PowerEdge R720xd generates average noise

Hello

I posted about earlier on the failure of a disk in my server. And now I'm waiting for the replacement by Dell drive. However, I have no downtime or restarting the server until there was a power outage yesterday. In the meantime, server never had such a noise earlier he was running smoothly.

After that the power cut yesterday, I have shut down the server to make sure it down a diet adequate, then switched the server later when the power is on the rise. I can make sure I did no changes except for the disk failure. Once the server starts upward, he began to produce the higher noise, that he could never do. So, I did another reboot just to make sure I don't miss anything. However, he started the same noise, but this way is stronger than before.

So I guess it's because of the failure of the drive and the RAID or hardware strives to rebuild/find the defective drive... I'm not just assuming that... Any advice will be great.

Hello

The system will have different levels of acoustic output based on usage. If the system is idle, it will be very quiet, but if the system is used it will put much more heat and cause the fans to run at much higher RPM.

Is this is a picture of parity, then a rebuild will cause the controller perform calculations much above normal operations. It will also all readers in the table to deliver more heat while the controller indicates each of them.

If fans continue to high SPEED when the rebuild is complete then I suggest to examine the heat throughout the system.

Thank you

    Hello Forum,

I have problems to make audio omf for protools. All the waveforms look correct in Pro Tools, and I can navigate the .wav files generated by first and these fine reading, but not in the protools session.

ProTools don't like the external drive on the media's! Probably because it's a RAID.

  • average waveform data

    Hello

I'm relatively new to labview and programming.

My goal is to acquire potential of the retinal, the signal I get is accompanied by noise and is within reach of micro volt, my goal is to average noise so that I can analyze the real signal (signal without noise).

The incoming analog signal is continuous, but I need to a window of time of 25 seconds alternative to the average value, which means: medium-sized signals of 0-25 s is not an average of 26 to 50 seconds, medium from 50 to 75 seconds and so on...

I started overwhelming with getting a signal from a function generator and averaging the full signal and displays the signal averaged over a second waveform graph. If the VI show all errors I wanted to know if I'm in the right way?

If Yes, then how can I do to average the data to 25 second multiple (for 25 seconds between the starting point)?

I've also attached a diagram of what I expect to see

I was thinking about something in this direction.

You have a buffer limited on the acquisition of your data.  If you read fast enough, you will lose data.  Then read smaller amounts more often.  So I bibliography 1 second with a value of data 25 times.

Because you must connect to both average time, rethinking configure logging it, and just use the TDMS API instead.  Do a search in the finder of the example (help-> examples find) for TDMS Wruite time Domain.vi.  This is a decent example of what you want to do.

  • RF: Adding white noise to a stream IQ

    Hi all

As the title said, I seek to add noise to an IQ stream. I found that there is a VI in the RF range called NIFPGARFfp add AWGN which creates a scale factor to be applied to the skirts of my carrier signal noise. This scale is truncated up to the value of RMS of signal strength. I am wanting to change this VI to generate white noise for all the signaland that the user inserts the desired scale factor. Any ideas on that?

Finally, I feel that NEITHER truncated the level of white noise for some reason. Any thoughts on it? Ultamately, I would like to see if my signal can still be read/answer key with high levels of noise.

    Hello

Thanks for posting on the forums!

What equipment do you use? I was able to find this post from the community, which you may find useful: https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-30500

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what would be the reason to truncate the level of white noise.

  • Audible clicks of noise generation/acquisition vi

    Hey everybody!

    Fast facts:

I'm doing a vi to perform measurements of room acoustics.  The goal is to apply white noise octave band filtered in a room until a level of balance is reached, then turn off the sound source and measure the decay of the sound field in the room.  So, my vi generates white noise, filter by octave specified parameters, at the same time sends the output and begins data acquisition using DAQ assistant 2 blocks (both caused by an external function generator).  I put the exit exit DAQ assistant N samples (same number as generated by the simulation signal block) and the acquisition of input data is set to acquire more samples that block signalling simulation generates so that I continue to acquire the signal after speaker cuts wide and measure the sound field decomposition in the room.

