• Status in ESX5i and VCenter VMware tools is false

  So I don't know what is the right forum for this because I can't isolate the problem.  I have a lab environment running ESX 5i Enterprise.  On my virtual machines of Windows 7 (all), I get a very strange behavior regarding VMware tools.  I do not see this on Windows XP, Server 2008 or Server 2003)

  If you look at a tab summary of the virtual machine, or the inventory in vCenter or ESX host, it will signal tools VMware is common, but is not running.   If you click on the console tab, click on in the console and then switch to the contents tab, it will then show the IP address and the VMware tools running service.  At this point, it's all or nothing if IP address never appears in the display of the master-inventory.  If you wait a while, going to happen reported VMware tools does not yet.   When he thinks it VMware tools does not work, these function requiring the tools are not available.  It is a real drag...

  It is becoming a real problem.  Anyone has any suggestions as to what might happen?

  Are not your windows of sleep (due to energy savings) or disable the services due to idleness? Check power saving options.

  Unfortunately for you, the HCL XP (or Windows Catalog or Windows Marketplace or whatever it is renamed) no longer exists.  I guess Microsoft is not particularly interested in letting you know what the material is compatible with an operating system that is no longer, it sells and supports only.

  The trail begins here: "the latest Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List" (314062 KB) that leads to theWindows 7 Compatibility Center.  KB 314062 is also linked to the http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/ which used to have a list of compatible with XP hardware and software, but now redirects to the Microsoft store, another dead end that XP is concerned.

  If you really want to dig, your best bet is probably used the Wayback Machine (archive.org) looking for old copies of

  http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx - but a lot of links are broken or "not supported" unless you use Internet Explorer 6 (the message claims 6 'or more' but 8 does not work).

• Drag and Drop VMware Service dashboard

  We try to create a VMware dashboard from a service.  We have three VMware data centre and we want to see one of them on a custom drag and drop that will be created from a service dashboard (we have created several of these dashboards for other objects of topology such as SQL Server, Exchange and standard hosts).

  We created the service, but when we try to add DataCentre_1 to it, it does not display the server in the data center.  We added service-specific components, selecting a search for 'All models', enlargement VMware model. virtualCenters.  None of the items selected under which show the VM customers.  We tried VMWVirtualCenter, VMWDatacenterCollection and VMWDatacenter.

  No matter which one is selected, when we try to create a table in the dashboard by dragging Services | All Services | | Guests in all, we still have a message "No data to display" in the preview window.

  Can someone please tell us where get you the guest list for the VMware data centre?

  Hi Brian,.

  I think that the best way to do this is to define a Service that contains all ESX hosts in the target datacenter.

  You can do this by defining a Service then fill that Service with 'a rule to include a group of components', also known as a FSMDynamicManagedComponent. The definition of this rule begins with the root query "ESX hosts", to which we add a rule as a condition:

  virtualCenter.name like '% alvvmml01 '.

  Your Service will then contain all of the corresponding ESX hosts and you can then drag and drop the ESX host since the set service in your dashboard or report.

  Your first attempt did not work because the addition of things like VMWVirtualCenter, VMWDatacenterCollection or VMWDatacenter in the Service adds these items for the Service, but not the ESX hosts contained in these articles. /Hosts is also the list of physical or virtual host objects, not the ESX host objects you are looking for.

• Matter of time and timezone VMware Appliance identity (NTP)

  I have deployed the latest version of VMware-identity-device - 2.0.1.2 - 1748175_OVF10 device. After connection GOES, I followed steps below.

  1. access https://< IP ID >: 5480

  2. set the IP address of the NTP server

  3. set the time zone in Asia/Calcutta

  For some time he shows good local time but after awhile, zone remains the same i.e. IST but its real time resets by - 5:30 which is UST. Looks like that NTP does not for this will

  This issue is not present in the device server vCAC. that is, it shows appropriate time to IST. Because of the time difference, we are facing questions during the vCAC SSO and IAAS server configuration.

  Thanks, but my problem is solved.

  It was because of my Active Directory server time. After registering Identity server with server advertising actually synchronize time with your ad server even if you have configured with the NTP server.

  I installed VMware EXSi 5.0 and now, I'm trying to install VMware image VMWare with BSD and already implemented-DummyNet in place (I got the file from this http://codefromthe70s.org/dummynet.aspxblog).

  I followed these steps:

  1. create a new virtual machine

  With the operating system invited: Free BSD (64-bit)

  2. go to the data to Configuration/Storage/travel store and download the file (image VMWare with BSD and DummyNet) already implemented - FreeBSDDisk.vmdk

  

  3. right click on the virtual machine and change the settings

  4. choose the 1 CD/DVD drive

  5 locate the ISO data store file

  

  6. connect a power on

  The file you have a vmdk or VHD, not a CDrom ISO.

  When you create your virtual computer, on the hard disk configuration, should have selected "Use an existing virtual disk" rather than create a new one.

