PowerEdge T110ii using PERC S100 for RAID 10

I read that I can use S100 to implement a RAID 10. I bought 4 new drives (1 TB). I have installed in the system. They're all here and work. I went to the disk installation and created the virtual and selected drive all THE DRIVES and RAID 10. I then RECORDED. Now, he wants to install the operating system. I click and get to the point where it says WHICH DRIVE DO YOU WANT to INSTALL? It shows all 4 disks. What's wrong? I thought that since it's now a RAID on 1 disk. So I thought that maybe it would do during the installation of the operating system. No, it does not. When I get the OS installed it shows now 4 readers of all readers in a distinct way. What I am doing wrong? What is the size of the disks? Now, I have done this process 3 times and I keep hope for something different.

Hello

You create the table of the system and Documentation or System Build and Update Utility disc management tools? The configuration of the berries for the S100 work well with this installation disc.

Boot from THE RAID controller's BIOS via R CTL and create the matrix RAID it. Then boot from the installation disc and go to the section where you create the RAID array.

Thank you

    Hello world!

I'm not Moren help me, my DELL PowerEdge T110 II serverbecause the use of a test software, you must install the SEVER2003 32-bit system, using the onboard RAID, two 500 G SATA hard drives, I know not what method of installation to make the machine not not blue screen. I hope I have good luck, thank you.

    My first suggestion:

Install Hyper-V or VMware on the server, then 2003 as a virtual machine.

    My second suggestion:

Load driver for RAID controller to the floppy F6 prompt (the ONLY way 2003 knows how to get the storage third-party drivers).  If not, there is a diskette, use nLiteOS.com the driver into the installation media.  The driver is below:

    http://ftp.Dell.com/FOLDER93719M/9/DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A05_R294493.exe

    My third suggestion:

Disable the RAID card on board and implement mirroring in the operating system (disk management).

  • Dell PowerEdge 2900 - need to use internal drives for RAID

    Hi all

I am the I.T. guy for small business from my father. I help them on the side.

They have recently purchased a PowerEdge 2900 server used with 4 internal SCSI drives

This server also has a Dell SAS 5 / i integrated controller

I want to install Windows 2008 R2 standard on this server and use it as a file server and a place to host QuickBooks Enterprise.

The problem, in that I am running is that I can't find in the Bios or anywhere in the server startup utilities where I can configure the 4 internal drives as a RAID 5 array. I want to do this and THEN install the Windows Server operating system. I used the last Build Server utility Dell and also updated all the firmware to the latest versions. The Build Server utility doesn't let me configure the RAID array.  What I'm missing here?

Thank you very much for your help!

I upgraded to a PERC 6 / i integrated RAID controller and now problem is solved. Just need a new controller internal RAID.

    Problem is solved!

  • Initialization of the options in the system dell poweredge r610 with perc 6 / i raid controller

    Hello Sir,

I have a new question on dell power edge, actually I wanted to know this server works on a raid configuration only and for the purpose of the security of the data, we are able to use a flash drive to object is initialized (os ex: esxi, linux, windows) server as well as data will be SAS and OS record store will be separated into a flash drive?

Please clear my doubt... Thank you

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes we do, the real problem is I want to start my server with flash drive, I don't want to use the hard drive for OS, HARD drive for storage and the flash drive for OS.

  • RESOLVED: Loop of reboot after installing new disks in RAID of PERC S100

A customer has a Dell T110 (with a PERC S100 RAID controller) running Windows 2008 R2. The system has two disks: a reader not RAID (C :) running the operating system and a RAID1 drive (E :) sharing data with network folders.) We need to install again, larger disks for the RAID.

I thought I could backup the data on the RAID drive existing (e), install new disks, built a new table in the S100 (VDM) virtual disk boot manager, boot into the operating system, create the new partition for the data replaced E: drive and copy the data back. This was not the case. After installing the new disks and the new array of construction (which is reported as "READY (R/W)" when starting, Windows starts all the way in "press CTRL-ALT-DEL to log". After two or three seconds, the system reboots. The same thing happens when I try to start safe mode. The system IS NOT automatically booted to the Recovery Console. He never seems to know that an error occurred and the system was not shut down normally.

I booted into the Recovery Console, installed the drivers for the PERC S100 and run recovery to start without success. Also in the Recovery Console, I ran 'chkdsk /f E:\. ' (remarkably, the drive letter for the data drive remained the same), and no error has been reported. I also reinstalled drivers S100 of the recovery using DISM Console, but that changed nothing.

I started to 8.1 Windows PE, installed drivers S100, formatted the virtual disk, copied the data which he, and everything works fine. The only problem is when I try to boot from the system drive (which has no problem) with the new installed disks.

