Pavilion Dv7 extremely slow

The machine has installed Windows 7 Ult, nothing else. It takes 10 seconds to open the Control Panel, 30 seconds to open the system and another 15 seconds to open Device Manager. It is unusable.

CHKDSK finds no error on the disk or system files but disk i/o is 100% under the resource manager and the CPU is at 50% - both when the machine does nothing.

I removed the battery by HP support and pressed the power button but no change. Processes that run range from 29 to 35, only disk i/o and CPU consumption are unusual.

The drive has been formatted and I tried different versions of Windows, nothing works.

Frankly, I take it back to Office Depot and make repair.  It seems to me like there was a little problem when the files have been transferred.  I can tell you to run Win 8.1for more than a year, I don't think that it is hardware related.

Your only other option is to do a system restore to see if that helps.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4150er upgrade complete. Issue of processor and HARD drive

Hello. Sorry for my English. I'm from the Ukraine.

I want to improve my HP Pavilion dv7-4150er and I need advice from experienced people.

    Now, I have:

    -8 GB of RAM (2 x 4 GB),

-1 TB of HDD (5400 RPM)

-stock video (Mobility Radeon hd 5650 graphics card) card overclocked to 700 MHz GPU and 950 MHz Vram.

-CPU (mobile Quad Core Intel Core i7-720QM, 1716 MHz) in stock

    -BIOS F.29

    2 problems:

    -Slow CPU

    -Slow HARD drive

I want to buy a few HARD drives SSD for Windows and secondary soft and left for the data.

Get an increase in the performance of the system?

On the 'Intel' site, I read that my

    Intel® HM55 Express Chipset Mobile

is compatible with the more powerful processors. LINK

    And I have a great opportunity to buy Intel® Core™ i7-940XM processor Extreme Edition (8 M Cache, 2.13 GHz)

    But the laptop manual says:

720QM and 940xm - identical processors. The difference in 'MAX TDP' 45w/55w, 'Cache' 6 mb / 8 mb and clock speed 1.6 GHz/2.13 GHz

The Intel® Core™ i7-940XM processor Extreme Edition (8 M Cache, 2.13) will work properly in my laptop?

    or not?

I have read many articles on this topic, but the answer is not...

And I can't find information on HP F.29 BIOS specification.

How can I increase a CPU nested way (with another compatible processor) perfomance if 940xm is not compatible?

    Help me please.

    Thank you for your time.

Hello nickiblackmore.  I understand that you are curious about the upgrade of your laptop.

Here is a link to Guide of Service and Maintenance of your laptop.  It covers the disassembly of the laptop and can also show you how to replace parts if you upgrade the.

If you switch to a Solid State Drive of a standard 5400 or 7200 RPM hard drive, you should see a significant performance increase.  This is because a normal hard drive spinning platters and it takes time to locate data on the trays as they are moving.  A Solid State Drive has no moving parts and therefor can locate data much more quickly.

A CPU upgrade is a much more difficult question.  HP does not recommend that you perform this type of upgrade.  Laptops are generally designed with specific thermal and electrical needs.  If you change the CPU, it will probably create more heat and use a higher power that will cause you problems.  However, if you stick to a processor that is listed in the service (for example in your picture) Guide, you should be fine.  For example, you can choose one of the microprocessors found in the image to upgrade your laptop.  Also, keep in mind that the integral part upgrade as a CPU can affect your warranty (check your warranty here).

If you think that answers your question be sure to mark the post as solved.  This makes it easier for others to find answers to their questions.

    Have a great day!

  • Pavilion DV7-3165DX, Atheros AR9285 WiFi adapter, communication and incompatibility issues

After much research, I decided to buy a Pavilion DV7-3065DX. Then, I walked to my local Best Buy to say the 3065DX had been abandoned and was no longer available for purchase. However, the 3165DX, his successor had arrived and was very similar to the previous generation. After a brief discussion to justify the increase of prices with myself, I gave and was sold.

Within hours, I was in College, trying to connect to the WiFi network without success. After several hours becoming more and more frustrated, I decided to call it closes unexpectedly. Rushing home after class, I plugged the new Linksys WRT160N, I had also bought wireless router and configured on my desk. Once completed, I tried to connect using the new Pavilion. To my surprise, it worked! (And no problem whatsoever no less). So, apparently, the wireless adapter works, but does so only on some networks.

A week later, I tried to connect to a number of public and private WiFi networks of different types with limited success. Most importantly, I am able to connect to my home network, but not to the public networks in my college or city libraries. At one point, the Office for my college indicated that my WiFi adapter is one of a handful of cards on the list of incompatible devices to their network. As it was to buy the laptop in the first place, I am extremely frustrated.

