Problems to connect a wireless router to computer

well, I have a windows vista desktop computer. I had remote access to my old House. I recently moved in with my sister and she has an acer laptop and a netgear wireless router. Ive been trying connect my computer to the wireless router, but it won't work. its plugged in the right place and everything and when I try to detect network hardware and settings, it keeps showing up as "windows doesn't detect any wireless network hardware" I do not understand why because its hip sister said she had a disc to install his wireless router but it no longer has the drive. do I need this disk to install the router or what? any help is appreciated, thank you.

Hi keV ann,.

The hardware you need for wireless technology includes the following:
1. wireless network adapter. One for each computer on your network (laptops almost always have these built in).
2. wireless access point or router (recommended).

For more information, see setting up a wireless network
NOTE: Laptops have a wireless button; Press the button to turn it on.
We also recommend you to check the configuration of the wireless router. Please check the routers manual.

Kind regards
Syed

  • Satellite A505 - sees, but cannot connect to, Wireless Router Win7

I have a laptop Toshiba A505-S6980 running the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

It worked fine a few months previously, to connect wireless to my O2 2 wireless router (the notebook has a REALTEK RTL8191SE wireless card).

I also have a desktop running XP computer that I use to connect to the same router. While on the desktop, I noticed several weeks ago that the router has been implemented with no WPA and WEP security, so I decided to change the router to WPA. The desktop PC was fine with this, but the laptop complained and wouldn't connect, failure of authentication and just stating "unable to connect to xxxxx". At the time I assumed it just couldn't handle the WPA authentication for some reason any and decided that I would probably turn to WEP to a later date to make it work again. At some point, I remove a ' O2 Connection Manager ", which had been installed when I bought a 3G dongle O2, where he has confused the issue, but it made no difference. In the meantime, I tried to connect the laptop using a wired connection and worked well.

I now (a few weeks later) decided that I wanted to use the wireless laptop then redefine the router to WEP expect this to work, but it didn't. As with WPA, he did not get past authentication when I put the key to security in. So, I try to understand the problem...

    What happens;

    (1) the wireless laptop sees my router (and neighbors), but just cannot connect.

    (2) I can connect with a laptop computer on the same USB wireless adapter.

    (3) I can connect the laptop to the router using a wired connection, and there is no problem.

    (4) my desktop running XP computer can connect to the router as WEP or WPA Wireless if the router is ok.

    (5) this worked several weeks ago!

    What I've tried;

    (1) I have installed the latest REALTEK RTK8191SE driver.

    (2) I tried to disable the security on the router, no joy.

    (3) I deleted all the profiles of network on the laptop.

    (4) I have tried with Norton antivirus and firewall disabled (but have not uninstalled) but no help.

    (5) I tried to do a restore of the system to the closest possible point and no help.

    (5) I uninstalled the wireless network adapter and its driver in Device Manager... Windows 7 can see the of it after a reboot and re - installed (using the old default driver), but it does not work. Then, I re-installed the latest version from REALTEK to ensure that it is up-to-date.

    What's weird is that

    (1) it works ok using the wireless USB adapter

    (2) the integrated REALTEK wireless adapter works to a point such that it can SEE my router, connect simply do not

    (3) authentication failure almost instantly

My suspicions are that an automatic update of Windows 7 or the O2 Connection Manager has somehow screwed it upward. I have uninstalled the O2 connection manager and tried to uninstall the automatic updates but there are many of them and I don't know how far back, I need to go. Also, because it authentication immediately, it seems that it is not giving him a chance to actually work.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can proceed or had a similar problem?

This is a really silly situation. In any case, I recommend you to use the Toshiba WLAN drivers only.
I put t know what Realtek module is inside but try please install driver WLAN http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads

All that you have done is logic and I think I will try the same thing.
Have you tried to connect to WEP or WPA is disabled? I mean free WLAN without protection.
Have you tried to connect your laptop to a friend's router?

I really put t know what is the problem here but there are a few bad setting it.

  • Unable to connect encrypted wireless router.

    System:

    XP Professional version 2002 SP2.

    Intel wireless wifi link 4965AG.

    Here's my question:

At one point, the wireless router had no security encryption and I could access without worries.

In my absence router security has been formatted and now I can't access. Located keys and input for connection - no joy. Router error message is out of scope (showing full signal strength - I should mention that 3 others in my office can connect without a problem and I have no problem connecting to my home wireless with WEP encryption).

Open 'show the wireless connection' then open advance settings.

Click on 'general tab' and make sure that the IP address and DNS have the value 'Auto '.

Click on "wireless networks" and manually add the router. WPA2-personal network authentication and AES data encryption (this information has been lifted of my colleagues who has no problems PC connection). Therefore, I set up my PC as WPA - PSK (no option for WPA2-Personal) and AES and enter the correct key.

I checked the box 'automatically connect when range' and approved my way. Still no connection. Clicked on signal connect manually and get "Please wait...". "but nothing happens - no error either.

I tried any variation in the encryption of data and authentication and verified/double concievable checked the key but nothing helped.

    DOE anyone have ideas?

    See you soon.

The problem is that your network is WPA2 and your PC does not support WPA.

You must install Windows XP SP3, which adds support for WPA2.  See this article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389

  • I have my premium photosmart hp connected to a router. my computer is connected to the same network. the s

I have a HP Photosmart Premium.  I have my computer 64-bit windows 7 and the printer connected directly to the router.  Both are connected to the internet, but when I try to print from the computer to the printer, the computer tells me that the printer is offline.  When I go into the settings of the printer, it is online.  How can I fix it?

I resolved myself and marked resolved right after that I left my 3rd comment. I leave a post telling the others what I did? Sure.

I had to reinstall the same exact printer all over again and this time instead of install under USB, I installed it under Wired option.  If you do not have the installation disc, you can download it from this site.  If you encounter problems with the radio after its been used with a USB connection, this can work for you too.

    Hello:

No wonder you had difficulties to find the wireless driver.

According to the list of parts for your laptop, it comes with the adapter PCIe half minicards (HMC) WiFi Realtek 8188GN.

The driver for this model of card is not on the page support and driver for your model.

Here is the link to the driver for this card.

  • Help to connect a wireless router. Question of address/LAN IP.

I'm trying to set up a router without wire-gbroadband of Linksys (model wrt54g2) to my dell dimension e310 desktop. Follow the 4 easy steps to pluging in there and get an error message saying that it is not detected. Tried to reset and reconnect. At the command ipconfig with a dell oncall support, who told me that my ip address is invalid, and something about the connection to the local network. So my question now. I'm obviously connected to the internet, how can I have an invalid ip address? Should I contact my internet service provider (comcast) on this subject? Also how do you know it that the LAN is connected correctly? I was told that it must be in automatic mode. I go to network connections and have Local Area Connection (the network connection intel pro/100 ve) and local area (rca usb cable modem), all Connection2 two connected. What should be the settings on these?
