  • How can I check if the AHCI is enabled on my Pavilion dv7 1199ed?

    Hi all

I recently bought a new SSD (Samsung 830 128 GB) to replace one of the two HARD drives containing faulty sectors. To use the TRIM, I need the SATA controller that AHCI enabled. How I check that? BIOS is unfortunately limited.

If AHCI is not enabled, how can I activate it?

Some data: Pavilion dv7 1199ed (I have no product number, because I'm sending you this issue of my work (don't tell my boss), my laptop is at home), using triple boot Vista, Ubuntu 12.04 (both on the HARD drive) and Debian Wheezy (freshly installed on the SSD).

    Thank you!

  • AHCI mode default endabled?

    The system is a Pavilion dv7 4285dx.

I just wanted to get possible confirmation that the AHCI mode is active by default for this model of laptop?

Unfortunately, there is no option for this in the BIOS (matter of fact, there's really not a lot of options for what IN the BIOS).  After Googling autour, I found more people want to DISABLE AHCI mode rather than ENABLE.  In my case I wanted to make sure AHCI MODE, as I swapped the windows for one SSD and files on the standard HARD drive.

    Thank you

This is the original factory specifications for your HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx Entertainment Notebook computer. Later model HP portable computers ship with Windows Vista or Windows 7 came with the set of default RAID or SATA AHCI controller. This is probably the case with your computer.

In general, the only time where you can put the SATA controller in IDE mode is if you install Windows XP as AHCI is not supported under XP by default.

Hi im trying to install OSx86 on my new laptop Satellite P200D-139 I bought this week.
I need SATA AHCI mode value. All other pc, I used, I was able to do it in the bios but with this laptop, the bios is so cut off from the option isn't there.
Does anyone know how to enable AHCI mode so I can get OSx86 to start.

    Thank you
    Mark

If I'm not mistaken, you get the famous message "still waiting for root device", right?
Well, I really do not have much experience in the Mac OS, but it appears because of SATA drives and Yes, you're right, AHCI mode works for most of the laptops or desktop computers.

I think there is no way to activate this option. But you may find help looking for some instructions on osx86project in google.

  • The card mother MS-7184 (AmethystM) in my old HP PC takes in AHCI mode?

First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my post!

I recently bought an OCZ Aligity 4 256 GB SSD drive. I want to use the SSD as drive replacing the original hard drive in my old HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7334n desktop PC. Here is the link to my pc:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&LC=en&DLC=en&product=1821850

I know that the motherboard identified on the Web site above for this model of PC is A8AE-(AmberineM), but the motherboard I have is MS-7184 (AmethystM), the specifications of the motherboard is here:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00378480

I updated the BIOS with the latest version (3.47, 03/03/2006) I can found on the HP website. In the BIOS, I can't find any info on the AHCI support. My questions are:

1 - is the card mother MS-7184 (AmethystM) in my old HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7334n Desktop PC support AHCI mode?

    2. how to configure CMOS when I use the SSD as my main drive on the old HP computer?

    Thank you!

    You are the very welcome.

I leave these settings at their default values.

You have the SSD connected to sata port, and it must operate to the maximum 150 Mbps transfer speed, 133 or 100 no matter what readings are displayed, as would an IDE drive.

The problem is that since there is no AHCI setting, the drive cannot enjoy the native command files or TOPPING.

Aside from that, an SSD should be better that a standard SATA I mechanical drive or IDE hard drive.

Even subjectively, you should 'see' a difference in sensitivity of disc, not you?

Improved time, faster startup time for research, for example.

  • Pavilion s3505f: AHCI on Pavilion s3505f

    Hello

I just replaced the hard drive on my s3505f of Pavilion with an SSD and wanted to activate the AHCI on the computer.  I wasn't able to find a reference on the SATA mode in the BIOS of the PC (Phoenix - AwardBIOS r. 5.23).  Have not been able to find definitive information on the SATA ports to the motherboard Irvine for the PC, but I suspect they are SATA 1 (1.5 Gb/s) instead of SATA 2 (3 Gb/s with the AHCI support).  Transfer rates by an average of 110 MB/s in non-AHCI mode.

I am aware that the AHCI drivers must be enabled in Vista before a change of SATA to AHCI mode in the BIOS.

No confirmation on the types of port SATA card mother Irvine would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    You are the very welcome.

Yes, AHCI is a subset of RAID in some respect, but not to an SSD work better on a model as old as yours.

The only time where RAID is as good as that AHCI is if you have a PC with an Intel Series 7 or more recent chipset, which has SSD trim support RAID if you can't change the settings from AHCI storage controller, and you have installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology technology for this chipset driver.

The only thing RAID will do to your PC would be to allow for native command queuing, which is ideal for a mechanical hard drive, but a litle on an SSD, since there are no moving parts in SSD.

Here's the only native made command queues...

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_Command_Queuing

Motherboards are made to HP requirements by the MFR of motherboard.

