Our Toshiba Inspiron will not start windows, even in safe mode. Help, please!

After the updates of this week, the system will not load anything.

Hi Juliet,

Thanks for asking the question in the Microsoft Community forum.

From your description, I understand that after Windows Update, you can not load Windows.

To better understand the question, please answer the following questions:

1. What is the version of the Windows operating system that is installed on your computer?

Reference: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/help/which-version-of-the-windows-operating-system-am-i-running

2. what happens when you try to load the system? You receive an error message?

3. what application or anti-virus security suite is installed on your computer?

4. you remember after installation of update, you are facing this problem?

Remove any external device connected to the computer without keyboard and mouse and then perform the methods.

If you are using Windows 7 and Windows Vista, follow the mentioned methods:

Method 1:

If the computer does not start in safe mode, perform the last known good Configuration.

Reference: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/using-last-known-good-configuration

Note: Link above also applies to Windows Vista.

Question remains always use same method 2.

Method 2:

Try to perform the Startup Repair and check.

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/Startup-Repair

If you are using Windows XP, follow the mentioned methods:

Method 1:

Perform the last known good configuration.

Method 2:

How to fix a computer that does not start

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-XP/help/Setup/how-to-fix-computer-that-will-not-start

Hope the above information is useful, if you have any question back to us, we are happy to help you.

Thank you.

  • Blue screen. Windows does not start. Even on Safe Mode!

When I turned on my laptop the windows logo and everything is in place. But then comes the black screen and ask the options to start windows normally, start in safe mode, ect. I chose to start normally, then a blue screen appears which says that the computer has shut down to prevent damage. He said that I had to disable all anitivirus and other things that I don't have to read. I tried every other selection as start in safe mode, start in safe mode with command prompt, in the other options, I get the same blue screen. I really need to get this problem fixed. I have no CD of installition XP, I have no CD of restoration, I have nothing to work with, so I just need to know a way around it.

There is no magical way around that without any installation disc. Most laptops come with a picture of factory restore on a special partition on the hard drive. The factory restore process is normally called by pressing a key of function (such as F11) to start the computer. There will be a message as to what function key press the screen when you start your computer. You can also consult the manual of your computer or the computer mftr.'s site, or contact technical support to learn how to restore your computer if you plant from each computer mftr. He does it differently - sometimes even between models.

These machines also generally have a utility to create physical recovery disks in case the hard drive needs to be replaced or the factory restore image is somewhat damaged. If you have not created the recovery image recovery physical and damaged disks, contact technical support of computer mftr. to order a set of recovery disks. It is normally very expensive, around $20-25.

Before you try to restore the computer, you must determine if the material is good. You can test yourself:

    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot

A good troubleshooting step is to start with a Linux Live CD. I like Knoppix, but there are others. This has two advantages: 1) if the system works, you can back up all the data that missed your last backup; and (2) with the machine running Linux allows to determine whether the problems are caused by software or hardware. If the machine is unbearably slow and/or Linux cannot run correctly, you know that the hardware is at fault. If the machine behaves perfectly under Linux, you know that the software (Windows) is at fault.

If the equipment is faulty, if you replace it or not depends of which component is bad and the age of the machine.

If the material is good (maybe Windows has been severely infected with a virus/malware and that's why he no longer starts for example), then perform a restore if you plant using any method has been provided by the computer laptop mftr.

If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).

  • Firefox crashes on opening a few seconds. has all of a sudden started several weeks ago and I have not been able to get since. I reinstalled but update did not work. It will not be open even in safe mode. Help!

Firefox crashes on opening a few seconds. That started everything suddenly a few weeks ago, and despite several attempts to every day, I still cannot load firefox application. It crashes immediately on startup every time anything and journalist accident happens. I studied all the articles and followed their suggestions. I installed the latest version of firefox and still get the same results. I can't even open firefox in safe mode.

Heather, not sure I can help, I'm not a Mac user, but I'll have a look at the crashIDs that you provided.

    Update:

There are very few reports recent crash with this signature, they could even be your plant. If you follow the suggestions in the article I linked above there is not much that can be done easily. You should try discount the possibility that the cause is malware by scanning with several updated tools.

