Portege Z830-10N - SSD drive formatting / wiping

Hello

What is the best way to wipe the SSD in this laptop.
Religiously I used always erase HARD drive to factory reset/wipe SSD drives.
The reason is that it becomes the player running "like new".

I was always told never to format these disks using a windows disc.
Erasing the HARD drive does not work in AHCI mode and you cannot change the SATA mode in the BIOS version :(

Is there a tool I can use to secure erase this player in this laptop?
If so what and where can I find it please?

Otherwise any1 know of any clever way of getting this deleted drive?

Thank you

Hello

> I always told me never to format these disks using a windows disc.
Why?
I put t see why the SSD doesn't have to be formatted before you start the installation of the OS.
I did it several times on my laptop where the HARD drive has been replaced with SSD drive.

During the installation of the system, you will be asked if you want to format the HDD/SSD to erase / format or create new partitions. You can do it if you want

    Hello

You need the driver LAN or Wlan driver.
I ve no idea which driver you have already installed but mentioned drivers is necessary.
I recommend that you check the unknown device by using this statement of troubleshooting:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/Ann.jspa?annID=78

This will tell you the name of the controller, and I think that should be enough to get the right driver.

    The comments appreciated.

  • Fresh install of Windows 7 on Portege Z830-10R with new mSata SSD

I have Toshiba Portege Z830-10r and you want to reinstall Windows 7 costs on mSata new SSD.

The problem is, * Windows does not recognize the device and wants additional drivers.*

The 120 GB SSD Kingston is visible in the BIOS, updated automatically in AHCI mode (no option to change).
    How to fix?

    > The 120 GB SSD Kingston is seen in the BIOS.
Where did you see the SSD in BIOS?
If it is stated on the first page of the BIOS, including the name of readers and other details such as the size of the SSD?
If the SSD drive is recognized properly, there must be another question, why the system requires drivers.

I m wondering what camera you used to install Windows 7.
Boot you from external CD/DVD USB drive or did you use the USB flash memory key to install the Win 7 OS?

The point why I m asking is one of the key flash memory forum members used USB to reinstall the Win 7 OS on the same model of laptop, and it was not possible because the USB flash memory stick has been connected to the USB 3.0 port.

In case you have also connected the device to the USB 3.0, please try other * USB 2.0 port reinstall the system!

  • Portege Z830 - where can I get the new HARD drive

    Hello

I have problem with my toshiba portege z830 ultrabook.
My HARD drive died, and I don't know where I can get the new HARD drive.

I've got guaranteed but I am forgotten registered my cell phone before when I went for repairs not authorized, because my first problem was with the motherboard.

This motherboard has been replaced for new ones.
If my warranty is maybe cancelled.

Well, that's my problem to another.

    What should I do?
Please help me. I am available to do anything.

    Hello

I think that you should first check if your warranty is still valid.
This can be checked on Toshiba Unitdetails page:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails/

Where the warranty is valid, get in touch with maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for replacement.

But as far as I know the Portege Z830 was equipped with an mSATA SSD drive.
This means that the laptop doesn't support HDD 2.5 common but requires special mSATA SSD drive module.

In case your warranty is not valid, you will pay for a new mSATA module.
Replacement should do a service provider authorized Toshiba as well because this replacement is a little tricky on this model of laptop.

  • Portege Z830: Cannot install Win7, complains about driver CD/DVD

    Hello!

I have a brand new Portege Z830 and as usual wanted to start by installing a new installation of Windows 7 x 64 (that I don't want the software provided and cannot be trusted, that it is safe in any case). I have saved all of the disk, prepared a flashdisk USB bootable with Windows Setup and it. The flashdisk OK boots, Windows wonder about my language and keyboard, and then shows a screen where I can choose between installation, repair and something else (the Recovery Console, I think).

