Question of Tungsten E2

Tungsten E2 device Palm Desktop on Win XP Pro SP3 OEM Dell machine.

Looking for advice to purge the data of number of years, I have acquired a new device from today since my original unit is in his last breath.

What I try to do is, purge the data for a given time period that I'm no longer in need of this information of office o/s front of HotSynching with the new device.

Bad domain, please move.

Thank you

Please lock thread I found a solution that does not work for me.

The purge data through the user interface of Office PDA (or) don't offer enough options to purge data.

I hope Palm aka HP has put in place the best data protection, etc. in later model PDA.

  • Tungsten E2 two questions: alert fatal & import data

    Hello

I have two problems that are interrelated. Also, I have a Windows Vista

#1 when I go to my 'task' all data converted into a bunch of gibberish (symbols, letters, punctuation, etc.).  When I tried to remove the info, a message ' fatal alert: line 1648, out of range "appears.  It allows me to reset only, what I do, but it doesn't solve the problem.  I tried a soft reset without result.  Of course, there next option is a hard reset, problem is that I was not able to sync (which is what I would do first to back up my data) lately because of the following problem...

#2 I've updated to the latest version of Palm Desktop 6.2.  I had my Palm for almost 5 years so I don't have the original CD it came with.  I backed up my data from the old version of office to my hard drive according to the instructions on this forum.  During installation, it asked to synchronize your handheld.  However, the hot sync stopped on the part of the task and would never end. So I had to cancel, which did not work.  Finally shut down my computer and reset to zero pocket computer to stop the HotSync process.  However, I noticed that if I try to skip the step during installation asking to synchronize with your handheld there is a message staing something like, skip this step could cause errors... "Then I thought I'd go without the tasks & memos (gibberish took place in my memos, as well).  However, I don't know how or if I can import my old data into the new Palm Desktop without Hot Sync.  I tried to search for instructions on this site, but could not find. Appreciate any help.

The first thing I would suggest is that you get and install two free utilities:

    1. DbFixIt www.pimlicosoftware.com and
    2. NVBackup (use google... it's all over the place)

I understand that you are having problems not being not able to Hotsync, you need to get these utilities on your E2 with a SD card reader.  Download on your computer, copy the files .prc on/palm/launcher on the SD card folder.  Once the applications on the card, you can use the copy function to copy the memory card the device apps.

The first application identifies corrupted on the handheld databases, allows you to remove corrupt entries or pay a fee to register $13, repairs.  It's what looks like your question 'Task' to me.  The second application allows you to perform a full backup of the entire contents of your handheld, that if data is stripped with your Hotsync efforts, you can quickly and easily restore.

Question: what kind of Vista your computer is running... 32-bit or 64 - bit.  If it is 64 bit, you can't sync via USB cable and won't be able to use the Bluetooth with your E2 synchronization.

  • Tungsten E2 - fatal error

I was recently given the management of all 200 or more computers Tungsten E2 handheld.  Many of them began to suffer from the same issue.  What happens is, at random times, the Palm will display a "Fatal Error" and must be reinitialized.

'Soft' reset the Palms will work in some cases but not in others.  Sometimes a "reset" will temporarily fix the error, sometimes the error returns immediately.  The error return finally in all cases I've seen so far.  I was wondering if the internal flash modules that use palms to 'RAM' could be going bad.  I'm already passed through several stages of troubleshooting try to solve this problem and keep these handheld computers works on a limited budget.

My question is this: is there a way to permanently solve this problem?  Or is this a sign that the devices are just old and in cutting process full?

Ok. Sorry for the link of RAM test. I have limited access to the internet at work so I just saw the link on the Google search with the address. I'll see what I can come up with when I come home, and you can search without restriction.

    Here is a link I found about the fatal error message;

    http://KB.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/KB/na/Tungsten/E2/unlocked/solutions/article/28963_en.html

If you have the behavior with no apps installed and no hotsync data, point to the device itself. As you said, it may be due to the age of the unit. You can try all the resets listed in the following article and see if one of those which may solve the problem.

    http://KB.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/KB/na/Tungsten/E2/unlocked/solutions/article/887_en.html

A question that can be activated on the handheld is that the digitizer can go bad, especially if you have problems of calibration of the screen. I do not think that the fatal mistake would cause by the digitizer however, it would be simply cannot meet with the taps. I have not seen a fatal error when the screen is no longer as you have described.

