Question of VMware HCL

Hello

On the HCL, it enumerates a SCSI Adaptec card and said there must be "aic79xx version 3.1vmw" as the device driver, does anyone know where I could find this?

Thank you

John

ESX will automatically load this driver for you.

  • Question of VMWare Fusion

    I currently use Parallels Desktop and have a question about VMWare.

    VMWare Fusion provides any software to the virtual machine which is necessary for integration with OS X?

    (Parallels made - self-installing Stardock MyColors on Windows VMs without opportunity to decline - have to uninstall later)

    I was wondering.

    The only VMware Fusion software will install automatically when creating a Machine virtual Windows is VMware Tools and it usually automatically starts, but can usually be cancelled although unless you try to isolate completely the host comments then I'd let VMware Tools installed.

  • Question about VMware Converter traffic

    Hi all

    Hoping someone can shed some light on this. I do a P2V on a physical server in site A and destination ESXi host is also at the site. However, the field 'destination' in the VMware converter must be the vCenter server which is on the Site B (via a 6 MB WAN connection) as the destination host is managed by a vCenter server. My question is if I use the server vCenter (located on a WAN connection) as a destination and then choose the host located on the local site in the converter, converter traffic flow over the WAN? Or is it just flow locally from the Source to the Destination and just use the vCenter server as a server of type "authentication" for the initial Setup?

    And as a side note, if I set the destination host ESXi as a destination in the converter instead of the vCenter server, I get the error indicated in this KB. http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & externalId = 2012310

    With the help of converter 5.5.1

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello

    Traffic passes from the source computer to the destination ESX. You will have a small slowdown in the wizard before you start converting mainly to get the VC inventory. See the graphics in the user pp. 11-13 guide

    Concerning

    P.S. If you want to V2V, keep the server converter on site A, too as in this case, that the data passes through it.

  • Networking question in VMware Workstation / nested ESXi network configuration problem

    Hi guys,.

    I am trying to set up a virtual lab, I setup a domain, a vcenter server and up to 1 ESXi host controller.

    I am really struggling with the network aspect in establishing a vmnic for storing shared, please see the attached screenshots and a few questions:

    1. Is a vmnic a real network map? or vmnic correspond to "network adapters" that you put in place since the setting of your virtual machine?

    I followed a tutorial and implement 3 NICs on the ESXi host, in Bridge mode, I tried this in my configuration of vmworkstation and I lose the connection to my server vcenter to the ESXi host.

    See screenshot attached to how I configured my ESXi host, screenshot is called 'screenshot2esxihost network', I run got each of the maps defined on NAT network.

    screenshot2esxihost network.JPG

    See also the screenshot of how I have my configuration of network settings in my VMWare Workstation, screenshot is called "screenshot1. the tutorial does not show how it has its editor of the virtual network configuration, but it puts its ESXi host NICs in BRIDGED mode, and I'm guessing that you can set this time within the virtual network adapter. If someone could tell me what changes should I make in there and on the network cards in my ESXi host, which would be really useful.

    screenshot1.JPG

    My domain controller, server ESXi hosts and vcenter are currently on the 192.168.86 range, which currently stood at NAT

    See also a screenshot from the vsphere client - I don't see a vmnic "vmnic0", my goal is to be able to add a "vmnic2" for a separate storage network.

    screenshot3 unable to add anymore vmnics.JPG

    any help would be received with gratitude, I VCP510 review at the end of the month and really hope to be able to get my lab setup as soon as possible.

    The vmnic is the rising 'physical' of an ESXi host. So with the 3 network cards that you configured for the host in VMware Workstation you will see under "Network adapters" and you can use them to vSwitches in the section "network".

  • Questions about vmware high availability

    Dear all,

    I am new in this area, we intend to deploy vmware 5 in our environment by using the HA, I am a student in this regard. I have a few questions about this, I need assistance by experts in this field:

    -J' read the vmware network redundancy is strongly recommended for the configuration of vmware HA, but I haven't fully?

    -When vmware HA is configured and there are two hosts in the cluster, now when creating a new machine virtual, I need to specify under which host this new virtual machine must reside OR the HA feature will automatically decide on that?

    -When vmware HA is set up and I have two hosts in cluster, a host processors 4physical and 8 GB of RAM, the other host is also even have 4 physical processors and 8 GB of RAM, so for me which are the sets of resources will be presented? I will be display individually for each host resources when you create a new virtual machine, OR I will be presented with a SUM of resources 1 + 2 host resources to play?