I click on install, Windows starts the installation program aand once a first dialog box appears, it displays an error message that basically says (this is a translation of the message from my localized Windows): "a required CD/DVD drive driver is missing. If you use a driver from the floppy disk, CD, DVD, or the flashdisk, insert now. "And I can't get over this error message. The strange thing is, there is no reason for that Windows requires no additional driver, because he can read the installation flashdisk (apparently) and he can see the ultrabook SSD, too (can be verified as well in the recovery console and clicking the browse of this dialog box). So far I have tried:

    (1) four different Windows 7 images (two of them to MSDN AA, two physical, that have been used successfully to install the OS before).

    (2) switch SATA mode to AHCI Compatible.

    (3) two different flashdisks.

    (4) any combination of the boot order.

Nothing has worked. I even tried e-mailing of Toshiba, but all messages to return with 'user unknown' (understandable, I had to guess addresses since Toshiba doesn't seem to provide some official way to communicate with them - or is hiding if well I have found it). Does anyone have an idea what I can try next? I rather like the Z830 and I'd love to use it, but the ability to install my own installation of the operating system is essential for me.

    Thanks, Pepak

    > I tried e-mailing of Toshiba...
Maybe stupid question now, but have you tried to contact Microsoft too? If the BIOS is OK, and if all the USB ports work correctly, I don t think it is Toshiba related issue. Toshiba offers notebook with the original recovery image (WIN7 64-BIT HOME PREMIUM) and ability to create bootable USB stick with the recovery image that can be used when you want.

What you do now is your own installation of the OS. Toshiba has to do is to offer to all the important factors, download tools and utilities on the drivers page.

What else could you try? Try to get external USB ODD and trying to install WIN7 using Microsoft installation disc. I'm sure it will work.

  • Portege Z830 WIn8 used but more than space SSD upgrade

    Hi all

I just upgraded by Z830 of WIn8 with the Upgrade Wizard (which works well) but I'm now very low disk space, and I have not yet put Office yet.

Guess I can delete the windows.old directory - can I anyone confirm?
Is there anything else I can do?

As an aside, no idea why my c: partition is displayed only 97 GB?
It does not help when I lost 30GB before you start!

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

You can delete the windows.old directory if you have already moved your personal files and settings (such as the list of IE Favorites)

However, you see just a C partition containing the 97GB, but I guess that there is also another partition which is not visible.
But you should see the entire space of the SSD drive in the disk management to win 8
To access the disk management, click Disk Management shortcut in the Menu power user, which you can access by pressing the WIN and X together on your keyboard keys.

Four days ago, I bought R830-111 [PT320E-00X00XPL] and a - DATA S599 2.5 "SATA II Solid State Drive 128 GB to replace the standard HARD disk drive. Unfortunately, the new SSD drive does not work with this laptop.

I have day laptop BIOS [BIOS360_EC140_WIN] and SSD drive. That did not help.

Can someone help and tell me how to work this SSD ADATA and Portege?

Have you checked if the SSD drive needs a firmware update?
In some cases, this is necessary, but in the worst cases, the SSD drive might not be compatible and this means that you need to test another :(

  • Portege Z930 - need of external controller for SSD drive internal

My Board TOSHIBA Portege (ex-portable) (Z930) burned with hot water. I removed the small SSD and now need to transfer the data with a USB drive on another PC.

I borrowed from a friend a SATA USB adapter with 2 interfaces and even small connectors for SATA was not small enough for SSD from TOSHIBA. Apparently, I need a special SATA USB adapter that installs on TOSHIBA Portege mSata.

The reason why I wrote here is because there are many SATA USB adapters in internet advertised, but it seems that they have larger connectors. While TOSHIBA calls the marked thereon mSATA SSD, but several people call mSATA for one size larger SSD.

I don't want to order that something does not again. Is there someone who already removed SSD Portege?
Could you give me a link for such adapter?

The laptop was equipped with a chip HM77 Intel Panther Point and with the launch of the Intel chip allowed laptop manufacturers to integrate SSD form factor mSATA (micro SATA).