I turned to the support pages of HP for a solution. I considered a update driver despite the use of the HP Wizard to keep abreast on all software downloads and updates. To my dismay, product for the Pavilion DV7-3165DX page lists of Broadcom WiFi adapter, which does not correspond to my hardware (Atheros AR9285). What's worse, is that the manufacturer's website offers no driver downloads to customers that its site is adapted directly to product manufacturers.

At this point, I'm increased and not sure what to do. I am already attached to this laptop. Apart from the war with his fingerprints on its black and shiny chrome surfaces shiny, the problem with the Atheros WiFi card is the only problem that I had. I hate having to go through the ordeal to return, and I do not think that this problem requires the sending of the product to HP for repair. Furthermore, I believe that if it came down to one of those, I simply return the product and find my way to another product by other manufacturers in total.

This certainly isn't the experience I had hoped with my first purchase of HP.

    Any suggestions?

I have the same question... However with me the solution wasn't in the pilot. I spent 3 hours on the phone with technical support, try to understand.

What it comes down to say that Atheros AR 9285 is a shi * ty wireless card. It supports 802.11n Protocol, but only 2.4 GHz (the same as the b/g frequencies). My Cysco wireless router was broadcasting 5 GHz Wireless-N and AR 9285 was not able to detect it. Once I changed the router settings to allow 2.4 GHz Wireless-N Networking, the Atheros card was able to connect under the Protocol N. However, the maximum speeds of 2.4 GHz card are slower than 5 GHz card.

I wish they would give an option to choose what wireless card to install in my laptop. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I'm always done what they me screwed on.

I don't think I can get on my hard drive they screw appeared to be hitting something I can get loose but not outside.

AY info would be great thank you

Extremely difficult to boot Windows XP from a disk usb external hard and will be extremely slow to use. Instructions to link here , but it seems to be down at the moment.

Impossible for Vista or Windows 7 that I know.

Screws for the cover of the hard drive come all the way, they stay with the cover, after loosening them that coverage will pop out.

  • Pavilion dv7-6c01ea loses random Wi-FI.

    Hi all

before you begin, please note I'm not an advanced user, and I will try to provide as much information as I know.

I bought a new laptop in Pavilion dv7-6c01ea 3 days ago, and I have problems with my wifi connection. The day of the purchase, that it worked perfectly - despite its slowness on my old laptop connection, using the connection together 30 mb/s and worked without any problems.

The second day, I activated the pre installed Norton Internet Security, and (I assume) very short time after the wifi simply disconnected. I tried to re - connect, however it would give me the message "Windows only could not connect to virginmedia. On troubleshooting, I'd always get the message asking me to reboot the router - I've done several times, without any result. More troubleshooting, it seems that there was a problem with the access point.

I read on the forums that it could be lack of Norton and removed using the Norton removal tool. Unfortunately, this has not helped.

What will happen is, it disconnects, I plug it via the ethernet cable, and then restart the wireless connection, and it works. However, I found that, after having moved the computer laptop back in my room (the router is in the living room, close my bedroom wall), the connection would drop.

What happened then was that the connection actually slept, but started randomly turning off, then come back randomly as well. I tried this solution http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01887303 under the 'static IP used instead of the dynamic IP address' as suggested by another post on the forum, but I found that the obtain an IPv6 address automatically etc. were already selected.

I also tried manually configure a new connection for a few times, but that did not help either. I tried to update the wifi drivers and received information that they are up-to-date.

Rather than the first day of its use during the connection would display 5 bars, now it's 4 or 2, sometimes up to 5. The download speed is still fast enough.

I would be extremely grateful for any help provided because it is very frustrating, especially on a brand new laptop. Please let me know if you need additional information. Thank you.

    Hello

I guess maybe it's a hardware problem with the WLAN device, so my best advice, considering that you only had the laptop 3 days, would be to return it to the retailer you bought it and get the machine replaced - by looking at the model number of your machine, I'm guessing that you live in England (so do) and if this is the case You can usually return a machine and be replaced in the first 28 days.

    Kind regards

  • Pavilion dv7-6b76eo: upgrade of RAM HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo

I created a thread really well here and received great help from @Paul_Tikkanen so if he or someone else could help me, that would be great. Don't know why I can't post a reply in this thread again. They either closed the thread or I'm blind. In any case, I have the HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo and plan an upgrade of RAM. Currently I have samsung 2 x 4 Go PC3-10600 / DDR3-1333.

