output ascii 'code' for serial port

Hi all, I don't know it is a simple problem, but I was try and fight the scourge. If all goes well it will take someone smarter than me almost no time at all. I am trying to contact a relay via the serial port (http://www.controlanything.com/Relay/Device/R45PRO ) box. It has a set of simple controls and looks like it should be easy. Unfortunately, the box is awaiting receive a number (an ' ASCII Code' as their described manual) rather than a normal ASCII character. So, if I try to send this "254" is he talking about listening to a command, the write VISA function it sends 50,53,52 or some such. I searched and found a bunch of examples for fixing such problems on the side of the reading, but none of them does not seem to work for me. I'm now resort to try things bothered as the conversion of a number and a Boolean and then to a string table, but is not do me any good either. I also tried just to send a string constant in hexadecimal and just write FE hoping that will get it in the mode of listening... but then I can't understand how to add a \n at the end character. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very pleased them. Thank you, mike

First of all, learn how to do a right click. If you did this on your control station / constant, you would have seen the Hex display and '-' Code display options.

If you wish, you can use a U8 to set a single byte. Use the conversion feature and the output of wire to the entry VISA.

You can use a table of U8, and either the cast or byte array to a string. Flatten it to a string can be used instead the typecast if you wish.

I looks like something is wrong with your installation OR VISA (as MAX does not find ALL ports).  Make sure that NEITHER VISA is activated (sometimes of other kinds of visa in the way), or try reinstalling NI VISA.  Serial number NOR is not necessary since you are not serial ports using OR.

  • Communication Serial Port without a VISA

Is it possible to connect to the serial port without a VISA?

The thing is that the VISA is required to be installed on the deployed machine. It is not for my client.

    Thanks for any help.

You can find driver series placed in Non-VISA:

    http://www.MHST.de/downloads.htm

    Benefits:

    • you need not install DURATION VISA on a deployed machine. Place a dll (dll is included) in the system folder - that's enough.
    • There are several additional features that has no VISA
    • works reliably

    Disadvantages:

    • Works for serial port only
    • uses the WinAPI functions
  • Reading codes ascii serial port and their trace

    Hello

I am trying to build a VI that reads data (ascii values) of the serial port.

I am trying to build a Phonocardiogram wireless. I have a microphone that acquires the heart sounds. These signals is amplified and sent to an A/D converter to digitize it. the digital signal are sent to a base unit. UNTV signals received by the base unit must be sent to a computer (via a serial port to display).

I would like to build a VI to draw ascii data received through the serial port.

I would like to draw these values so that the plot resembles an analog signal (the one I had before an A/D converter).

    Can someone give me help?

    Thanks in advance...

  • Waiting for data on serial port

    Hello everyone.

I'm trying to figure out how I can solve a problem on LabView. I programmed an Arduino board to read and send a data table of the accelerometer on the serial port. I want to LabView to receive the data and graphs it. My problem is that Arduino send data on an ongoing basis and sometimes LabView can not cope with traffic and read some values "0".

Is it possible to wait for the data and solve this problem?

    I joined my current vi.

    Thank you much in advance.

    AndreasSchnaas wrote:

Once again, thank you very much.

Given that you send ASCII characters, change your Arduino code to send a character to end of line (10 byte value) at the end of each transmission.  Your code is already configured to use it.  Then you need not use the bytes to the Port at all.  Suffice to say the VISA of reading to read a large number of bytes.  Playback stops when it finds the stop character (value 10).  Your code will get a lot easier from there.

  • serial port: input/output signal combined suburbs

I am currently using LabView to replace another user for a scientific instrument interface.

LabView is connected to this unit via a serial port.  The instrument spread 25 bytes of binary data from the computer every second.  I can read the binary string (Read VISA) and maintain will cause disc using a while loop.  In addition, there are some instructions I can send to the device that will do various functions (start logging, turn the LED on / off, etc.).  I can send these instructions to the instrument using the previous interface and in a stand-alone vi using VISA Write successfully, but when I place the function Write VISA in the largest interface vi, signals go haywire.  Specifically, there are two separate lights I can alternate with two different commands, but when in the biggest interface vi, the two commands Toggle the LED even.  In addition, it seems that the singal that immediately send to the instrument (a single ASCII character) bounces to the computer in the 25 bytes of binary data streaming.  In other words, after I pressed the LED 'on' the key, a column of my streaming data changes when it's not supposed to (ex: after binary to ASCII conversion, changing a single digit in a 20 digit value).

At first, I thought that the problem was the sequence of read/write VISA.  I read all the data in the current configuration, and then leave for orders writing.  The two VISA functions are in the same loop to continuously monitor the data.  Is it possible the signal output of writing not letting the while loop and being read as input?  What would the instrument two different commands as the same as read?  My goal is to run an interface that displays data in ASCII and allows some options different rocking while that the interface works - there is an elegant/effective way more as a while loop?

  • Signal output data expressed on a serial port

    Hello everyone,

I received a task which requires me to collect several channels in express signal analog voltages before displaying these data to the serial port of the computer. My programming experience is very limited as Im working on the back of the high school before going to College, and even though I have the foundations of basic labview stowed, Im struggling to understand how to approach this problem.

I started looking at the base read the series and write vi provided in the examples and I know how to get labview vi to intergrate with signal on purpose, but because of my lack of knowledge related to the use of channels of communications, binary, hexadecimal and asqui I don't really know where to go from here. The writing and reading of strings for example, I don't understand.

I would like the data are ideally output on the serial port in real time and data are collected continuously at 6 kHz.

I realize that there probably is no simple answer to this question, given my lack of knowledge, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

    Harry

    Hi hcook,

As smercurio_fc said, the strings that you send are totally dependent on what you're talking about. I haven't used a 'box of dspace' before, but a normal serial device will wait to receive specific orders.  Once it receives an order of some, she will perform a certain task.  You are right in saying that you need to establish what string commands to send to the box of dspace.

    I hope this helps.

  • Using the Serial Port for data acquisition Non-Serial

I searched the forums and can't find anything on this topic.

I saw that it was possible to use the parallel port for e/s digital single and I was hoping that the serial port can be configured the same. It seems all VI VISA only to use the serial port to receive ASCII characters at a given flow rate, but is it possible to simply query the status of the line series at my own speed to see if it is high or low, kind of like a single pin DAQ?

It seems that it would be possible until the serial data are read and controlled by labview, not Windows. Let me know if you have ideas of how to approach this problem, or any comment as to why it is not possible.

    Thank you all!

Select the property > settings series > Modem of the line parameters. For example, the State of the CTS is an entry to the pc.

With the help of these lines is a very poor substitute for a scope or map DAQ. The only things you can return is Asserted, Unknown or Unasserted. The range of acceptable signals is important enough. Anything between + 3 and -3 is an unknown state. Your other signals is + / 3 to 15 volts. What type of signals do you really want to capture?

Edit: there is no such thing as a visa so I have no idea of what you actually use.