When I put the old records, the system boots normally with no reconfiguration required. The VDM to start automatically remembers the discs and the table. Nothing shows up in the logs event indicating that there was an error during startup. (Ntbtlog.txt) start-up newspaper, after several boots with the new drives in place, indicates that the system restarts at various times during loading drivers. There is nothing coherent in the startup log to indicate what the problem is.

The only clue I have is that, during the startup, the VDM reports the virtual drive of origin as 'NORMAL (R/W)' and the new virtual disk as "READY (R/W)", but I'm not sure of the significance of this difference or if it suggests a solution.

I can't find clues in all the newspapers about what may be the problem. If anyone has any suggestions, I will be grateful. I'll be especially grateful for the wacky suggestions.

I ran it. Nothing appeared unusual. However, I does not solve the problem.

I connect the new readers to the same SATA ports as the old records. When I connect one of them to the SATA port that had not been used as part of the original painting, the VDM S100 reported the original failed array, because readers were is more connected and showed the new table as a LOAN. The operating system then started normally.

The trick, it seems that you should remove the old virtual disk before connecting the new disks on the same ports.

  • Alignment of drive for PERC 5i SATA RAID 5

Forum of HI, I read many posts and document best practice VMWare on alignment of disc and I have a question.

The document and the posts I've read all assume that SAN is used for storage. My question is:

These guidelines work for storage space including 4 SATA 7200 drive RAID 5 array using PERC 5i as well?

I created my VMFS using then the fdisk command gui Lu gave 128 as a point of departure but on the comments file systems. Keeping in mind that I'm not using SAN shouldn't I always align the partition of windows NT from 64 K or should it be something else?

    Please notify.

    Thank you!

And my question is can I I align comments to 64 K victory discs or should the number to be anything?

The starting block indicates where to START data.  So it is divisible by 64K, that's fine.  It should be the default value, which is 64 k, however Windows 2008 using a slightly different boot / MBR table, which is why marketing to the address which is 1024K, but I would no Windows 2003 start to 1024, 64K will be fine.

  • Problems with the raid PERC S100 controller

    Hi all

Recently, I bought a Dell R410 server with a raid PERC S100 without search controller before that. Problem is that I need to install a Linux OS and as it seems, this controller does not support linux.

Because I was in a hurry, but they can also help in my situation, I bought the following cables:

Apparently, I don't have a slot for connecting the cables... :)

So my question is. Is there a solution to this problem? I tried to disable/remove the S100, but the MB does not detect hard drives. The server is with a bottom of basket.

I actually found this thread in the forums-> http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/906/t/19472600.aspx, but unfortunately, I couldn't find the cables posted in the thread.

Here is an actual photo of the machine:

This server will support the SAS 6/ir, Perc 6 / i and controllers Perc H700. you will need to run linux on this server. The SAS 6/ir is limited to RAID 0 and 1; Perc run several RAID levels.

If you get the SAS 6/ir or Perc 6 / i, you will need this cable:

69V70 cable, 6i/SAS PERC 6i/5 at the bottom of basket of 6G

For the H700, need you also this cable:

  • Disc question PowerEdge T300 Perc 6 / I Raid 5

I have a PowerEdge T300 with Perc 6 / I and Raid 5 with 3 hot swap 15 k 146 GB disks and 1 hot spare in the fourth slot from the backplane. Drive HARD 0 is orange flashing while HDD1 thru HDD3 are green. I have a new hard drive to install. I have to restart under the Perc 6 / I installation, disable HDD0, then turn the power off and replace it and walk back in Perc 6 / I and add the new disk and restart. Drive HARD 0 rebuild in the table or what I need to assign the new drive as the new hot spare? Are there instructions on how to replace a drive like that?

    Thank you

    Mark

Once in the controller and you can just physically pull the failed drive. After removing, then wait a moment and insert the new drive. If the virtual disk has been degraded, then it should start to rebuild on its own once the replacement is inserted. If the virtual disk has been Optimal, then physically pull the drive and insert the replacement. Then in the BIOS OF THE controller, you can configure the replacement as a hot spare.

  • PERC H330 and Raid 5, try adding another SATA drive raid 5 array

    Hi all

I have one server PowerEdge T330 with 8 slots of disc and have currently 3 SATA drives running a raid 5 configuration.  I have a virtual disk configured for Raid (must).

The operating system recognizes the disk and is able to use the resources...

My desire is to add another hard drive to the table (hard disks of the same size, same brand, etc.) with 4 disks without losing any data.

I looked in the settings of the iDrac and the only adjustment was to add the new disk as a global hot spare or a hot spare dedicated to the virtual drive.

I also looked in the BIOS and do not see a way to add the new drive.

Does anyone know how to increase capacity?  I can blow the virtual drive if necessary and start over without problem.  I intend to gradually accomplish this Act until adding 8 disks. (5 times).

    Help!

    Hello.