    1. I think go to ddr4, but what keeps me is some threads I have read saying ddr4 won't even in good physical shape in a ddr3 slot (which is my current) as well as this piece of info from Wikipedia:

DDR4 SO-DIMM have 260 pines (instead of 204 pin DDR3), which are evenly spaced more close (0.5, rather than 0.6 mm) and are 2.0 mm wider (69.6 against 67.6 mm), but still the same 30 mm in height.

    Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR4_SDRAM

    • 204-pin SO-DIMM (DDR3) have a single notch closest in the center than at 200-pin SO-DIMM.
    • 260-pin SO-DIMM (DDR4), 69.6 mm (2,74 in.) wide and 30 mm (1.2 inches) in height, making it wider than the DDR3 SO-DIMM, with one notch after pin 2 mm 144 (0,079 in.).

    Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO-DIMM

This means that a chip of RAM SODIMM ddr4 wouldn't even in good physical shape in the slot of my laptop?

    2. well, okay... If I have to make my peace with her and stay with DDR3 can I at LEAST faster DDR3 install i.e. PC3-17000 / DDR3-2133 because my current a PC3-10600 / DDR3-1333 is sorta slow sometimes?

Thanks in advance and would really appreciate an answer to the question 1 and 2 above!

    @nematsvehclav

  • Pavilion dv7 E: abbreviated DST has no hard drive 1

My PC starts, but after a few minutes becomes extremely slow. The memory test was OK, but abbreviated failed DST pointing Hard Disk 1 if an error occurs. Failure ID: 9LNGGF-5K77S6-MFH14J-60QV03

I have 2 HDD, each with 750Go and it seems that disk 1 is a failure.

    (1) how can I remove the disc 1, which seems to be the MAIN (System) drive and continue to use only disc 2? or

    (2) if I need to buy new HARD drive to replace the failed disk 1, please advise that you buy and please provide detailed replacement procedure, to keep my data and OS.

Initially, my PC was purchased with Windows 7, but I recently ugraded to Windows 10.

    Thanks in advance!

See page 56 of the manual here:

    Dv7-6000 series manual

Since you have 2 hard drives, you have a built-in spare part but you will have to swap positions that only the hard drive in the Bay of primary is bootable and can be the operating system disk. If you have data on the secondary drive, you must store it somewhere if you want to keep it. Because you can always boot from the primary drive, I would say that your data is safe on this subject, but you want to stop using it as soon as possible. You try to use the wrong disc you will have problems. If your laptop computer has been upgraded for Windows 10 and it shows "activated" in the information system, you can reinstall Windows 10 as a clean install and it will show as "responsive" when you connect to the internet. You can use the media Windows 10 tool to do a full installation disc Windows 10.

    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/Windows-10-media-creation-tool-create-installation-media-upgrade

You can also see this as a sign that it is time for one SSD drive. Tomorrow being Cyber Monday you will find the best opportunities out there on the semiconductor readers right now.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16820228135

This is just one example; a concert of 240 for $55. If it were my laptop I installed an SSD in the Bay of primary and run Windows from it. Normally, I would advise that you can clone the old drive to a new drive, but with errors on the old disk, it would not be a good idea to try to clone. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 Driver questions

My mother's cell phone, a Pavilion dv7-4273, began to display an error in the boot and screen several times during normal use which was not his hard drive. Naturally, like any other time it happened for me or someone else, I bought a suitable hard drive and install a new copy of Windows 7 (unfortunately, everything I have right now is 32-bit). In any case, not exclusive to the computer worked (keys function, internet, ect), so the pilots were the next step.

    This is my problem.

While most of the drivers have been downloaded and installed with ease (via another computer with a flash drive), more important don't seem to not work at all. When I try to install the driver wireless for internet, it just getting started, even before that I get a window that says something along the lines of "Windows has detected that this software has not been installed properly," and I can select 'Reinstall using recommended settings' or "this program is installed correctly." None of these options work and I am still unable to connect to the internet. I need this to be fixed as soon as POSSIBLE; We are now on an extremely tight schedule.

The other thing is the function keys. This I don't understand quite as well. It starts and installs, but there is no window that confirms the installation (IE a button 'Finish' or a 'driver installed successfully"), and the FN keys still don't work. It's not as big of a deal, but it would be nice to get that back on track also.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you install the drivers and to check that they have installed, and then open Device Manager.

Any device that does not have a good driver installed, will have a yellow exclamation mark next to it.

Once the correct driver for the device is installed, tell tale yellow exclamation beside her point will disappear in real-time. This will be your 'Finish' button or a notice "driver installed successfully."

The Fn keys are a BIOS setting.  Enter the BIOS (power, immediately tap the Esc key--> start menu--> choose F10 for BIOS configuration) and check the keys for defining Action.