Here is a link to the page of downloads for the E2, check the downloads and see if you need to install one of these. I can see the light of day of saving time update and an update of the Security Panel. If you have not installed, I suggest to install those and see if it can resolve the issue.

  • again transfer Tungsten E2

I'm trying to transfer the data to a new Tungsten E2. Done this before so easily - not this time. Can't understand why Hot Synch option choose PC to the handheld or PC organizer to option isn't gone. Fear that I deleted the data from the PC with the empty unit (new). No CD with the new device so had to use the download. (I have the CD for my old Tungsten E2).

I have all my data on my old Tungsten E2, but will not synch until I know for sure that the data can be saved as the good (saved) profile. Read the manuals, but can not find instructions or a good keyword to search for.

I use it as PDA don' t need and do not want Bluetooth, phone or Internet. This should be easy, but it is not! Help, please. Leave the city soon.

    Thank you.

So quick question here because it will determine how we proceed. Have what version of HotSync you downloaded? 4.2 or 6.2. It's pretty easy to check, just open up to Palm Desktop and chose the Help menu, and then click. The version will be on the new window that opens.

  • Tungsten E dead

My Tungsten E after several years just died.  The on/off switch does nothing.  Tried a soft and hard re-set, but it only goes so far.  What appears is the Palm logo bars mobile and the first screen with bubble at the bottom right and then the screen turns white.  Any suggestions to get my very useful Palm running.  Fortunately I backed up only 3 days, so all the data is in my computer.

During the scan through this site (it's new for me), I've seen someone suggestion to try a soft reset while the PDA is connected to the charger.  It worked!  I'm embarrassed to admit that the battery was probably very low, even though I thought I had reloaded.  The warning message never came. This brings another question, that the point of contact for recharging wire is loose and she must bow so for the icon of lightning to appear on the battery icon.

  • How can I get evrything of Tungsten E2 Treo 800?

I just got a new Treo 800.  I have a Tungsten E2 and all my contacts, calendar, etc. on it must get on the Treo.  How do I do that - in simple terms please?  I have already installed the software for Windows XP and I've synced the Treo and my PC.  I want to get the files from Palm Desktop to my Tungsten E2 on the Treo.

    Thanks for help.

    Laura

You need to change the timing of program the E2 with Outlook instead of Palm Desktop.

Check your Start button/programs/Palm/PIM Sync Conduit and see if there is an entry called "sync with Outlook.  Click on it to change.

Once all these info in Outlook, your 800w will synchronize with it.

If you do not have this entry, you will need to restart your installation disc of E2 and eye for the question, "what program you want to synchronize with. Palm Desktop or Outlook? ».  Choose Outlook.

(This assumes that you have a copy of Outlook on your computer!)

  • Tungsten C - no wi - fi

I just bought a Tungsten C on eBay.  When I activate the WiFi he only says 'no signal' when I'm standing in the heat of the hot spots.

I wonder if this PDA was purchased in another country, France for example, then it would be unable to work with wi - fi British frequencies. The seller was very unhelpful, so is it possible to check what frequencies this machine is made for? Or is there another explanation for the problem?

I understand that there should be a serial number and MAC address on the back but there is only an empty metal Panel. The seller refuses all knowledge of what it is about that. The MAC address on the news of Wi - Fi is administered by 00:07:E0:13:C5:CC. Is it possible to find more information on the PDA from these information, such as serial number?

    Thank you.

    Chris

    I fixed it!

Thanks a lot for the pointers. Here's what I did:

First I watched the BrightHand.com feed WyreNut suggested (http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=96641&highlight=wifi+fix). I don't bother with the idea of twisting the case because that seem more likely to create more problems to address. The photo on this page of a Tungsten C with the back removed clearly shows that the wi - fi device is easily accessible, right there in the middle. It looked like a simple question to consider, so I decided to do exactly this.

