Re: Satellite P200 - FN The keys causes a BSOD

Hello
My Satellite works on Vista 32-bit, when I hit the FN key, a blue screen appears.

All keys are key work fine exept the button FN.
The BIOS and vista are updated?

Any ideas?

Hello

BSOD code, you get exactly?

I think that the problem is related to a software problem. In your case, I would try to reinstall the Toshiba value added Package. This tool contains the drivers for the FN keys. You can download the Toshiba site:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

Before installing new VAP the former first deletion, restart the laptop and install the new version.

Good bye

    Hello

It seems that your laptop is a Canadian model and as a result, you can download the drivers on Toshiba Canada website:
    http://www.Toshiba.ca

The problem is that I can't find Windows XP drivers on this Web site. :(
The only way I know, is that you try the drivers and utility on the European site. Normally, the models are very similar and maybe it works. It s worth a try.

    Hello

    > I am disappointed to see the SHIFT key (left) and the CTRL pressed, causing the screen to go black intermittently when you type my blog...

What does this mean exactly? Press SHIFT and CTRL button turn off the display, and you are not able to see anything on the monitor?
    Is this good?

Have you checked if this happens with the help of an external USB keyboard too?
If this isn't the case, I guess that your keyboard is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.

One of my friends had a problem with my keyboard. The cursor jumped around and some characters are displayed two times this could be resolved by the BIOS update I m do not know if your laptop uses the latest version of the BIOS, but you can check this too.

  • Satellite P200 - 144 FN keys do not work

    Hello

I have a dual-boot configuration, and I came across a problem. I have XP and Vista installed, and the FN keys do not work under XP. I had a look at the manual and it said something about Fn-Esse. Can someone help me solve this problem?

    Thank you
    Neo-Tech

If I m not mistaken the P200-144 belongs to the series PSPBGE and European Toshiba driver page doesn t provided no details on the FN-Esse driver or something like that

As far as I know the Hotkey Utility driver must be installed to control and use the FN keys.
Also note that the driver installation procedure is very important.
If you install drivers or utilities in the wrong order and then some features could not work as should.

On the European driver page, you should find a txt file called installation instructions.
Follow this order, and install as mentioned it.

  • Satellite U405 - pressing the keys of enlightenment start the laptop

When the computer turned off, if I touch the light keys / multimedia, the computer starts.

This is especially problematic because the computer starts even when I just close the lid (because illuminaton keys are activated by the lid itself).
Any suggestions? If not how to solve the problem, could you please tell me how to turn them off?

I don't think you can turn it off. If the button is feeling a press when you close the lid, perhaps the jury of the sensor must be replaced.

I would like to send the laptop to an authorized Service provider to get that replaced part. There is a list of the ASP on the Toshiba site in the support section.

  • Satellite P200-1I4, the graphics card can be changed/updated?

    Hello, Tommy

Unfortunately graphics card can not be changed or updated. Hardware for laptops is designed on a different path with respect to the workstations and the graphics card is part of the motherboard.
Sorry but there is nothing to do.

  • Satellite P200-RT3 - the screen turns black during the Vista installation

Laptop worked very very slow for a while (everything worked very well - just very very slow), so I decided to restart costs after the support of all my data to the top and make the factory since HARD drive restore.

The recovery is going very well and then after restarting Vista and is preparing to launch for the first time (prob trying to load the graphical interface of Windows), display dies - black towers with some artifacts along the top of the screen. Restart in Save Mode does nothing once it is in mode safe is it says that "Windows is unable to complete the installation in mode safe process - please restart." Restart normally translates into artifacts, like LKG configuration.

Think something went wrong, I did the whole process again with the same result...

Thinking the recovery partition is buggered, I grabbed a Vista Home Premium disk and installed from there... same result.

Think display Vista drivers are buggered, I installed XP Home to rule out the possibility of a crystal display liquid buggered... XP installed fine.

Try the recovery again... no luck.

    Hello

Just FYI: you can create a recovery disc yourself. You know about it?
You must only start the Toshiba recovery disc creator, which is preinstalled on your laptop. You can find it on start > programs > TOSHIBA.

The Toshiba Recovery disk contains an image of the factory settings and it s identical to option HARD drive recovery but the drive erases the entire HARD disk.
In my opinion, the disk is very useful, because if your drive HARD get faulty and you need a new one you can restore the settings from the factory with this disc.

Anyway, if you have a problem during the installation of recovery, you should go to an authorized service provider. It could be a hardware malfunction, because a mistake shouldn't t normally appear due recovery facility.

    Hello!

I think that the problem is not the laptop, it s Windows Defender that is causing the problem.

I searched using Google with this BSOD code and the first result is this link to the Microsoft Knowledge Base :)

  • Why the AHCI mode is disabled in some models of Satellite P200/205?

    Hello.

My laptop model is Toshiba Satellite P205-S6277 (PSPBGU-00W016B). Chipset Intel 945 PM Express, Intel 82801 GBM (ICH7-M).

According to the information of the intel.com my laptop processor / chipset are fully compatible with the AHCI mode. But my SATA controller works in IDE compatibility mode and there is no way to enable AHCI SATA mode in the BIOS.

So I have two questions correlated.

    1. why this AHCI mode is completely disabled by the BIOS? Is it possible to activate this mode in future versions of BIOS?

2 If this mode is completely disabled by the BIOS in the models of laptop of all PSPBG and PSPB0 then why Intel Matrix Storage Manager (driver that improves the functionality of the AHCI mode) is available at downloads driver recommended for these series of laptop on sites European Canadians, Toshiba and even specially for my Toshiba laptop model on the site?

I already posted the same question to the site we Toshiba but unanswered for a month.
Maybe there is someone who is able to answer this question?

    >.. There is no way to enable AHCI SATA mode in the BIOS.
How you tried to activate it exactly?
I have Satellite P200 and the two modes are available. I have model laptop but can not imagine that the AMERICAN models, or models even Canadian work on a different path and BIOS must be the same.

Toshiba service best place where you should ask for help. Call them and ask for explanations. If you are right and the AHCI mode is unavailable, they know why.
Over the past 3 years I have worked with 4 different laptop models and all have absolutely identical SATA settings.

  • Bad display on Satellite P200

    Hello

My P200 under Vista has a terrible display, all the fonts are blurry and in general, the view is terrible.
I tried to change the display settings of but nothing seems to make any difference.
    All of the suggestions.

    Thanks in advance, IanB

I use the Satellite P200 almost a year now and all I can say is: use recovery media, install the original recovery image and be happy. I don't know how long you use your P200 and as you have driver display, but for your problem, I have three explanations:
-You use some bad graphics driver
    -L' display is faulty or
    -You need glasses

Please don't be crazy for my last comment. It has nothing with your person directly. I just wrote about my own experience. Satellite P200 has the glossy LCD screen brilliant (TruBrite) and using the standard display (1440 x 900) resolution image on the screen is quite clear.

    Hello Francisco

This game is not known to me, but it will be interesting to know if this game is designed for Windows XP Home edition or Vista operating system. In any case if the same question is noticed by many other users of laptop I don't see any solution here. It seems that the problem is not caused by laptop faulty or something similar. If your laptop works well, you game homepage and see if there is a solution.

Manufacturers of laptops have noting to do with it.