  You can still do this now, by removing the hard disk already present in your virtual machine and adding a new.

  For the new disc, select the option 'Use current' and browse the data store for your downloaded vmdk.

  It is best to remove the old drive, close the "Edit settings" to apply the change, reopen "change settings" and add the new disk.

  This way you are sure that the new drive is added with 0,0 SCSI id and becomes the first disk of your virtual computer.

  But that VMDK file is probably not ESX (i) compatible.

  If it is a single file, it is intended for workstation or player, not vSphere.

  You can convert it to a format compatible with the command, vmkfstools (on the local or remote shell, or remote cli ESXi).

  Another option to convert, is to create a virtual machine in Vmware player, using your VMDK and then use the free standalone Vmware Converter to migrate you ESXi host.

• Is there a correct way to stop and restart VMware HA &amp; FT?

  I do something wrong here. What is the right way to stop?

  My VMware defined configuration:

  4 x server R710 (hosts)

  4 x 6248 switches

  1 x MD3000i SAN

  1 x 2950 vCenter

  4 x guest operating system

  =============

  ESX 4.0.0 U3

  Here are the steps I have to set everything stop.

  1. Stop all the guest operating system
     
  2. Disable the FT of virtual machines
     
  3. Set the Mode of maintenance on all hosts
     
  4. Right-click on each host (R710) and click on stop
     
  5. Stop the vCenter
     
  6. Wait 5 minutes, then turn off the SAN (MD3000i)
     
  7. Power Off the four switches
     

  To restart the game from VMware, I did the following:

  1. Powered on the four switches (wait 2 minutes to go to the next step)
     
  2. Powered on the SAN (wait 5 minutes go to the next step)
     
  3. Powered on the vCenter
     
  4. Open the Dell disk storage manager to see if the SAN is on an Optimal State
     
  5. Powered on the hosts (R710)
     
  6. Go to vCenter
     
  7. the four hosts have yellow dots. Something HA agent is disabled.
     
  8. The I had to disable the check box HA and then re-checked in order to allow the system to reconfigure the AP to the four hosts status normal and ready to be used.
     
  9. Turn on all the feet on each virtual machine
     
  10. Powered on the guest operating system
      

  The second question here is the time of the host, I went to the time setting and the time and Date will not. It was 4 hours off. The time is set to synchronize with my DNS server. Whence this difference of 4 hours guests?

  In summary

  To solve these two problems, you must do the following

  1. see your VC is already a DNS server, set the ESXi hosts to use the Victoria Cross as their main DNS and the virtual as secondary.

  2 configure your VC as an NTP server and point the guests to use.

  If you want to change the host file, you have to set the IP address, host name, domain FULL name

  Example:

  10.10.10.10 Esxihost01 Esxihost01.domain.com

  But rather to use DNS

  Don't forget to assign points

  I know that the module is supposed to be implicitly imported without the need of the declaration when running in a PowerShell command prompt, but I've also had instances where I know that the line is necessary, especially when a Powershell script requires that the module is called from the command line.

• Need controller of berries

  I have a HP ML150 G5, who currently heads the esxi 3.5. I was not able to apply fixes for some time because for some reason any after that the next update is applied esxi no longer sees my berries controller and hard drives (the G5 is not on the HCL). I want to get a controller that is on the HCL for the system disk so that I can start esxi (and update), I have a NAS I want to connect my host esxi via iSCSI to main memory. I tried the HCL, but it's either down or only SAS is indicated.

  Can anyone recommend a good controller (SATA II) for my ML150 so that I can start esxi?

  According to the quickspecs HP for G5 150 ML and the VMware HCL , it seems that the Controller HP Smart Array E200/128 BBWC (411508-B21) with the cable 4-port SAS/SATA internal HP (457692-B21) should meet your needs.

  I have checked the HCL, forums, Emulex site and cannot find information on thw Emulex OneConnect Océ 10100. That's what shows the OneCommand Manager. I'll have to try the command line and see if it gives the same info. My dilemma is that the customer has much 710 Dell with this card. I can't find on the HCL, it causes the locking of the VM and host in the character of hardware iSCSI, but works with the iSCSI software. The path to upgrading to vSpere 5 may have problems, and if it is not on the HCL, VMware will not support.

  Any help on identyfying this map or insight is appreciated. Attached SS

  Hello Savoie,

  The adapter of your Emulex UCNA 10100 reference's name instead of the brand. The actual adapter model would be OCe10102-IX for FX for FCoE or iSCSI, see attached picture of VMware HCL. By the looks of it, the image shows you use Emulex vCenter Server plugin and it seems that the firmware of the adapter is an old version 2.103.397.3455. I would say to update your firmware to the 4.0.360.3 and VMW drivers to answer some of the questions your experience with your VM. Regarding the way to upgrade to ESXi 5.0 the screenshot shows also support using the latest drivers from the VMware Web site. If you're still expericing problems contact Emulex support and they will take care of you.
