Portege 3500 Tablet OS restore

I need to restore the operating system on my Portege 3500 Tablet PC. I tried to install service pack 2 which just hung the system and now I can't restore to an earlier date or install/uninstall anything of any value.

I have the product Recovery CD ROM and a Targus CD/DVD drive external usb, but I can't boot from the CD in the disc by pressing the C at startup or F12.

I notice in response to another similar question that recovery should be PCMCIA CD ROM drive I didn't hesitate to buy one just to recover the operating system

Can someone advise please you any way I can recover my OS

Hello

I suppose you have no FDD so. In your case, it is not easy to install the OS by using the recovery CD. Believe me, until you spend a lot of time and money partner contact if there is one in your city, and they can install the operating system for you. I'm sure it will be done in 20 minutes and does not cost a lot of money.

Good bye

    Hello

I found a very interesting document of the FAQ on the Toshiba site:
Procedure of product recovery and Bootdisk (FD) for the Portege 3500 Series.
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB6101CA000ER02.htm

It should help you get started on the PCMCIA drive.

In any case, this theme has been discussed a lot of time here in the forum.

  • Portege 3500 - problems pcmcia

    Hello
I bought a reader of external cd for my portege 3500.
This is the original toshiba drive (connectet via a pcmcia 32-bit card and bootable)
I run WindowsXP Tablett Edition on the tablet.

When I plug the device in the slot pcmcia, nothing happens. (Windows Device Manager indicates also nothing new)
Should I have all the drivers to use pcmcia devices or do I have to change something in the bios?

The reader is 100% working, I tested it with another laptop.

    Hope you can help me
    Leon

Look in the BIOS for a setting that allows you to switch between <->CardBus PCMCIA mode.

Ensure that the slots are running ok in Device Manager.

You have another PCCard you can test in the laptop?

It is possible that the pins inside the PCMCIA slot can be bent or broken. Look in the slot with a torch and make sure that all the stems are straight.

  • Portege 3500 - change HARD drive and deal with overheating CPU

I recently bought a Portege 3500 without any support of discs etc. It doesn't have a CD or a floppy disk. It has 2 problems, I want to trouble.
    (a) HARD drive is obviously out because it is by clicking on me, and it presents a permanent red section during defragmentation.
    (b) the fans are at full power all the time, and the CPU is running slowly.

    (a) I had a new HARD drive that I reformatted on other laptops. I put a base Windows XP on this HARD drive and uploaded on my external that I attach to the Portege. I used "transfer... Assistant "to transfer files, folders, and settings to the new HARD drive but I don't know how to install the old Windows XP OS Tablet it." I have the product key of Microsoft for the operating system. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    (b) I believe that the transfer of heat from the CPU on the radiator is a failure, causing the processor to hot and therefore slows down. I already solved the same problem with a Dell by coating the top of the CPU with Artic Silver 5 paste. I cannot, however to get the CPU in the same Portege so I removed all the screws down. Does anyone know how to split the case without causing damage?

    Hello

    (a) Unfortunately, but I don t really know how you want to install the operating system without using the recovery CD or the windows CD.
I searched a bit in this forum and found these messages on the installation of the OS on the Portege 3500:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=5926
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=15336&MessageID=55939

    See also this FAQ:
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB6101CA000ER02.htm

    (b) on the Portégé, you should find the power saver utility. This utility allows you to change the different modes of cooling and processing speed.
In my opinion, you should also check if the fans are clean. Especially the dust and debris inside of the laptop is responsible for cooling not properly of the CPU and other parts.

But if you want to know how to remove the covers so I would recommend checking this site. Maybe you'll find something useful.

  • Question about the Installation of Windows XP on Portege 3500 home

I have a second hand Portege 3500 with WXP tablet 2005 Server Pack 2 market version, but without the original disks. However, recently had a virus that did something to Prime the area on the hard disk. I have removed the virus but now get unexpected core dumps memory and system restarts when you try to connect to the internet.

Question: can I go down a level and safely install ordinary WXP software to work around the problem or the acquisition of new version of WXP Tablet and reinstall the software to circumvent the problem of core dump?

Installation of an operating system on this laptop, it's the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. Once start you, you will notice that there is no device boot attached to this pc. To install windows, yourself, the only options are to buy the cdrom drive for this laptop toshiba external or install via a network.

The toshiba cdrom drive is now quite obsolete, more expensive and the external device only that the laptop starts from (I tried with the other external cdroms, DVDs, disks usb keys and hard). It seems extremely difficult to boot from lan unless you already manage it infrastructure of the company. It is possible in theory, but after 3 weeks I still hadn't thought about her.

My solution at the end of the day was to send it to my local toshiba support center and ask them to re - install for me (he happened to have one in stock toshiba cdrom burners). I got the installation cd, so I guess you will need get these images from toshiba as well (or buy another os).

    Good luck!

The process seems to be okay, I chose wlags48.inf, several copied files, BUT in the end, I get the message
An error occurred during the installation of this device
    Access is denied

I can go back to the old driver tbhe without problem

I tried to disable the adapter and even turn it off with the switch

I tried to do the upgrade mode safe

    Anyone has any suggestions please?

    Steve

    Hello Steve

I'm really skeptical about WPA security, but maybe you can relate more after installing the driver successfully. Download driver driver and extract it to the new folder created somewhere on the desktop. When you start the driver installation please choose the advanced option and navigate in that order.

As far as I know you should not choose anything just browse in the right folder. Please try again.

  • Installation of WXP on Portege 3500

It is a question of a person can suffer idiots like me!
A friend gave me a Portege 3500 without a HARD drive.
I have one but have no manual. Looked on the Toshiba site but does not tell me how to access BIOS which is obviously a problem.

3500 has no floppy or the HARD disk drive if the 3500 will recognize the external USB drive with disk to install XP in it? (if I can change the boot sequence?
Do I need to burn discs of startuop XP and buy a floppy drive?
I would be grateful if someone who can take me through the steps to get this up and running. I have a PC to burn aging if necessary.

    Thank you very much,.
    Martin to the: [email protected]

    Hello

The fact is that not all external CD/DVD drives are supported for the start.
You need an individual. As far as I know the compatible is a PX1055E-1NST.
But this device only comes with a 32-bit cardbus card. This card will be recognized only in the Windows operating system.
You need a 16-bit cardbus card. The Bios can recognize this card and you can boot from the external drive.

Note: The pc card controller option must be set to automatic selection or CCIP compatible.

  • Portege 3500 - common module installation does not work

I have a Portege 3500, I downloaded the good common module for this model I decompress a common model, click setup.exe and nothing is happen

I think Kouros with hourglass and nothing no configuration.

    Hello

I checked the page European of Toshiba and found protégé 3500 common Modules for deposited XP edition version 5.04.00TE

All must be downloaded first, then extract it and then run the setup.exe file.

In many cases you won't see anything on the screen because the complete procedure of installation is running in the background.
However, I recommend to download again, unzip properly, and then repeat the installation.