There is also a difference between the mSATA form factors
The mSATA being limited to four chips (NAND) only, Intel has developed a new standard mSATA called m2 or mSATA2.

In many cases, this is also called NGFF (new generation form factor)
This standard m2 is longer and has more low a profile

I'm not sure if this Z930 Portege supports mSATA or mSATA2, but you check the internal SSD drive where this information should be available

  • Portege Z830: Create the recovery and removal on SSD USB recovery partition?

    Hello

I already found a lot of discussions around the question how to increase free space on the SSD drive.

Is it possible to remove the recovery partition after you create a recovery key USB with the tool 'Create a Toshiba Recovery media'?
    No risk?

If it would be possible, how it is possible to assign the space gained on the C: partition?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

    > Is an option to remove the recovery partition after you create a recovery key USB with the tool 'create a Toshiba Recovery media "?
    > No risk?

Well, the recovery partition would create again when the laptop recovery procedure using disk recovery or the flash memory stick recovery

So if you want to remove the 2nd partition, you must create this disc/USB stick recovery before changing something on the HARD drive.

  • Portege Z830 - BSOD, windows XP Setup

    Hi guys/girls,

Been trying to install windows XP on this machine to an internal user, unfortunately we have this machine to use XP. However, I get a blue screen during windows XP Setup.

I downloaded the AHCI drivers for windows XP on the toshiba site and load them during the installation of windows XP, but get the same blue screen.

We also loaded into the bios and tried to change the mode of the sata to IDE controller, but it is greyed out and we cannot change it (I think it is in the ssd, but I could be wrong)

IM currently stuck right now and don't know how to proceed, there are windows XP drivers available on the Web site for this computer toshibas but I can't get installed it, there must be a way to install it.

    Hello

    > I downloaded the AHCI drivers for windows XP on the Toshiba site and load them during the installation of windows XP, but get the same blue screen.

What Z830 Portege do you have exactly? I check the page pilot European Toshiba drivers Win XP for Portege Z830 but did not find a?

Are you sure that you have downloaded the driver AHCI compatible?

  • Portege Z830, PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

    Hello

I have a problem on my Toshiba Portege Z830. After that I turn to the top of the computer, windows attempts even to start, instead, I saw the following message:

PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of
PXE - M0F: Exit Intel Boot Agent.
    Insert system disk in drive.
    Press any key when ready...

From what I understand, it seems that laptop is trying to boot from LAN, instead of SSD.

I did that in the BIOS boot order is reasonable. It is:
    1 HDD / SSD
    2. USB memory
    3. USB WEIRD
    4. DISKETTE DRIVE
    5 LAN
I also tried to load the defaults in the BIOS, just in case.

I also tried to re - install Windows 7 and Ubuntu installation, USB. In both cases, Installer was not able to discover any drive where system could have been installed.

That seemed to me like a problem of material with SSD. And it's actually the second time I'll have it with this laptop. I got it about 4 months ago and at that time I sent my laptop certified Toshiba service in Zuerich. They sent it back, saying that the material was OK and he must have had a software problem.

To my surprise, after that they sent back for some portable reason indeed started working, I have not yet lost all data (didn't need to reinstall the system, everything worked).
I was happy, but since now the same thing happen again, I don't know what I have to do.

Whether any other SSD that hardware problem? If Yes, what else can I try?

If the only option is broken hardware, how can I make sure that this time he gets permanently fixed by Toshiba service?

    Thank you
    Alan

    > From what I understand, it seems that laptop is trying to boot from LAN, instead of SSD.

It's OK; the message appears if no other boot device could be found.

    _Question: _
SSD or HDD disk appears on the first page of the BIOS (size of the SSD drive and the name should be visible)?
In case the SSD drive isn't in the list, there must be a problem with this device and I guess you have to replace it.

    > If the only option is broken hardware, how can I make sure that this time he gets permanently fixed by Toshiba service

You simply ask the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country.
I guess guys will try to recover the laptop and where this is not possible, they would replace the faulty device.
