  I bought the upgrade to Windows 7: I got a PC upgrade disk and a windows upgrade disk. I launched the first disk, then the other.
  There was no particular error in these facilities.

  Since this upgrade, my PC doesn't recognize USB keys while they work perfectly with the previous version of windows with this pc. They are normally key usb plug-and-play. When I launched the update of windows, the driver exists, but installation failed in error with a message of access problem.
  I check that the firewall does not block access. I installed the latest version of the BIOS

  You can try the Vista drivers because most of them also works on Windows 7, but it's all for the moment you can do.

  So I made sure that I have few of them created (USB3 & USB2, big 32 GB, small 256 MB, different OS bootable EFI)

  None of the tested USB gets listed in the EFI shell (all screenshots are made using the same USB on Windows 7 x 64 & ML 10.8.5)

  You should be able to boot from the ISO that you downloaded and select the existing USB drive as the installation drive. When the installation program detects an existing installation of ESXi and VMFS datastore you can choose to upgrade ESXi and preserve the VMFS datastore.

  Just take a backup before you do so that you have a roll back option.

  The BIOS is certainly able to boot from a USB flash drive.
  You need to connect the USB to the computer, then turn on the unit and press F12
  Now you should be able to see the USB flash drive like device starting.
  Select this option and press ENTER.

  I'm trying to start a Lenovo T400 laptop computer from a USB key.  The USB key contains a version of Ghost that I start in order to image the laptop to my Ghost server.  I can successfully start a Ghost on a CD session, but I have to change the SATA settings in the BIOS to achieve this.  I'm trying to get away from the CD and change the BIOS.

  Whenever I try to start, I get the message "Missing Operating System".  Successfully, I can boot and picture one boatload of Dell computers with the same USB key, so I don't think it's the drive.  On the laptop's operating system is Windows XP.  The USB stick uses command.com Windows 98 to start and is formatted in FAT32.

  Hey, Zoltan-thanks for the post, it was very helpful.  I'm not fluent in Linux that I'd probably, but your mention of the HP trainer got me interested in it.  I reformatted the drive USB with the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and then copied back all my files.  I can now successfully start a Lenovo T400 with my USB.  I was using a Windows 98 bootdisk to fdisk and then format the drive.  (This is my first attempt at this and a colleague suggested it was the right way to go)  Even if the system with the USB drive as C drive, I guess he doesn't properly format it as the active drive.

  I have created a startup disk, so much for my new Mac Pro 2013 and finally to put in my old Mac Pro silver tour 2012.

  I did a clean install of El Capitan on an external HD. Nothing else on the subject. The Western Digital 2 TB Green is in a pregnant Sabre, connected to a USB 3.0 hub, which is connected to the new Mac Pro 2013. I tried a couple of different ways to select external HD and boot to it, but I keep priming in Macintosh HD SSD installed in the Mac Pro (2013).

  Yes, exactly.

  The reason is that a USB Hub arrives too late to be seen at boot time, so the drive is not available to start from.

  It is also a problem for the use of 'hang up the keys' at startup - beyond the hub keyboard is not visible at startup.

• EliteBook 820 G2: Start from USB - does not take into account my choice and starts hard disk anyway!

  Hi all!

  I just got a new EliteBook 820 G2 and I'm trying to dual boot with Ubuntu. I have it on a USB hard drive that I used to install successfully on a couple other machines (dual-boot a Lenovo T430 and also on a desktop AMD new construction). I cannot go into the options to start with Esc or F9 and the disk appears, but there just ignores it and goes straight to Windows.

  I don't have the partitioned external drive, then perhaps that he is not the right one? Seems funny that he would have worked on two other systems, but perhaps a quirk of the HP BIOS? I don't have a simple USB key with sufficient capacity to hold the installer, but do you think I should try to borrow one for that?

  The only suggestion I can offer would be to go into the BIOS and see if there is a setting to auto USB for USB3 ports.

  If it is set to USB3, you cannot start normally port USB3.

  USB3 can be the default setting.

  The auto adjustment allows the ports work as two USB3 ports when you run windows, and the USB3 drivers are loaded or USB2 ports when not in Windows (for example, when you need to boot from a USB flash drive).
