SoulTaker, welcome to the forum.
Have you had a reason for not being able to level and by whom?
I know of no reason why you can't upgrade the power supply (PSU). In fact, I recommend several hundreds of them over the past years. I love OCZ and Corsair. They will provide your system clean and stable food. They are passionate about quality with a reasonable price. I suggest at least 600W. This will give you possible shared future updates. You must measure the existing PSU and compare the measurements to the one you choose. Read the customer reviews of the two in the links I provided to see what users have to say about them.

From now run many games on this machine with what graphics settings be better then adverage is a sad screen. I don't need the best, but I was wondering if I could spend my power supply card and graphics mabye if need be to get the best out of this small computer for gaming?
Does anyone have suggestions on what chart cards (best I can go) that are compatible with this machine as is?
And/or what power upgrade level to if necessary to install a better graphics card - and which cards would be these (even better cards that would work on this machine)

power upgrade HP Pavilion p7-1423w
Hello forum! I have a HP Pavilion p7-1423w. Looking for a power supply that can accommodate more than one hard drive or SSD upgrade and more than one DVD/BD drive. Don't want to add maps. (Last inline adapter I had literally taken FIRE at HP and destroyed my previous PC!)
Anyone know any compatible feeds that I can use that come with earplugs, I am looking?
Also, if I add an SSD, is there anyway to have it run the operating system? (Do the primary drive?)
Thanks if anyone can help.
You are welcome.
Crucial makes good products. However, I believe that Samsung SSD should work on your computer, too. They seem to be one of disks to work best without changing the BIOS settings, other than the AHCI if it is not set. You can contact the Technical Support for the brand you want to purchase to ensure that proper operation with your system. I rarely buy components without checking first with the Technical Support from the manufacturer. It saves money on returns. They need the specifications of your computer.

XPS 8500 card video, power, upgrades
I see several threads looking for upgrades XPS 8500 graphics card that can be used with the stock PSU 460w or improved power supply. However, in upgrading the GPU for this machine, there are a few cards that are not compatible and will result in a black screen. Even with a correct video card installation, an appropriate power supply and/or upgrade video card fans are going to work, but there is no video. The problem lies in the BIOS to 8500 XPS motherboard does not recognize the video card and it is a known issue that has carried over from the XPS 8300 to the current XPS 8500.
There was a video BIOS updates of some card manufacturers to fix this problem for some cards, but there are many old maps that do not work. The safest bet would be to use a new card with the PCI 3.0 specifications.
In the sticky in this forum, a link to the current Dell drivers shows the following video cards that support drivers for Windows 8:
Video
GeForce GT 545 | GTX660 | GTX555 | GeForce GTS450 | GeForce GTX 590 | GeForce GTX 460 | GTX680 | GeForce GTX 580. GeForce GTX 560 Ti | GTX 480 | GTX690 http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00753042M/3

