  Need advice: the goal is to add Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller H330 server Dell Poweredge R230.

  We have R730xd several devices and have a query regarding the part number of the cable from the backplane before hard drive RAID Controller PERC H730P. In one of our servers, the cable has a number of FVPCF while in another server, it has a number of 8717G. The only difference I see is that the cable is a different color. We tried searching online but nothing appears untowards. The two cables are working without any problems or y at - it a specific part for a particular server number? Both servers have installed H730P PERC controllers.

  The type of cable used is normally dependent on the configuration of the background and the controller. I see that two P/Ns FVPCF & 8717 G are identical and connect between the back 3.5 "- plan to the PERC H730P controller on the server 730XD." Each cable should work under the same configuration with no problems.

  Hi all

  My security system is sending me alert because my RAID controllers being day. RAID controllers are fine, but the State is deteriorating because of the "latest Firmware Version available" which means I can't properly control if something really bad happens.

  Is it possible to disable the alert or lower the minimum version expected? I just can't reboot all my servers just for an update of the RAID firmware.

• PERC 5i - RAID 5 with 3 drives shows 2 missing discs?

  I have a PE2900 with a PERC 5i, the first volume is a RAID 5 with three disks.  This morning the Controller PERC says two of the drives (MAXTOR SAS 68 GB 10 K rpm) are missing.

  Is it normal to lose two discs at the same time accurate?  Or would it be the controller going wrong?

  Is there anyway to test these discs without breaking the virtual disk?  Or am I out of luck of losing two of the three disks in a RAID 5?

  Then on the VD MGMT screen, highlight the controller at the top left, F2, foreign Import.

  He must move one of the stranger online and leave the other failed... things leave until you can confirm the operating system starts and is ok, then you can rebuild the remaining disk.

  RAID 6 is well known for its performance of poor\slow. This is the only function is to be safer than RAID 5, not to be fast and cheap.  With parity RAID, to rebuild the whole picture.  They have been known to go for a week or more before they are finished, according to the size and speed of players.

• PowerEdge T710 PERC H700 RAID level migration issue

  In my new role, I inherited a number of servers managed until now by someone else.  One of them is a PowerEdge T710 with a Controller PERC H700.  There are two matrices; the other has four 3TO disks in a RAID-5 configuration.

  I don't need the storage space any where near as much as the reliability factor.  Is it possible to do a migration on-site from RAID 5 to RAID-6 without disturbing data?  There is enough free space, and I have no problem losing a portion of the free space I have.

  Yes, BUT you can use this method by ADDING another disk.  RAID 6 requires a minimum of 4 drives.  Insert a disk "to hot', then in the software OpenManage (OMSA), go into storage, PERC, virtual disks and reconfigure in the drop-down list of tasks available for RAID 5.

  Apart from the fact that RAID 6 requires a minimum of 4 drives, even if you want to spend a 4 drive RAID 5 has a 4-drive RAID 6, it could NOT be done.  You can't make a smaller table.  The controller doesn't know - or care - on real data of BONE on the disks (so the amount of 'free space' is not serious) and is not worried about virtual disk space (which would be filled if the total capacity of the discs has been used).
