Package of Windows XP antivirus recommendations

I use NORTON 360 on my old ThinkPad with Windows XP Pro.
I decided to not upgrade to a later version of Windows because of my 2 GB of RAM.
A technician Micro Center told me that NORTON is a Devourer of resources, which might explain my performance issues.
If this is true, I'm looking for recommendation for a package to replace NORTON 360 antivirus.
My experience with this forum has been very positive.
I look forward to any suggestion.

If you are looking for a FREE XP antivirus:

1) avast http://www.avast.com/index offers a fairly comprehensive, with lots of settings for those who like to tweak everything.   While he still works very skinny, the program got huge (to the point of potentially intimidate new users), and some people have experienced significant problems with it.  [Full details/discussion can be found here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/virus-spyware/f/3522/t/19494267.aspx ]  So, while I myself use and still recommend, I do now with a degree of caution.   Requires Service Pack 3 XP (any edition, 32-bit or 64-bit).

(2) If you want a simpler program - basically, download, "set and forget" - you can go with Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5201 [requires the 'Real' Windows XP Service Pack 3] or Panda Cloud http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/#! / free antivirus download [requires 32-bit XP, Service Pack 2, or 3]

Stress that this will replace the components of Kaspersky ANTI-VIRUS and anti-SPYWARE to Norton 360.   But their free versions do NOT include a firewall (you can use the firewall of Windows XP free/included), and many of its other components 'bells & whistles' that are can be part of a "finished" as Norton 360 product.

If you are looking for a PAID replacement, or a "full range", let us know and someone can answer in this area.

Have you already tried to install an earlier version of the software function button on your system? I think the new version is buggy and if not already a newer version is released, you should have the old version until a new one comes out.

Please check if the old version works, it shouldn´t be a big problem for the single download from the Toshiba driver download site.

As my drivers for Windows XP are not compatible, I'm stuck with vga printed on my TV. :)

    Hi Moon Base 4,

Normally the Vista drivers are compatible with Windows 7 but that s not always done. I think you should test this because it s always according to the version of the driver and your equipment.

All the drivers and tools that you can download here:

If n t work Vista drivers you need to use a preinstalled OS to Toshiba or you are looking for on the pilot sites.

  • 32 bit or 64its windows 7 is recommended for the mac pro?

I have a mac pro OS X Lion 10.7.5 considering to install Windows 7 but do not have 32-bit or 64-bit is recommended? Can someone advise. Thank you

    Hello DreamerChin,

Yes this (bootcamp) allows full access to the processor and other Windows components.  Since you have 8 GB of ram, using the option of bootcamp, it is preferable to obtain the 64-bit edition. If you choose this option, after you bought the disc, start in OSX and spotlight (top-right) of type "Boot camp assistant" within this wizard will help you in setting up the amount of space for Mac OSX and how much space you want for Windows 7. After completion, insert the Windows 7 disc and click ok in the wizard. Once Windows is installed, put in the Mac OSX disk provided with the computer to install Bootcamp for Windows and this will also contain the drivers in order to ensure that everything plays well with Windows / computer.

Ask more questions where we can clarify.

    Thank you

You need an active resident anti-virus software and an active resident antimalware software to complete your profile for security in a decent way.

Install MSN, Ms Fixit, Ms Downloader and CCleaner even not count in these categories.

I suggest a fall: Ms Security, install MSN, Ms Fixit, TrendMicro Anti-spyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ms Downloader, Speccy and Stopzilla.

  • DV6-6190us AMD update package fails. Necessary for recommended MS hotfix

I get a blue screen of death after installing the recommended MS hotfix KB2670838 and using Internet EXPLORER 9. I stopped the problem by uninstalling the patch. Others on the MS for a report of similar problems with computers laptops HP and AMD switchable graphics card. MS advises prevention hot - fix for the moment and is apparently change an option until the issue is resolved.

One user said that he solved the problem by upgrading the AMD drivers to the latest version. I tried that with the HP sp55092.exe install package on the download page of my dv6. Installation fails with the helpful message "Application install: install package failed! The progress screen said it was installing the MS Visual C++ 2010 redistributable runtime. MsiInstaller gives error event 1013 with the text "product: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable - 10.0.30319 64 x ‑‑ A later version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable - 10.0.30319 64 x is already installed."

Installed versions (x 86 & x 64) running on my computer are 10.0.3.40219.  It seems that the package installer on HP support site cannot handle a newer version of the execution. I presume that the reason for the new version on my computer is software that relies on the SP1 version, so downgraded to the old version would just move the problem even if it gets the driver AMD installed package.

Anyone else seeing this? HP updates the installation package? Any ideas?

I shot the most recent version of the C++ 2010 runtime that blocked the Softpaq installation, installation fact and re-updated C++ 2010 runtime to the current version. The Softpaq, Intel and AMD drivers updated to the latest versions (on the site of HP). Then I reinstalled the MS fix and were broadcast for 12 hours, with no more BSODs.Funny thing is that the Softpaq still gave me an error on installation (relating to execution C++ 2010) but this time continued and completed.

I didn't want to steam. I'll look further and maintain the ITI in mind for future updates. It seems that HP is almost through with the software/firmware for the DV6s.

  • any programs, but google chrome opens. not even windows or antivirus programs. must force the restore windows or safe mode.

the title says most of it. I got a virus which, for some reason usually let me open all windows programs or all programs like antivirus things or anything that would be useful at all, but ideally he always allows me to get on google chrome. Ive been reading around to see what is my problem and I can say that I should be good if I can just force a restore or get my computer in SafeMode somehow, but even that does not work. When I restart my computer, even if I press f8 when it is placed in service or f12 at the logo screen to get restart options, it does nothing. I see a way to solve this problem, unless theres another way to get into safe mode or perhaps force a system restore sort.

    Hello

First of all, it is rare that system restore will fix a virus problem. You should focus on access to safe mode to resolve this problem.

Check if you need to hit a function key lock before the F key working in the mode you want. You can also try this, even if the bug can block: click Start and type msconfig, then the . Click on continue in the UAC prompt. Go to the Startup tab, select the line of safeboot and click apply/ok. It should encourage them to restart and will automatically load safe mode.

Once in safe mode, you will want to run full system scans with your favorite antivirus and antispyware software. You can also use malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org) as a method to remove bugs.

  • How to disable permanently packages fixes Windows 10 to settle on windows 7?

Hi, I removed the packages several times and 'hidden' them from Microsoft Update so that they would not be put back up. However, they are automatically added, downloaded and installed, regardless of how many times I do this.

I doubt that anyone would give Microsoft one * on this subject and probably think that if they annoy people enough they'll finally upgrade. I am not amused. Or I will be upgrading to Windows 10. I have a real computer, I don't want a phone operating system. No I don't like that 10 Windows can offer me, spy on me last, security etc. Then please do not use these arguments. I don't want to DWX.exe and other unnecessary running in the background, in order to hide the icon is not a solution.

I just want to stop permanently windows update to reinstall the update of Windows 10 crapware.

    Packets coming back: KB3035583, KB2952664, KB2976978, KB3021917, KB3044374, KB2990214

Someone else has a way to stop, before you completely disable future upgrades of Windows?

P.S. anyone from Microsoft, read this. I find your work here to be deplorable. Just because you have a near-monopoly PC operating systems does not mean that this kind of business practice is acceptable. You're lucky that boycott your products is not possible at this time.