Since it's cards Dell OEM that are supported, there are also specific questions from manufacturer where a given video card model may or may not work according to its configuration. Considering that an XFX HD 6870 will work in the XPS 8500, the same map made by another manufacturer may not work.
Please consider this when you do upgrades of the PSU and GPU and, hopefully, BIOS upgrades in the future will answer these questions.
It would be useful if you have a SPECIFIC card that does or does not, to indicate the manufacturer and the model number full in this thread.
Operating system information and the Bios would be also useful, and if you use the power SUPPLY Dell or a block upgrade of power. Specific model please!
Edit:
Please include following and other useful information
Manufacturer number and model of graphics card:
BIOS:
Operating system:
Power supply manufacturer otherwise Dell 460w PSU:
Compatible: Yes or no
Original card with the system that has worked:
I just installed a GTX 970 in my Dell XPS 8500 with questions for the first time.
It's pieces:
- Updated my XPS 8500 Motherboard Bios to version "A12" while you wait for my parts arrive
- EVGA NVIDIA GTX 970 Superclocked Graphics Card (EVGA 04 G-2974-KR)
- EVGA SuperNOVA 750B 1 750W power supply (PSU) (110-B1-0750-VR)
Note that I have chosen the 'Return of the fan' version of the card, rather than the version dual fan ATX 2.0. This is because the design of the housing of the 8500 XPS is not 'Great' traffic. The style of 'Référence' (shell solid video card with a single fan - which pulls air from the case in... and vents at the rear of the PC) is better suited to the XPS.
Put a new power supply in a Dell XPS 8500 is a little something. All ATX power supplies were about the same height and width (150mm or 5.09 ") and (86mm or 3.38"). The problem is the depth. How deep into your PC can reach (extending to the back of your CD/DVD). Don't forget, you have this tiny USB/headphone jack thing sunk to half way:
I did some steps and realized that MAX PSU depth that would work would be approximately 165mm or about 6.5 ". It's difficult because I wanted a 750w power supply more power and its REALLY, REALLY hard to find good food slot with less than (180 mm/7.09 ""). And who didn't come home.
I have scoured every Watt 700 +, 80 + certified PSU carried by Newegg (from 01/12/2014). Then, I checked cross the specs from newegg for each prospect with the manufacter to audit Web site. I focused only on PSU at least 8 comments and then only if they have averaged a 3.5 rating (unless the low notes were for trivial things like discount).
After having looked up the plug on more than 200 of the PSU (over a period of 5 hours), I only came with 5 potential:
- EVGA SuperNOVA 750B 1 $69.99
- MARINE RX-1000AE 1000W $119.99
- SeaSonic SS - 750KM 3 750W $139.99
- CORSAIR AX series AX760 $159.99
- Coolmax 1200W ZPG-1200 b $282,35
I also want to remind the reason why you MUST make sure that your power supply is 165mm or less in depth, and you can't say anything by looking at a a particular series. Many unique models factory in a series which is just 'smaller '. You have to look at the specifications of each individual model.
For example, all except a psu on 700 wats EVGA are (180 mm/7.09 po). Only 750B 1 is about 165mm. You will also see that he is a 'Bronze' rather than 'Gold' or 'Platinum' unit 80 +. I suspect it's "BRONZE" side has something to do with the size. I they omitted huge heat sinks and a little efficiency to achieve the reduction of 15mm in size. The quality of the PSU is always more than enough for my needs, and the price can not be beat.
Now for the installation. I won't say it was EASY to get the power supply into the case. I had to unplug all my SATA power supply and cables. I had to bend the cables on top of ATX case a little, and I had to be very patient reconnection.
I also had to reroute the wire connecting the top of the case to the Mini PCI (?) card slot. I didn't honestly it only those who were (they sit behind the rear USB sockets on the motherboard), and they snap on with small quotes as the clichés about the Jeans. I tried to not interrupt them (because they look fragile), but I accidentally their popped. Thank God they fix on. There are even small arrows above each terminal (a black solid, outline to indicate white) so get back you them on in the right order.
I found it very convenient for stuff a lot of cables in the vacuum "floppy" spot below the CD player. I also found that I had to plug in the cables in a certain order - because some cables blocked the access to the terminals for others. (SATA/Power to the CD player, for example is right behind UAP. I had to do these first, because I would never get my fingers here if I saved that for the end).
Now for the pre-installation preparation. I updated the BIOS to A12 and downloaded the installer for the GeForce drivers before moving on my hardware.
Driver Bios A12 two years ago, but they allowed detection of my GTX 970. Someone asked me for the version of the drivers, so this is:
Dell XPS 8500 / Vostro 470 system BIOS
A12. EXE
Release date October 29, 2013
Last updated October 31, 2013
Version A12As I said at the beginning, I was on the A09, but A12 is cumulative and takes you all the way (including all versions in the meantime).
I uninstalled all my old ATI drivers until I stopped the first time. I did install the Geforce drivers until after I went on my hardware. (I wanted just the installer on my desktop - ready and waiting).
Overall - it worked. The map spans 2-4 "later in the case, but it fits. The power supply is approximately 4 "away from the back of the CD, but it fits. And it starts.
I just finished playing "Far Cry 4' on the Nvidia setting 2560 x 1080. The new parameter (beyond ultimate) appeared after I plugged on the map. I also played Assassins Creed Unity (which is what I chose as my free with the card game - since I already had 4 Far Cry). The two seem to play 60 fps with no problems.
Because of the fan on the power SUPPLY and the evacuation from the rear video card, my machine works currently more cool now.
Hope that helps. My total cost was about $435. $349 for the card and $69 for the power supply (taxes extra).
Sincere greetings,
Andrew Russell
P.S. If you have questions about this weird brace to the right of the PSU... I added a 3rd hard drive under the CD player. There is only the 'Front holes' so I'm a little creative and put up one of the "PCI mounting plates" from an old ATX case. I folded the right-hand curve and he the perfect length to attach as a cross tube to keep the hard drive in place.