    -Is it possible that I assigned 4 vCPU virtual machine and 4 GB Mem and it uses little resources from host 1 and few resources to host 2, as 2 vCPU to host 1 and 2 GB and still host 2vCPU 2 and remains 2GB (given that I am presented with the SUM of the cluster as mentioned in my second question resources)

    -J' read operating system failure when in vmHA particular VM will be restarted on the same host it resides, that means? If the BONE broke down, then when new virtual machine starts, it will be also having fallen copy of OS? I mean how this new machine will be launched, it's a copy identical secondary virtual machine crashed?

    Waiting for your help.

    Kind regards
    Jocelyn

    OK, consider cases that I am only using HA and no DRS, in this case I need to specify under what host to run VM?

    I read the first question again, then please, let me make this clear. When you create a new virtual machine, you must always specify a host and storage.

    Initial investment (when you are powering on a virtual machine) is a feature of the Drs without DRS a virtual machine can only be migrated to another host manually or with the virtual machine shut down (cold migration) or using vMotion (if allowed).

    But because of an event leading to the crash of the OS reboot also not solve the problem, correct me if I understood? This is also true for FT?

    You're right, HA can restart only a virtual machine. If there is a serious issue that causes the BONE invited to plant that regularly, this is not enough and you have to solve the problem manually. FT cannot resolve as she makes it "mirrors" the guest to another host, so it will also reflect a BSOD.

    Yes, FT has still some limitations. However, there are use cases where availability is important and FT is designed to ensure continuous availability in the event of a crash the host.

  • A few questions about VMware tools and U2 of ESXi 4.0 and 4.1

    In my workplace, there is a cluster of vSphere 4 six nodes containing 5 servers ESXi 4.0 U2 (4.0.0, 261974) and a server ESXi 4.1 (4.1.0, 260247).  Aparently, it was built that way in the environment concept then deployed into production and now I head for VMware deployment.  This environment is up in producgtion now for over 8 months with this configuration, but starting to be more widely used.  Ideally, I know, we should have all the nodes on the same patch level, but here's the question.

    Models used to get the operating system to the virtual machines in this environment were built on the apparently new 4.1 server using this version of VMware tools (Version 8.3.2 build-257859).  All so most of the running virtual machines, use this version of VMware tools.  Using this new version of VMware tools on a virtual machine running on a server ESXi 4.0 U2 ESXi would cause issues?  ESXi 4.0 U2 servers push version 4.0.0 build 261974 of the VMware tools, identical to the ESXi version.  The status of the VMware tools when the new 4.1 version is running on a host of U2 4.0 still shows as OK and we have operated this way for more than 8 months.

    Another problem is that we have still a few other virtual machines with the 4.0 build U2 VMware tools so when these virtual machines will eventually be VMotioned to an ESXi 4.1 host, VMware tools show as outdated.

    Until we can get of planned downtime to upgrade the servers, it should be like that for several weeks if possible.  We have HL7 interfaces on many of these virtual machines that are not too good with VMotion and being in an organization of health care, sometimes difficult to get downtime.  It is perhaps more possible to downgrade the only host to 4.0 U2 until we can plan time to upgrade all hosts.  I would keep the node in the cluster, even if for the moment, assuming that to release 4.1 with other guests at 4.0 U2 should not cause problems, since we can use the resources of that node in this cluster.

    Until then, ensuring that all the virtual machines in the cluster use the ESXi version 4.1 of the VMware tools (Version 8.3.2 build-257859) would be acceptable?  I just wanted to check that this version should be fully backwards compatible with the previous version of ESXi 4.0 U2, and as I mentioned before, its run like that and have noticed yet all the problems and the status of the VMware Tools also records OK when this new version works on ESXi 4.0 U2 host computer.  I just wanted some feedback from those of the community.

    Thank you

    Exactly, do you VMotion, virtual host 4.1 machine and if necessary would upgrade the VMware tools. To install VMware tools, it is necessary to restart the virtual machine.

    And another option that I say is the first upgraded version of all hosts ESXi4.0 U2 to 4.1, after that, you do an upgrade in the tools of all virtual machines vmware.

    Perfect.

    You´re are welcome!

  • Remove the SCSI controller change question of VMWare

    Hello

    I used PowerCLI for create a virtual machine and replace it with instead of buslogic SCSI LSILogic controller. I did it by using the following code:

    function updateSCSIController ($vmName, $ctrlName)

    {

    $vm = get - VM $vmName | Get-View

    1. Get the controller and devices on

    $vm. Config.Hardware.Device | where {$_.} DeviceInfo.Label - eq $ctrlName} | % {

    $oldCtrl = $_

    $ctrlKey = $_. Key

    $devs = @)

    $_. Device | % {

    $devKey = $_

    $vm. Config.Hardware.Device | where {$_.} Key - eq $devKey} | % {

    $devs += $_

    }

    }

    }

    1. Create the specification for the device changes

    $bootDelay = 10000

    $spec = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec

    $spec. BootOptions = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineBootOptions

    $spec. BootOptions.BootDelay = $bootDelay

    1. Remove the old controller

    $old = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualDeviceConfigSpec

    $old.device = $oldCtrl

    $old.operation = 'delete '.

