PowerEdge 2900 & RHEL5 - OMSA complain the warning of storage component.

I recently installed RHEL5 on our new PowerEdge 2900 III (int. Perc6i controller).  After all the updates, I get this warning in the OMSA:

The current version of the driver 00.00.03.10 (megaraid_sas) is older than
required driver version 00.00.03.13 (megaraid_sas) for a controller
model 0x1F0C: 1 controller (PERC 6 / i integrated)

Now, I downloaded the 00.00.03.16 version of the megaraid_sas driver, and when I followed the instructions of the .tgz update I get:

[root@zimbra PERC6i Driver] # rpm - ivh dkms - 2.0.13 - 1.noarch.rpm

Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
the dkms package - 2.0.17 - 1 (which is newer than dkms - 2.0.13 - 1) is already installed
file /etc/init.d/dkms_autoinstaller to install dkms conflicts - 2.0.13 - 1 with the dkms package file - 2.0.17 - 1
file/usr/sbin/dkms install dkms conflicts - 2.0.13 - 1 with the dkms package file - 2.0.17 - 1
file /usr/share/man/man8/dkms.8.gz to install dkms conflicts - 2.0.13 - 1 with the dkms package file - 2.0.17 - 1
[root@zimbra PERC6i Driver] #.

And when I go to install the real driver I get:

[root@zimbra PERC6i Driver] # rpm - ivh megaraid_sas - v00.00.03.16 - 1.noarch.rpm
Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
package megaraid_sas - v00.00.03.16 - 1 is already installed
[root@zimbra PERC6i Driver] #.

My question is, what Miss me to get the OMSA stop the warning?  Looks like I got everything in order...

Thank you for your time...

-Rob

  • The PowerEdge 2900 server RAID

    Hello everyone and good day

I have a PowerEdge 2900 which was erased and raid configured with 2 discs and ready for os install. However when you try to use the Server Wizard, I get an error that his stats can not detect readers or they are not initialized. I do all the raid configuration and should be ready. I took a peek in the bios of the main server and I do not see listed in the boot sequence raid controller. all I see is cd rom on b sata and hard drive. until the server has been annihilated the raid controller has been listed in the boot sequence menu. I changed a setting that I shouldn't have or I am missing a part of the process? No matter which lend a little and fix this? I would like to get the server operational return. the server has a perc 6i

When I got is the server was running. However, he came from a health care facility and had to be wiped.

I have it wiped myself just by going to the raid controller and removing the VFD and reconfiguring with new configuration.

Please tell me that I don't have just the weight of the heavier paper in my office.

You must configure AND initialize the virtual disk (table)... tick all the boxes advanced and Initialize during the creation of the VFD.

You can also use a version of "server Wizard" (obsolete) that does not support the hardware in your server.

  • Setting up multihomed PowerEdge 2900 for the fault tolerance

I try to configure a PowerEdge 2900 server with two network cards on the same subnet-tolerant, but cannot find a way to do it properly. I found this:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/175767/en-us/

    who says:

"Some manufacturers are tolerant network adapters to guard against a single point of failure. These adapters enable two adapters to be placed in the same server, but only allow the use of an adapter at the same time. If the primary card fails, the driver disables the first card and activates the second with the same address configuration. The end result is a pretty seamless transition to the replacement adapter. This is the preferred method to guard against a single NIC as a single point of failure. »

That it applies to PowerEdge or is there another way to set it up?

    Thank you.

  • How to fix the battery failed in PERC 5 / I in a PowerEdge 2900

I have a server PowerEdge 2900 running Windows Server 2008 R2.  In OPenManage server administrator (OSA) it shows that the battery on the PERC 5 / I is in a State of 'Impossible '.  What can I do to fix this problem/error?  I find that the only available operations of OSA is "start the learning Cycle.  Will running that can help?  Thanks for any help.

Well, I ran the Cycle 'learn' and when it finished (took a few hours), the State is about to "Ready". In this case the question was solved/deleted by this operation. Thank you all for your contributions here. Please close case.

