  • If you install Oracle 11 g XE with active windows firewall APEX is dead

My first installation of Oracle 11g XE was carried out with the active windows firewall.
The database configuration was completed in bad condition because post install scripts did not stand because port 1521 has been locked.
You got the "Get Started" link did not stand ok and browser got an error page.

Allways install Oracle database with the non-active windows firewall.

You can read in the documentation, installation...

    2.1.2 the Windows Firewall configuration

If you plan to install Oracle Database XE on a computer running the Windows Firewall, which was introduced in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, and then connect from another computer, verify that the firewall has not been configured to block all communication between the following inbound ports. These ports are the default ports that users Oracle Database XE.

    1521: oracle database listener
2030: oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server
    8080: Transaction oracle HTTP Server

but that apply to connect from another computer at your facility, not the installation process.
I think that the documentation must contain "disable windows firewall before you try to install.
Allways install Oracle database with the non-active windows firewall.

Or add the listener and apex port numbers to the list of exceptions.

  • Rules of Windows Firewall: enabled v. not activated, leave c. block, when used in combination.

In the rules for inbound Windows Firewall, what is the difference between these 3 settings?

1, 'name': 'DHCP Server wireless PAN', 'Enabled': 'Yes', 'Action': 'Block '.
2, 'name': 'DHCP Server wireless PAN', 'Enabled': 'No', 'Action': 'allow '.
3, 'name': 'DHCP Server wireless PAN', 'Enabled': 'No', 'Action': 'Block '.

    Details.

This defines whether the server DHCP Wireless PAN can use 'Protocol Type': "All", through "Local port": "All Ports", "Remote port": "all the Ports '.

For which the firewall settings: will of 1 or 2 or 3, a Wireless PAN DHCP server (probably external) have access to my computer?

Help "Windows Firewall with advanced security:
'Enabled' == 'No': '... causes [firewall] to stop the comparison of the packets to the network rule', while 'The Action' == 'Block': blocks "... no matter what network packet that matches the firewall rule criteria".

For firewall settings of: 1, 2, or 3, access will be blocked?

It would be tempting to say, 'All', but this judgment doesn't jibe with what helps. Specifically, #2 & #3 are both ignored by the firewall because 'Enabled' == 'No': "... causes [firewall] to stop the comparison of the packets to the network rule. So the question is: since there is no 'Action' taken, the firewall will leave packages or it will block the?

In other words, what is the default Action?

  • While on internet, set Windows Firewall to 'block all '.

Original title: Firewall Windows 'block all '.

With the help of windows Firewall in Win7.

Is there a way to easily set the firewall to 'Block All' (comings and goings) activity while I'm connected to the internet.

I'm used to the use of 3rd party firewall and some have the choice of check "block all activity" on a right click of the icon 'taskbar '.

I will use if go to leave the PC while on the net for more then a few seconds.

I ask because firewalls 3rd party having this option does not work well with windows7.

I don't want a process such as the control panel / advanced settings/unnecessary procedures / make / do that / go away/come back / freeze the system.

Then having to do it all again in reverse to be reconnected.

A simple one click / two click process that works.

Thank you to provide us with an opportunity to help Microsoft Community, we are happy to help you.

A firewall can help prevent hackers or malicious software (such as worms) to access your computer through a network or the Internet. A firewall can also help stop your computer from malware sent to other computers.

If you want to block all connections using the Windows Firewall, please follow the steps mentioned below.

    1. Open the start menu.
    2. In the search box, search for "Windows Firewall".
    3. In the search results, select "Firewall with Advanced Security Windows".
    4. In the 'Présentation' section, check to see which profile is active. By default, it should 'private profile '.
    5. Click on the link marked "Windows Firewall properties.
    6. Select the tab 'private profile '.
    7. Make sure that "Firewall State" is set to "on (recommended)."
    8. Under "Incoming connections" click the menu drop down and select "Block all connections."
    9. Under "Outbound connections" click the menu drop down and select "block".
    10. Next to "Protected network connections", click on the button "Customize".

  • Windows Firewall: "Public network" - what is it?

The cropped image is from a screenshot of "Control Panel" > "Windows Firewall".

Watch 'Public networks' above. It says not 'connected '. Huh? I can browse the Internet, while 'public network' means for Microsoft?

1, I seek to understand the firewall rules.
2, I guess the 'unidentified network' is the VirtualBox Host-Only connection to my Linux VM.