    The problem:

The vi works perfectly except that when the speaker pauses at the end of the N samples is a notable very audible click, which must correspond to a kind of tip in the single output at the end of my example output N.  It is a big problem because it will change my measurements of the disintegration of his field. (see Appendix 1 for a screenshot of my vi)

    I tried unsuccessfully to solutions:

    (1) I thought that the click can be caused by sharply cutting the signal of excitement, so I tried to insert a block window to give a smooth envelope at the beginning and end of my signal.  The envelope fainted at the volume at well, but there was still a noticeable click and the end of the exit (after closing fade).

    (2) I tried to zero-pad to the end of the signal, thinking that I might be able to output a signal of amplitude zero while I measure the decay curve and I hope to delay the inevitable apparently, then click on until I have capture my data.  However, when I do this, my production Assistant DAQ gives me an error that the sample rate is 1 and the valid range of sampling frequencies are 800 1000 to 204.  Apparently the DAQ output is sent a single sample of my table of output data.  (see 2nd screenshot below)

I'm really puzzled, so any help would be greatly appreciated.  Be it a way to correctly implement my solution #2 from above, a new method to get rid or delay the click, or if someone can point me to an existing vi that will perform the functions of noise-excitation/acquisition that I need.

FYI, the material is a PXI-4461.

    Thanks in advance!

  • RAID and TRIM Config for R720xd and SSD

    Hello

    I have:

    • Dell Poweredge R720xd
    • 4 x 800 GB Dell Intel brand SSD S3700 DC
    • 8 x 600 GB Dell brand Savvio 10K.6 hard drives 2.5 "
    • Reference Dell PERC H710P Mono Mini

I would like to configure the server with a RAID 5 array to another array of RAID 5 for hard drives and SSDS.

On the SSD, I read that:

    1. The H710P does not pass through TRIM/cancel orders the OS MAPPING
    2. TRIM is not really necessary because the RAID controller has a method to warn the reader that the block is unused
    3. A small percentage of the SSD (~ 5%) should be neglected.  In my view, that it is more provisioning.

    (3) above is really necessary when it comes to RAID with SSDS?  If so, how to achieve this?  Make:

allocate some 95% of the available SSD space only when you create the RAID volume?

    OR

devote 100% of the available disk space on the RAID volume and then when I create partitions during the OS installation, leave unallocated 5%?

    Hello

None of this is important. Questions that concern you have no effect on your configuration.

    jfly
    • The H710P does not pass through TRIM/cancel orders the OS MAPPING
    • TRIM is not really necessary because the RAID controller has a method to warn the reader that the block is unused

When you use a controller hardware RAID of the operating system has no control on the blocks. The operating system thinks that they control all blocks are virtual, so any TRIM/UMAP makes the BONE's virtual blocks.

    jfly
A small percentage of the SSD (~ 5%) should be neglected.  In my view, that it is more provisioning.

During the introduction of reach a level of training. SSD manufacturers allocate space for it. If you want to make additional supply, some drive manufacturers provide utilities to allow you to manipulate the supply, or you can just have unallocated space on the disk. All unallocated space will automatically be used by the reader, but I don't see a need for this SSD is already provided by the manufacturer.

The link you provided is not for the H710p mini card. This is why it does not work, not because of a 32 bit 64 bit problem, and that I had linked to is the adapter not the mini that I have it based on the link and not the title of your post.

    Try this one http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01263699M/9/SAS_RAID_H710PM_21.2.0-0007_A04_ZPE.exe

To answer your questions about 64-bit, here is some additional information:

WOW64 is the 32-bit emulation Microsoft implementation, so that you can run 32-bit applications in a 64-bit environment. It is transparent, you don't have to do anything to run an application in WOW64. It has been used for all the applications installed that are not native 64-bit since 2003 x 64 applications.

    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/Windows/desktop/aa384249 (v = vs. 85) .aspx

Some updates of the firmware of hardware have the 64-bit versions, but most of the time between updates in 32-bit and 64-bit versions provides no advantage because it updates the firmware and not a normal running application and benefits that provide applications 64-bit are not necessary for an update , because it will not need more than 4 GB of memory, or the memory better treat that provide 64-bit applications. Production of 64-bit applications is a big advantage, but for an update that runs only once and is not necessary after that he improve the experience.