  • Update of firmware and drivers controller PowerEdge 2900

    Hello

I have server PowerEdge 2900. Current configuration I see on OMSA:

    BIOS version 2.3.1 (former)

    Controller PERC 6 / i integrated.
Version of the firmware is up to date.
    Firmware Version 6.0.2 - 0002
    Minimum Firmware Version 6.3.0 - 0001
    4.05.01.64 driver version
    6.1.7601.17577 Storport driver version

I need to upgrade the firmware of the controller and make the Windows updates on this server. My questions:

What is the correct order for the upgrade:

    1. Windows updates
    2. BIOS,
    3. ESM firware,
    4. Bottom of basket SAS firmware,
    5. Disk controller
    6. Firmware of the controller,
    My questions would be:
How can I verify ESM and bottom of basket SAS version of the firmware on my server, maybe I do not need to update those?
On the Dell support site, I could find only:
    Dell Server BIOS, 2.7.0Dell SAS Backplane Firmware, v.1.05, A01Dell BMC Firmware, v.2.50, A00Dell PERC 6/i Integrated, v.6.3.1-0003, A14

and how to find software to update the drivers:
    4.05.01.64 driver version
    6.1.7601.17577 Storport driver version
    ?
The Dell supports any automatic tool to collect and install the drivers and firmware required on a single server of Windows (except ITA)?
    Server is very critical, thanks,

Yes, it's safe.  It can be run from within the OS, or you can start on SBUU and serve Suu repository for update packages.

In most cases, it is easier to update of Windows, but it is not necessary.

    1. Windows updates
    2. BIOS,
    3. Environmentally sound management software (Yes, must be updated to BIOS).
    4. Bottom of basket SAS firmware (also needed),
    5. Controller driver (did you mean driver here? pilot, when it is available, it should be updated before... If current firmware to run 2008R2, new drivers are available through Microsoft Update - if available)
    6. The controller firmware
    7. The hard drive firmware
    8. NIC, DRAC, etc..

When / if get the support.dell.com site update files, use Packages to update for the format of Microsoft Windows.

  • PowerEdge 2900 (and 2950) with PERC 5i - extend Raid 5

    Hello

I have a Dell (PowerEdge 2900) server with a Raid PERC 5i (with BBWC) controller and 4 SATA drives installed (a virtual disk Raid 5, Windows 2008).

Now I have an extra drive (same capacity, same speed) and installed on the server.

I tried to expand the existing virtual disk (and the disk group) with the new physical disk drive in the BIOS of the controller and openmanage server administrator (managed node) running on windows.

But it is not possible to do with this Raid Cntrl?

Is there a way to do this without loss of data and maintenance of raid 5 redundancy?

The same procedure I need to do on a PE2950 (PERC5i)

    Thank you and best regards,

    loop11

What have you tried exactly, and what has happened or what have you seen?  You did not mention anything that leads me to believe that you tried this in the right place :)

The PERC 5 / I can do without a doubt:

With the disc, go to OMSA, PERC, case/bottom of basket, storage, physical disks and make sure your drive shows ready.

If ready, go to the OMSA, storage, PERC, virtual disks, select Reconfigure in the drop down menu to your RAID 5, follow the wizard to add the disk.

If the record shows the foreign, go to the OMSA, storage, PERC, Information/Configuration (link at the top of the page), click on foreign/clear in the dropdown menu, then follow the directions above.

  • PowerEdge 2900 showing predicted failure after disk replacement

    Hello

I posted this same message in the forum of the disk drives, then I realized there's a specific forum for disks hard server so I'm copying here.

We have a Poweredge 2900 with HDs 2x500Gb on RAID-1. One of the drives has failed and we replaced it with an identical disk that works very well (same brand, model number Seagate, etc.), but without a Dell PN.

After replacement, the controller began to rebuild the RAID, but it shows "predicted failure = Yes" for this new album. The disc is currently still under reconstruction.

One thing to notice is that apparently the Perc firmware is outdated. OpenManage shows that the current Perc 6 / i firmware version is 6.0.2 - 0002, and the minimum required version of the firmware is 6.2.0 - 0012. If I go to the Dell support site and enter a label for the Server service, it shows me a download available for the Perc firmware with version 6.3.3 - 0002.

    The questions are:

-Is generally allowed to use not Dell certified readers if they are of the same brand and model as the other disk?

-How would I determine the source for the warning of predicted failure?