    Malware controls
Have you seen and followed the advice

    Clean reinstall it
If you find no malware, it can be interesting to try a new re - install and a clean profile, none of them are simple and must be done with care, so first try malware scans, those who will take a while to sort.

Rather a last resort: fill out a bug report

If you are ready to try to answer the inevitable questions and have an email account anonymous, that you can use for recording, you can follow the link from the report above and click on 'report' to create a bug report on the crash.

  • XP labors heavily and Will does not start (sometimes even in safe mode.) "And if it starts in the DM, it will freeze when I try to enter to change anything).

I have a XP computer. During use, the power supply cord unplugged and computer is dead. When I tried to restart it, it will go to the blue screen with an error, go to the screen that asks if I want to start in safe mode. It does not start in normal mode, but it does get my wallpaper and stay there. Sometimes Windows XP screen and stay there. It really starts to make a lot of noise when one of these things happens. Don't know what to do. I have a XP OS disk Dell provided with the computer. Any ideas?

Repair the Windows XP installation - you should have all your files intact.

A repair install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used to the repair facility. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will have to be reapplied.

  • RAM installed on the Vista PC, Vista will not start, but switches to Safe Mode?

I work on computers for years on the side and have done my fair share of upgrades of RAM. I went to my boss to Jeanne to update its ram, it has a Vista computer ~ 4 years with 512 MB of RAM, (a stick). I upgraded to 2 GB. There are 2 white and 2 black slots. The 512 was the white slot. I have it pulled and replaced with 2 GB then put the 512 in the dark. It starts and went to the vista loading bar, then the screen went black. Waited a while and put the 512 where he was and then added 2 GB sequentially. Same result. Then I tried the double approach channel. I also tried just the new RAM. Same result. I EVEN tried to put just the an old back in its slot and it STILL would not initialize correctly.

Here's the interesting thing. Safe mode and safe mode with networking mode both start instantly. No problems. Properties system shows 2 gb, rebooted and went into the CMOS and recognizes all the correct RAM in the correct locations.

Now, it should have been a simple exchange and pop so I don't have the computer with me, any suggestions?

I followed the other suggestions and nothing worked, including pulling the battery for 15 seconds.

It is a Dell Dimension E521. I have triple checked the RAM before I bought it.

When I arrived, he had already the computer is off, so I just open it without putting work first. In fact, I ordered the computer home, on this computer on Wednesday of last week. The computer is very slow, but worked

Apparently you do not see where I said I have triple checked the RAM before I bought it. in any case, after 5 hours of trial and error, I was able to make it work

  • I was not able to get on firefox for weeks! It crashes on opening a few seconds. I reinstalled hoping to be updated, but that has not worked. It will not be open even in safe mode. I'm desperate...

all of a sudden a few weeks ago, I can't have on firefox. It crashes immediately on startup every time anything and journalist accident happens. I studied all the articles and followed their suggestions. I installed the latest version of firefox and still get the same results. I can't even open firefox in safe mode. I don't ' know what else to try and really need my favorite browser back and all my favorites and passwords...

Since I exhausted all angles throughout January and early February, I can't really identify what makes the difference, but today... IT WORKS NOW! Firefox has been removed from my computer for a few weeks now, so with renewed determination I searched all single folder on my entire hard drive and found 3 random files with mozilla or any part of the word inside mozilla and erased. I turned off the computer and restarted a few hours later. I downloaded firefox 10 (still higher version than the one I was updating of a month) from google chrome and installed it. so thank you for your comments and help!

  • I can't start firefox even in safe mode.

I can't start firefox. It is said that it can not load the profile. The profile files are there, I believer.
I can't start firefox even in safe mode, by holding down the SHIFT key.
I stopped firefox when he tried to do a refresh (it took a long time).
So there is a record of old data that I copied the default profile folder.

    Hmm, also:

    arlener said

.. There's a data folder I copied the default profile folder.

If you want to use the content of the profile that you copied return, make sure that they don't are not 'nested' a layer down in the profile folder.

  • Cannot start windows Vista in safe mode.