The following image shows how the device manager should look like when all the required drivers are installed.

Use the system diagnostics in the BIOS to determine the State of the hard drive.

In your announcement of the name of the product of the laptop, you left out the last two characters. It should be instead of 4273 dv7 dv7-4273us?

If you want to see dv7-4273us then your wireless adapter will be one of the two that I mentioned in the following image.

If you are uncomfortable not knowing exactly which adapter is installed, then you can right click on the network device that does not have a driver installed, select Properties, use the drop-down arrow to select the hardware ID and post the PCI\VEN as in the following image. I or another expert checks the database and you know that is installed in your laptop.

    Best regards

  • HP Pavilion dv7 not recognizing their 'new' capacity of 750 GB HARD drive.

    I have a model of HP Pavilion dv7 - 2173cl with:

    1. Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 CPU processor.
    2. Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit (factory installed Vista update) OS.
    3. 2048 MB is memory.

'SMART' HARD drive imminent failure message received:

    1. Original disc installed HARD is a 500 GB Western Digital model WD5000DBEVT.
    2. SMART two weeks' ago error messages indicating imminent failure of HDD appeared.
    3. A check of the HP Web site checked the error number corresponds to "imminent HARD drive failure.
    4. The message prompted me to 'save' the HARD drive.
    5. I completed a backup of files and an image via the "Backup and Restore" feature backup of Windows 7.
    6. The backup has been to an external Seagate 1 TB USB connected external HARD disk
    7. In addition, I created a 'Windows 7 64 bit system repair disc' using the backup and restore of Windows 7 feature.

    Replacement HARD drive:

    1. I bought a 750 GB (7200 RPM) Western Digital model WD75000BPKX.
    2. When formatting the HARD disk (via the CD of 'Windows 7 64 bit system repair disc') replacement I observed the formatting of the process that the size of the disc HARD has been reported that 500 GB (compared to the actual size of 750 GB).
    3. With the help of the rollback on the CD "repair" feature I restored it (backup on external USB connected HDD image) image.
    4. Later, I check the 'properties' from the 'device' (the new HDD of 750 GB and observed that Windows 7 also pointed out this new HARD drive as a 500 GB drive (compared to a 750 GB drive).

    Site HP Web search:

    1. A search in the Web of HP SP5575, referred to as software download site and 'run' to identify a 'Advanced Format hard drive.
    2. A downloaded execution of and run this software has given rise to the audit that the 'new' Western Digital model WD75000BPKX is an 'Advanced Format Hard Drive.
    3. The site also shows to support a 'Advanced Format hard drive' the "device driver" must be at least version 9.6.01014 Rev: has (the current version is 6.1.7600.16385).
    4. The SP50624 Web site, referred to as software to download and 'run' to update the disk device driver (found in Control Panel/Device Manager/disk drives/Driver/updated updated driver for Windows 7).
    5. I have downloaded and run SP50624 and as a guest 'Update Driver' selected in the Control Panel/Device Manager/disk/disk driver and also "indicated the location where the new driver after 'running' SP50624.
    6. Windows has responded with "the driver is up to date" and selected version 6.1.7600.16385 driver (i.e., would not version 9.6.01014 Rev: A).
    7. The software (e.g., Windows) running on the 'new' unacceptable short slow disk. It is a symptom commonly identified when a disk with 'Advanced Format' works without the drivers appropriate and formatting.

    Issues and options:

    1. Is there a solution that will allow the model of HP Pavilion dv7 - 2173cl to use this 'new HARD drive (a compatible disc HARD driver update that will install or another available solution that will accommodate a HARD drive to Format advanced such as the 750 GB (7200 RPM) Western Digital model WD75000BPKX)?
    2. Or is my only solution regarding the HP Pavilion model dv7 - 2173 cl to buy a 500 GB HDD without 'Advanced Format '?
    3. And finally buy a vintage/new laptop today.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Problem solved.

I solved the problem as follows:

    1. I chose to reload Windows 7 from "scratch" after your positive validation of this approach.
    2. This required me to reload all applications (for example, Microsoft Office).
    3. Note: A reload of the OS and Applications from "scratch" requires access to the "Product Key".
    4. During the initial charging of Windows 7 and the formatting of the 'new' drive Windows 7 provided the possibility to remove the partitions (remove/reorder) that had been affected by the recovery process 'attempt' described above. With the help of this function I eliminated the partitions and 'Add' the "unallocated" space to the overall capacity of 750 GB HARD drive.
    5. After reloading the OS, I checked via 'Properties' that all of the 750Go were present and available - success.

    Thank you for your support.