    $spec. DeviceChange += $old

    1. Update the devices connected to the controller

    $devs | % {

    $dev = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualDeviceConfigSpec

    $dev.device = $_

    $dev.device.ControllerKey = - 100

    $dev.operation = "Edit."

    $spec. DeviceChange += $dev

    }

    1. Add the new controller

    $new = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualDeviceConfigSpec

    $new. Device = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualLsiLogicController

    $new. Device.Key = - 100

    $new. Device.ControllerKey = $oldCtrl.ControllerKey

    $new. Device.UnitNumber = $oldCtrl.UnitNumber

    $new.operation = 'Add '.

    $spec. DeviceChange += $new

    $vm. ReconfigVM ($spec)

    }

    However when I try to start the virtual machine Via code, it gives me an error saying that the virtual machine has questions to be decided.

    This is the question asked by VMWare:

    sg.disk.AdapterMismatch: the disk attached to the node SCSI0:0 has been created for the Buslogic SCSI adapter but SCSI0 Virtual Machine device is a SCSI LSI Logic card.

    VMware ESX Server can change the free disc adapter type. Attention of the user, if a guest operating system is installed on the drive, it is perhaps not able to start.

    Do you think Vmware ESX Server to change the type of adapter for SCSI0:0 disk

    This issue can be removed through PowerCLI?

    This is the part of code that fails

    updateSCSIController - vmName $name - ctrlName "SCSI controller 0.

    Start-VM - $vm VM - confirm: $false

    $vm | Get-CDDrive. Game-CDDrive-connected: $true - confirm: $false

    I don't know if you can remove the question, but you can respond with the Set-VMQuestion cmdlet.

    Your ESX3.5i server is not functional in eval mode. It is a free product, but you must obtain and enter a license key. You should have received this once you download the software from vmware.

    I was under the impression that VMIC and ESX3.5i are free tools?

    They are both.

    Is it not the case?

    Yes they are free, but you must enter the free license key that you received from vmware. It has been some time, I do not remember if I have received me by e-mail or on the download page.

    Also, what is the relationship between the server, VirtualCenter and ESX3.5i and VMIC?

    vCenter (VirtualCenter server) is the management server can manage multiple ESX/ESXi hosts at once. It also provides some additional features, such as vmotion, integration with active directory, etc. - it is not free

    ESX3.5I is one of the hypervisor servers based that you run your virtual machines on - it's free, but you need to get your free license key.

    VMIC is the client software that you use to connect to vCenter or ESX/ESXi host to manage your virtual environment, including the ESXi host. -free and can be downloaded for the guests, once installed ESX.

  • Question of VMware DRS ESX cluster?

    Hello

    Just got a new Question that arises for me on VMware DRS need answers from you guys.

    -What happens in VMware ESX DRS if all ESX servers nodes cluster are running on full use of resources. Will be VMware DRS will migrate a virtual machine (which does not receive the amount of resources that he needs / configured) to another ESX base?

    According to the doc - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35u2/vi3_35_25_u2_resource_mgmt.pdf, DRS vmotion virtual machine based on the migration being configured threshold setting believes that a virtual machine for the migration if it does not receive the resources required.

    NUTZ

    VCP 3.5

    (Preparation for VCP 4)

    I agree with Troy and Matt - and would add even if she tried to vmotion virtual machine, that he would be unable to because the way you have described the cluster, it is not all available resources to perform the vmotion since vmotion requires the resources available to complete with success-

  • Question about VMware Foundation Acceleration Kit

    Sorry if this is a stupid question, I don't get frequent on licenses for the stuff. Ive looked at the PDF licenses and below shows the paragraph that confuses me a little. The Foundation acceleration Kit only allows you to run ESXi?

    What would be the best option?

    We are the vSphere upgrade 5.1 to 5.5. We have still a few virtual machines with obsolete tools VMware vSphere 4.  There problems upgrade to vSphere 5.5 and then upgrade VMware Tools on those virtual machines to the version 5.5?  Or should we upgrade VMware Tools version 5.1 first before doing the upgrade to vSphere 5.5? We need plan restarting downtime when upgrading to VMware Tools on those virtual machines and would rather not upgrade VMware Tools twice and planning two stops