First of all, I did a little research to find more tips on opening the case. http://www.PalmInfocenter.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29420&highlight=&SID=75e75d07a08499708d183da4ecd539d8 has some good pictures showing how to go even further with stripping down to a and C, until the replacement of the screen (this page starts watching a Zire 72 but goes on the Tungsten C below).

http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.MV?screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Rd has instructions for dismantling a lot of PDA. Strangely their photos of the tungsten c. do not show the wi - fi device, but their instructions to open the case have been invaluable:

"With the 4 screws removed you can take the back cover of the unit." The back cover is clipped so it can be difficult to remove. So trying to pull the back cover directly to the exit at the back. »

It is a tight fit, that I overcame by lever the case with a butter (not sharp) knife.

Fortunately, I already had a Torx screwdriver to remove the four screws of the housing. As well as a few other tools, it came with a spare battery that I bought for my 72 s Zire, although I did have the time of mounting the new battery because open this machine looks much more formidable than the C.

After removing the back of the case, the wi - fi device is immediately accessible. I he waved gently (wearing a braid to avoid damage to static). There was no sign of slackening, so I removed the wireless unit, which is just a small daughter card held by two screws with a connector plugged into the motherboard. There is also a lead that you can see in the photo on BrightHand.com, ranging from the right of the wi - fi device up to the top right of the PDA. I unplugged that too, but I advise anyone else not to do because the connector could easily be damaged when plugging it back, although mine was fine. So I just put everything back together again, without worrying about cleaning the contacts as they clearly were in perfect condition.

    And it worked!

It is true that the solid locked PDA downloading the home page of Google with the browser integrated, but I don't know that I can fix this, maybe by installing Opera.

To summarize, the Tungsten c wi - fi is a daughter card located on the back of the motherboard. It seems that this device can move, so that it does not have a good connection. If wi - fi does not work and that the number of MAC is correct (much information about this potential problem can be found with Google), then try this:

    1. open the housing by unscrewing the four screws with a Torx screwdriver and pulling or by levering on the back, downright backward so that the back of the case of the rest roughly parallel to the body of the PDA.

    2. remove the two screws which hold the card WiFi, then pull the wi - fi free, new device to keep parallel to the motherboard. Don't forget to take anti-static precautions;

3 put all back together and see if you have fixed it!

Thanks a lot for all the help. Next step, the Zire 72 battery...

    All the best,
    Chris

    Help!

Click on the following link for the Web page of kb.palm.com for the article about the OLERR messages in the Hotsync log.

    http://www.Palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?id=31167

Look through this article and see if you can solve the problem with calendar synchronization.

There may be the database at the source of the problem. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will search the database and then to declare the corruption. You can then search records at the origin of the problem and fix them yourself or you can buy the program and do it automatically repair records.

    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm

If you want to install DBfixit, disable the driving schedule (set to "do nothing") and the program on your handheld syncs. After the analysis and setting of the database on the handheld, the channel of exchange for Pocket Calendar replaces desktop and synchronization with the PC.

WOW... can you believe it? Answering my own question... with the help of this forum! After around the navigation and search of the "what is the most large memory cards long used successfully...? I realized that I was given as a gift a 8 MB card to add in. I had parked in the slot and when I took it off my E2 works now vigorously that it has and needs! Apparently, E2 is limited to 1 or 2 cards MB MB expansion. Well well... something learned thanks to the site which WAS helpful.

  • Tungsten E2 keyboard does not

I just upgraded my Palm Desktop software to version 6.2, carried out a hot sync, and now the 'ABC' and '123' keyboards on my Tungsten E2 are inadmissible.  Or the keyboard will open and all I get in response to the stylus is a bunch of "periods".  I called Technical Support at PalmOne, but the possibility that I was speaking with couldn't understand the question, as I've described and offers therefore no solution.  Anyone have any ideas on how to restore the function of the keyboard?

Sounds like you have enabled "Write on the screen" which transforms the entire screen in a Grafitti area.

Go to Prefs, and then the 'writing area.  See if it is triggered.