If there is no setting in the BIOS to change the setting of the drive controller, then I doubt that it will be possible to do - even with a BIOS update.

  • Cannot change SATA RAID in AHCI mode in the BIOS.

Hi, I use Pavilion p6142p Desktop, WIN7, a harddsik.  The SATA BIOS has been set to RAID by the default value of the factory.

I put two new hard drive in this office, they have different sizes and different rpm speed, I don't want their RAID.  So I tried switch the BIOS SATA AHCI mode, so I can't start the win7, win7 gave me two choices: repair or return, repair is not too.  After I change the BIOS, everything is OK.

But I have to put all three harddisk in this office. So my question is:

I use RAID in this PC?

Do I have to re - install win7?

    ....

In any case, what should I do?  Thank you.

    d1ad1a,

RAID will work with unlike devices.  You can always install your new discs and give it a go.

It seems that the ugly way is going to be your only for the ACHI mode to work. Alternatively, just live with what you have.

    Hello

I have a Toshiba NB300 netbook, running Windows 8 Pro 32 bit, very happy with it!
I have a Corsair 3 112 GB Force SSD drive is installed, and everything seems to work fine!

Read on the SSDS, I see that a better performance for executing the SSD in AHCI mode.
So I went to menu configuration of startup and changed compatibility in AHCI mode.
I actually tried a few times, always with the same result, failure!

When the system is trying to start I get a message saying that there was a problem and that
the system is trying to gather information.

The only solution is to go back in the program installation and handed to the compatibility mode.

The BIOS is up to date, and I just don't see any way to solve the problem.
I really want to get best performance with this net book as possible.
I have a screenshot of the details of Speccy SSD drive, but I don't see a way of fixing?

Unfortunately on this forum we don t have reports on the use of the DSS on NBs I have NB520 and I would use the SSD for, but so far I didn't find the right.

As far as I know by default BIOS is set to AHCI mode. What operating system you have installed? The original that you got with your laptop or your own version? Have you installed the s Intel Storage Manager of the Toshiba download page?

    Hello.

XP and Seven is installed in dual-boot on my laptop and I use EasyBCD to choose which system I want to start.

To start XP, I need to enable "Compatibility" (Controller SATA in BIOS mode) and seven is "AHCI" must be activated.

Is there a way for my two OS was started without making changes in the bios?
Y at - it an update to correct this problem (or alternative)?

    Thank you in advance.

Yes you can do it but I'm afraid, you must reinstall Windows XP Home edition m.
Why? Because before beginning to install Windows XP Home edition, you must change it to AHCI mode, launch the installation of Windows XP Home edition and before you start you need to load the SATA driver (via F6 I think).

  • Why the AHCI mode is disabled in some models of Satellite P200/205?

    Hello.

My laptop model is Toshiba Satellite P205-S6277 (PSPBGU-00W016B). Chipset Intel 945 PM Express, Intel 82801 GBM (ICH7-M).

According to the information of the intel.com my laptop processor / chipset are fully compatible with the AHCI mode. But my SATA controller works in IDE compatibility mode and there is no way to enable AHCI SATA mode in the BIOS.

So I have two questions correlated.

    1. why this AHCI mode is completely disabled by the BIOS? Is it possible to activate this mode in future versions of BIOS?

2 If this mode is completely disabled by the BIOS in the models of laptop of all PSPBG and PSPB0 then why Intel Matrix Storage Manager (driver that improves the functionality of the AHCI mode) is available at downloads driver recommended for these series of laptop on sites European Canadians, Toshiba and even specially for my Toshiba laptop model on the site?

I already posted the same question to the site we Toshiba but unanswered for a month.
Maybe there is someone who is able to answer this question?

    >.. There is no way to enable AHCI SATA mode in the BIOS.
How you tried to activate it exactly?
I have Satellite P200 and the two modes are available. I have model laptop but can not imagine that the AMERICAN models, or models even Canadian work on a different path and BIOS must be the same.

Toshiba service best place where you should ask for help. Call them and ask for explanations. If you are right and the AHCI mode is unavailable, they know why.
Over the past 3 years I have worked with 4 different laptop models and all have absolutely identical SATA settings.

  • Satellite L300D-11V: can I run SSD in AHCI mode?

    Hello

    I just installed a SSD and Win7 64 bit on a laptop L300D-11V.

Anyone know if it is possible to run in AHCI mode as I don't see the option in the BIOS?

I saw there is a BIOS update but if it is not updated to enable the AHCI I would rather not bother...

    Hello

I assume that it should be possible to use the SSD with AHCI mode.

The AHCI means that the SSD or HARD disk would go with SATA performance but for that you need to install the SATA driver first.
If SATA is set in compatible mode, then a SATA driver is not necessary to install the Windows operating system.
    Simply said;
-n t need SATA drivers in compatibility mode
-you need SATA drivers in AHCI mode

The SATA drivers are part of the Intel Storage Manager and you can download this European driver of Toshiba or Intel page
