I want to buy a hard drive external backup storage and extra for my desktop pc HP Pavilion Media Center m7790e with Vista Home Premium.  I understand that the flows are much faster with USB 3.0.  I have 4 USB 2.0 ports on the back of the pc and 2 USB 2.0 ports at the front of the PC.  Some of these ports are upgraded to USB 3.0?  There is only 1 slot PCI-E on the motherboard and it is currently occupied by the graphics card.  Thank you.

    Hello

No, no point to do so because the chipset on the map inside is ONLY for USB - 2. But according to spare PCIe slots on your machine, you can buy PCI USB3 card such as one of these:

  • HP Pavilion p7-1020: upgrade to USB 3.0 (P7-1020)

    Hello!

I've had my p7-1020 for several years now and I'm very happy with it. However, it has currently only USB 2.0 ports and I would really like to install some ports USB 3.0 for increased efficiency. I have previously updated the video card in my PC so I'm uncomfortable, go inside the Tower, but I need help with the technical aspects of this upgrade.

First, I wonder if it is possible to add a USB 3.0 port on this computer (as in, do I have enough / correct type of PCI, power connectors, etc.)  I want to know if there is any special consideration I should do when choosing a piece of hardware.

Second, if it is possible, what is the effectiveness of this new material would be? I read on some other sites that have even thought that it would be possible to add hardware USB 3.0 for older machines, other limitations of the system could stop him to be very beneficial. Could this be true in this case?

    Thanks in advance.

If your system is old, it may have have USB 1.1 ports. Only way to fix it (if you use USB 2 devices. Either buy USB 2 PCI cards), or upgrade the system. If you get / have ports USB 2

  • upgrade to USB 1.0, USB 2.0 on a PC with XP

Using the Presario 5420US with XP, for some purposes, dedicated, with USB devices. Get the message that downloads wou; LD will be faster with USB 2.0 - the PC has obviously 1.0 only.   Upgrade to 2.0 involves a hardware change? the volumes of material (chips on motherboard) host or software drivers controllers? Or both?  I tried to research and have read dozens of articles on many sites - and still did not find the answer... Can be upgraded this computer XP (by me)?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello:

You have posted in the forum of the laptop.  The model number indicates that you have a desktop PC, correct?

If so, you must use a PCI card with USB 2.0 port. According to PC specifications for your machine, you have a free PCI slot to install such a card.

Here is a link to a site that sells these adapters.  You can read reviews and get the model that suits the most.

The card should come with drivers. If it is not it means it should be automatically detected and installed.

Make sure that you get one that says it works with XP.

  • Pavilion 6235 upgrade with USB 3.0

I want to upgrade my Pavilion 6235 with a USB 3.0 PCI card.

Any suggestion / manufacturer that works?

    What else, keep in mind?

USB 3.0 is supported by the motherboard?

    Thank you!

Your MB supports USB 2.0 devices.

If you want to upgrade to USB3.0 you can go for a PCI-E 1 x add on the map like for example this one:

    http://h10010.www1.HP.com/wwpc/my/en/SM/WF06c/A1-329290-332469-3965933-3965933-4144076-4144079.html

If you are looking for in your MB chipset nVidia MCP61P (rev A03) race it should support the PCI-E 2.0, giving full USB3.0 so support.

  • After the upgrade to USB 3 Hub Ethernet Sierra is no longer works

On my mid-2015 15 "MBP, I have a Sitecom CN - 340 USB 3 Docking station. Apart from all kinds of outputs, it has an Ethernet port, which I've been using for the last 6 months without any problems... until the update for Sierra. Since then, the report of control center that the cable is not connected. I am now connected via Thunderbolt. Has anyone noticed this too? And then knows how to fix? The latest drivers are February 2016.

    Kind regards

It turns out that the problem is so the driver being old-fashioned. The chipset is the AX88179 and the manufacturer provides its own drivers here: http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail & PItemID = 131

    So, all is well again.

    See you soon,.

    Hey,.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop 6199us and there just USB 2.0. I read that your motherboard and processor must be able to run USB 3.0 if you want to change anything out. How will I know if my computer can run USB 3.0?

If it can run USB 3.0, I would like to either Söder USB 2.0 ports and put it on 3.0 ports or buy a small surfboard USB 3.0, for a HP Pavilion DV6T-7000 and replace the two USB ports that are not attached to the motherboard.

Please let me know if this is still possible or if I am simply not understand what the computer needs to run USB 3.0.

    Hello

I have a HP Envy 14 - 1010nr Notebook PC, which had two USB 2.0 ports on the left side and a USB 3.0 port on the right.

USB 3.0 port was damaged such as connectors plugged it seem a little loose and can move laterally a little so that the connection to the device comes in and out - makes it uncertain to copy some stuff on a hard drive through it, for example.

Is it possible for me to replace this port? Where could find a spare part for that if it can replace?

Even though I am inside the computer, I might as well replace the USB 2.0 with USB 3.0 ports ports if the pats replacement for that exist...

You're right, because there is no audio + USB 3.0, only the original + USB 2.0

    Will007, welcome to the forum.

You will need to purchase a PCI Express x 1 card.  There are three of these locations on the motherboard.  I'm not sure you can see the full power of USB 3.0, but it will be certainly faster than USB 2.0.  Number of computers most recent didn't reach speeds of USB 3.0.

I have a Pavilion a1720n office computer that uses Vista Home premium OS. It has USB and USB2 ports. And if so, is it easy to do? Norman

    Hello

USB 3 is backward compatible with USB 2, so you can use an external hard drive USB 3 on a pc with USB 2. It will function as a disk USB 2, but because the pc does not support USB 3, it wouldn't work at the speed of the USB 3 anyway.

The best way to use USB 3 drives is to buy a computer supported USB 3. The key is that the motherboard must support it. Otherwise, (with 2 USB, computers cannot reach speed USB 3), the drive will still work as a USB 2, one...

Connection USB 3 is supported in the latest computers Intel Sandy Bridge and AMD Fusion A - X...