Trying to find the plug and the power upgrade in a HP Pavilion Elite m9177c
First time posting here so I hope I chose the right place for my question.
I currently have a HP Pavilion Elite m9177c as a tempoarily computer until I can build my own. He was works fine but I found that this computer for all its good specs has only a 8500GT no idea why parent obtained through costco and gave it to use when my dell power supply gone bad and must be replaced.
So I chose an EVGA 9800 GT
http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814130534
But I discovered that my HP probably has just one power 350 watts (checked online still need to open the case to be exact, before buying it) while the card requires 400 watts accoring to the details.
I tried to call HP support for dimensions and wattage supply type, but it was a chore. One guy said all the power supplies have the same size (maybe he meant the hp ones for my computer, but he never said so), another guy told me that without a guarantee that he could not even tell me the power and the third Lady said my dimensions are 9.6 inches by 9.6 inches or 24 centimeters. (do not know if she was trying to give me a microatx measure and I misunderstood the 3 as a 9 or what.) And the first guy claims it was a micro-ATX Power Supply, while the other comes from say atx.
So after some googling I found these links
1. http://www.censuspc.com/HP-Hewlett-Packard-5188-2859-350-Watt-SIRAH-350-Replacement-Desktop-PC-Power... - this seems to be what I have but he calls it the ATX 12v version
2.http://www.911forpcs.com/5188-2859.html - this seems to be something I could go too, but I don't know if I might be better off with a full-on name brand like Corsair.
3.http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01736200 - this is a different model of Pavilion Elite but so far it looks like mine how. The same video, for some reason any does not exist on the page for my model.
I found two feeds that seem to fit the same dimensions as in link #1, but a larger 0.1 inch on a measure, but I hope that my hp case allows a slight wiggleroom.
1. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028 - a 600 watt Corsair
2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153151 - a 530 Watt Thermaltake
Was just curious to know if anyone has better info on what exactly is in my case, and what is the best food to buy. I still intend opening the case before buying but just moved and such and call help tech kind of wore out me. I wanted to anyway just say that the computer has been much less the thing of the graphics card. Thank you
Hello
Type HP power supply (PSU) dimensions for cabinets mid-turn are: 5.9 by 3.4 by 5.5 inches. If you get a power supply that is longer you might have problems of space between the PSU and the optical drives. In addition, there are a stabilizing latch that cannot secure the PSU of stirring. This is a minor issue you should aware of your PC should be buy a power supply which is longer than the typical POWER HP block.
The Corsair and both Thermaltake excellent food. I would give the go-ahead for the CX600 Corsair ($50 after rebate) based on the cost, the total power available and the efficiency rating.
This power supply is typical for your PC based on the part number indicated by HP PartSurfer.

They recommend that Yougamers.com is: Nvidia GEForce 8600 512 MB and to get optimized performance: ATI Radeon HD 4870 1 GB. Now I hear sometimes, you must update the watts of power, and I was wondering what the card should be good (cheap) and what I need to do for food?
Thanks for any help I can get!
Hi IRL1231,
Open your PC and a few measurement in parallel with the PCI-E x 16 slot to see how long of a video card will fit. The adjacent slot on the PCI-E x 16 slot must be vacant. Look at the motherboard, and ensures that the components on the motherboard will not interfere with the installation of the video card.
This PowerColor Radeon 6850is $130 after rebate. The card is 8.5 "length.
PSU Corsair CX500is $ 40 after rebate and it's quality food.
' HP ' how-to 'articlesshould be useful.
TIP: Remove the flange (cover) and unlock the scanner and move forward before you remove and replace the power supply. This will facilitate installation. The new PSU cables will be longer so find an empty Bay and store them in order to improve air flow. Install the power supply and that your PC stable first before installing the video card.