Management controllers RAID and tables is not made in the BIOS iDRAC or systems. For the management of the RAID (virtual disks) arrays, you have OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA). If not installed, see the link: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=TK61C once installed, go to-> Storage->-> H330 PERC controllers-> virtual disk--> sub tasks available-> select reconfigure and run-> then check a box to add the fourth disk on the next page. Follow the prompts and allows you to extend your range of RAID 5.

  • PowerEdge T110 II/PERC H200 drive Expansion Question

We have a server PowerEdge T110-11 with two 600 GB 15K SCSI disks in a RAID 1 configuration via a PERC H200 controller.  This server is used in a production environment.  We want to add an extra internal drive on the server, but the readers (or reader) not be used for archival purposes.  Check-in will be only done periodically at defined intervals.  The plan of production a need for speed and redundancy of the RAID/SCSI setting.  The drive to check-in will not.  I don't know what is supported by the PERC H200 beyond two units SCSI that we have.  How would you recommend that we do that?  Should we buy two SATA drives and use them in a RAID 1 configuration as we have for SCSI drives?  All readers are saved on a Dell RD1000 disk cartridge system, in a way.  I don't know if we need RAID for this disk to archive, because it will be backed up regularly.  Others grow here to use an external USB drive for archiving, due to their very low cost.

Thanks for your suggestions, you can offer.

    Hello.

Support-T110 II up to 6 hard drives. It wouldn't hurt to implement these drives in RAID 1 or RAID 5 (for more than 2 disks) configuration just in case of failure before the archive is saved. If your archive is not so important, you can set the drives in RAID 0.

  • Information about the PERC S100 driver

I have a PowerEdge T110 server with a PERC S100 driver.  I need to restore my system with Windows 2008 SMB o/s.  When I enter in the system recovery options, it ask me to driver for the reader. Does anyone know what hard disk driver, I can you and where I can get it.  I checked on the Dell Support site. I can't seem to find the driver that I don't need to install.

You need the driver disk version, and you must run it to extract the files before using it.

If by "SMB" you mean "SBS", will need you the 64-bit version:

  • RAID5 Perc S100 to T110 failed after power failure

I have 4x2TB disks in a Raid 5.  The screenshot below shows the failure even if all 4 discs seem to be online.  I was able to run the system utility to run a short as self-test on the 4 discs and all this happened.  They also passed the SMART test.

I don't know why there is a virtual drive non-RAID since I have none of the extra drives.  And, when selected, there is no physical drive assigned.

Nobody knows what could happen and how to recover from this?  My system does not start at this time.  It should be started with a Windows Home Server 2011 (equivalent to Windows 2008R2) and there should be 2 partitions.  A small 60 GB boot volume and a volume 5.4 TB share.

Thanks for any help on this.  I need recover the photos of the share volume and that you may need to send to a data recovery service, if I can't fix it myself.

Note: I tried to start after removing the disconnection of each disk individually he did nothing except to display the drive disconnected missing in the physical drive list.

A last thought would be...  Would it be useful to install Windows in a 5th player and try to run manage open or other RAID Utility?

Yes, it might help. Since it is a controller function driver there is limited inside the BIOS of the controller functionality. OMSA would provide probably more information within an operating system. You must use a USB or other external media since the S100 takes only supported 4 drives.

  • PowerEdge R710 and perc h700, disc not visible in OS

    Hey,.

We have PowerEdge R710 with perc h700 raid 5 controller physical drives under raid6 running. We have recently added a sixth of the road which is much smaller (512 against 4 TBS) we want to just format and use it as a normal drive in the OS (Ubuntu 12.04.5).

However, the drive is not visible in the operating system. When you enter the settings of the RAID controller that it says that the drive is READY but not configured and all the options to the title of operations are grayed out. How can we make this hard drive is visible in the operating system?

    See you soon

The H700 does NOT support non RAID, so all records first must be configured on the controller, before its presentation to the BONE. You must configure (initialize) as a single drive RAID 0.

    Hello

I have a PowerEdge T310 with 4 disks hotswap (raid 6), and his running dangerously low on space...

Can I just buy 4 new larger discs and (one by one) replace the 'old'?

If I can expand the virtual drive or I have to create a second virtual disk with the new free space?

    Hello RobertQuinn,

Here's the way taken in charge to get extra space for your system.

    (1) get a backup of your data

    (2) remove the table

    (3) to re-create the table with the big readers

    (4) reinstall OS if have a BONE on the front table

    (5) to restore the backup data

Now, it is also a way not taken in CHARGE that you can do it as well & to do this as it is as follows:

    (1) get a backup of your data.

    (2) rebuild each disc large table.

    (3) after all rebuilt Delete array.

    (4) after the table has been deleted and then make a change

    (5) does NOT init the virtual disk

    (6) create new array with Available space

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