I followed these instructions to start Windows 7 in safe mode:

I tried to start windows vista in safe mode by using the following:

    1. Click on the Windows icon in the left bottom of the screen while Windows is running in normal mode.
    2. Click on the arrow located to the right of the lock at the bottom of the popup menu symbol
    3. Choose "restart".
    4. I restart the computer, press the F8 key and hold.  I tried at the beginning of the sequence to reboot and after that the light appears on the mouse, but still before the windows logo appears.
    5. Restart the computer in normal mode.
    6. I tried the key down and also tried pressing the F8 key several times both giving the same results without success.
    7. To eliminate the possibility of a bad keyboard, I switched from keyboards with the same results.

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

    You tap f8.

You can have a F-Lock key in the upper right corner of your keyboard.

  • Satellite L500 is not working correctly even on Safe Mode

    Hello

I bought a L500 six months ago and now it is almost useless. Trying to operate it by booting normally it is impossible, taking more than 40 minutes just to start. Get any running program or any open window takes several minutes, or not at all.

I tried to restore the computer to an earlier date, but he goes back to two weeks ago and is still faced with the same problems. I checked for bad sectors and not found. I also tried to do a CHKDSK, but finally, it freezes after a few hours during step 4 of 5, in the following file:
    [Users\DANIEL ~ 1\AppData\Local\MICROS ~ 1\Windows\TEMP OR~1\Content.IE5\FIA7RO0V\combo[1]

I can use the computer in Mode safe, most of the time, but when moving information it tends to block or slow down a lot. I've been back up my information and as many times it freezes during the process.

I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials, but it has been disabled. I can t get back, even if I was constantly using USBs change information between computers and no viruses have been detected in the my other computer.

I remember that one of the things that began to work strangely been WMP, VLC, as well as movies recorded on the disk and a few music albums would start freezing after 5 minutes to be played, and then play again for a while and freezing later again.

What do you think is the problem? What is the same, it will be a problem under warranty?

Please let me know what to do!

    Hey Buddy,

    > Does that, it will be a problem under warranty?
It s only covered by the warranty if it s a bad material work but if it s just a driver or software issue it s no guarantee and you have to pay for this service.

In any case, it is difficult to tell what the problem is but theoretically, it might be software related only, and even in safe mode, you have several questions, I would try reinstalling Windows from Toshiba recovery disc. This can restore the original (on the parameters of the box) settings and with these settings, everything should work fine. Then you can make sure that it s no problem software or driver because the recovery image is pretested by Toshiba.

If you still have problems after the installation of recovery contact an ASP!

  • Dell Inspiron will not start up to Windows 7

I can't start my Inspiron desk top to Windows 7.  He makes by Dell and Windows logos, then hangs on the black screen with the arrow cursor.  I tried everything suggested in the troubleshooting articles that I found on this site and elsewhere on the net... except to reinstall Windows 7.  I don't have the drive to make but has a set of recovery disks when I bought the computer.  The computer is unresponsive, either for them or for my Windows 7 repair disk.  This started when I was working on a problem of queue and has resorted to the restoration of the system when nothing else has worked.  When restoration was finished, it was impossible to restart.  The only clues suggested that the problem may be due to 'a recent hardware or software change' and 'required device is inaccessible.  It would seem that the system restore deleted something he should not have, but how I discovered what happens if I can't in my files? The disc of Windows 7 will do everything that my recovery disks could not do?

    Hello Riverbug

    Please write to us.

Please do a power cycle by disconnecting all the connectors, including the power cable. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds and then put in place all the connectors and turn on the machine.

If still the same, stop the system again. Restart and keep listen NFB 12, select diagnostics and let it finish. If the test succeeds, try another HD on the system if available, otherwise try to reinstall the windows from the restore disc, you did.

    Await your response.

  • Satellite L500 will not start - Windows issue?

My nephew is the owner of this laptop 1 year old and asked me for help yesterday.
There's an eggtimer permanent on the mouse cursor and clicking on trackpad or any key does nothing.

I ctrl, alt, del to open, and then select the Task Manager, but then the thing freezes. place then the only solution.
I could not access my computer or start / programs, etc. by clicking on anything does nothing.

