Does anyone know why Portege R30-A-1CP was interrupted? Is this due to a defective part/construction?
Thank you

    Hello

I have a laptop Portege R30-A-137 with Windows 8 is installed and that you should remove w8 and install Windows 7.
According to the documentation, the computer has a preinstalled version of Windows 7, but I Don t know how to install it.

I only have windows restore discs 8.
Recording of operating system pre-installed on usb and boot the computer with him, only to reinstall win 8.

Is it possible to install windows preinstalled 7 on this computer?

    Thanks in advance.

I guess you mixed up of some important facts:
Laptop Portege R30-A-137 is pre-installed Win 7 64 bit professional. You don't need t install this new OS if its installed!
8.1 Pro DVD extra Win came with the laptop.

Win 7 64 bit is installed, but there is NO disk/medium.
That is why it s recommended to create the Toshiba Recovery disk using the software creator recovery media Toshiba preinstalled.
This recovery disk can be used in case you have changed the system for example to win 8.1 and want to come back to Win 7.

Has been mentioned in the user manual!

    I have a Portege R30 R30 - A - A - 121
the monitor of the laptop is still too dark to be read correctly.
If I plug in an external display, I can very well read.
If I press fn + f7 or fn + f6 nothing changes on a level of illumination, but if I press fn + f5 switches it monitors correctly.
How to set the brightness of the screen internal maximum?
    Possibly from BIOS and permanently?
    Thank you.

If the Fn + F6/F7 keys do not work, this means that you need to install Toshiba Value added Package (Win7) or system of Toshiba driver + settings (Win8/10).

    Can someone help me?
    Thank you.

It seems that Toshiba does not webcam unique request for this device... the webcam driver should be part of the VAP (value added package)

But the webcam is listed in Device Manager?

  • Portege R30 does not SSD start after upgrade SSD and HDD

    Hello

I have improved my Portege R30 - A to add a second SSD (Crucial M550) replace the optical with the new SSD drive with caddy.

But now the system does not start automatically from the original SSD.

I could press F12 while turning on my laptop and make it appear the start guide. Here I can see my original SSD and I can boot from it properly.

In order to boot in the BIOS, I see only the HDD/SSD, USB, ODD memory... It doesn't gives me the possibility to choose between SSDS.

In any case when I boot in this way than getting blue screens after awhile in win7.

I tried to install a HARD drive as the second drive instead os SSD and her resut is the same.

Is that what I can do to solve this, now I have to use the second drive as an external USB drive.

    Thank you

    Hello

This ODD of SSD/HDD replacement is not always possible and in many cases, the BIOS will not handle and will not recognize the new HARD disk correctly.

That I can remember some old laptops Toshiba Tecra and Portege that supported the functionality of Slim Select Bay were able to manage the 2nd HARD drive instead of driving WEIRD, but this was not possible due to the available selection slim Bay.

In your case it looks like the laptop so that the BIOS does not support this function and, therefore, the additional SSD/HDD isn't recognised correctly.

  • Portege R30-A-196 don't go off, blocks

I bought a Toshiba Portege R30-A-196 1 months ago. The early exhibits the same problem.

Sometimes, when I stopped presents the Toshiba screen saver, "shut down" message and blocks. If I wait an hour has not closed.
Sometimes, in mode hibernation, don't not resart.

After talking with Toshiba, I installed softwere of the factory and the problem persists.

Seems to be a hardware problem. What should I do?

    Hello

I assume you are using Win 7.

This issue appears from time to time on my laptop. But to be honest, it does not look like a hardware problem, but in my case, some 3rd party process running in the background and cannot be cancelled automatically. Usually, this happens if I n t close the application correctly.

In your case, you should check whether all applications has been closed properly.
You should also try to clean the system using the cleaning such as CCLeaner tool.

    Hope this helps

  • HDD Upgrade SSD - Portege R30 is not booting

    Hello

Just bought a R30 and a very cheap OCZ SSD 240 GB, I'm trying to replace the HARD drive in the Toshiba with the SSD. I created the Toshiba Recovery discs and inserted the disc and the process of recovery from the DVD.

When I try to start the laptop, I get "insert system disk and press a key to continue the error."

I disabled the secure boot, I; ve switched in MSC mode, I checked the SSD, I can't get the R30 to recognize the new SSD.

    Any help or suggestion?

Just bought a R30 and a very cheap 240 GB SSD OCZ
I can't get the R30 to recognize the new SSD

The SSD is recognized by the BIOS?
The SSD drive should be visible on the first page of BIOS... if its is not visible, the BIOS does not see the SSD...
Why? Mainly because of compatibility issues...

In this case you don't have a lot of options; the SSD drive needs to be replaced by another which would be compatible... Unfortunately, there is no details what SSD drive would be compatible at 100% and that's why you need to check on your own hand...

If you have found a good job, please share the details here in the community... might be interesting for other members...

  • Portege Z30 & R30 - notice to owners + question about SSD upgrade

HI - need some advice please.

I am looking to replace a laptop existing and have narrowed down the choice to a Portege R30 or Z30.

There are owners out there with a view on another machine? I read all the comments: this is the point of view of any beneficial owners I'm after. Reliability, ease of use in particular. Has anyone replaced a battery on a Z30? That sort of thing.

There is a lot of money for me to spend - so I would really appreciate the help.

Having said that I'm torn between the two models - I'm leaning a little towards the Z30 - but the standard SSD is too small. I am aware that the SSD is mSATA and which does not limit what he can be replaced by. I'm a big fan of the EVO series - and there's an mSATA SSD available in sizes up to 1 TB.

Although there is not much information online - it was suggested that the current BIOS on the Z30 does not recognize mSATA SSD more than 512 MB.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks a lot, a lot.

Unfortunately, I m not Portege Z30 owner but I want to share my knowledge on this unit.
The Portege Z30 upgrade is a little tricky.
First to get access to the battery and the memory modules and mSATA low cover should be removed.

This means that you lose the warranty if you remove this cover.
I guess that it s not worth the warranty having such expensive unit.

By the way: models are equipped with a type mSATA ' Solid State Drive (SSD) "128 GB/256/512 GB
But this does not mean that the biggest mSATA modules are not supported. To be honest, this detail isn't known to me, but I think that the controller should be able to handle larger sizes too.

I like the look of and the weight of the portege but doesn't understand why I can't buy one in the United Kingdom with the 64-bit windows professionals.

  • Portege M400: Why am I not asked a password at startup?

    Hello

I have a Portege M400 and I used the Toshiba security software help put in place a the BIOS boot password, but also a protection of HARD drive password. This software, as well as the true BIOS (Esc + F1 at startup) show that the password I set is recorded or recognized.

However, I'm not really asked any of these passwords when I start the computer.

I have a system to dual-boot with the original WinXP for Tablet PC on one of the partitions and one Feisty Ubuntu on another. My boot loader is GRUB, but I do not understand why this should affect the behavior of the BIOS which should arrive before calling the bootstrapper...

Can someone help me with this? It would be really important for me to protect my BIOS and the hard drive.

    Thanks in advance,
    dsokus

    1. check your security settings with password for Toshiba utility. Are these these configured correctly?
2 you have the user or supervisor password? If you only set the supervisor password that you are not prompted for the password.
    3. try to put the HDD and user pw in the initial bios setup (press ESC when prowering on).