  • His acute appears when the power adapter is plugged into satellite

    Hello

My laptop is four days old, but when I use it and the power adapter is connected and provide electricity, a steep, low sound volume is issued from the fan area. When I remove the adapter it disappears usually, but sometimes intermittently returns in the form of a stuttering occasional, typically when I use many processor programs.

I also noticed that, if the sound is not present and yet I increase the brightness of the screen in the properties of the TOSHIBA power saver, he'll be back with a vengeance. In addition, the power supply makes the same buzz, but at least I can sit several feet from it.

Can someone therefore please tell me if this buzz / your electronic is normal, or if there is something I can do to prevent it being issued?

    Thanks for any help.

    [email protected]

    Hello

I think you should contact your dealer / ASP with this problem. It seems to me that there is some sort of component inside the PC that generates this noise when the processor speed is high.
Also if the power adapter is buzzing, you must show this to them as well.

It does not seem right that the unit should behave like that.

  • What does not restart in the FFT functions way?

    Hi all

I would like to know what that "restart average" made for the FFT functions. According to aid,"reboot on average indicates if the VI restarts the process chosen medium." If restart on average is set to TRUE, the restart of the VI the selected with an average of process. If reboot on average is set to FALSE, the VI does not restart the process chosen sprawl. The default value is FALSE. When you call this VI for the first time, the averaging process restarts automatically. A typical case when you need to reboot on average is when a major change of entry occurs in the middle of the averaging process"

I realized that the FFT function takes in an array of values and perform the FFT on it. If the FFT function keep a buffer previous values and clears when restart average = true? Because the FFT functions are not Point by point and they take both in all the data to deal with, "a major change of entry occurs in the middle of the averaging process" can be true?

    Thank you!

Sigh.  I really tried to explain what was going on (probably) with this function, you use (and, I thought naively, you understand), but you got me wrong.

This VI creates a zero average noise signal, providing 1024 points per second.  Do you know what should be the power spectrum of the signal?  Due to the randomness of the input signal, the power (for a small finished sample) spectrum will also have a random component.  If you had several ghosts of power on average, the average would begin to converge with the expected for random noise power spectrum.

If you run this VI and look at the Spectra resulting (on average), you will notice that the first spectrum is the most "spice" and that spectra are averaged, the variation is reduced and diminishes the value of crete (shown by looking at the scale of Amplitude).  At any time, you can press "Reset average" and see this... reset the average, the following spectrum shows the growing nose, etc.

It shows the right way to test the function of the power spectrum and discover what he does. My suggestion as to what makes this function seems to be largely correct.

It's a high-end desktop PC.  No doubt he will come with an ATX PSU with 5VDC, 12VDC and 3.3Vdc output rails.  I'm not familiar with the Interior of your PC, so I'll give you two General configurations of PSU layout.

    1. design intermediary such as PC Power & Cooling with one or two 80 mm fans to expel air through the PSU.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16817341011

2 down-draft design as Cosair 450VX with a 120 mm or more huge blowing fan case in the heat sink and the motherboard of the PSU.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16817139003

If the power supply is at the top, back or side of the PC, then a power supply down-project will do a better job to remove heat from the PC.  If the power supply is in the middle of the PC, then go with an intermediate design.  This design will generate more noise at higher load, since the smallest fan should turn more quickly to transport the same amount of air in a 150 mm or 120 mm fan.

Looking for a nominal 80% efficiency POWER supply.  Detachable power cable is a bonus to maximize the air flow inside the PC.  Make sure the power supply is delivered with the right type of power connector to drive you GPU.  All modern units of quality with 20 + 4 and 4 + 4 key cards.  If you do not plan to run graphic dual with a high range GPU, so it doesn't matter what quality 80 watter 380 power SUPPLY Antec, Corsair, Enermax and Seasonic PSU will be enough.  You will need to back up POWER supply to 450-550W, if you run two graphics cards high-end.

A good 450W PSU is a good compromise because it is more effective when the PC is idle and has enough power to run two GPUS.  If you want to save $ on electricity, then get a smaller power supply (range 300-350W) because these units reach the level of efficiency of 80% around release of 65 to 70 watts.
