UGA your connection), and when you run your 2nd SQL a few minutes later, shared 5 server needs to use your UGA.

So the UGA must be shared - and this is why it is stored in the SGA of the Oracle instance.

And this is in short the resource footprint, you need for shared servers.

Keep in mind that a shared server can only service application for a single client at a time. A customer who has a complex query will be shared care for awhile and keep him from answering other customers. It would be ' + selfish + "customer - and such a client must use its own dedicated instead server connection instead. Generally - OLTP queries are ideal for shared servers (because they lack the length) and type OLAP applications are best for dedicated servers (because these are complex and slow to do).

If you want more details on this point - there are many sources available. I suggest you first to the Oracle documentation through (http://tahiti.oracle.com), front of Googling the web for resources.

  • Question about the Oracle database resource management

    Good evening
I have a question about Oracle database Resource Management (DRM) for Oracle Database 10 g. I had an incident which, in a development/UAT environment (different instances, same box, don't ask), a developer wrote a wrong SQL statement that consumed 99% of the CPU. Currently, there is no limit of resources on two cases of db, and the developers don't want limits. However, my manager wants a method to prevent something like this does not happen. If I use the Oracle database resources management, create a consumer group (called "DevEnv") at 40% CPU usage, what will happen if a user of DevEnv runs a bad SQL statement that normally consumes 90% CPU again? Anyone would take a different approach? Thank you.

    Sincerely,

Yes, because the available processor would be 40%, they use more, while.

Hi, anyone knows where to find the items, case studies or related literature on the benefits of putting Oracle under Linux? I need information to propose changes in our environments. Execution of any RDBMS on a platform that requires frequent updates antivirus and antivirus software to prevent compromise just makes no sense.

  • Connect to the Oracle database fails when you use Microsoft ODBC or OLE DB Driver

There was a problem when you apply the KB3126587 hotfix where connections to an Oracle database using the Microsoft ODBC driver fails if run from automated processes. Running the same process manually would succeed. The update issued KB3147071 solved the problem successfully.

Yesterday, several patched have been applied and the problem came back. The patches are: KB2862152, KB2868626, KB3163244, KB3168965, KB3170455, KB3163251.

I saw yet no acknowledgement or difficulty of Microsoft. I prefer not to uninstall security patches, but it is a problem of production.

Any ideas what specific patch maybe breaking it again?
