  Hi all owners of HP products.

  I bought laptop Compaq Presario CQ40-106TU 3 weeks ago, until now, when I play music or movies, all 5 ~ 6 minutes I hear a short noise distorted through the headphones or the speakers.

  I recently re-installed the OS on my laptop (the previous operating system was the same). I wanted to do a clean install and I accidentally deleted the system reserved partition which was about 300 MB.
  

  The installation is completed without any problems. After installation, I noticed that the native resolution became 1200 x 800 (3:2), where it was originally 1280 x 800 (16:10) and also the display is detected as "Mobile PC Display. I went through the update of Windows, but it also could not detect my drivers. I went to the official site of HP TechSupport (here's the link), but there is no drivers for Windows 8.

  Then I tried the Intel site and found drivers, them, but still nothing happened.

  I googled for 2 days to resolve this problem, found nothing that worked. I have re-installed, Reset, refresh, auto repaired, the PC from the windows installation CD, nothing worked

  I had used Windows Vista, 7 and 8 on this laptop. The previous version of windows, I used for 1.5 years is the same as the one I installed today on the same CD. Previously, when I installed windows and went to Windows Update, it detected all my drivers and updated their. I had nothing to fear.

  I downloaded the latest version of the bios and flashed. Previous bios version was same but now my resolution is 1280 x 800

  I did not myself before recovery disks, but I will of course in the future.

  Since I have no way of identifying what actually caused the problem, I'll stay happy with the solution that I found. This thread can now be marked "resolved".

• which processors can take a motherboard supported very 4101p (494035-001) jal50 used on compaq presario cq40?

  I have a compaq presario cq40-142tu, with a celeron t1600 installed. I want to replace this with a faster processor but can't find a site that lists all the processors that are compatible with the motherboard, which is a worm of 4101P jal50 1 or 494035-001.  as the celeron t1600 has a front side bus at 667 mhz, I guess procies upgrade as possible would be a t7600 to better or at least a t5500, since these procies run at the fsb even.  any advice on where to find a list of processors supported for this motherboard would be much appreciated.

  It took some time, but I finally got my hands on a t5850.  Installed and it works like a charm! a celeron t1600 it is now on a core 2 duo procie.  also improved the hard disk in the series hitachi 160 GB 5400 RPM to a 640 GB 7200 RPM samsung. also changed the RAM of 2 GB (1x2Go) tech of micron for gskill 4 GB (2x2gb) RAM.  OS is win 7 ultimate 64-bit, standard was vista 32.  one thing I noticed, though. the Rams are running at 667 mhz even though they are valued at 800, and I have absolutely no idea on how to change this. Publication of the research on some more and I think that the jury can also support 800 mhz fsb procies, might try that also later on. So far I am very satisfied with the improvement. Oh, to be on the safe side, be sure to upgrade to the latest version of the bios. mine was initially f.14, not f66a. problem solved!

  I think that HP has released/posted drivers for all models that will be supported. All have support do not at this stage are not likely to see them.

  Windows 10 includes a large number of drivers for the hardware older - but no way to know for sure before the upgrade. I'd certainly do Windows 7 recovery discs before you perform the upgrade.

• Presario CQ40 does not start in Windows

  My cousin has a Compaq Presario CQ40 (w / Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit), who has a serious problem at startup, it shows a blank screen with only blinking cursor in the top left of the display after the Compaq logo.

  I tried to load the default in the BIOS Setup, but nothing happened. I also tried to insert my DVD of Windows 7 to check any problem at the start, but it won't let me boot from it, just another black screen with blinking cursor. The only successful "start" method is to use a Ubuntu via flash (Live USB) drive.

  Help, please.

  P.S. It use Windows 7 for a clean install, without any backup OS preinstalled this laptop /recovery.

  In fact I solved. After you restart the live USB laptop I can boot from the Windows DVD (previously the I can't). So I choose 'repair' the DVD and type "bootrec /fixboot" and then restart, and it works.

  You have a few options as I see it.

  First of all, unplug the AC adapter & battery then press and hold the power button on the unit for 30 seconds then check switch on/off the unit.

  Go into Device Manager and uninstall the driver and restart and unit automatically installs the driver.

  Try to run the system restore to the date where the unit was working fine.

  Try to update the driver from hp.com for Audio & Bios site.

  You machine has 2 GB of RAM in two slots curently (1 GB each)- 2048 MB (1 x 2048 MB):

  It supports 8 GB (4 GB) total. Yes, you can switch to 6 GB. RAM are cheap now, you have to throw away two 1 GB parts - account up to 4 + 2 or 4 + 4 won't cost you much more.

  From the Crucial scan your machine accepts 8 GB of RAM and currently there only 2 GB in a slot, another beach is empty. Now, if you want to:

  (a) be upgraded to 4 GB if you want to keep the OS, you have to buy the 2 GB of Crucial, 32-bit

  (b) if you want to switch to 8 GB, no point (sorry my typos on my previous answer) to maintain 32-bit Windows. You can buy 2 x 4 GB, you also need 64-bit operating system and 32-bit to 64-bit are a clean install, not upgrade.

  Your model should ICH9 sata driver sliptreamed in the installer CD of XP. If you did it right, you'll BSOD error.

  Use Nlite to sliptream ICH9 sata driver.

  My product is originally PC laptop Compaq Presario CQ40-327TU with Windows Vista Home edition.  Recently, I installed Windows 7 in my laptop on USB.  Installation went well, but it does not format the C drive.  I installed on the C drive, where Windows Vista installed previously.  After installation my laptop works very well.  Sometimes the screen turns white (black) and to come back after a few minutes and in the notification area it shows "display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows Vista (R) stopped responding and successfully recovered."like that, I get a notification.  In my information system, I cheked it presents Windows 7 OS.  It only happens when I switch to different windows or applications.  I checked the graphics cards in Device Manager and it shows ' Mobile Intel(r) 45 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1).  When I tried to update the graphics card it already showed uptodate.  Can I wait for a solution to my problem here.   Also after the OS is installed, I found Windows.old folder on C drive.  Can I removed this file?