The upgrade of power and a video card
I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE - 410 t
I am a dealer of stock and want to run 3 monitors with a diamond 6670.
The card is 7 in long and a double wide, although it seems that the fan is taking extra space
I need the power upgrade. I see recommended Corsair, but I found a post that said HP was the only son of a 24 connector pins that would fail to supply 3rd party.
Will be the privateer and the card to adapt?
Thank you.
I've not used one, but he claims he mirror, extend or rotate. I'll take 'mirror' to signify to display the same image on another monitor. I take "extend" meaning display a new picture above, below, left or right of an existing image.

using xp SP3. This happens every day since the upgrade to the new versions. Power upgrade successfully and use for the rest of the day. Then, after a stop in the night and when restarting in AM, older version opens.
Without trying something new since my last post, for reasons I can't understand, the issue is resolved. I've waited several days (to respond) to confirm everything works correctly, and for the moment, everything is good. THANK YOU for all that you said. upgradeing ram important issue and other questions
I have a p6310f of hp with stock mobo and ram 6 GB with a testing latancy or 7-7-7-20 if I upgrade the RAM to 16 gig with say 11-11-1127 latency going to work? also I and looking to change my case to something big to contain all my parts which would be most effective, I need that would be gamming cooling fans high quality events ect and built in the management of the psu cables and also lighting case on board. and I intend upgradeding my diet for a modular what power should I get because I want a power upgrade, but do not want a lot Finally I plan to upgrade my cpu which is the best that I can get that to work on a stock hp p6310f mobo and I also chip new plan what could get for said of cooling water id perfer a all-in-one, when I'm very new to the cooling water. manythanks to a guy who has had great love for hp and got a support from you wonderful people!
EDTIIHere are the specifications of your HP Pavilion p6310f desktop and it is card mother M2N78-(Violet6). According to specifications, your computer will support the following improvements;
CPU / processor;
Max TDP = 95 Watts
This motherboard only supports AM3 processors.
Supported memory is limited to DDR3 modules only.
HyperTransport 3.0
AMD Phenom II X 4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb)
DIMM / memory;
Four DDR3 DIMM sockets (240 pin)
DIMM types supported: PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066) PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) or
Non - ECC, unbuffered single memory
Supports 1 GB, 2 GB and 4 GB DDR3 DIMMS
Dual channel memory architecture
Power supply;
All ATX12V v2.3 power supply about the same size as your original factory supply. The rated power is really depends on the requirements of the graphic card installed on the computer. In general, the Corsair CX500, or CX600 are highly recommended and known to fit most HP consumer. It seems that Corsair has recently expanded the range of CX to include some modular power supplies.
Graphics card;
Almost any PCIe x 16 v2.0, v2.1 and v3.0 should work on your computer. The games current and/or futures contracts, you intend to play will determine what graphics card, you must install. As you like it is a "gaming platform", I would use a Nvidia GTX 550 Ti, GTX 650 Ti, or more... or an AMD Radeon HD 6770, AMD Radeon 7770 or higher.
If you really want to use a new case not HP and the water cooling, I wouldn't bother upgrading your HP p6310f. Instead, I'd build a new system of measurement from the ground upward. This will allow you to use the latest available technology.
Please send Bravo

Hello
I bought my XPS 8300 in 2011. He's been good for me over the years, but now I find that I could use a GPU upgrade. It handles most of the games, but barely meets the minimum. I'm still running Windows 7, but plan on spending at 10 at the end of the year. It has the stock power 460W Dell I have probably as well to replace it.