I started in safe mode with network and updated & ran several programs - super antispyware, spybot, ccleaner & anti malwarebytes. the latter find stuff but unimportant or whatever it is was reported by none.

It has none of the recovery disks because none was provided. He never made the recovery discs as advised when it is new, so I tried to make a series of discs, but it was impossible to read some files and I had to abort the operation.
I have downloaded and run mechanic system but this found no real problems.

When I try to open my computer, the answer is a long time to come and opens a page of help windows in m/s only. He advises the system restore but there ar no restore points available.

When I tried to launch avg he behaved "very odd" to say the least. I uninstalled that too.

I uninstalled several toolbars and games stuff that my nephew had but for all my efforts, above the situation remains the same. I'm trying to do a windows repair disk and will try that to see if it helps.

I put the disc and restarted with poor results. He asked me to reinstall windows, and I agreed. I then, a long time later had a message saying that the computer has an error unexpectedly., restart to complete the installation.
When I click ok to restart, the message is repeated. I retried several times - same result.

I tried turning on off and powered by pressing f1 through f12 in turn. no difference.
I think I need a new disk (64) of windows 7 or a recovery dvd set of toshiba.

Any thoughts on recovering from a bad situation would be welcome.

    > I think I need a new disk (64) of windows 7 or a recovery dvd set of toshiba.
    > Any thoughts on recovering from a bad situation would be welcome.

Yes, I agree with you at this stage that I would also try to reinstall a new Windows system or Toshiba Recovery disk image
Usually the new OS install helps determine what s wrong here, from my point of view, it looks like the BONE was confusing to and installation of the operating system might solve this problem.

But as you know, it's just a theory. I think that if would not help you with new installation OS (recovery), the next should be a RAM and HARD drive test

    What do you think?

  • Windows xp pro sp3 will not start corrupted boot.ini and hal.dll - please help

I installed Norton 360 offred via internet was last updated.  It immediately launched all applications previously disabled at STARTUP in msconfig.  And shortly after he started to gives me the blue screen "to the death".  This done in two days, and I was desperately trying to solve the problem by turning off almost all applications critical to running Windows XP Pro SP3, Norton and Office 2007 Home and student.  I even went and tried to edit the Boot.ini file in startup and recovery under the Advanced tab in the workstation properties.  Now all I get is an error message Windows cannot start because the hal.dll file is missing or damaged.  I replaced it by copying a modified version of the boot sequence, while the hard drive of my laptop was enslaved to my desktp PC, but nothing helped.  I can't even the Recovery Console to start on my laptop.  I need HELP, please.

These profile errors are usually caused by one of the following:

1-profile corruption.  The user profile is damaged and that Windows cannot load.  To resolve this issue, create a new user profile and move your files to the new profile.   See here for more information:

How to copy data from a corrupted to a new profile in Windows XP user profile

2 drives or corruption of the file system.  Run chkdks /f on the volume C:.  Please note that there is ALWAYS a risk of data loss when chkdsk is run on a volume, ideally, you should have a backup of your files before running chkdsk.

3 - virus or malware activity.  Some of these parasites can revoke your permissions on the folder of your profile, check the permissions on "C:\Documents and Settings\Andre" and make sure you have a full control on the folder.  Check this box until you try #1 or 2 above.

Some of these parasites can also revoke your permissions in key areas of the registry and create real Dany on the machine that can prevent you to run some of your software.  Use Regedit to load your old profile hive (NTUSER. (DAT) in your profile folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Andre\NTUSER. (DAT) and make sure you have full control over the key.  In the advanced security settings to ensure that the child objects are inherit permissions from the parent and put a check mark on "replace entries permissions for all child objects...". "Click on apply and OK your way out.  See here for easy to follow instructions for loading and editing of remote registry hives: http://www.rwin.ch/xp-live/regedit.htm make sure you unload the hive when you're done, otherwise the changes will not be saved.

These parasites can also revoke permission on the other key of registry and system files, you can use SubInACL to restore your permissions on these key objects, see here for more information:
