  • My HP 14 laptop is not recognizing the usb ports and wifi at startup.

During the last few days I been dealing with the issue that my laptop does not recognize the usb ports and wifi. After several reboots, it works fine. My drivers are up to date, so I don't know why, I'll have this terrible problem.

    Welcome @hildergarn,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome! It is an excellent site to find answers and ask questions. I understand that you have a problem with your Wi - Fi and USB ports on your laptop from HP.

My first suggestion would be to use the wireless network troubleshooting and Internet tool. At the bottom it will ask you questions to help you diagnose the problem.

Please take a look at this great Charter called troubleshooting wireless network and Internet. This document will help you to solve the problem of Wi - Fi.

Have you tried to restore the BIOS?

Have you tried to connect directly to the Modem/Router?

You have uninstalled the driver in Device Manager?

Please try to uninstall the driver in Device Manager by using the following steps:

    • Go to the Device Manager.
    • Expand network adapters.
    • Right-click on all NICs individually.
    • Click on uninstall.
    • Restart the laptop twice.

How many devices you try to connect?

What you are trying to connect via USB?

Are - what you happened to try to use the HP Support Assistant?

Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant, if you not him have not yet tried. Simply download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updated.

Here are other troubleshooting steps that may help too. If the USB device does not appear in Device Manager, then it might be a question of power requirement. Unplug the machine and perform the following steps until the device is detected:

    • Reboot the laptop
    • Plug in and wait five seconds.

    • If the device does not appear, try connecting to another USB port.

    • If the USB device is displayed in Device Manager after you connect the cable to a different port, then uninstall and reinstall the software of USB device driver.

If the device is not recognized in any port, unplug it and go to the next step.

    • Open the Device Manager.
    • Double-click Bus USB controllers,

    • Double-click on a USB root hub,

    • Click the Power tab

    • Click on properties of power supply (if it is displayed).

Devices need that are connected to the hub are shown, as well as the power they have. If the total displayed power is more than 500 mA, remove the devices and use a hub powered.

    • Continue looking at the properties of the power of each USB hub. If the total power required exceeds the total available power for the hub, then remove a device on this hub to a decrease in the number of consumption.

    • Plug in and wait five seconds. If the device is not recognized, unplug and go to the next step.

Please note; Remove USB cables at high speed that are more than 3 m (9.8 ft) in length and use cables at high speed that are shorter than 3 m.

  • Some devices not recognized by USB ports

My USB ports seem to have problems with grateful some devices connected via a cable, while having no problem with reading others.

For example my SteelSeries mouse and keyboard are connected via USB as well as the Xbox 360 controller, and they work fine. However, to connect my Nikon D60 or Lenovo A3500 Tablet gives me message "unrecognized USB device". The computer not being able to read the camera is particularly odd, because he had no problem reading Nikon D3500 of my mother. From the logical point of view, the question is meaningless to me, and Googling the problem no results and more often given solutions have failed.

I wonder if there is a solution, I missed again.

Most often when a device does not work, it is because the driver is damaged. Re-install a new copy should help

Make sure that Windows is updated appropriately that there have been several USB updates.

1 check that the driver letters for them, for a player, if the drive of the default drive letter is changed
in this case. Mine was h: I added a device that took H: and the player stopped. So I put
Back to H: and the other device to J: and everything worked again. If necessary start - type in the search box->
Disk management is top - right click it - RUN AS ADMIN

Don't forget to remember the MP3 must be set to the PSG to sync with WMP, and meteorological service of Canada to copy and
delete files and update the firmware.

If no joy follow these steps:

You may need a powered hub. (all the USB ports on your computer are not powered, often
    only 2)

    Try these:

    Make a Restore Point

Control Panel - Device Manager - click in the empty area - VIEW - show hidden devices

Here, your devices are the MP3 player.

Now look everywhere EXCEPT the USB controllers for your devices (cannot be found) and if you find
It RIGHT CLICK and UNINSTALL all.

now go to the USB and UNINSTALL ALL controllers in the category, but the category itself.

    APPLY/OK

    RESET

This refresh battery USB and hopefully it will allow the unit to install. (You may need a powered hub)

Here is the similar procedure in XP, Windows 7 is the same, except that we need to clear the specific
    devices if it is present.

This is a utility to help you, but do 1 above.

USBDeview is a small utility that lists all USB devices currently connected to your computer, as
Although all USB devices that you previously used. Run Options and check the 1st three choices to
    see if one is there.

    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/usb_devices_view.html

You must remove all instances of the devices and restart.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

If the above does not work (and it should be considered the preparatory work).

This works for any MP3 player when the USB stack is not corrupted:

1 player to delete and restart computer - switch to MTP mode on your MP3 player

Regardless of what brand of MP3 you have

    1. check this Just In Case

In Vista/Windows 7: (Do this way!)

  • External Toshiba HARD drive not recognized on USB 2.0 ports, but only on USB 3.0

    Hello

I have a Toshiba drive external HARD 750 GB USB2.0/USB3.0
Now, this HARD drive is not recognized on USB 2.0 ports from my laptop (same thing on my desktop computer) but only on the USB 3.0 port.

I have try on port USB2.0 computers different (desktop, laptop) but it doesn't work. The LED is the lightning, but the drive does not appear in the file Explorer.

    You have any ideas?

    Thank you

    > Now this HARD drive is not recognized on USB 2.0 ports from my laptop (same thing on my desktop computer) but only on the USB 3.0 port

USB 3.0 port 900mA feeds. The USB 2.0 port common provides 500mA.
I think that the HARD drive needs more 500mA power in order to work properly.

So if you want to use the HARD drive on USB 2.0 ports, I recommend you to use a USB Y cable which allows to connect the HARD drive to two USB 2.0 ports