-It would have something to do with obsolete Perc firmware? Are there risks associated with Perc firmware upgrade?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Update for our fans to the forum thread. Original poster concluded that used replacement drive was indeed bad. He is later replaced by a good drive and will update the server accordingly.

  • Added another HD to create an external symbol on my server PowerEdge 2900

I have a PowerEdge 2900 server, I thought that there Raid 5, MS Server2003. It is running out of space. I bought a to-exchangeable 2 hot - 3.5 "LFF - SATA-600 - 7200 RPM. I intend to add it as an external physical drive. If it is feasible, should what I do. Help!

Never turn off to introduce a hot-swap drive.  Just insert it.  After a few seconds it should show on your list of physical disks in the OMSA.  If the ready state, then you can set it up in a RAID (drop-down menu for PERC) array.  If the foreign State, then this foreign configuration must first be authorized (also in the controller menu).

  • Adding hard drive for poweredge 2900

I need to add a hard drive for storage on a server poweredge 2900.  There are 4 HARD drives in a RAID 5 array, but I don't want to add the new hard drive in the array.  I installed the HDD but impossible to initialize the disc and do it online.  Is there something that needs to be done first?  I do not have the options to reconfigure, only blink and add spare of the OSMA.

    Thank you

Assuming you have a PERC 5/6, it is important to know that the PERC does NOT support non-RAID.  So, if you want to use a disk like a stand-alone drive, you must first configure it in a RAID array.  The only RAID level that accepts a single drive is RAID 0.  You can do since within the OMSA inside the BONE (storage, PERC, Information/Configuration, create/New in list dropdown controller), or you can do it from the CTRL-R during POST utility (brightness, control F2, Create/New - be sure to check the advanced options and initialize boxes).

(Reconfigure is the option that you choose to add it to your existing 5 RAID to increase its size.)

  • PowerEdge 2900 switchable hot

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 running windows Small Business SERVER 2003, we will be taken out of service soon, but we just had a departure by car to go bad - seeing yellow flashes and error on LCD server message: 'E1 H10 HDD1 fault.'   daily backups and weekly regular running properly because of corruption, then I copied the table as a security measure.  I bought a new drive identical to the 4 existing disks that are configured as Raid 1.

    The drive is a:
    341-4430 750 GB 7.2 K rpm Universal SATA 3Gbps 3.5-inch hard drive

    The raid controller is:
    341-5754 1 SAS/SATA embedded RAID 1, PERC 6 / i integrated/SAS6/iR

Can I leave the server running and pull the wrong drive and drag the new, without running applications before or after this procedure, and will be automatically rebuild the raid?

I know that I need to replace the server.  But my immediate need is to solve the problem of bad disc, and I'd appreciate any advice or a link to the instructions in this procedure.

We are a small non-profit and have none of the staff and no budget assistance, or I would have called in help.

    Thank you

    Jeff

It is a Dell application that will interface directly with the hardware. It must be installed on any Dell server that you manage. On the downloads page, it is called OpenManage Server Administrator - Managed Node, use the 32-bit version.

  • POWEREDGE 2900 RAID 10 HAS NOT DEGRADED

    Hello

I have a Setup raid 10 on a server PowerEdge 2900, Perc 6 / i. There are 4 250 GB drives, set up as a Raid 10. A drive has failed. I tried the disk with a hot swap size even more recent. The server crashed and restarted, Post message showed during initialization F/W and writing degraded disk virtual, but restarting Ok. When I OpenManage it shows degraded and only shows 3 locations of the physical drive page. New drive is orange flashing on the right indicator light.

Can someone help me with the permutation of the reader?

    Thank you!

    Madmin46
Is that possible given that the new drive is not a certified dell disk that would cause problems?

Yes, and that's the most likely cause. Some versions of the AR4 are posted on several PERC controllers. Many times non-certified readers will work fine, but when certified and non-certified are run together, there are often questions... thinking that it is a American, South African and a Pilipino all English - speaking it may be difficult for the three to communicate because they all talk about the different versions of the same language, and language gap can cause problems on a controller which the tolerance of error and delay (patience) are thin.

I'll add pictures to this post as well

It is a mother Board of generation 1 for a PowerEdge 2900 server.

Your friend is wrong, the documentation is right (go figure): Socket 771.

Xeon 5160 is the best processor released for this version of Office.