3, 'this' on the side of my router is my LAN. I guess that's what Microsoft means by 'private network '.

4, the other side of my router is the Internet.

5, when I initiate a connection, my computer sends a packet to my router (via my ' private network'? How else, huh?). My router it then goes to the Internet (a ' public network'? If the Internet is not a public network, what is?)

If all this happens normally whereas my "public network" is "not connected", then what is my 'public network '?

  • Impossible to activate permanent "network discovery and file sharing" in advanced sharing without turning windows firewall at the wide service.

    Environment:

I have a workgroup Windows 8 pro PC with all updates from Windows update. The PC is connected via WiFi (home) to a router (the same thing happens if I am connected to the router directly via RJ45). It's my "private network (NAT). I have the Windows Firewall is enabled in its default configuration. I use "Windows Defender" as my protection\firewall of virus software.  "When I go to: change options for sharing different network profiles" under advanced sharing options. I try to turn on file sharing and network discovery in the private profile. It shows that "the private sector is the current profile. The radio button lights. However, when I go to the file Explorer / network I got the message ' network discovery and file sharing are turned off. " The network computers and devices are not visible. Click here to change... " I click to change, however when I click to change it keeps returning and gives me the same message. I then go in ""network control and Internet\Network and sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings " and the option buttons in private profile for the network discovery and file sharing are turned off."

There were some comments to the previous launch, which also referred to this issue. But today they was a version of update 35.0.1 who may have sent it. Please upgrade to the latest version and post if this still happens.

  • Ethernet and Windows Firewall

    Hello

I need to know what Windows Firewall rules must be defined for TestStand/CVI see the ARP protocol. We see nothing, no ethernet traffic.

I have a system (Army Gold Master 7, using TestStand and CVI) who has "standard" Government firewall rules We strive to communicate by Ethernet to specialized devices and we see no traffic unless disable us the firewall. We are not on the internet (not allowed by gov). The specialized devices send a broadcast request for IP but the software it never sees.

I added (incoming and outgoing) rules to allow traffic to and from my application (CVI app that does a lot of TestStand active X calls). In the logs I saw something on cviproxy so I put rules to allow that. I've set allow rules for TestStand Runtime engine. I also disabled Windows defender.

Any suggestions? BTW, we will not disable the firewall once it is deployed.

    Thank you

    Hey Joe,

I did some checking, and generally, CVI does not implement itself - treatment rather ARP packet, it uses Windows built in functionality to receive ARP packets and assign IP addresses. ARP is contained in the Protocol Ethernet himself and is at a lower level than the concept of ports, so that Windows Firewall cannot directly block ARP packets.

Your software CVI aims to process ARP packets in some way, or are you just wanting to communicate with devices via Ethernet? If it's the last, then the assignment of intellectual property should arrive outside the CVI and regarding the CVI you must only make sure that the correct port has been opened for communication with the specialized unit. This port number would be depends on the configuration of the device itself.

When you disable the firewall and are able to communicate with the device, how is the appliance gets its IP address? For example, it is automatically assigned by Windows or your router (with DHCP) or it has a static IP address assigned to him? It is possible that the IP address is assigned, but given that the specific communication port is blocked by the firewall, the communication can occur.

I hope this helps a little, and if you can give us the answers to these questions, we can provide I hope to better understand the situation.

  • Windows Firewall is down all packets coming from a PPTP site to site VPN

I have a PPTP VPN site-to-site built with RRAS. The branch server is a Windows Server 2003, and the main Office Server is a Windows Server 2008 R2. Public profile Windows Firewall log shows that all packages of the branch are declining.

Curiously, I can access all the main office desktop computers.

    The configuration is:

    Main office:
    Network address: 192.168.0.0/24
IP address of the server: 192.168.0.3/24

    Branch:
    Network address: 192.168.1.0/24
IP address of the server: 192.168.1.1/24

I guess that both tunnels are ok because RRAS shows that interfaces are connected. Each PPTP server interface receives an IP address assigned by remote RRAS.

There is no set of packet filters.
There are firewall rules allow ICMPv4 inbound and outbound traffic.

When I try to ping 192.168.0.3 from the Branch Office Server, Windows Firewall records in the log of public profile:

    2011-09-28 16:10:44 DROP ICMP 192.168.0.102 192.168.0.3 - 0-0 0 - RECEIVE

where 192.168.0.102 is the address PPP assigned to the Head Office of RRAS.

Any help will be appreciated and very helpful.

    Thank you.
